Pro tip: pack a bag inside to keep all the contents in when you are using your tin to cook.

Good content. One thing, I've seen a pile of these kit reviews. I've never seen anyone address the fishing kits thoroughly. I caught two birds and almost a squirrel by baiting a hook and tying it to a low hanging tree limb. (It's not just for fishing anymore!) The squirrel broke the mono line, so if I do it again I'll use the wire and a hook for another tree rat. So much easier and more effective than trying to make a bunch of shitty snare sets from a tiny bit of wire (maybe 2% effective?). Hope this is helpful.

Nice! And finaly quality with Best Glide and Esee, you should try the Solkoa pro kit next!

Decent kit. I would include a small piece of orange 550 for possible fishing bait. You can use a 16 oz water bottle for a fishing reel. Agree with your additions to kit. 👍

An excellent off the shelf option. I think the Best Glide Adventurer is a better buy, but this has a better tin, compass and knives ($100+ MSRP between the two, thus the price difference). The fishing kit not being comprehensive isn't as big a deal to me- I believe for commercial kits the biggest use for that tackle is to keep you near water where SAR can find you easier.

Awesome video as always! It is a well thought out kit for size and space constraints. I wouldn't use it as a stand alone, but would be a great addition to a lightweight go bag or get home bag.

I love your reviews. I found out if you make a small hole on the sides of the lid and take some of the wire and a y stick you will have a frying pan. If i had that kit, I would add a small roll of electric tape to keep the water proof ability.
Most don't understand that the mess kit is part of the survival tins. Everyone makes one kit in one tin and it wont help much . If you want me to explain let me know.
Beyond that keep up the videos and takes for serving.

Nice review, Thanks. As you said, it is a good kit for somone who doesn't have expericence.
Nothing replaces experience in these skills. I fish a lot. And have made a hobo fishing reel out if a plastic spice bottle and have uses it. Simple camping, hiking and fire building can quickly build skills and educate one on what equipnent is necessary. 16:47

You said once that your not the kitbashed channel. But I like that you said what you would add. On that Chanel he even says multiple times everyone would add or change different things. I like that you suggested what you would add and thought because like he said everyone had different ideas. Nice hip pocket class!! Semper Marine!

Nice review. Overall I think it's a pretty solid kit. As you say, I think it's missing the mark to include two knives and no cover/shelter element and they could go heavier on fire. In many if not most situations if you can stay dry and build a fire you're good for a day or two. You have to have water and that's covered pretty well. Food is unimportant for at least a couple of weeks so the fishing kit is, in my opinion, mostly dead weight. I don't think the lack of waterproofing is a big deal. Most of the stuff in the kit will work fine if it gets wet and the stuff that has to stay dry (like the matches) are packed in their own waterproof sub-packaging.
I think the price is decent for what you get. However you could save some money without compromising the kit. The Candiru is a very high quality blade but personally I'd rather have a Mora especially since you could buy three or four of them for the cost of the ESEE. Size isn't everything but it's a PITA to use a knife that tiny.

While the Best Glide has the more complete kit, Esee has the better storage container, that can be made waterproof by putting it in a small wastebasket trash bag or a plastic supermarket bag. Even though the Esee has gear handpicked based on their survival expertise, the Best Glide offers the better value. And Suunto is a Finland company. Thanks for sharing you, Mighty Awesome Devil Dog. BATTALION!!!

15:14. Totally agree. For the size of the kit and $200 you’d think they’d toss in some sort of shelter and light. Definitely lacking.

im not 100% but I believe nowadays they come in a pouch of olive or orange and they pack in a large ndor survival blanket along with the large tin shown here.. that's what ive been seeing in the pictures of the current models. I believe because of that plus inflation they did raise the msrp but I can see a few places have om on sale under $200 still.. got my eye on one on sale for $180... really thinking about just going for it

your video has a ASMR effect on me, your voice is pleasant which can give tingles but also when you shove items into the cameras face, showing your viewer personal attention is a visual ASMR trigger. if you look up ASMR videos you will see similarities between there videos and yours, might be something u may want to educate yourself on a little as i doubt i will be the only one you attract.

I've seen a review on this on another channel. Does the SAK have a saw on it? if not i might ass a length of a hacksaw blader...might work better than the one given. there's a suplus ammo pouch that fits the kit perfectly. adding some paracord to keep it sealed along with the Ranger band might be a valid option as well...

    • @MarineX
      @MarineX  2 роки тому

None of these kits that are packed into utilitarian containers ever give you a place to put all the stuff when you’re using the container! Pockets I guess (and the fact that 99.99% will never be used in an emergency. )

  • @felixcat9318

The Esee Mess Tin is a really good compromise between the size for storing contents, the size for boiling and cooking and the size for carrying!
The 800ml & 1000ml Trangia Mess Tins are excellent to construct a survival/emergency kit in and as with the Esee and Polymath Products tins, Helikon-Tex and Maxpedition pouches accommodate them very well and with space for additional items.
The Polymath Products mess tin and survival kit are also well worth considering.
People can very easily research what constitutes good quality components for a kit and construct their own, they then benefit from the familiarity of the kit contents, the excellent quality of each type of item included, and the satisfaction from making a kit that they can truly rely on, and have paid forward their wellbeing in a real emergency by their investment!
The objective isn't to save money, but to build the very best quality kit that meets their needs.
A compact, lightweight saw like the Silky F180 is an order of magnitude better than a wire saw and will process wood faster, more efficiently and using fewer calories than virtually every other personal survival kit saw.
A few Military Speedhooks in addition to a compact fishing kit may be set in different areas or used as land based traps that don't require attendance, allowing you to carry out other activities.
A SOL Survival Poncho (or equivalent, or a SOL 1/2 Person Heat Sheets Space Blanket, or a tarp) may be used with a candle to create a Palmer Furnace, which is a proven lifesaver, and only requires a small candle (but has been used with hot coals, very carefully, obviously!).
Taking a professional approach to ones survival/emergency kit can make the difference between living or not, consequently, it merits serious consideration!
During a real, traumatic emergency is not the time to wish that you'd taken your survival kit more seriously and invested in good quality, proven contents rather than dollar store ones...
