I have recently been diagnosed with having blood clots in my lungs and have been put on blood thinners for 6 month. The Dr has advised me against thinking any alcohol as it too thins the blood. That will make my blood too thin. Putting me at risk for having blood pressure issuws.I usually have a whiskey along with watching this show. But this time sadly I was not able to watch and not drink a whiskey with you two. I hope this 6 months goes by quickly so I can get back to doing what I love. Drinking whiskey with two awesome guys and a whole community of awesome whiskey lovers.

Bought a store Pick form Yellowstone last year in Colorado. It was absolutely horrid. I gave it away and the person I gave it to, who is way less picky than I am, said it was "really strange". I think he was being kind.
I worked overnights for about 5 years. Whiskey time was around 8am because that was my "evening." and other people's breakfast was my dinner time.

I was just in Galveston Texas due too evacuation from hurricane IDA, i wish i could have got the opportunity to come there! Did go to specs and pick up a bottle of laphroaig 10 and four roses single barrel to enjoy while out there 👍
On morning drinking for night shift workers, there are pubs in the UK which opened in the morning for nightshift workers such as market porters at fish and fruit & veg markets.

When I was working graveyard in college, I would occasionally go to the grocery store after getting off work at 6 AM and buy a beer. I got some condescending looks. People with homes around the local park didn't appreciate me shooting hoops at 7 AM either.

We're going back like 25 years now but I appreciate wondering when whiskey time is after the night shift. Because this one time my friend calls at 730 am and says you have to come get me I just got off work and took a hit of acid and you have to come get me. And my first question was who the hell thinks popping acid at 7am after the night shift is a good idea. You need to have your thinking priveleges revoked. So I'm glad there's people who at least think about whiskey times
I have one bottled at 109 proof and I think it is a lot more balanced than what you guys are describing. It reminds me a lot of Bookers country ham but lower proof.
I agree, I just purchased one last week at 109 as well, barreled in June of 17. It seems they learned there lesson from the time the one they were sent to the time they barreled ours.

As a nurse, it was all about the last day of the three days of night shift. Find a bar the morning of your last shift that still serve shots/alcohol, gather some coworkers who are also on their last shift for the week, go crazy.
Ultimate comfort food: Scrambled eggs, hash browns with onions and cheese, biscuits and sausage gravy and a glass of scotch.

Just got a 115 bottle and my God it is amazing.
I have the same bottle, but a year newer, and it's nice. Has a peanutty finish, too. Very enjoyable stuff. Maybe it's that much different?

Recently went to a local distillery, was very happy to see for a very good price I could taste a few of their whiskeys. Having never had a cast strength before was a little worried that all they had was barrel proof. I tried them and was really surprised how smooth they were. When I asked what proof they were I couldn't believe it when the lowest was 112, and highest being 123! Definitely excited to try more cast strength whiskeys

Wine ages in the bottle but whisky doesn't. I imagine this gives collecting wine an extra dimension that collecting whisky doesn't have. Are there any distillers that put a stave or spiral in the bottle in order to replicate this effect? If not, why not?

Actually I got the one of the 2022 Full Proof Yellowstone and it takes a good of bit of time to open up and cool off. First drink from the bottle is really hot. But once you get thru a 1/3 of it and the air brings it down and it is tasty at the point on.

So is there a difference between adding water to a whiskey than having a whiskey at a lower proof?
Yes, no matter what the cask strength is it will always be more viscous and concentrated than it is with water added. Image the difference between a cask strength whisky at 110 proof vs something at 125 proof watered down to 110. I personally love lower cask strengths in the 110-120 range.
@@Hordes_Of_Nebulah AHH so in other words adding water will thin it out where as being made to a lower proof is more controlled to only bring down the alcohol?
@@musicjunkiie2393 Yeah that is essentially the idea there. A lot of it is the result of how the added water interacts with the oils from the barrel. By reducing the concentration of those oils you're reducing the viscosity and sometimes even altering or masking certain flavors while other ones become more prominent. Hence why even adding a small drop of water to the glass can have a dramatic effect. So a whiskey proofed down 20+ points to 110 won't be as rich as something coming out of the cask at that strength. Also a lower cask strength whiskey tends to hold up better in the 80-100 range since you don't need as much water to bring it down.
@@Hordes_Of_Nebulah I suppose if a whiskey was lower proof just through barrel aging that would also be wildly different to adding water to it also as there was no added water but rather alcohol evaporating so the oils are more concentrated, would be good to see a whiskey tribe video exploring this.

Every spring I work 12 hour nights for several weeks and I just don’t touch whisky your just too tired. You’re only 12 hours from going back to work with a half hour commute each way.

Overrated brash, young bourbon that doesn’t deserve my hard earned money. Perhaps the future holds upcoming better developed releases from this producer. That lumps this in with a great many NDPs and even small distillery labels that aren’t really releasing intrinsic value that we deserve. Not a one of these can beat a Knob Creek store pick at a much lower price. You cannot deny that…
