One of my all time favorites... I remember going to the Bell Auditorium in Augusta Georgia and watching him wrestle...I saw Mr. Wrestling 2 and Tim Woods (Mr. Wrestling 1) take on The Minnesota Wrecking Crew,Ole and Arn Anderson. Looking back now I remember an Auditorium packed with cheering black and white families having a great time. Those were the days...
I am so glad you brought that up. On Saturdays wrestling came on when I was in Augusta ga. Your right black and white loved them both. I love Tim Wood no longer here. They are together now. Rip
@@therealitycheckcheck496 I lived in South Augusta from 1972 1987. Went to Glenn Hills High School. Miss my Spartans!! Oh well, time marches on. At least we have such good memories. Take care and God bless you 🤙🏽
I can’t remember how many knee lifts I gave my brothers and friends growing up. Mr Wrestling II was one of my heroes! Once he left mid south my family didn’t get to watch him much because we lived in the country and cable TV was not available. I have many fond memories of tuning in every Saturday with my brothers and Dad having a bologna sandwich with all the fixings watching Mid South Wrestling!
He was my all time fave wrestler as a young Mid-South fan. I will never forget watching him and Kamala in a steel cage match in Tulsa when the mask turned crimson red. The angle with Magnum TA was an all time great one as well. Dropping those knee lifts....good times.
I met Johnny "The Rubber Man" Walker back in the early 1980's. He was in his prime as Mr. Wrestling 2 and he couldn't have been nicer to me and my two boys! The rival he had with The Masked Superstar Bill Eadie was a Classic between Two Masked Legends! Japan had The Destroyer Dick Beyer....but America had Mr. Wrestling 2 and I do believe we got the better end of that deal! Cheers and Hope To See Everyone At Ringside Soon!
One of my favorites from GCW back in the days. I remember him being my favorite wrestler for a a long time. There were so many back then that were just classic and he was one of them. It's nothing like it used to be anymore.
Mr Wrestling II was the most prominent wrestler in Ga during the 70s and a lot of the 80s. Other wrestlers came and went during that era but he was always consistently there for his fans and friends. He was like the grand daddy of Georgia Wrestling. He was my sons hero. I still have a picture of him and my son together. R.I.P. Sir..
First time I seen him was at our elementary school back in the 70s wrestling the super star, and I got his autograph, ever since Mr. Wrestling II was my favorite wrestler of all time, on a side note, Mr. Wrestling II wife was a expert seamstress and dress maker, she made all Rick Flairs robes, and many of the old country music stars outfits like Porter Wagoner and many others, R.I.P Mr. Wrestling II.
The Assassin and Cowboy Bill Watts were also charismatic speakers. They lured the viewer in. Mainly, the Assassin maintained this calm, well spoken demeanor - kind of like one would imagine an actual professional Hit Man. These wrestlers were on MidSouth, but also on Georgia Championship Wrestling.
In addition to studio shows, I watched him many times at the Macon Coliseum and once or twice in Atlanta at the Omni. He was my all-time favorite. It's true - that gravely voice made his promos some of the greatest.
Thank you for this! My overall favorite wrestling of all time. Captured my imagination and admiration as a young man. I recall his feuds with the Masked Superstar and the Masked Assassin!
Your so right bro. I started watching wrestling II in 1979 in Shreveport LA. He was awesome. Saw him live a few times and JYD! What I really liked was neck roll dance move he would do. He just had a flare about him. Saw a interview and he said he would drive with his mask on because reporters would follow him thinking he would take mask off. Great video my friend...
I live the Shreveport area all my life helped put mid south wrestling rings up for matches mr. Olympia heel turn was a story line wrote by Superstar Bill Dundee has he was promoter and on the writing team for Mid South Wrestling from 1980 to1986
Mr Wrestling II certainly did have that fire when he got mad. Even with his mask on you could in his interviews from his voice and eyes that he was mad as hell and likely turning red underneath. I grew up really wanting to knee lift somebody one day.
Mr. Wrestling II was my favorite wrestler of all time. My interest started in 1975 with Georgia Championship Wrestling on channel 17, WTBS "The Super Station" In 1977 Mr. Wrestling I & II was a popular tag team, funny everyone knew who Mr. Wrestling I was (?Tim Wood?) but Mr. Wrestling II was a national secret. Even when the opponent was able to snatch His mask he was able to cover up his face.
II was my first wrestling hero. I grew up on MidSouth Wrestling, and he was it for me. I was there, about 8 years old, in Lafayette, LA when he left TA to the Midnight Express and Jim "the Wimp" Cornett. And I remember spending weeks thereafter, watching MidSouth, trying to figure out what Magnum had done so wrong that II had to teach him a hard lesson; I simply couldn't wrap my head around II having turned into a bad guy (I certainly didn't know the term "heel" at that time.) Deep down, I thought it was all Jim Cornett's fault ...
II was great because he would fight anyone, Mongolian Stomper, the Andersons, Assassins, anyone. He didn't beat everybody (he would bleed through his mask on occasion) and that made him exciting. II might win the belt or he might get beat if the heel cheated, but it made you cheer for him. He made wrestling look real. And he would go to the Arby's and eat his lunch, with his mask on and a ton of kids watching him.
Wow! What a great video! I grew up watching Georgia Championship Wrestling on WTBS in the 70’s. He was one of my favorites! I rarely saw #1. It was usually #2. His move was the Atomic Knee Drop I think. Every week it was a big deal to see if someone could unmask him. God bless him.
In the 70's and 80's Mr. Wrestling #2 was one of the most popular wrestlers in the Columbus Georgia area. Mr. Fred Ward, local promotor, had #2 in the main event and always the Cols. Auditorium was packed. A complete sell out each time #2 came into town and he was always available for autographs and photos. He was every school boys hero and could do no wrong. We lined up any Wednesday night he was in town wrestling. No other wrestler had that kind of crowd drawing power like Mr. Wrestling Number 2. May he rest in peace.
Great tribute. I would say Mr Wrestling 2 was an outstanding wrestler. Mid South was towards the end of his career. Go back to the 70s Georgia Championship wrestling. He was amazing at applying holds and counter holds along with just his ring awareness and presence. The name fit him perfectly. He was older and not at his best in mid South in the 80s
My first memories of wresting, we went to the Bell Auditorium usually on Monday nights, and I was probably only about four years old, but Wrestler#2 was one of my first crushes and this little four year old black girl wanted to marry him lol! I stayed into wrestling most of my life, and the fact that I am still watching these videos 50 years later tells you that wrestling was one of the true loves of my life!
I grew up in Southwest Georgia and like several other people who have posted watched many of matches in Columbus and Atlanta. Mr. Wrestling no. 2 was one of my favorites. Do any of you guys remember when Tony Atlas was the Black Atlas and wore a mask? Can anyone tell me who it was that de masked him? I met Andre the Giant when he and Wrestling no. 2 were tag team partners. I think they fought the Funk Brothers.
I saw him back around 1963 in Los Angeles ( Olympic Auditorium ) when he wrestled as Johnny " Rubberman " Walker. Double jointed, I guess He would contort his body in weird ways and could squirm out of holds. I never saw him as Mr. Wrestling II, did he use that ability when wrestling under the mask?
