As a poor Whisky enthusiast this video blew me away. I expected a very pretentious and snooty interview, but what I got was a down to Earth history lesson and storytelling. Superb.

Dewayne is the real deal. I have tasted whisky with him multiple times and some of my friends have been to his place. You will definitely find him attending major whisky events in the Texas/Oklahoma region. He’s a disciplined collector with an excellent palate.

I had the opportunity to drink a glass of Pappy 23 at my uncle's house on Christmas eve a few years ago. He waited until everyone else left and it was only him, my dad and me. They poured me a glass with 1 large ice cube inside. They taught me the "Kentucky chew". To smell it first then take a drink and hold it on your tongue. It was the best whiskey I've ever had! My dad also had a few bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle 12 year at his house we drank a few times.

No wonder he did well for himself. Straight shooter, tell it like it is, motivated, charismatic, and intelligent. I was hoping a little bit that I would dislike a person who collects like this, but he is the real deal and genuine to boot. That was a treat to watch.
Dewayne pulled himself up by his boot straps. He once was a roofer. Now he owns a company that leases out equipment for open heart surgery.

Dewayne honestly seems down to earth, humble, and friendly. I'd drink a glass of anything (even water) with him, just to be able to hear stories and learn about his collection.
He really is a normal guy. Went to lunch with him at a little hole in the wall place. Everyone knew his name and seemed genuinely happy to see him.
What's even more priceless is how Dewayne has shared incredible moments with whiskey connoisseurs and aficionados through something that was once just grains once upon a time. Thank you for sharing your passion with us!

I have been out to a restaurant with him (not a fancy one) and everyone was so kind to him because he is so nice and tips well. I thought it said a lot about his character.

This guy is a hero and to me represents the benchmark for any whiskey fan/collector. Lover of not just the bottles or the liquid but the people involved in the trade as well. I'd love to read some of the stories he has over the years.

In my humble opinion, Mr Poor honestly earned what he has ... his passion is whiskey ... he enjoys it ..., he shares this passion with others ... and that's it ... and the rest is silence (as in Shakespeare). Everyone has a chance to develop their passions ... but the easiest way to criticize :-(. Wonderful man...I wish him more specimens for the collection!

I'm so happy this popped up in my feed. I'm not a collector, but I do enjoy fine whiskey and the stories and history that goes along with it. While the collection here is magnificent, the best part for me is what a wonderful person Dewayne is. He's clearly down to earth and willing to share his passion.

The fact that he has that much Balvenie Tonne (including the 1 of 1) is beyond epic. Ive owned 1 Tonne and tasted 3, they are super hard to get and amazing 1 offs made each year

Love this one! Imagine having so much whiskey that your bottle count is estimated! Crazy! I'm also amazed by his humility and his knowledge of EVERY bottle he has!
My little collection is usually "estimated" because I don't want to face the cold hard fact of how out of hand it has gotten :-)

Thank you for the experience! 26-year-old pall here getting inspired as I finally grew up a bit and can actually afford to drink better quality Scotch and bourbon. Gotta say though that pappy shelf looked dreamy over here cause it is impossible to find in Europe. Thanks again to you and Dewayne Poor for displaying such an elite-level collection!

Such an array of whisky collections
A feast in the eye !
It is overwhelming standing in the vault. Everywhere you look there is something that catches your eye.
Please read this comment before posting a negative comment. I have written this as a response to recurring negative statements.
1. Having this many closed bottles is a waste: There is a difference between drinking and collecting. Whiskey drinker's often drink whiskey because they like the effects of the alcohol and possibly the flavor. Nothing wrong with that, but if that is all you think of whiskey you are going to have a hard time distinguishing between a bottle's utility as a drinkable spirit and its value as a historical documentation of a time and place. There are different levels of spirits. Some spirits I too precious to just be opened and drank casually. Since spirits do not go bad in the bottle over time, collectors provide a valuable service for future generations to be able to experience a piece of spirits' history that would have been lost to time if every bottle was opened and drank on release. If you watch the episode you see that Dewayne does open these bottles, and there is only one whiskey in his entire collection he has never tried. He is saving it for his birthday next year, but he does have a plan to open it. So don't look at Dewayne or anyone like him as someone who only enjoys owning and doesn't enjoy drinking. He drinks these whiskeys. It is true that he has too many bottles for anyone to expect he will drink them all before he leaves this earth, but that is both a valuable benefit to his family (because of the money they will bring when they are sold) and the collectors who end up buying them (because of the rare opportunity to try something from the far past).
2. Comments about Dewayne losing the entire collection in an earthquake/theft/fire/etc.: I do not know why so many people see this man's life's work and immediately think of how he could lose it all, but if you read the comments it is a very common thought. DEWAYNE DOES NOT LIVE WHERE THERE ARE LARGE EARTHQUAKES. There have been three earthquakes the bunker has withstood without loosing a drop and the collection has a separate earthquake insurance policy. The building has access controls, and alarm, the bunker entrance is hidden, the bunker locks down if the alarm goes off (locking in any would-be thieves), is strategically located near a responding police station, and the police are aware of the theft risks. The bunker was also built to be fire and tornado resistant and has a fire suppression system, and the collection is insured.
3. Alcohol is a scourge to society and no one should drink it: It is true that alcohol can be dangerous and that some people should avoid it. If you chose to abstain from drinking I support you. That said, my channel is hardly the place to preach the evils of alcohol. I educate people about all the positive benefits of responsibly enjoying whiskey. I could write an entire book about how alcohol helped form the modern world, so you are not going to convince me or my average viewer that alcohol is evil. Also, remember that having the right to tell others what to do with their bodies would make those individuals subservient to you and therefore not free willed individuals. It would also make you a narcissist, and no one wants to be a narcissist.
Please understand this video was create to entertain, inspire, and educate, so tried to view in with that spirit in mind. Cheers!

