Dearest Ruby: I can't remember when someone has documented something of this caliber in such extraordinary detail and clarity. We all know this was terribly traumatic for you, but thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. I am grateful you are safe, and that your home did not receive any more damage than it did. May God bless and comfort you and your community as you rebuild your lives. Continued prayers for you all.
Traumatic is when you sitting on the tip of your roof with 13 feet water fighting off snakes day night for 3 days... That was my Neighbor, not me.. he stayed... He said it took 30min to get 13 feet, an that's 5 miles inland...This is Katrina I'm talking about...

@@MkFromMkorNoK I'm really sorry that you lost your home in Katrina. I completely understand your anger and bitterness. What I don't understand is why you would direct that at people who were fortunate enough to not lose their homes in subsequent hurricanes. They aren't at fault for Katrina or the clusterfuck that followed. Your misdirected angst is only hurting you, and isn't gonna change a thing. Great job narrarating this horrific event!!! As a survivor of hurricanes, my hats off to you for remaining so calm during the entire process. I will certainly pray and support those impacted as I recall having nightmares for months even though I was more prepared than most.
Wow, crazy experience! You took some fantastic footage and did great reporting during the storm, and stayed seemingly calm through it all. You are one brave and resilient lady.

My heart breaks for SW FL, and the impact on the people, the pets and wildlife in that beautiful area. Sending you and the SW coast strength and prayers as you begin the painful recovery.
I seriously doubt Mother Nature destroyed what she loves. Looks more like weather modification to me; HAARP, DARPA, etc. The military patents can easily be accessed online.

Me too!! I live in Conshohocken Pennsylvania, 20 minutes from Philadelphia!! WE get remnants from storms like Sandy, Aida, and now Ian, but I've never been in the direct path of the eye of a storm!!! WE get blizzards and 2 feet of snow from time to time, but snow isn't as destructive as storm surge!!! Your comment made me smile 😃
Even after a hurricane I love living in FL. I don't miss the snow at all. The price you pay for paradise and the last water surge like this was over 50 years ago. We are Florida strong and love my Florida and will never go back to NJ winters, every single year.
I recently moved to Cleveland from Texas. We took a direct hit from Ike back in 2008, and I have very sad memories from hurricane Harvey, it was awful. Still, I prefer living In Texas than 6 months of snow. I feel so sad for beautiful Florida. We go every year to enjoy the beautiful weather and beaches. We will be back! Praying for all people in Florida.
Great vid showing the hurricane effects. I live in Naples (39 years) and the storm surge is what got us. Winds were not that bad. What was scary was being in the house seemingly trapped as the water rose. Home flooded with salt water muck but my wife and I or OK and thank God for that. It's devastating to lose all your "stuff" but we are so thankful to be alive and pray for all those who fared worse.

I know how you feel. My mom lives a few miles off the coast of the gulf right where Ian hit and I lost contact with her after a few hours and her area was predicted 12-18 feet of storm surge. The next morning she finally was able to call me and I literally just balled my eyes out. I had heard of some others who called search and rescue on their parents and it was scaring me all day, I was glued to my phone. I grew up in the area but I’m now in Orlando, I wished the entire time she came and stayed with me 😂 glad your father was okay!❤

