    Thank you, Douglas, for a very informative introduction to the Color Slicer. I’m new to DVR-coming from Final Cut Pro-and I never realized how deep this area is. I know I betray my ignorance by asking but here goes: I work in the same studio, in front of a green screen, for all of my videos. The lighting is the same for all my videos. In this case, can one develop one’s preferred color adjustments and save the node/nodes in my Power Bin for future use (at least for the A-roll portions of my video)? Or, do I need to color adjust for every video? Thank you again for an excellent video. (I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for several weeks and really enjoy your deliberate, cautious presentation style.)😊

      @thedouglasdutton День тому

      Hi Jay! First of all, congratulations for making the plunge from Final Cut to Davinci! Now regarding your question: if your setup is consistent when it comes to lighting etc, I'd suggest you grade 1 clip of your setup and when you're happy with the results, save that as a powergrade. You can then apply that powergrade to each similar clip in your timeline and future projects! Check the manual for the use of powergrades ;)

    Would u refer the color slice to Dehencer?

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton День тому

      I personally don't have Dehancer. But from what I know, it's a film emulation pluggin that slaps a look on your work. If you don't like some characteristics of that look, you're in trouble. Color Slice allows for full customisation of what you're trying to achieve when it comes to sat, density and hue only

  • @NOIRGRADE
    @NOIRGRADE 2 дні тому

    Great addition with the cube. Btw, did you use any color management for this project or is it just wysiwyg? because that obviously alters the range the Depth sliders target. I will have to give this tool a try!

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton 2 дні тому

      Yeah I managed using nodes and tagged my TL CS. From my tests this tool doesn't seem to be colour managed. I'm getting the exact same result regardless of how I tag my working space.

    Filmlight does one thing very well about their panels, that blackmagicdesign does not. The form factor. Similarly to the Tangent Element, the panel is designed mainly horizontally. Compare that to the almost square BMD Mini Panel and you get why horizontal makes way more sense. It's way more comfortable and ergonomic.

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton 28 днів тому

      Couldn't agree more. That's why I'm not using my keyboard much when grading in resolve and augment the functions of the mini panel with streamdecks on either sides. Although blackmagic's mini Panel is far more accessible than a slate for example.

    Hey Doug! I think it's not very practical to teach beginners that ACES is a 'look' despite being partially true. There is a much bigger picture to both ACES as a workflow, and DRTs as a means to get an image to display. Both of these are now severely ignored in understanding why you need such tools and get labelled as something you just pick because it looks nice. While there are tehnical differences, the look is never supposed to soley come from a DRT. Rather the ideal DRT is one that can make any look possible while grading underneath.

    • @thedouglasdutton
      @thedouglasdutton Місяць тому

      Hey bro! Hoping you're doing well :) I think your point is totally valid and I recognise that I took shortcuts in my explanation. My intent wasn't to talk about the Aces colour management framework here but only the characteristic look that its DRT has. Having said that, I know that some people will pick a specific DRT to grade underneath depending on how close of a starting point from the look they're trying to achieve it provides. It all comes down to personal preference imo.
