Location
1. The Pools of Bethesda are located on the property of the Church of St. Anne.
2. The Church of St. Anne is located just inside the Lions’ Gate at the eastern entrance of the Old City.
3. The Church of St. Anne is known for its extraordinary acoustics, and visitors singing hymns of praise to God can often be heard there.
4. The ruins of the Jewish, Roman, Byzantine, and Crusader eras are still well preserved at the Pool of Bethesda.
Historical Background
1. The Pool of Bethesda marks the place where a sick man was healed.
2. Bethesda means “House of Mercy” and has been associated with a place of healing for many years. According to the Gospel of John, Bethesda was a bathing pool with five porticoes or porches. Remains of part of these porticoes can still be seen today.
3. It should be noted that the pool that can be seen today is the corner of the southern pool. You will also note that it is significantly below the level today of the city today. That is because Jerusalem is really a large tel. A tel is something that develops and grows in height as one civilization builds upon another. Therefore, since the time of Christ, the city has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. That is why the pool is below the surface of the city today.
4. In around 700 BC, during the time of King Hezekiah, there was a large cistern built here to capture the water from the area and use it for the temple use of purification and animal preparations.
5. Later, in around 200 BC, another pool was built beside the first one. The first pool would become known as the southern pool, and the second one as the northern pool.
6. These pools, or also known as cisterns, were close by to the Temple Mount, and there was a gate close by known as the sheep gate that led up to the Temple Mount.
7. In the first century BC, prior to the birth of Christ, there were healing baths built here dedicated to the Greek false god, Asclepius.
8. When the Roman Emperor, Hadrian, rebuilt Jerusalem as Aelia Capitolina in 135 AD, he built a large temple to Asclepius and Serapis, the Greek false gods of healing and believed deity.
9. After Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire, the temple Hadrian had erected was torn down and a large Byzantine basilica was built over its ruins in around 450 AD.
10. Close-by to the Byzantine Basilica was a grotto dedicated to the believed place where Mary’s parents, Anne and Joachim lived, and where Mary, the mother of Jesus, was born.
11. In 614, the Byzantine Basilica was destroyed by the Persians.
Later, in 1138 AD, the Basilica of St. Anne was erected over the site of the grotto believed by the Crusaders to be the birthplace of Mary mother of Jesus. The church is dedicated to Anna and Joachim, who according to tradition lived here, and the site where their daughter, Mary, was born in a cave which is located under the basilica. It is a well-preserved Crusader churches in Israel.
12. Three episodes from the life of the Mary are depicted at the front of the high altar in the Church of St Anne: The Annunciation on the right; the Descent of Jesus from the Cross in the center; and the Nativity of Jesus on the left. On the left-hand side of the altar is an illustration of the education of Mary by St Anne. On the right-hand side is a portrayal of the Presentation of the Mary at the Temple. A flight of stone steps descends from the south aisle to the crypt. This cave is the supposed remains of the house of Anne and Joachim, and the birthplace of Mary. Here, in a tiny chapel with a domed ceiling, an altar is dedicated to the birth of Mary.
13. In 1192, after the fall of the Crusader Kingdom, Saladin turned the church into a theological school for the study of the Quran, which is commemorated in an inscription above the entrance to the church.

I don’t know how I managed to miss this video, however it is right on time with what I am studying in the Bible, the Gospels, using a chronological One Year Bible. I have been reading about this very subject. I am also very familiar with the movies (the 4 Gospels) starring Selva Rasalingam as Jesus, I don’t even look at anyone else but him and those movies. Thankyou…… the lame man was Yeshuas sacrifice, on the Sabbath; What I do know is that, servants of G-d can pray over someone in great affliction, even many times, but if the afflicted one only seeks physical relief, still uninterested in turning to Him and submitting fully to His word, it can be greater if they are not healed (they might need even longer and greater affliction to turn to Him) ………..
This is the one event which sparked a flame of hope in hopelessness; paralysis, pain and spiritual death for decades….. feels….. like eternity but it is not, the hope is, based in the Abrahamic promise in His Kingdom, we will receive New Kingdom bodies which is eternal …….. Also, I will continue to say L-rd Messiah is great despite any and all circumstances, I am very blessed to be able to receive His word, walking or not.

