- Here's a video-walking tour of the Castillo De San Marcos, the Bayfront, and Saint George Street in downtown St. Augustine during the arrival of Hurricane Ian 9/29/2022. Ian arrived around high tide and brought plenty of flooding with it, though, not as bad as South Florida.

hes a local, guys.
We act different... 😆
That doesn't mean anything. Locals mess up too
I haven't seen St. Augustine since I was a kid, more than 50 years ago. Nice to see the old fort is still weathering the storms of time and tide. I guess you could say they knew how to build them back then.
It is amazing how the decision making changes if you actually pay attention to the place your building in through time. Even flagler's buildings were high and dry.
Amazing footage! I remember visiting the fortress as a teenager with my family.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the great video , kind of different to see flooded the historic cost of old St. Augustine , visited with my parents Five decades ago ..., so glad you made this twenty minute video safe back home, kind of dangerous to walk in flooded areas where sewage or electric cover plates could have been open !!!!! ....Glad you were Safe all the way thru ..., I could tell you did enjoy the moment !!! ..... after seeing this video definitely makes me and my wife to check out St. Augustine another time, wife hasen´t been in this historical city. Until then keep safe my friends.
Walking tour was great, thank you!
Visited St Augustine for the first time days before the storm. Had a lovely time, hope all's back to normal soon
Thank you for this walking tour, I found it exceptional! 🤗
I've vacationed in st.augustine since I was 3 every year for 20 years. I truly do hope the best for everyone in the aftermath.
Hope you guys are safe and not to bad of damage or loss, and I can’t imagine being out walking in a hurricane 🌀 but I wonder how different it is than us going out in the blizzards we get and -45C weather in Alberta prairies. Thank you so much for the video showing us what you all are dealing with. My heart goes out to you all ❤ 🤗
By this time it was just a tropical storm and on the safe side of wild. If you're prepared for it and familiar with the conditions it can be relatively safe. For example it would not be safe for me in a Canadian winter! 😂
I agree not a good idea to wade in the water during or after a hurricane. One active power line. Would have killed both of you.
Wow used to lived in ormond by the sea and came to SA for lunches and side trips almost everyweek until 2002. Times have change and glad to be out of there. Best of luck to all !
watched this whole video... the commentary you did was very good, and helped us understand the lay of things. TY for showing us this hard time for you all there! Prayers for you?
Thank you for the comment. I was born and raised in the city and most of the news only focuses on The Sensational and misses the details. Thanks for watching!
My gosh, Lauren, I can't believe it,you are also very brave to walk through the water,uf,God bless you.
thanks for the tour, St. Augustine is a gorgeous place.
My husband and I was just there a couple of months ago. Enjoyed the beautiful city. Hate to see all the little places we went to flooded. You two braved that storm to video this. Glad you were safe.
Sending my warmest regards and my love to you all we had a huge flooding here a few months ago also around the same time mother earth is rebuking some of the recent global developments. Kia kaha. Lots of love.
Excellent video ! Wow ! Thats crazy ! I give ya credit ! Really shows how bad the flooding was ! Harry's !....had some good meals there ! Stood in the park a few times, singing Christmas carols after the British Night parade, and gun salute !
This is an amazing video. Thank you. I just subscribed to your youtube canal. Can't wait to see more about the recovery of this beautiful St. Augustine city. I visited for the first time in August 2022, and I am in love ❤️ with it.
Thank you so much and welcome to the journey!
Laura a trooper .. the spray foam works but will absorb water and seep .. the now known secret is spray the foam with flex seal and its so effective you'd probably do a jig in the street.. wish we knew that , got a foot of fresh in Ponce inlet gf house and waist deep in the road , all fresh.. I recorded 38 " of rain in Wilbur by the sea in 36 hrs.. thanks captain for the footage pretty damn good job . Bout a l00 yds up the street got houses hanging over the edge , Daytona shores , north and south had epic seawall failures everywhere. A sight to behold .
I’m on Cardinal in the Shores right by (what’s left of) Sunglow Pier. Had no idea that much flooding happened in Ponce.
GREAT video with interesting helpful commentary! You're a hardy jovial couple sharing practical insights.
