My grandfather bought it in 1984. We still have it, though it is resting inside the garage. No plans to sell it. And yes we take it out for long drives once every month. Proud of it.

My grandfather used to travel in it. He was a deputy commissioner. When we used to go to our village in this car, people from nearby villages used to gather to see this car.

we too had the great Ambassador in my childhood days and i loved it...
Surely this brought back lot of old memories. My grandfather had a Mark 2 and Mark 3 Amby. I learnt my driving in a Mark 3 during early 90s. Real real old school. My grandfather also had that car for almost 30yrs. The concept of power steering wasn't even invented during the time that car was launched. It use to be fight with the steering column mounted gear💪 sometimes need to double declutch. There was plethora of dials and pull type switches on the dashboard. No a/c. The horn was mounted on the steering column like a chrome finished ring and center dial had small thingy as indicator stock. Now funny thing the head flash switch was placed next to the clutch which u press with ur left foot. So you had to have a good coordination to flash ur headlights and change gears at the same time.😀 But this was truly an iconic car. I mean Faisal if you agree HM had all the time and money to innovate their product to be in the competition to counter MSL's onslaught in late 80s but the company just slept on it and eventually shutting down. These cars are still running strong on streets of Kolkata "The iconic Yellow Taxis." Hope someday some company resurrect this car.

Come to Kolkata u will find roads flooded with ambassadors from govt officials, ministers ,taxi drivers( iconic yellow taxis ) to d common man. .many people still maintain the old ambassadors & give it a spin on roads even today

We had one, Ambassador REGENT 1991 Model. It was limited edition,very few had been made, I guess. Loaded with electronic fuel pump, Air-conditioner, plastic dash board,Runs on wider set of tires, Pioneer music system as factory fitment, Hand operated geardrive. In addition we have installed original Hella fog lamps, Carriage roof, Window curtains, painted in black colour.. I have lots of nostalgia associated with it. I admit that the driving thrill it had offered is unparalleled. It has soul Which today,s modern days cars lacks. Still we have separate garrage for the legend and don't have intention to let him go.
Back then we had 2 ambassadors both had almost VIP nos.417 and 782.😍 Dude and i still love this car.. whenever i see this car on road i just stand aside and wait for the car to get away from my vision.😍😍😍
Its seats were like a normal size indoor couch. One of the car had the gear system near the steering wheel which we then modified and shifted to normal one. Car with no. 782 was a bit new and had all the best features back then. Seats were same iconic ones.

Perfect review but to add on I own an 1800isz manual steering variant of 2011 which has clocked only 12k kms till date without any single modification,to be honest the manual steering drives better & well the top speed is close to 155kmph though the engine sounds more than the music system

I hope to see a perfectly restored original HM Ambassador someday. As a car guy you'd always want to see a restrained restoration of the Ambassador as the classic car that it is rather than making it something it's not, something like a friggin' Sumo here (the bush guard with the fog lights) Sigh.

I was in Southern India for two weeks in July this year. Saw almost no Ambassadors, all the cars are locally built, Toyotas, Hondas, VW etc. They seem to stand up fairly well to the "roads"!
We own an Amby model 1981.My dad bought the car in 1988.We have changed the engine(Actually a petrol then we changed the engine HM+ engine 1500 cc).Extremely reliable and sturdy.
