This is a great kit with high quality items.
This kit has its historical origins of the British SAS in WW2. It was carried in a dedicated pouch on their belt order. The mess kit pan was their emergency cooking and water boiling. There was a Wilkinson Sword DoD survival knife, an Air Force survival ration, an emergency First Aid Kit, a shelter item plus ammunition. // The E&E tin was carried in the shirt pocket.
Yes this High End kit is incomplete - BECAUSE you must add in your own items related to YOUR area of operations. The same applies to all fighter pilot kits, the Pilot may add in a few items that he determines necessary after spending weeks in desert / arctic / temperate / sea climate survival courses. The cordage can be wrapped around the outside to secure a shelter sheet to the mess tin kit.. Make a 1.5m lanyard / bandoleer and attach the Victorinox, whistle, signal mirror, compass, ferrocerium rod, etc: so when you open the kit for real, you fist attach these tools to your body.
Missing Items. 1. Candle - prime the wick. 2. A complex First Aid kit (once you have completed your First Aid Training. 3. Fire Tinder - eg 'wet Fire' and Magnesium block. 4. Herds & spices you like for your wild edibles & games. 5. Food items Salt, glucose, beef bullion cubes - sachets,

A Sol Mylar Blanket is must with a mini water straw..Condense the Fishing kit to make room..Also add some small first aid add ons
(Anti Diarrhea) Benegryl, Advil, Bandaids etc..
I would Also add 2 coffee singles with 2 sugar packetzs..
The coolest thing about that kit, like you mentioned, is the extra room they give you. I would throw in a BIC, some first aid items, a life straw, a contractor bag if you can make it fit and some eye hooks in that fishing kit to make a pole. That's a high quality kit. Haven't looked at the price yet, though.
Pretty comprehensive with high quality items. Would add an emergency blanket, mini flashlight, and a roll of gauze.

Puma... rattler, python, cobra. 3 knife series. Cool small knives for mini survival kits.
I like what is included in that kit and it all will come in handy when out in the wilderness. That small knife is one of the most useful items in the kit and can be used to cut line or in an emergency be used to cut anyone trying to attack you.
I would add a mosquito / deet bug spray, space blanket, garbage bag.

This is pretty decent kit! Lots of excellent tools and the price isn't crazy. Depending on your location and where you bought your supplies, you might save a few bucks by putting it together yourself, but overall, I think it's a pretty decent value and it doesn't have a bunch of junk that a lot of kits have. If you didn't already have some of the gear, it would cost about $150 or so to build this kit buying all the individual items, so not bad at all. I might pick one up to augment a secondary bag or keep in the vehicle!

I really want to get my hands on one of those kits . For review but I’m still rebuilding my channel from after my spine injury last year. That’s why I’ve been doing a lot of bushcraft building videos. Because my gear is very low

I own a bunch of Esse knives! Great stuff! Lash the Kandaru to a pole and you have a great spear! Cover the handle in para chord as well!

Looks like a great kit! I'm making one myself using a steel Dutch mess tin. I'm surprised they didn't include a bandanna, emergency blanket, or cordage. Thanks for the review... I'm onto pt 2!
I'm gonna turn you on to a little trick that will save your life.
I'm going to recommend an item to put in your BOB that will work and get your dinner for you while you are back at camp.
Go to any hardware store and buy a good old fashioned Rat trap ( It's just an oversized mouse trap ).
Pack a few packets of peanut butter from MRE packages, get yourself a Screw on "S" or Eyelet hook and then use wire to fasten it to a tree.
Set it use the peanut butter for bait and leave it about 50' or so away from the camp and trust me, You will nail a couple of squirrels and sometimes a small rabbit.
It's small and it works by itself and frees you up to do other things and works 1,000 times better than any dead fall traps .
Hope you never need it but if you do, One thing you won't do is starve to death .

@@ba00173 As I understand it, paint odor is due to the incorporated solvent which after application will air out. Sniff the painted surfaces in your house. Do you smell anything?

I would definitely add a first aid component to the kit. Some basic meds, bandaids, alcohol prep pads, antibiotic ointment, burn jel, just some simple items like that.
I bought the empty Esee tin and their pouch made special for it. The pouch is a little oversized so you can add some blankets or a garbage bag.

So I used your link to 5Col and checked out the price of the Kit. Be a little tough to replicate it buying individual components. Throw in Shipping and Sales Taxes, plus the Wait Time, and I really don't think you'd save that much. Just stuff a SOL blanket on Top, throw it in your Day Pack with a Good Topo Map of your area, you should be able to handle a Woods Emergency for a few days (as long as you're not Sick or Injured). Good Kit that you hope you never need. Thanks.

The striker on the ferro rod is only worth throwing away. The rest of the kit is top shelf.

Victorinox hiker is the most useful sak in my opinion.. the saw and philips screwdriver are such handy additions and were probably the most used bits on mine..... til i lost it :D

I'm glad you explained about the absence of the lighter (eventually!). It might be helpful to explain the omissions up front, with reasons, for a better understanding of the big picture.
Personally, I would regard the inclusion of a lighter as one of the top 5 most important items for such a kit!
Otherwise a superior kit.
How important would you rate the inclusion of a space blanket?

A good kit and quality components but waaaayyyyy to expensive. I actually built a version of this with the same items, minus the ESEE specific items for a fraction.of the price. Here in the UK they are asking 200 pounds for this kit.

