  • Here's a video-walking tour of the Castillo De San Marcos, the Bayfront, and Saint George Street in downtown St. Augustine during the arrival of Hurricane Ian 9/29/2022. Ian arrived around high tide and brought plenty of flooding with it, though, not as bad as South Florida.

I haven't seen St. Augustine since I was a kid, more than 50 years ago. Nice to see the old fort is still weathering the storms of time and tide. I guess you could say they knew how to build them back then.

It is amazing how the decision making changes if you actually pay attention to the place your building in through time. Even flagler's buildings were high and dry.

By this time it was just a tropical storm and on the safe side of wild. If you're prepared for it and familiar with the conditions it can be relatively safe. For example it would not be safe for me in a Canadian winter! 😂

Laura a trooper .. the spray foam works but will absorb water and seep .. the now known secret is spray the foam with flex seal and its so effective you'd probably do a jig in the street.. wish we knew that , got a foot of fresh in Ponce inlet gf house and waist deep in the road , all fresh.. I recorded 38 " of rain in Wilbur by the sea in 36 hrs.. thanks captain for the footage pretty damn good job . Bout a l00 yds up the street got houses hanging over the edge , Daytona shores , north and south had epic seawall failures everywhere. A sight to behold .

there is sewage in the water...everything breaks: the septic tanks, sewer lines etc...and there are alligators and snakes...what happens when a live electrical line is in the water, and you are walking near it?>...you put yourself in harm's way just to make a video?????....

Meanwhile you still chose to click on the video and watch it. So you can’t even complain when you chose to click on it, knowing very well would it would be about. Also in case you didn’t realize it which I’m sure you didn’t since all you seem to wanna do with your comment is be rude, and talk shit….he isn’t the only person in Florida who has made a video documenting the destruction of Hurricane Ian, and to be honest….the footage from these types of videos is sure as a hell a lot better then what the news channels be putting out. If him putting himself into “harm’s way” for the video bothered you so much….you could’ve easily have clicked off, and not left this comment. There’s a difference between constructive criticism, and being rude and disrespectful…..I guess you don’t know or understand the difference.

A few years ago the city installed plugs under the manhole covers. They are very effective keeping water out from floods. Don't know if anything was installed on the lift station in the downtown plaza. I would stay clear of the restaurants. They have grease traps that release used kitchen oil. Then the flood waters can enter the sanitary system. But with the power outage the water will just have to sit in the sewer and storm drains won't drain until the surge recedes.

How did St.Augustine fare over all? Was just up there yesterday for a Greek Festival and Mojos tacos. Didn't notice anything but that doesn't mean anything.

Certainly a possibility but we didn't even see mullet! If you watch animals, they know when the storms are coming. It's the humans who stick around...

It's amazing, even with all that moving water we didn't even see mullet swept up into the city. I guess animals are too smart to stick around during a storm.