Glad you liked it! It's easier to be in good spirits when there isn't a direct threat to life or property. Davis Shores got hit hard and hundreds of families are still recovering.
Yes, so many are suffering tremendous loss and hardships. Are relatives in Florida were lucky this time also.
wow, I was in St Augustine recently and what a difference since Ian.
I think it rather foolhardy and risky to walk through flood waters. Hats off to you for taking that chance!!!
I live in Pinckard, Alabama, and I just want to say thank you for the video.
Thank you for this amazing journey. So much better than TV
Glad you enjoyed it!
Crazy to see! I was here just a couple months ago, love this area. We live by the St. John’s river and have been dealing with a different type of flooding but our home is ok.
Good you hear yall are ok!
@@SmithWorksStudios how did your home do?
Water only to the bottom step. The house is up on pilings.
UNREAL,I am in FLORIDA, Homosassa..We were good, thank God.
I live in St. Augustine. Downtown makes it seem really bad but it just floods more easily lol. It wasn’t bad at all at my house
OMG! I didn't know that was the adorable little house you guys lived at. I always pass it on my way to work and i just love the little houses down town. Funny enough that white truck was me and my friends!
I just now came up on this video, it was great. GREAT JOB!!! I hope you guys came out It ok..
Thankyou so much for your Vid...My wife and I were there in June....Our favorite place to visit in Florida....
Our pleasure!
Love St.Augustine & was just there bout 8 weeks ago....sorry for your troubles...
You two are too cool Thanks for Sharing
Our pleasure!
⚔️ I was born in St. Augustine but now live in Daytona Beach. It's bad here but it looks much worse in St. Augustine. As for my sister and I nothing happened to us at all, nothing! We kept the door open all night so we could watch the storm. All around our area was flooding and people lost power but nothing happened in our apartment complex. Figure that! Your video is the best one I've seen so far, well done and thank you very much. Stay safe and may God bless. 🙏

Thanks for sharing. 40 miles can make such a difference in the impact of the wind.
My son attends Flagler college over there. Great video. Thanks for posting it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Walking in the ocean sounds exciting and fun! 🤗
I’m St Aug resident and Flagler alumni living in Texas. Good seeing your video but y’all kinda crazy, in a good way. All I was thinking was gator, gator, gator! All my childhood I never saw the water come that high in to town. Global warming is real.
It was a pretty good one although still about to feet below Matthew. Luckily I wasn't worried about Gators because it was salt water. Only sharks, sewage, and bits of floating dock 😉
And how is that global warming?
Yep, it's time to leave coastal areas and flood plains! It's a hard decision for people to make yet starting over is vastly easier than continuous climate catastrophies from humans burning fossil fuels.
@@susanallen1840 The waters are so warm that makes for bigger more powerful hurricanes. The larger the waves the closes they come on shore. Why is it warm because we have destroyed the ozone by cutting down trees and riding in our 1 of 3 cars. I’m just as guilty. This is as simple as I can put it.
@@Vbluevital it makes me sad to hear this reality. Probably why I haven’t moved back. You can homeowners, grants, and FEMA to replace your things but you still need your savings too. That hurt year after year. Sad because it is the most beautiful place to live. Pray your health, peace and prosperity be in your favor.
there is sewage in the water...everything breaks: the septic tanks, sewer lines etc...and there are alligators and snakes...what happens when a live electrical line is in the water, and you are walking near it?>...you put yourself in harm's way just to make a video?????....
All of that is true, except for the Harm's Way for the sake of a video. We put ourself at limited risk for the sake of adventure. I have done this walk many times in similar storms. I am native to this place and cherish experiencing it in all its forms.
I too lived in St Augustine and it floods often with high tides or storms coming in. There isn’t always sewage in the water. I did avoid the flooding because I was more concerned with flesh eating bacteria etc then sewage.
You forgot about Sharknatos also. 😅
Meanwhile you still chose to click on the video and watch it. So you can’t even complain when you chose to click on it, knowing very well would it would be about. Also in case you didn’t realize it which I’m sure you didn’t since all you seem to wanna do with your comment is be rude, and talk shit….he isn’t the only person in Florida who has made a video documenting the destruction of Hurricane Ian, and to be honest….the footage from these types of videos is sure as a hell a lot better then what the news channels be putting out. If him putting himself into “harm’s way” for the video bothered you so much….you could’ve easily have clicked off, and not left this comment. There’s a difference between constructive criticism, and being rude and disrespectful…..I guess you don’t know or understand the difference.
