Excellent video and info. It was a big help changing out the front and rear pads on my 2015 CB500XA. I ended up removing both calipers in order to properly clean everything and put those frustrating retainer clips back in. The rear caliper piston wouldn't stay retracted. Bled off a tablespoon of fluid and it relieved the pressure. The new front pads were slightly rubbing the worn rotor. After about 40 miles riding on the new pads they stopped rubbing and work great. I skim coated the back of the pads with white lithium and torqued the caliper bolts to 16# and the pad pins to 13#'s. EBC pads are very recognizable btw. Thanks!

Hi Marco! I completely agree. Humans are programed to fear the unknown. Hopefully this video helps put them at ease.
A light coat of grease on the back plate of the pads can reduce chatter. Also, while you are there with the torque wrench, it's a good time to check the other brake and wheel fasteners.

Got to agree with the EBC pads, had them changed on my 2023 CB500X with only 600 miles on the clock and the difference is like night and day

I always wear glasses so at first I didn't think about eye protection for you when spraying brake cleaner, but watching you work on the rear caliper, your face was right there watching you piston get clean.

Hi AB!!! I don't have rim locks. The CB500X uses tubeless tires and I keep a fairly healthy amount of air in there. Jason and I shoot and edit most of the "How To" videos since we live near each other. Steve was sick during our Sunburn Circuit trip (for which Episode 2 should come out this weekend). But he'll be back with us on the Virginia trip to Horizons Unlimited!

You can do this with your aftermarket exhaust, but the original Honda exhaust is in the way so you either have to remove the wheel or the exhaust to replace the rear brake pads.
Oh wow! That's another good reason for replacing your exhaust!!!
@@MotoPhotoAdventureslet me correct myself, I was able to do the job with the smallest rachet tool and low profile sockets (with a 🔧 to hold the nut on the opposite side). It barely fit in there but following your guide the job was quick and easy (15 min) on my 21 model so thank you for taking the time to upload the video.
Two practical notes: it's best to take a few moments to figure out exactly where to place the brake pads, and to fit the left pad the calipers can be pushed inwards, the whole assembly is able to move horizontally enough to create a bit more space.

What is the rack you are using? I'm having trouble finding one I like for a 2023

What is meant by a Homda parts store? Would that be a Honda dealership? Or is there a cheaper more direct option?

A lot of folks do it that way. But I find this "shortcut" saves time. :-)
11:25 to 11:35. btw.I'm not sure about older models..but 2019...that ISN'T an 8 mm although it may feel like to some extent. It's really a 7.5mm. or 5/16 ..TRUST ME...I began rounding it alittle with a 8mm wrench and a 7mm is too small. Sincerely...get a close look when you put an 8mm socket or wrench on that slider pin/bolt and just gently begin turning it slowly and watching the tiny gaps..you'll see

why not use brake and caliper grease instead of the waterproof grease?

11:44 to 12:54. also on the STOCK 2019...the muffler is way too in the way to allow you to pull the brake caliper mounting pin/bolt that he pulled out. Unless there is some trick I have yet to see or figure out...You'll have to loosen or completely remove the stock muffler from the cb500x 2019 model to get physical ENOUGH distance room to be able to pull out that rear -est rear brake caliper mounting bolt ( 12mm). front one is 13mm btw
I could be wrong, but I don't think this guy's cb500'x muffler is stock.
You are a wealth of knowledge, and gifted with a keen eye, my friend! You are correct. I definitely have an after-market exhaust. So definitely take this video as a guide, and adjust accordingly for your bike. Remember, my CB500X is a 2013 model. There were also a number of changes made to the CB500X in the 2019-present models. I ran into a problem though anyone knowing how to solve it...please chime in
*** update around late summer ** = I figured it out. had too much air in rear brake lines.
After cleaning and lubing my front dual piston and rear single piston of my brakes on my bike...I have no rear brake and my front brake is honestly half ass at best.
I also made sure.,there times to push the Pistons all the way into the caliper with the front and rear brake reservoirs' caps off and immediately ensuring they were around 85 percent full.
I applied each brake...held it in place WHILE puting the Rez back on...then kept pumping the brakes.
What did I do wrong?
Also ensured rear brake 's slider pin aka bolt was well lubricated with anti seize compound.
@@motoryzen ABSOLUTELY...no offense taken...we welcome all helpful corrections, tips and advice! As far as your brakes, my guess is you've got some kind of lubricant or cleaning compound on your brake pads or the brake rotor. It sounds to me like you followed proper procedure...so I doubt you have air in your brake lines or anything like that. I would heavily spray down the area with brake cleaner and aggressively wipe down the brake rotor to get back that "bite" in your braking. If anyone else has any ideas, please help a fellow rider out.
@@MotoPhotoAdventures lol. I confirmed vis a mechanic friend I did have a good bit.pf air in my brake lines...more prevalent in the rear. (Looks in mirror...facepalms).
I could have sworn months ago I bled them out properly.
All is well now. I rebled them and now I can get back to Motojitsu and RideLikeAPro drills.

Yes...just a cheap cover to give air-flow, a little cushion, and water run-off: www.ebay.com/itm/133324486744. Doesn't fit perfect until you leave it to "form" itself to the seat for a while. Works pretty good!

Your brake fluid was not low, well above the "low" line. If it was low you would want to find out where it went. More important is the color. If it is any darker than yours, it's time for a change. The "crazies" change it every two years, weather it needs it or not.

Mine i use to take the break Piston out and clean it out cos there's a rust on it. Then grease the Piston and put it back all together...
