Our favorites mornings here start with a cup of coffee and “Hey guys, Matt Allen here. Welcome back to Tactical Bassin’”. Also doesn’t hurt to see a Karashi in the video! 😃 Thanks for your time and knowledge and sharing it with us, Matt.
Matt I have gotten 3 bfs set ups now n I'm running the kast king zephyr,s and I'm having a ball. Thanks to you n Tim I've learned a lot on bfs fishing. Me n a buddy went yesterday and put 16 in the boat. Man it's a blast. Thanks again
This the video that I was waiting for. Thank you so much for it. I have the Icon and Curado BFS. You guys have helped me catch fish. I walk the bank and fish ponds with small fish. I appreciate you both!
Im ready for the baitfish to school like crazy. I have a 2 month Oct-Nov Ozarks trip coming soon. Hopefully right in time for it to get really sporty! I keep a pair of nn plyers in my pocket when fishing the Karashi, or any bfs really. They can be a pain in the butt to get em off of those small hooks.
Caught 3 smallmouth over 4 pounds on the tactical mini underspin the other day talk about fun on bfs gear. The 4.7 pounder fought me for 6 minutes straight on 6lb flouro.
Matt the megabass six eleven rod is an amazing rod you can do a lot of different things with it. I have even used mine for ned rigs it is surprisingly sensitive.
hey Matt! You turned me on to the cultiva ziggy a few yrs back for finesse. Don’t forget that one! It’s become one of my finesse topwater favs for sure! However, i know i need to try the dogx Jr too!
It's such a good bait! It's also incredibly hard to get, so recommending it right now would just create frustration for anglers. Hopefully they come back in stock consistently!
I’ve been giving bfs a shot and it’s been fun for sure and cool getting new gear and baits but I can have dinkfests on traditional sized stuff too so idk if it’s worth several hundred bucks in new gear when u can get several hundred bucks in more of your favorite normal baits or just not spend several hundred bucks haha The part where the big one was attacking the small one that was hooked just goes to show if ya use the bigger stuff you’re gunna get the bigger fish
I went last Sunday for about an hour on one of the ponds I fish. Started with the Karashi on spinning gear but they were missing it. Switched to a MegaBass 110 Jr on my BFS rig and caught a few small ones. Was about to leave but decided to make two more casts. Next cast I hooked into a 5.20 pounder. So much fun on BFS! It t-boned it and got 5 of the 9 hooks. It took me around the pond for a few minutes with a couple of big head shake jumps but stayed pinned. 😁 Lots of 2”-2.5” fry around the bank edges. Good day for the downsized baits!
@@tacticalbassin it was my best bass this year and the adrenaline pump was off the charts! 😁👍 The best part with BFS is even the smaller ones are a blast to catch!
Yo Matt i ended up picking up that steez finesse game special for $200. Feels like a good BFS rod so far won’t know till I get it out on the water. But you’re right nothing like that 7’2 ML punching stick lol
Nice footage but it always cringes me, when you boat flip with these delicate rods (I fish the PopX stick and the Cliff Hanger and wouldn‘t dare to even lift a one pounder :)). Have a nice weekend Matt!
As for boat flipping!!! That’s all I do unless there’s money on the line and no rules against a net. I will net a big fish. But the key is get that fish coming fast as possible to the boat and use that momentum to lift em up and in the boat. Let the fish put its self in the boat. I have never broken a rod that way
I know you said you like the icon for dedicated Karashi, would you suggest it for all treble hook baits or is there better option for an all around treble hook rod?
Tie up some maribou trebles on those Megabass baby pop x and dog x jr coayu and watch them go crazy. Especially on small mouth in the river I fish in Ohio
Matt, I would think the mini or micro flex rig running super small baits (eg 2.8 keitech) would do well. But I was on Lake Norman this past week and could not get a bite on them. But then I caught them really well on a 1/8 guppy head with a 2.75 swammer. I have yet to catch a fish on an A-right so I’m sure it was me. Fished secondary points in half way back to all the way back of creeks. Any idea?
I purchased your full Karashi setup as a first timer to baitcasters. I’m struggling with my drag settings. What do you recommend as a good starting point for throwing the Karashi?
It's funny we here in Southern Cali all we get is small lakes and resivors that are absolutely overdressed beyond belief. It's hard af to catch bass..I'm talking ie and SD. Where exactly are you guys at now or where you fishing
