  • With the home show this weekend we just wanted to quickly cover ICF exterior finishes, it's been a common question and I often gloss over it as well as waterproofing options... We now carry Nuduras line of products and they have some of the most innovative waterproofing options available and I touch on them in this video as well.

    We did natural stone on the face of our new house build in southern Iowa. The stone that came out of digging the basement was set aside. We already incorporated a brick ledge in the build and had planned on brick face but so much stone came out of the dig we used it instead. Z ties were heavily used to help hold it on and it looks great.

    Thanks for the informative video.
    Per building science & 40 years experience as a remodeler, you definitely need to shed the water out away & from the foam. Siding lets in moisture & bulk water that WILL go behind the siding & then through the foam, gets absorbed into the concrete & so on till it gets into the interior finishes/ house.
    "moisture goes to dry"
    There are lots of good products out there that help minimize these issues, but they all need to be installed properly.

    Just can not thank you enough for the time and effort you put into these. We are taking a road trip along the Gulf Coast next week and planned to stop on dauphin Island as it was recommended. I'll have a big smile on my face if I recognize your pools! Thank you.

    I think a great video for you to do, or touch on at least, would be Metal Siding. Especially vertical PBR type metal paneling. Due to the spacing of the panels, they do not conveniently line up with the ICF webbing. This type of siding presents a challenge to install, especially when you throw in windows, doors, and penetrations to work around.

    We used Novabrik for the sides and back of the house 23 years ago and my neighbours had to change their siding 1-2 and even 3 times

    Take a look at STPE (Silyl Terminated Polyether) fluid applied barriers as the newest hotness. They are fantastic for spray on barriers, as well thicker types for flashing openings, though one needs to verify with the manufacturer that they are EPS foam safe if they don't explicitly state it. Makes a nice water drainage plane. Nudura (rebranded tremco) uses an "old tech" asphalt based barrier that can crack over time.

    Hi Aaron,
    Your videos are an awesome resource for us as we get closer to building our ICF home. Thank you for all that you do to educate people about ICF! We are definitely going to get a pool kit from you once we finish the house.
    We are building in Southwest Florida. Do you recommend waterproofing the walls before we stucco?
    Have you ever used PreBuck for bucking windows and doors?

      I don’t see a ton of reason behind waterproofing walls above grade but you are in a very wet region…. I have bc a friend doing icf buildings and pools in Naples if you need any assistance I can get you her contact! Never used prebuck, seems good though!

      @@cuttingedgehomes9251Thank you for the reply and the offer to get contact information for your friend in Naples. We will need all the help we can get! We are doing ICF walls and roof with Helix rebar repalcement for much of the reinforcement and MST-BAR fiberglass rebar as much as possible for the remaining rebar requirements. It should be interesting to say the least!
      The Prebuck product is very intriguing to me because of all of the advantages over PT lumber. They also make a pre-shaped parapet cap and a sill plate that can be embedded directly into the concrete.
      Hope we're not getting in over our heads but we are about to find out😊

    For attaching LP siding, when you say Craig screws, do you mean the screws used with Craig jig? (Seems like the head will hold the siding out and allow bugs lots of places to go...)How long do they need to be? What about the trim boards that have exposed fasteners?

    • @cuttingedgehomes9251
      @cuttingedgehomes9251  Рік тому +1

      Ya kreg screws are just for vinyl the pan head won’t work on LP…. There are multiple tapered head options, the web is about half an inch inside the foam, so length should be at least an inch more than the thickness of the siding

    Planning to install 6mm porcelain tile/slabs on the exterior finish? can you just used regular mortar and stick the tiles on the nudura walls like it is usually done on concrete floors? Planning to install that around the garage doors and a border of 2 /12 ft all around the house at the bottom with EIFS on top.

    • @cuttingedgehomes9251
      @cuttingedgehomes9251  Рік тому

      Ya tons of thoughts, we have recently noticed the price of cmu blocks over 10’ are so expensive labor wise it’s literally the same as icf once you factor in insulation and furring, we have been talking to a huge chain of store that typically build free standing in front of big strip centers and bigbox about switching to icf and everyone so far is very excited…. I’m sure all metal is cheaper but block isn’t…. And you get all the structural benifits and thermal efficiencies!