A few years ago the city installed plugs under the manhole covers. They are very effective keeping water out from floods. Don't know if anything was installed on the lift station in the downtown plaza. I would stay clear of the restaurants. They have grease traps that release used kitchen oil. Then the flood waters can enter the sanitary system. But with the power outage the water will just have to sit in the sewer and storm drains won't drain until the surge recedes.
Great video. We travel to St. Augustine several times a year. We got hammered by Ian in Southwest Florida and I am shocked how strong it was up there.
Thanks so must for showing us what happened, with the hurricane in St Augustine, uf you are really brave ,to go through all that water ,uff it was a lot in the city, but nothing compared what happens others towns, cities.
I really enjoyed this video. I guess one would say it takes Courage and/or stupidity to do such a thing: not for the faint of heart. I couldn't do it although I was curious to know what actually happens during the time of high tide and wind during a hurricane. Kudos!
This makes me so sad. My heart prayers and money go to all of you! I'm so sorry!
Great video, glad you're safe!!!! Been to southwest Fla and North Eastern Fla many many time, driven across the state several times too, it's flat like a pancake there, nothing to stop flooding, very scary to me!!!!!
I live in St. Augustine - off SR 16. As usual, a part of Masters Drive flooded, and SR 16 where Masters Drive meets SR 16. Thank you for this video. It really gives us an idea about what happens in the Colonial Area!!
Love St. Augustine! Sorry to see this yet again. Excellent coverage by a local, Thank you!
Thank you for this video.
thank you for the video I was supposed to do a bead show out there last weekend but I canceled going because of the flooding and just the fact that I didn't feel comfortable people spending money after what you guys went through. I live in central fl so I genuinely understand please stay safe.
It's actually a good idea to go & spend $ there. Think of how much all those businesses are losing everyday.
Damn Im glad my hometown weathered the storm as it always does.
Hi I like your Vlog. It is surprising amount of water. Visited several times hence now your walk. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Really enjoyed your video
from Port Charlotte Florida ✌🏽
great video
I saw a shark in a person’s backyard in Cape Coral. That plus electricity and down lines make it not good to walk around in flood water! Thanks for the coverage, but avoid the deep water next time! There were power lines down across the state
Thanks for sharing.
This is the best use of all these technology, videography and YouTubing, one could see and understand what is happening around the world... Still wonder why aren't you staying at home or safer place but nevertheless thanks for such unedited video.... God bless you all
My wife and I have twin sons. They stayed home safe with my parents. We were not in much of a meaningful risk with good situational awareness. Accidents can happen but this is not new territory for me.
Sorry to see this town flood we have visited here many times beautiful old town
We have a vacation retirement home there. We are fairly close to the beach. Thankfully, our home was unaffected. My ❤heart goes out to everyone their in St.Augustine and Southwest Florida that got hit hard by Ian. God Bless
I was born and raised there, moved awhile ago to GA, so sad to see home like this.
So dangerous walking through that water, You never now what could have been in it. We saw bull sharks 1/2 mile inland near Punta Gorda. Good to know you made it through ok.
THANKS FOR THE INFO. WILL BE THERE IN DECEMBER, I HOPE. HOPE THINGS WILL BE OK BY THEN. STAY SAFE.
Mary's Cafe that flooded was serving breakfast by Sunday haha! That's one of the philosophies around town: design your building like a bathtub, let the water out, wipe it down, and keep going 😅
This does not seem safe walking through all of that water. It could have taken you down. Glad to see you made it safe. 🙌
We didn't have it too-too bad out north of the airport. Lots of wind, rain and debris of course but we dodged another bullet🙏 Matthew was worse but hey....we made it thru that one too. Peace out!
Great video!