It’s a really dope rod. I just gave mine to my brother for his birthday. I’m probably gonna get another one though cause I liked it a lot. My other two favorites that I have are my Daiwa steez AGS 6’8 light and my Daiwa PX ultra light both phenomenal rods as well. I’m waiting on my Megabass great hunting rod too for my trout fishing. Hope this helps have a good night tight lines.
I think you mentioned the 6’8 lite shimano was a great all purpose BFS rod if you were only going to have one setup. How do you like the Curado? Is it worth the extra spend to get the expride?
The curado is the same action, but if Expride is in your budget, the weight difference and "crisp" feeling it gives to your bottom contact is worth every dollar.
I wanted to try one but after waiting 2 months I cancelled my order. Will never shop with edge again. Im good with my other bfs rods steez ags 6’8 light and my Daiwa PX ultra light and the orochi x10 cliffhanger.
We use everything from everyone... we're the exact opposite of what this comment insinuated. You'll never find anyone who strives to be more neutral, at great personal expense, I might add, than we are. We buy it all, try it all, and share truth. We've been doing it for 14 years and don't plan to stop.
@@richardkeller6940 because he never tries anything different. always the same baits every single time. that's why he doesn't win much...plus he doesn't know how to read the lakes that he's on...
When he says as fast as he can work it he means it. What I will say in my experience with it though is you aren’t hitting the bait hard at all. It’s super fast taps but it’s just that, taps. Anything more than just tapping the slack out of the line and it blows the bait out. Atleast for me.
I’m not sure I want to commit an entire combo to solely bfs. Would it be possible to use the new Daiwa sv tw tatula 100 to throw a Kuroshi or is that just wishful thinking? (I haven’t purchased the Daiwa yet)
I have a Shimano aldebaran 50 that I use on my topwater setup and I can confidently say that I wouldn’t use it for the kuroshi. For me the kuroshi is solely thrown on bfs because it’s not got the best weight transfer system. It actually even takes some learning to cast it well on bfs gear. Hope that helps.
If anyone reads this. I’m looking to buy my first BFS rod/reel …. my brain is overloaded with all the options. Has anyone heard of Kistler rods? I was on their website and noticed their stuff is on sale. From what I found out they seem to be very good, but I’m having trouble with my decision. Any help would be great. I am open to all brands with a budget of three to $400 or both. Thanks in advance.😂
Have you and Tim ever fished against each other (both fishing on bow so no advantage) with the same BFS baits but one of you using straight braid and the other using a leader to see if there’s really that much or any difference?
There are huge differences, but it just comes down to fish behavior that day. Fluoro will tend to cast easier/farther on bfs with light weight baits, braid will cast farther with heavier baits that are pushing the limits of the reel. Braid to leader will give more erratic action to your hardbaits, but again, generally won't throw them as far. It's not a better/worse scenario. Just convenience vs necessity.
@@tacticalbassin I’m mainly talking about the amount of fish being caught from them seeing braid vs flouro leader in open water. I use straight braid and do great with it but I’m in a vegetation and brush environment usually.
I have a 2020 steez air TW 500HL paired to a custom Daiwa steez real control BFS rod that isn’t even available to the market. It’s a 1100 dollar BFS combo.

That’s what I tell my wife too, “It ain’t about catching a big one; it’s about getting bit.” Idk that she feels the same after the 2 minutes is up. 😜😂

Looks like a typical day fishing for me but Im throwing nothing smaller than 4 inch baits. Lots of fun.

That's a cool set of $20 lures that I would not dare to use because of pikes.

I still prefer spinning gear for my lightweight baits. After using them for over 40 years I just can’t make the switch. Muscle memory I guess
There's nothing wrong with that 😊 Muscle memory is real!
I don't know if you have made a video about it before but I would like to see a bassin on a budget video. I can't afford a bunch of $15 to $20 lures.
We've done a few 👍🏼 Search "tacticalbassin budget" and you'll get a whole list of great content.
Matt...what color Karashi is great for cloudy days?
Whats your pb bfs fish?
I would bet if you talked about a bait that TW had a good stock of, they would sell out.
The expride 6'10" medium jerkbait rod would be a little too heavy action for most bfs lures, right?
definitely

Rule #1. Use pliers. Rule #2. Always use pliers. The BFS treble hooks are sharp AF.
I 100% of the time use pliers for treble hook baits. I got a fly stuck in my arm once and that was a lesson for me to stay away from hooks lol