Dear Ruby, Thank you for this well documented account of the tragedy at Cape Coral. My heart goes out to everyone who suffered destruction caused by hurricane Ian. Your account is very well carried out. You told the story in an unusually calm and composed way. Your home was probably not flooded, or it would have been documented. I am glad you are ok after this ordeal.
It looked like the waves on the canal changed direction during the hurricane. You were very brave to video tape this experience so those of us elsewhere and north of the USA border could see from your personal view what you folks go through during these devastating storms and flooding. Thank you for posting this and thank goodness you are all safe. 🇨🇦
It looks like she’s not far from me. With my house the wind came from the backside for the first half and then the front for the second half, we never got the eye just rode the right eye wall the whole way
The winds started from the East, and we were okay. When they switched to coming from the South we were "screwed". My roof was okay, had just been replaced 11 months prior. My 'cage' was destroyed. We also had 6" of water in the house. BTW - Our house was between Cap Harbor and the Westin.
@@lordTowle That seems to be how it went for everyone. Almost like the first winds loosened everything up, than a little calm, and than pounded with the wind from the back side that just tore everything up.
@@lordTowle I agree we got easterly winds, then southern winds and finally westerly winds. The winds coming from south took my roof shingles, all the trees and fence down in the backyard. I lost shingles from every direction except the north side of my house.
Yall had a hurricane hit Canada too right before this I live about 3 hours north of where this hit so we just had a generic tropical storm here nothing big but the night before it came through there was a really low (I mean really low clouds < 100' in the air) That's why it was so bad this windy front that came down from Georgia pushed a lot of water south right into the hurricane that's where the storm surge really came from I live 3 miles from the coast pasco county
I am just so sorry!! That is beyond devastating!! We live in Pinellas County and had mandatory evacuations, we live 7 miles from the beach. The feeling of "knowing" it's headed straight for you is completely consuming, my heart goes out to you! All of the county is a flood zone, so we are thankful our property is still here but hurt for you all. We evacuated to Orlandoand, heard later, it was headed for us! Roofs were torn off, electric was out all night and part of the morning, restaurants were underwater and all those beautiful palm trees on the interstate were sheared off. New construction homes were leveled. I 4 was under water so we had to wait a day to go home. The amount of damage is more than I can put in to words. I am so thankful you are ok and I pray for all of you.
Thanks for sharing your video, I'm from New Orleans. No stranger to storms, it's still scary to go through. Hang in there, all of us Texas have y'all in our thoughts and prayers.
Marly, I am so sorry about your home.. It was my first, and maybe last, hurricane as a three year Florida resident. I got lucky, but many neighbors didn't.
I live in Palm harbor and only six hundred feet from the gulf but twenty feet above sea level. Areas of Pinellas county are the highest on the west coast of Florida.

I never considered evacuating at any time in my years down here, but after the storm of 2005, I never stayed again and I always came back within 2 days after the passing to assist those that needed assistance. The aftermath is the hardest to overcome, albeit the duration of a strong, relentless storm is horrifying. May God give you all the peace and comfort and help that all survivors need.🙏

It is not wise to build your lifetime investment on sand..or near water...how insane is that decision... Jesus uses the parable to mean Building on Him..as the rock..but is also applicable on making wise decisions..for buildings... It is inevitable in Florida..and when you continue to reside there after 4-5 storms with great losses...Is that using WISDOM.. Hear people wanting to rebuild on Sanibal Island.. 😱😱😱
Thank you for videotaping this. I live in Canada and have never seen a tropical storm although I have seen the after-effects of them on TV News. You did a great job of moving around the house, videotaping from all angles, starting from before the storm started. I couldn't believe watching people's roofs blow right off the houses! And the way the canal so quickly went over its banks - it's no wonder that tsunamis from the ocean are as huge as they are. It must be an insurance nightmare where you are - everyone waiting for tradespeople to repair roofs, homes, garages, electric teams to get all the posts and lines back up and running. If what the scientists say is true - that climate change is going to make these storms even bigger and more deadly, it's going to be really tragic in the future. I hope your damages weren't too extensive and I hope nobody was hurt.
Its no climate change. The most deadly hurricanes have happened in the early 20th century...No TV, no internet...Don't be so gullible. Not all scientists agree. Just the AlGore types with big salaries.

I am in Jersey and own property (just land) in Cape Coral. I will getting down there as soon as I possibly can. Everyone prays for a speedy recovery so lives can get back to normal. Thank you for the video as the storm was progressing to give us all a sense of what was happening in your area. Our prayers go out to all of you and may God be with you.

