  • Why is it called a possibles pouch?
In the 18th and 19th centuries, mountain men, minutemen, frontiersmen, and black powder hunters of all kinds would usually be found with two bags slung across their shoulders: their powder horn and their “possibles bag.” It was so-named either because it contained everything you might possibly need for the day.

I refer to my packs like that to be personal survival kits. I have one in both my vehicles and made them for my daughter and son. If I had to leave my truck or suv I will take it with me or add to get home or bug out bag. I have a folder knife, flash light, extra batteries for it and my edc light, some wet one single wipes, lighter, small amount of first aid mainly bandaids and packets of antibiotic ointment, pen and pad for writing things down, and sharpie marker. Nice kit, thanks for sharing stay safe

You can add a RipSpool with some small fishhooks inside.... it adds both repair, as well as fishing capabilities. I always add some fishhooks inside the compartment, and then add a few more yards of fishing line where the line is wrapped, in turn wrapped in some extra duct tape

Great video. I would add a small razor blade and something like a space blanket to cover some additional possibilities. Still a good edc for pocket potential.

I have near the same pouch from Maxpedition. I've traveled the world for at least 15 years with it. Still looks new. I carry a card with some duct tape. A sewing kit I kept from a hotel. Shoelaces doubles as cordage. 1/8" fero rod. Nail clippers. Get Victorinox clippers they are fantastic. Tweezers.

Just an idea, add an emergency poncho. One of those 99 cent ponchos from Walmart or a mylar poncho off of Amazon. Quick light weight, emergency shelter option.
Your possibles pouch reminds me of my attempt at an Altoids kit. I ended up rubber banding a mylar poncho to the outside of my already slightly oversized tin, and then I found a pouch that I had lying around that fit the combo perfectly and has a tiny carabineer to give the option of adding to a pack or belt loop if no pocket is available for it.

Great kit! Whenever I have whirl pak bags in a kit I always make sure to have a few aqua tabs just in case I'm unable to boil water

That's a Maxpedition Fatty - quite possibly the BEST and most versatile organizer they offer. The Beefy is HUGE, and you'd defintely know the difference. It's the size of a travel toiletry kit. Great video.

Nice setup small & simple. Summer is here, I like to add those bug repellent wipes in my kits because I’ve been chewed up to many times from those little buggers. 🔥🇨🇦

I have a very similar kit that I also put into a Maxpedition Fatty. In addition, I have a Suunto compass, a Rite in the Rain notebook & pencil, some AAA batteries for the flashlight, a Swiss Army Hiker, and some cash. I carry this on a riggers belt along with my IFAK and my fixed blade knife.
Also, that Buck sharpener is still available and it's called a EdgeTek.

So you have a LOT of redundancy in the fire portion of this kit -- ferro rod, bic lighter, exotac lighter, matches, magnifying lens, tinder discs, and duct tape as tinder. I would move almost all of that out of this kit - and keep two ignition sources and one tinder. I would keep the bic lighter wrapped in duct tape, and the matches. Everything else can go somewhere else.
Some kind of SAK or multi tool might be helpful. Some 8" zip ties are really helpful for quick crafting and shelter building. A compass would be helpful. You have a notebook to keep records for self-mapping.
Some FAK items would be helpful. I keep a small pill bottle with NSAIDS, anti-histamines, anti-diarrheals, something with caffeine, and whatever else you might need to have on hand. Make sure you have bandaids or leuko tape to deal with blisters. Bug spray and sun screen can benefit from reapplication while you are away from your main camp.
I would add a Sawyer Mini or some other kind of water filter. Being able to drink immediately is handier than it first seems.
I would add a couple quart & gallon zip top freezer bags. Plastic bags are always helpful.
I would also add a couple granola bars or candy bars, and some electrolights.

hum my first thought wax where is your multitool like Leatherman or other preferred brand. Maybe couple of Band-Aids, tweezers, compass, magnet, I prefer head lamp to torch (then my hands are free), collapsible cup to drink(they really make them small now), but otherwise man this is an awesome and outstanding survival pouch, well done!

Your videos have inspired me and always turned out to be great advice! You are one of about 6 YTers that have given me invaluable guidance in getting started in this field of endeavor we call Bushcraft which I got started in as a Boy Scout several decades ago! My goal is to start doing my own videos of me doing many overnighters with one or more of my Labs. I am also a Certified Executive Chef by trade and as such would LOVE to incorporate my love of all things food into said videos. Thank you for the constant inspiration!

Great video and gloves are a good thing to have because if we damage or hurt our hands we can't do this or that like sawing or cutting wood or other things and the other lighter cases made by Exo Tech are great for waterproofing your lighter

1:23 I’ve frankly never understood the exclusive “fire kit” in the 21st Century. For living history? Sure. But today? Oodles of videos. Earnest fellows stuffing Maxpedition pouches 2-4 inches thick with every fire or spark apparatus invented since 1750. Maybe I’m the bumpkin but it seems like if you can’t get a fire going with a Bic, a ferro rod and in extremely wet weather maybe a vaseline impregnated cotton ball, maybe you shouldn’t be in the woods? Here’s where it gets silly. Through recent years when I suggest the above combustion trinity, when I get to the petroleum jelly cotton balls guys say “I dunno about carrying that.” Meanwhile they’ve got their bearing block stuffed in the ol’ Maxpedition and are rolling up their 11 pound gum blanket 😂😂😂

Nice kit man, well thought out and put together. I personally would add a space blanket or small poncho for shelter, sak or other multitool with a saw, maybe some drink mix (electrolyte or other preference) or instant coffee packets, and some first aid items.
