Levon Helm was such a master musician craftsman ,that he made the task as easy and simple as smiling ...a true genius of his art .Max Weinberg was giving it ...wow , look at this guy dance his stuff ? Magical ...

That's really too bad if Levon didn't know what a fantastic singer he was. Oh well. I'm sure he knew that he was a great drummer.

Conan had Levon on several times, he's one of Max Weinberg's idols, and Jimmy V still goes up to do Midnight Rambles when he can. I think you're incorrect. I think everyone had respect for him there. Maybe Conan didn't do his homework for the interview, but just speaking from seeing footage of the Band on Late Night a few years after this and Levon coming on in 2009 just before Conan moved to LA, I think Conan had a great deal of respect for him and liked having him on.