Glad your all ok. I’ve been down here since 96 on the east coast .Been through around 7 Hurricanes (lost count) luckily never a cat 5 . These are no joke . Never take these storms for granted . I’ve had enough of them . Time to move
I came across your video today and had to watch. I live in the NW cape and everything you documented was very accurate. Not only were we hit with sustained 150+mph winds and gusts touching near 200mph at times, the storm surge after the winds was a silent deadly force. Great job showing the world a first person's perspective on a hurricane of this size. Hope your rebuilding and all is well. God bless

Wind gusts were recorded by NOAA in my ZIP code of 150+ mph in Cape coral... NOAA recorded overall avg gusts of 160+ ... Sorry I wasn't specific enough initially.
So very sorry about all the destruction Ian caused you, your neighbors and city. You did a really excellent job at documenting and creating this video. Sending prayers to you and all of Cape Coral. Loved & Subbed❤
I'm not. I'm sorry for the people who don't have the money for hurricane proof glass, or adequate housing... they're the ones truly suffering. This person and their neighbors have good money to be able to afford a house like that while there's countless people who can't even afford the most basic house. This is just leveling the playing field tbh

My son and his family lived on SE 47th St in Cape Coral until this past May when they relocated to the east coast. I’m so sorry you had to endure this. We survived Sandy in NJ, but it was the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced.
I’m from Long Island NY….the Jersey shore, Breezy Point in I believe Queens, and Long Island got hit hard by Sandy. The aquarium in the city just reopened this summer after having been closed and renovated because of Sandy. Some places are still destroyed and having been rebuilt

@@thinkforyourselfjohn3167 I have a few cousins that actually lived in Miami Beach up until last month….they’ve been through all the major hurricanes since their parents have lived in the same house for years as well. They ended up moving further inland but a bit up north in the state because, they were tired of wasting money on flood damage and flood insurance since their house was on the water. So they moved last month and the area that they live in now got hit by Ian but….they never got flooded, and never lost power and there was no damage to the house….just small debris from the trees on the ground.

Thank You for sharing your experience with that monster. I was very happy to tell you and your family made it thru without flooding inside your home. Best of wishes to you 🕊🙏🏻
My heart goes out to you all. My family & I live in Callaway FL where Hurricane Michael ripped us a new one in 2018. By the grace of God and wonderful plans put into action by my Army-retired husband, our house survived. When we learned it was going to be a Cat 4, we bailed with our 5th wheel in tow to MS. I'm devastated by the number of ppl who decided to stay for Ian. Truly heartbreaking, as I knew there would be many lives lost. We can replace material things, but human lives are far more important. Glad you're safe.
I remember when hurricane parties were popular, when we first moved to Southwest Louisiana. When hurricane Camille hit the Gulf of Mexico, some people decided to stay and have a hurricane party, right on the beach in an elevated beach house. Unfortunately, Camille cleaned their clocks by killing everyone in that beach house except for a 12-year-old boy who I think survived by clinging up into a palm tree. That hurt my heart. Where we live, that day, it was sunny and clear of any clouds. I had prepared for a storm should it come here, but nothing happened. I still can't get over that. Same type of thing happened with hurricane Katrina. My husband, a pilot who flew choppers for a tad over 48 years, was off with the large helicopter, which had evacuated to Florida, so he was safe, though he was on his 7-day work hitch. The SUV which had been paid off about six months before, got drowned in the flooding, in Boothville. It was my husband's vehicle and was parked in the lot at the base where he flew out of. We took a hit, but it was just a vehicle and others lost everything they had and others, their very lives, so that put things into perspective for us. With Katrina, I was able to see the clouds from the storm, which were moving in a circular path, in the distance. A few weeks later, hurricane Rita hit us here, but the city where we live did all right. The storms seem very much stronger, hitting harder inland these days, though.

What an amazing video and narrative showing Ian as it was actively thundering through your neighborhood and your own home and then, in the aftermath, the incredible damage it inflicted. Luckily I had hurricane shutters. I can only imagine how terrifying Ian was. Thank you for your video. Most deal with the horrible destruction on Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel and Matlacha. You did an excellent job both filming and explaining. I hope relief efforts come soon. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Yall had a hurricane hit Canada too right before this
I live about 3 hours north of where this hit so we just had a generic tropical storm here nothing big but the night before it came through there was a really low (I mean really low clouds < 100' in the air)
That's why it was so bad this windy front that came down from Georgia pushed a lot of water south right into the hurricane that's where the storm surge really came from I live 3 miles from the coast pasco county

