    Douglas Dutton is a 'genius', for lack of better word! He is the only one who explains with actual visual example! I mean, I, if not other people, have been wondering what the heck 'depth' really means. I see 'something' is changing, but I do not know what exactly is changing.

    This was an excellent walkthrough of Color Slice. I couldn't quite understand how the Set Depth control works but seeing how it affects the 3D Color Cube and your explanation made it crystal clear. So thank you!!

      Thank you Marieta! Yeah it's definily not easy to see what it does when only looking at a couple images !

    Finally someone who _REALLY_ explains in detail what a 'mysterious slider' like SAT.DEPTH is doing. Great ! Subscribed, liked, see you soon again :-)

    How to use the color slicer tool but without artifacts like is shown on 5:50? Is there a way to soften it up or apply some king of effect to avoid the artifacts? That way the tool becomes way more usable without worrying about breaking the image.

    Great Tutorial, it's a tool I haven't used much yet, but I learnt a lot from this episode. Thanks, Doug, for the walk through👍

    The only decent explanation on YT about Saturation Balance and Depth in the Color Slice. Thanks!
    How do you do get the 3D Cube?

    Would u refer the color slice to Dehencer?

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton  5 місяців тому

      I personally don't have Dehancer. But from what I know, it's a film emulation pluggin that slaps a look on your work. If you don't like some characteristics of that look, you're in trouble. Color Slice allows for full customisation of what you're trying to achieve when it comes to sat, density and hue only

      That would be interesting to do! I'm trying to focus on more broad topics to keep it accessible. But once in a while, I like to dive into more advanced topics. I'm adding this one to the list!

    Nice walkthrough mate, although a great tool I still prefer the pixeltools Hue-Shift DCTL, maybe I’m too used to it but it’s great addition from the BM team!

      Thanks a lot! I personally don't use any pixel tools dctls but surely some tools will provide slightly different results.
      Now at the end of the day the built in resolve way will always be more accessible. And I'm really liking this new tool :)

    Thank you, Douglas, for a very informative introduction to the Color Slicer. I’m new to DVR-coming from Final Cut Pro-and I never realized how deep this area is. I know I betray my ignorance by asking but here goes: I work in the same studio, in front of a green screen, for all of my videos. The lighting is the same for all my videos. In this case, can one develop one’s preferred color adjustments and save the node/nodes in my Power Bin for future use (at least for the A-roll portions of my video)? Or, do I need to color adjust for every video? Thank you again for an excellent video. (I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for several weeks and really enjoy your deliberate, cautious presentation style.)😊

      Hi Jay!
      First of all, congratulations for making the plunge from Final Cut to Davinci!
      Now regarding your question: if your setup is consistent when it comes to lighting etc, I'd suggest you grade 1 clip of your setup and when you're happy with the results, save that as a powergrade.
      You can then apply that powergrade to each similar clip in your timeline and future projects!
      Check the manual for the use of powergrades ;)

    Great addition with the cube. Btw, did you use any color management for this project or is it just wysiwyg? because that obviously alters the range the Depth sliders target. I will have to give this tool a try!

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I managed using nodes and tagged my TL CS. From my tests this tool doesn't seem to be colour managed. I'm getting the exact same result regardless of how I tag my working space.

      @@thedouglasdutton that would honestly be a bummer, tools like curves, keys and obviously HDR wheels are and I thought that is the direction BMD is trying to go with all new tools

    I much prefer curves to the slicer, but it is a good tool. I am surprised you are using it over curves, I might revisit the Slicer...each tool definitely has a nice place in Resolve 19!

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton  5 місяців тому

      It's a great tool for density and Saturation specifically. For hue curves can do a similar thing and it all comes down to your preference :)