Wait, did you say the alarm trip locks burglars inside the whiskey vault? If I ever find out I have a terminal disease I hope everyone can appreciate the fact that I will be heading to this vault the same day I receive the unfortunate news. I’m not going to spend my final days clinging to life and wasting my entire life’s savings that can be passed on to my surviving family on pain pills and medicines that will ultimately do nothing. I’m getting locked inside this bunker and dying with dignity in my heart, and bourbon on my lips. I just ask Mr. Poor to keep a Cuban in the vault so I can have a stogie as well. I’ll leave an envelope of cash to pay for whatever I drink, but this is how I go out lol.

I forward that motion and expand the idea to include that when we uncork a "Significant or Rare to Us" bottle of whiskey amongst friends we honor it with the title of a "Dewayne Pour", of course one must never confuse the ceremony with a dram of Kentucky Deluxe which bears a close resemblance in the title of "Drain Pour".
This is legit. Secrecy, basement, fire suppression system,… Just exactly I would do it. However, this guy surpasses anything I could have thought of as a young entrepreneur. Props….

I wonder if he ever gets drunk? Probably?? I went to a wine tasting where there was a bunch of rich people. They just tasted them; in very small amounts. At the end of the night they poured them down the drain. I couldn’t believe it. Could’ve at least handed them to the poor.

There have been a few small earthquakes in OK and TX in the last 10 years, but the fault line is one that is unlikely to produce anything big enough to cause a problem.

I really enjoyed this and I don’t even drink but on my travels I have always got my dad a nice whiskey from airports and such. It’s super interesting to see his collection may be worth a lot more now.
I spoke with him this week. We are planning a follow up and filming in the other bunker. I will see what the collection's value is up to when I do that recording.

This was one of the most informative whiskey videos ever, I was zoning out on this collection i have a lot of great bourbon but this is beyond incredible. Has he gotten hold of the Buffalo Trace 40 year (The Last Drop).
He has every Michter's 20...including the release that had only 11 bottles. I held it!

@@98durangopack I do not know much about scotch. If you check out last weeks episode we tastes 5 different scotches, talk about their profile, etc. I like them all. Two of them I LOVED! This weeks episode (will drop on Friday) is a list of shelf available bourbons for under $60. Between those two episodes that should be enough to get you started. A couple that you may want to start off with would be Four Roses Small Batch or Evan Williams Single Barrel. 4R is very fruity and floral and EW SiB has more barrel influence in the flavor. Both are excellent bourbons for a good price, and easy to find.

I told him before we were filming I didn't want to handle any bottles worth more than 10K, I didn't need to accidentally break something so valuable that it would change my financial future. I did end up handling some of the rare bottles, but I tried to make him do that.

I like this guy. Not because he is a collector or has expensive bottles, but because he likes scotch as much as I do. I would say though that I do not have any connections like he does nor have I been to the distilleries... yet. I have been to Scotland a couple of times and drank some expensive scotches but I want to go to the distilleries next time I am over that way.

I would love to just have his Pappy collection!😂 I’m not a big scotch fan, but my goodness I can only imagine what some of those 65-70 year olds taste like! I lol when he said the new Pappy was aged in a dill pickle barrel! The cult will still drive the price up on bad tasting Pappy though!
In his other bunker he has a Michter's 20 that is number 2 of something like 12. Probably one of the rarest bourbons ever released.

I would walk very slowly in his bunker cuz if by accident i happen to break his expensive bottles i would have to sell my kidney.
We needed to move bottles around to do the filming and for me to take photos. I made him move any bottle himself that was worth more than 10K because I told him I didn't need to handle whiskey that replacing it would "change my future" :-)

With a collection like that I would rather know what his day to day go to pour is. Clearly he isn't drinking his collection.
He opens one of everything, so he does drink a lot of fine whiskey. When we were together he had a Henry McKinney and a KC 15 Year. Not sure what his Scotch daily is.