A lot of Bibles have been changed even if in the Bible it says "who changes the words of the Lord must be put to death" because changing the words of God is evil it diminishes our faith in the omnipotent of God! The act of changing the Bible (even catholic Bibles have been changed) is evil! And it seems to confirm the worries of many that this is the time of the beast!

The lady that was healed had various health problems. She had stomach issues and had to be on a special diet, she would get extremely nauseous if she bent over, she had extremely strong migraine headaches, and she had internal ear problems that caused dizziness. She had suffered in this state for several years. It was so bad you could barely get by. She couldn't work or do hardly anything. For some reason, she had strong faith that if she was baptized in the Jordan River that God might heal her. While at the baptismal site where Jesus was baptized, our group prayed over her and then her husband I baptized her. She was instantaneously healed. Praise the Lord!

My heart rejoices for his lady s healing. I was miraculously saved by a bullet by two invisible HUGE hands (I felt 4 fingers on the front of the shoulders and the things at the back) that grabbed me at the shoulders and, despite I fought with all my strength to stay put, with great force they moved me to the left. As soon as both feet where one step to the left the bullet hit my strong plastic carrier bag (leaving a hit mark) and hit a short metal column for car parks borders ahead of me. It was Easter holiday (just before Easter day) 2006.

When Jesus said your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more lest a worst thing fall upon you, he is talking about doctrine for everyone. Salvation is for us to not sin anymore, not that one of those sick people had some kind of unique sin. This is for all of us! Hebrews 3, 6, and 10 . if we continue to sin after we receive the holy ghost and gifts of the spirit we trample on the blood of christ and make the covenant of no effect in us and the only thing that remains is judgment.

Pastor....I cannot believe that you would tell people that if a miracle of healing doesn’t occur it is because they are sinful....are the children afflicted with cancer and die not healed because they have sin in their lives, or that they were impure of heart in some way?.....think about the message you just gave to the faithful......I’m flabbergasted, I adore your channel, I love seeing the Holy Land and the areas of Biblical importance and I pray you will find a way to preach that message in a different light....God Bless...and Keep You!
Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry that I maybe didn't make myself clear. In the video I mentioned that there were 7 purposes for sickness. I mentioned that one purpose of sickness is because of sin. This is evidenced in 1 Cor. 11, and the words Jesus said to the lame man. I am not saying that because healing doesn't occur that it is because of sin, not in any way. However, it is a possibility according to Scripture. So again, I am not saying that if someone is not healed it is absolutely because of sin. As I mentioned, there are more purposes God has for sickness that just one. Sometimes God doesn't heal us because He has other reasons for not doing so, which I mentioned in the video. Humbly said, I am just saying what Scripture says, nothing more, nothing less. I'm sorry if you feel differently or I didn't make myself clear in the video. Maybe you might want to watch the video again and see if you still feel the way you do. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion, but I am not saying that if a miracle of healing doesn't occur that it is because we are sinful. However, it is a possibility according to Scripture.

In the Bible it also says that God punishes the sins of the Fathers down to the fourth generation. Sometimes is just God that puts us to the test. I always pray God to not put me to the test for that reason! Look at the story of Job! But there is always a good purpose with God. I always say God be thy will done with me, because every time I thought I could take wise decisions by myself without praying to God for guidance and His will, I made a total disaster!
All sickness is the result of original sin from Adam and Eve.
Jesus also said to the gentile or Canadian woman with a sick daughter "the food is for the CHILDREN" and she replied yes Lord but even the dogs lick up the crumbles that fall under the table. So there was a special relationship between the Jews and God. Even the name Israel the people of God!

Did you say around 15:28 that Jesus is God the Father in the flesh? Most Christians believe that Jesus is the Second Person of the Trinity, The Word, the Son of God incarnate as opposed to God the Father incarnate. How do you reconcile the difference?
Isaiah 9:6: For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Therefore, at that pool in Jesus' day, an angel of God the Father would from time to time stir the waters, thereby giving the water miraculous healing power. Is that right? Why weren't all the lame getting healed in the pool? Why would God's angel grant healing to the fastest lame person? Other places in the bible say that the last will be first and that God is no respecter of persons.
I've read that this pool of occasional healing was part of a greek pagan god cult and these jewish folks, desperate to try anything, were partaking in a pagan practice by even counting on that stirred water to heal them.
Jesus, I feel, went there to show who the true healer was.