No intro ! Have to admit I'm kinda bummed about it, Those NDUR fire steels are a good product. If you can maybe add a emergency space blanket to the kit (Shelter option/rain collection).. That tin is set up with the handle to double as a mess tin you can boil water in it as well. Bought a similar emergency fishing kit from Blackscout Survival, and I added a Derma razor to that fishing kit and swapped out that monofilament line for some braided line (Sider Wire), add a red photon light to it. I took away the larger hooks and compensated with smaller hooks, small hooks are better IMO. You can't catch small fish on big hooks, but you can catch larger fish on small hooks.. Nice kit and I agree with the big lighters to add along with a few long strong steel fishing leaders set up sir snares instead of the brass wire it worse better in traps for survival as it is more flexible for a more humane kill of small game animals. The neck knife is very good and holds an edge very nicely and is good for small bush craft things like small feather sticks and small carving like small spoons,ECT. Let us know how it works please want to make something simular. Also I would add to space blankets one silver or gold and the other one in Orange and silver for emergency.
I made my own using the Esee tin..I like the tin, very useful,.The one thing I def added was a mini water filter straw and a SOL bivy blanket...I keep my swiss champ and leatherman squirt in there.. But I keep my Esee Izula outside the kit to make room for my additions..

If you don't like this kit or any other kit you don't have to buy it. But you can get ideas from these kits and build your own. All the kits are basically the same. They all have the same basic items. It's the few special items that make then different. It all depends on your skills as well. The less experienced you are the more you need. Some people can survive on just about nothing while others need a backpack full of items. The only major thing to remember is that many items in kits are perishable so they need to be inspected regularly. It's like never getting a flat tire but one day you do. You go get the spare from the trunk and find it's flat.
Definitely worth the money. Only real issue I've got with it is the lack of a shelter component.
The most important item these kits hardly ever contain is BUG REPELLENT. The mosquitoes will drive you crazy, so much so that you will forget how to use all the rest of this stuff. Have these people ever walked in the woods during the summer months?
Amy Peterson 😀 John Randall, the owner of Esee knives, teaches classes in the South American jungles every year, not to mention all the navigation/ survival classes in Alabama. I think they know about mosquitoes.
A good repellent is a good fire. But if your that concerned, you can add it in there, though I would suggest a net for your head instead. It won’t run out.

This kit has given me some excellent ideas. The best being that the contents fits into a mess kit. Sheer brilliance! I have not seen this done before.
Wynand Koegelenberg -- I did the same thing with a same sized mess kit box over 40 years ago , but my mess kit box was Stainless Steel . Recommend the Aluminum box , much lighter just not quite as durable .
This is old school bread and butter survival as propagated by ex-SAS survival instructor Lofty Wiseman back in the 80s, also it's in the SAS survival handbook as a recommended container for larger survival kits, held in a belt pouch. The smaller first line survival kit, carried in the pocket, is contained in a tobacco tin.

Some nice looking stuff but what is it for?? This is fantasy survival. Real survival means staying alive for up to a week while you wait for help (which will only arrive if you've left instructions for when you don't return, or if you have a reliable way of calling for help), or self rescuing which would involve moving maybe many miles to find help. Making natural shelters and fires uses a lot of energy and you may be injured too. You can't expect to find enough wild food to replace that energy. What you really need is a sat phone or beacon, a lightweight basic camping kit for instant shelter and warmth, a proper medical kit which can cope with serious bleeding wounds that might kill you fast, high energy food and several bottles of water. Yes, all that will weigh a lot more than this kit, but a real 'survival' situation isn't solved by boiling water and throwing a fish hook into a stream.
Best Survival Kit is - Proper Training and YOUR BRAIN !

I would have picked the GAK Victorinox over the Camper or Tinkerer, also I will add a small portable sac for gathering things in it, and thicker waterskin, either way I will always try got get my self a 1L canteen with me anytime I go on a hike,
Nay. If I could only take one knife I might select the german army knife (Aka the trekker) over the ESSE knife and the hiker. But those make a nice combo IMO.

Invite a bunch of guys over, set a metal box full of survival items with a knife near the top in the middle of the table, have the guys come in one at a time and peer inside, and see what each guy removes from the box first. 9 times out of 10, I bet it's the knife. ;-) About the contents of that ESEE Kit. Nice kit, but I kept looking for a shelter item, first on the list in any of my SWFF (Shelter, Water, Fire and Food) kits. These can be put together from household items and weigh a pound or less. Large garbage bag (Shelter), a couple quart ziplock bags and Potable Aqua tabs (Water), a full Bic-type lighter (Fire), and a couple power bars (Food). Carry a knife in your pocket. Eezy peezy. And out here in semi-arid country, a fishing kit is basically useless. I guess you could use a hook to catch a bird (bait the hook and let a bird swallow the bait).
Surprised there wasn't some type of shelter i.e. Mylar blanket, contractor trash bag. Etc

Can someone please explain to me the scenario where this kit will be used? For example, is this supposed to be for my car? Do I keep this in my home in case of an earthquake? Did I fall into a ditch and but have this carried in my backpack?
Carry it in a belt pouch. It's the 2nd line as per the military 3 lines principle i.e 1st line pocket, 2nd line on belt, 3rd line in your bergen (rucksack).

It's overall a good kit but I'm baffled to see a kit that large omit a space blanket. Honestly I'd ditch the fishing kit and use the space for a mylar blanket. Shelter is going to be an issue much faster than food. Still I like the kit but that's a serious shortcoming.