This person and their neighbors have good money to be able to afford a house like that while there's countless people who can't even afford the most basic house. This is just leveling the playing field tbh
@@fowchiiiliedpuppiesdied saying she is rich but then talking about a neighbors boat and showing deep concern is baffling. You negative and jealous people need to be placed smack dab in the middle of a hurricane. Maybe it will change your thinking. These people apparently work for everything they own. It isn't their fault we have the homeless. SHAME ON YOU ❌️❌️👎👎
My son and his family lived on SE 47th St in Cape Coral until this past May when they relocated to the east coast.
Indeed, the homes and beaches in NJ were devastated by Sandy. The Perfect Storm.
I'm terrified of 🌀 hurricanes after Andrew I have severe PTSD not joking. I still reside in Florida and wouldn't be able to stay for a hurricane I would have a nervous breakdown if I did lol. Sandy was awful I remember that storm glad your ok. God Bless you.
Our daughter and girls live off SW Santa Barbara.
Thank you for sharing. So glad that you are okay. It will take a while for Florida to bounce back, but it will happen. We have relatives in Venice who sustain some damage to their new home, but much less than many others. We truly enjoy watching your videos as we had a 2021 Teller LT & just traded it in for a Sanctuary. Your straight forward explanations and step by step instructions on how you accomplished your modifications are truly appreciated. Sending you lots of positive vibes, hoping life gets back to norma very soon.
😮 greetings from coastal Mississippi. Thanks for sharing this with us. I survived Hurricane Katrina,as well as, my plantation Twelve Oaks. It has taken the coast nearly 20 years to recover. Stay blessed
Hello Scott, Thanks for sharing. As you know, Hurricanes are very scary and cause significant damage, but we are rebuilding better than before. Thanks for Watching and supporting my channel!
As a kid and even as a adult I LOVE Florida. Hopefully everyone will be treated fairly and will be able to rebuild even stronger homes and infrastructure.
Incredible video! I've visited Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and Sanibel many times and strongly considered moving to that region of Florida a few years ago. It's a shame to see such a beautiful part of the country absolutely destroyed and laid to waste by such a monstrous storm. Great job documenting this and I hope recovery goes well for you!
Not laid to waste... we will be back.
Hello Ethan, I agree that this is a beautiful area and I am truly saddened by the recent events but as James stated below, we will rebuild. Thank you for supporting my channel!
Ruby, so sorry you had to endure this terrible storm, but glad you are safe!
Hello Roger, thank you so much for your concern. We are all ok and have only minimal damage to our home compared to many others that have flooded and were completely destroyed. Thanks for watching.
I don't know how you kept a calm soothing voice during this whole time, but thank you for sharing, and surviving Hurricane Ian. Prayers were already said before IAN made landfall, and more will continue.

What an amazing job you did capturing and narrating the devastation that Hurricane Ian caused.
God=joke

I also have family in Naples. I wish everyone well and hope that the assistance that will be required comes swiftly. It will be very much needed.
What an amazing video and narrative showing Ian as it was actively thundering through your neighborhood and your own home and then, in the aftermath, the incredible damage it inflicted. I can't believe how calmly you relayed each, increasingly dangerous, stage of the hurricane as the risk to your own home and family was undoubtedly rising. You produced the most comprehensive visual account of this hurricane's power and path of destruction that I have seen. I lived in Cape Coral on a freshwater canal near the 4 lakes south of Hancock but moved away in 2005. I went thru Hurricane Charley in 2004 and that was scary enough for me. Luckily I had hurricane shutters. I can only imagine how terrifying Ian was. Thank you for your video. Most deal with the horrible destruction on Ft Myers Beach, Sanibel and Matlacha. I've been wondering how areas of the Cape fared, particularly the area where my old home is located. Take care.
You did an excellent job both filming and explaining. I hope relief efforts come soon. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I have never experienced a hurricane, so this video is much appreciated. What I found most amazing is how thick power line poles just snapping into, but young little trees holding up strong. Just truly amazing.
Ruby, thanks for taking the initiative and risk to capture this video documentary of hurricane Ian. I don't know you personally, but I am happy that you and your family were not injured.
