    Thanks. I like these videos because, even if our bikes have different parts and methods, this shows that there are many simple things that we *can* do and don’t need to pay sky-high shop labor costs. Thanks again.

      Thank you for that kind comment, Marco! You are so right...plus it gives a good feeling of satisfaction to do the work yourself. :-)

    Hi Chris! I second what Marco said, I love videos like this. Even though I’ve done many of these things before, I always take a simple “refresher course” when I do them again. Thanks for putting these out!

    I just purchased a used cb500x 2017 model. Awesome peice of equipment. I previously saw your 16T video and want to also do that as i need 1st gear to be a bit more useful and I also travel 150km per day on the highway so the extra mileage will be nice with fuel prices today.
    Love your vids. I want to be able to do everything on my motorbike alone. Thanks for your vids they are super straight to the point. Please keep it up!

      Hi C Dee! You are so welcome!!! Thank yo for watching, and for your kind comments. You're right, the CB500X is an excellent choice. I hope you get as many years of enjoyment out of yours as I have mine. Yesterday we recorded a video I think you're going to like. It's another fun tutorial, but with a guest appearance from a young man who rides a CB500X as his ONLY means of transportation. If you haven't already, hit the Subscribe and Notification Bell...should be out in a couple weeks! :-)

    I enjoy your videos Chris. You have to be one of the most cheerful UA-cam contributors out there. I'm just re-watching your servicing and upgrade vids for the CB500X because I recently bought one. You don't appear to have covered changing out the spark plugs yet, so I hope to see how you tackle that in the not too distant. Take care and ride safe.

      Hi Len! Thank you so much for the kind compliment, my friend. :-) You are going to LOVE the CB500X! It's a great bike, super economical to own, and super fun to ride!!! You are correct, I haven't done the park plugs yet. But I'm going on 55,000 miles on my bike and she's never coughed or sputtered once. So don't worry, it'll be a while before you need to change yours. Hopefully I'll have a video out for you by then...HAHA!

    gday mate this is one of the first things i did with my 2015 model did a cost comparison and worked out after 4 genuine filters the k&n had paid for itself and will last the life of the bike ,ok you will have to buy more recharge kits but that is all and better protection for your engine .

    • @MotoPhotoAdventures
      @MotoPhotoAdventures  Рік тому

      Gday to you too, sir! I came to a similar cost calculation. Totally agree, it's the way to go!

    21 CB500X Stock Air filter
    Factory tight screw put in way to tight.
    That was way harder than it
    should of been.
    Wiring getting in the way. When trying to pull out filter.
    Could be abs related
    Took an hour.
    The lower screw, shifter side a pain to get at.
    Lower screw brake side, take the side panel off and go in that way. With a right angle screw driver.
    I ended up taking off the 4 bolts that hold the tank in place just so I could lift up that little bit more to full the filter out. That took 5 minutes trying to get filter out.
    But I persevered.
    On the plus side, oil and filter was
    a breeze

      @MotoPhotoAdventures  Рік тому

      WOW!!! Great job! Perseverance paid off! And I totally agree, it's a pain to get to those screws. Having a "stubbie" screwdriver helps. And also having the correct screwdriver tip helps. The screws look like they take a Philips screwdriver would work...and the do to a degree. But actually those are JIS heads, which is a Japanese standard that is slightly different. So having an actual JIS screwdriver gives a little more "bite" when trying to loosen them. Anyway, great job and thanks for watching! - Chris

    Good video and good filters but not sure its much better for the environment if you consider the products used to lube and clean it, not to mention many will probably just rinse them in a ditch or down the drain...
    On a side note, I wish the filter was as accessible on the Africa Twin.

    • @MotoPhotoAdventures

      Thanks for watching and sharing your comment, Speedytrip! I meant to mention the importance of disposing of your chemicals properly, but forgot. Doing a project while recording it ads a lot of extra complexity and it just slipped my mind in the end! We just recorded another series about oil and I made sure to mention it then. Motorcycles are fun...but it's important to take care of the planet or we won't have anywhere to ride! ;-) My friend Steve has an AT. He LOVES his!!! I'll have to ask him if he's done his air filter yet.

    Chris, thanks so much for putting your videos together. They are really well done and I have really benefited from them. From the DIY maintenance, to your treks in the TAT. If you ever get out to Oregon, you have a friend. Happy New Year! Also, what type of seat cover are you using? Looks great!

      That's very kind of you, Noel! I truly appreciate that...and I would happily repay your kind offer with a place place in Charleston if you're ever on the east coast. I'm on Bunk-a-Biker, if you're familiar with the group. By the way, my brother and his wife lived in Bend, OR for many years. They moved to Georgia after he retired a couple years ago. But one of their sons is still in Bend. I photographed his wedding there last year: chrisandcami.com/hannah-tylers-oregon-wedding/. Oregon is a beautiful state that I wouldn't mind exploring more!!!

    I use K&N filters bike and 4x4 on the 4x4 have found the paper filters not better but more convenient to clean from dust in out back Australia Day by day haven’t done enough on the GS yet for weeks on end ether way the bike would be a bitch to do often! Good 👍 video mate

      Thanks for watching, and for the compliment, Wayne! Luckily, unless you ride in really dusty conditions, you don't have to change your air filter very often. :-)

    Hi Chris, I just swapped my filter to KN on a 2021 model. Thanks for the tutorial. I do think there is a slight better roll on response with the KN, like a tad more urgency to redline. Now how often should you clean when driving 95% road only?

    • @MotoPhotoAdventures
      @MotoPhotoAdventures  Рік тому +2

      Hi Arizona! I'm glad we could help. I too think there are minor performance gains. Though really I just like that it's re-usable and not another hunk of plastic being tossed out into our planet each time you change filter (like with the OEM). If you mostly ride street, you won't have to clean it that often. Just follow the owner's manual. I ride a lot of dirt...so I do it more often than some!

  • @robin_hornychwanderer9583
    @robin_hornychwanderer9583 2 роки тому +2

    The price of the filter is negligible. The cleaning quality is low. It's stupid to deal with a filter 1x 24000km.

      Hi Chris David again thanks for your reply there is another listing for the 19-21 500x the number is HA-5019 K&N filter.

      @@davidread319 ahhh yes, they did indeed change a few things between the 13-18 models and the 19-21 models. I mistakenly assumed you had a 2013 like me. Definitely go with whatever the K&N recommendation is! Cheers!!! P.S. We loved our trip "down under" several years ago. You live in a beautiful country, my friend!

      Hi Again Chris just a quick question how did you go with the sixteen tooth front sprocket is it worth the trouble if it throws the speedo out.

    • @MotoPhotoAdventures
      @MotoPhotoAdventures  2 роки тому

      @@davidread319 I've been loving the 16T front sprocket! I've probably put over 25k miles on the bike since that upgrade and I don't ever see myself going back unless I only used it for dirt riding. If you watch our adventures, I did the Trans-America Trail and the South Carolina Adventure Route (both are 50% dirt trails) and kept the 16T the whole way no problem. But the REAL advantage is how much smoother it and better spaced out the gearing is on the pavement. I have a Garmin Zumo which tells me my exact speed...so I never look at my speedometer anyway. But if an accurate speedometer is important to you, there's a simple electronic device you can plug in to calibrate your speedometer after you do the upgrade. Two companies make them. I've put links to both suppliers in the description of the 16T sprocket video. Enjoy!