Good report to get. Beware of electrical shock from flooded ground mounted transformers. Snakes & gators from the farm too
I lived further down US1 off Segovia Rd when i was a St. Johns County resident. I love my lil town and miss it but currently reside in TN. We never took on much flooding over where i lived, but then again, this is the spanish quarter where youre right there at the intercoastal waterway and the atlantic. It ALWAYS floods San Marcos and the historic distric. I cant imagine the insurance costs, but i hate seeing my lil town flooded. However, folks have to understand this is nature if you choose to live in places like this. Sad but inevitable.
Wow they don't even talk about what happened on the east coast of Florida or inland communities over flowing rivers just the south east coast but really all of Florida was effected in some way!!! Wow
Wow, it's interesting to see the landmarks around there. I wonder what the Bridge of Lions looked like? I was there almost two weeks ago, and I can't believe how it almost looked like nothing happened!
Lucky for Us,( once again) St. Aug was only hit by tropical storm conditions.
You shouldn’t be walking without boots my dad died with leptospirosis just like that 😭
Wow, thanks for sharing. We rinsed with rubbing alcohol and took good showers when we got back.
Was just there over Christmas last year. How sad!
That lovely old house could get flooded, but the truck is up on a ramp. 🤯
That wind is no joke. If anyone wonders. No you cannot sleep in a hurricane with the wind ripping and you can hear things flying or trees snapping. I don't live down town like them, I am out in the woods off 16.
We flood here EVERY Nor Eastern. Always have, always will. I’m born and raised. This is normal.
So dangerous walking through that!
i was on carrera street during the storm, we get pretty good flooding, didnt come up to the house though
Scott! That’s my guy !
Omgosh all that water
All I kept thinking was, y’all are crazy 😜 😂
Only a little. Pretty low risk.
@@SmithWorksStudios it looked pretty scary, glad y’all are safe
Step into an open manhole and your a gone. Great video. Living on the edge
ty for a great video, poor bayfront businrsses
I live there and when the water got that high I got freaked out
Looks like the old Fort has better coastal defenses than the rest of Florida.
Well done current Floridian authorities leaving individuals alone to fend for their lives and properties.
Our house is about a hundred years old and raised up about 3 ft on brick pilings. It's amazing how things get built if they are intended to last, or withstand Pirates 😉
That's insane
That poor bird at 6:34 trying to stay out of the wind
Honor and Respect 🪶
Greetings from Unceded Timucua Territory.
WOW 😦😲😲😲😲!!salt water intrusion!!poor plants
15:04 shows the resiliency of our citizens even during a storm like Ian. USA, USA, USA...
shows their stupidity wading through these waters. They could easily be injured and then expect someone to rescue them. Mad to do this wading around.
We were camping at Anastasia State Park and were told to evacuate Tuesday before storm hit
Any videos on other side of bride of lions
Not from us but the north of the island was flooded pretty bad. My estimate is at least 100 families are out of their homes.
No this is what happens when we strip land of all natural resources temperatures go up and nothing to help break wind speed we stripe the land
Hi l also live in staugustine
wow
De onde sai tanta água
I go to st augustine all the time. Local or not yall are crazy lol.
How did St.Augustine fare over all? Was just up there yesterday for a Greek Festival and Mojos tacos. Didn't notice anything but that doesn't mean anything.
Overall pretty well but the families affected were hit pretty hard.
@@SmithWorksStudios Sorry to read it. Sending prayers im everyones direction affected by Ian up there.
So, was this considered a smart thing to do?
And informative. Yes.
I wasn't thinking gator as much as shark shark sharks!!!
Certainly a possibility but we didn't even see mullet! If you watch animals, they know when the storms are coming. It's the humans who stick around...
You know all the insurance companies were going CHA CHING🤑🤑🤑🤑
18.39 atleast jacksparrow is kinda in its zone seas high waves storm only things missin is blackpearl and a kraken
How about that, you could drive your boat to your front door. I would be afraid of sharks.
It's amazing, even with all that moving water we didn't even see mullet swept up into the city. I guess animals are too smart to stick around during a storm.
Living in Florida you better have flood insurance
I can't tell the difference between water flooding and the ocean.
These properties are all on exteded land where water was moved to build the properties.
This js why you see houses just raised by dirt on a hill in areas like yours
This wad such a dangerous thing to do.
Only dangerous if unprepared.
