Look! It turns out iOS 16.2 will have the option to turn wallpaper and/or notifications off in Always-On mode. Excited to try it out. www.macrumors.com/2022/11/15/ios-16-2-always-on-display-toggles/
Expected to have to wait a full year before Apple added these kinds of settings, was happy to see them already added! I even downloaded the 16.2 beta today and switched these off - works great! I think they should add on/off switches for everything (widgets, media, etc), and let you set it exactly how you want it
I’ve gotta say. LMG was spot on when they picked Jonathan to host Mac Address. I don’t actually know how much he is involved in the creative process and branding stuff, but I still feel like he is the soul of Mac Address. Kudos to the team.
It definitely seems like Linus has little influence over the videos. I had to unsub from LTT, etc. but still love Mac Address! Reminds me of the older days of LTT when they would do deeper dives.
Making iOS AOD a bit more like Android AOD. I love how every iPhone fanboy screamed on twitter about how much better iOS AOD was compared to the "oldschool generic android AOD" (their words not mine). Suddently Apple releases this update that transforms AOD more like Android AOD and now everyone seems to be excited about finally being able to do this and how much better it is for battery life lol no shit, android users knew this since like 2015. You want AOD to be as basic and simple as possible to avoid draining the battery
The only feature I actually wanted was USB-C, but that doesn’t seem to be happening until next year. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why Apple didn’t bother with 8K ProRes video recording this year. Imagine having a transfer those files over USB 2.0 speeds.
@@raresmacovei8382 most of the rumors are that since they kind of were expecting to lose they are ready for the switch for next year's model so the previous generation of phones at the end of 2024 can also be sold.
Finally a video that recognizes not every iPhone uses upgrades every year. I am on an 11 pro and am trying to hold off until the 15, which would be the most generations I've waiting between iphones. every upgrade i'm holding on to them longer, which means they're being built better and lasting longer. I barely have much use for the features this generation other than 5G. I am trying to hold out for the USB C chargers.
USB C might not come if Apple goes with portless 👀 I switched from a iPhone X to a 13 Pro, and I was blown away by the upgrade in speed, display, and cameras. But since the software is all the same, I got used to it really fast… and honestly it didn’t feel like a new phone after a week or so. That’s not to say that the upgrade wasn’t worth it, but like you said, unless you need specific features, it’s definitely fine to wait a while.
Think that's more of a 'the market has matured', upgrades end up being incremental rather than revolutionary. There isn't that much that can be improved during these short release cycles anymore. Not just with iPhones btw, it's the same thing in the Android landscape - all new phones are just the same as the old version but a little bit better. There's no massive steps forward in any specific part, there's no new must-have features. 5G is highly overrated, barely ever will you notice an actual difference. You have to be in very specific locations to actually have a faster connection than 4G* and it sure as heck isn't more reliable. USB-C - ehhh, probably won't happen. Apple likes making money off accessories - a many billion $$$ market. USB-C would make them no money, removing the port (as was done with the audiojack) and selling magsafe chargers at a premium (as was done with earpods) is a much better business plan. So you can probably use that iPhone until it stops working or until the urge to want something new and shiny gets too strong. *Do note that having a '5G' icon on the top of the screen doesn't mean you have a 5G connection, it might just be creative marketing. AT&T shows 5G E for a very sub-par 5G but tiny little bit better than 4GB connection (even after lots of controversy about it) and some other carriers pull off some similar nonsense. This along with people not realising 4G can actually already do 100Mbps in ideal real world circumstances and 5G seems more and more like a big marketing campaign to push people to buy new phones and more expensive data plans.
I personally have a DLSR to capture trips and memories, but while at a botanical garden last month I was forced to use my iPhones camera because all of my batteries happened to be dead (forgot to charge them the night before), and I was not disappointed in the results with the new 48mp camera (only used ProRaw). When editing later on I was shocked at how much detail it actually captured.
@@brentschmogbert Nobody *needs* a camera [for hobby use], much in the same way nobody *needs* most of the tech we have around us. But shooting on a real camera is much more enjoyable (and convenient with EVF) than on a smartphone and so much more flexible; stick a telephoto on and any phone will not come close.
I'm one of those people who shoots exclusively with the iPhone. There was a time when I wanted a camera, but once I got the Halide app on my iPhone XR a few years ago and learned manual control and RAW shooting on that, I've decided to just stick with using the phone. Especially now with my 13 pro Max, the three different lenses cover pretty much any kind of picture I'd taking, dynamic range is pretty good, and just the fact that I will always have my phone with me makes the idea of getting a camera not make much sense any more. Of course having a camera would have its benefits, but the phone has been good enough for me so far, and that's why I'm sticking with it.
Same here. Having a big camera is nice, but it's always cumbersome to bring it. Having a good camera in your phone just invites you to take photos any time you see a good motive.
@@hellnawnaw Agreed as well. Having a nice camera in my pocket covers my picture needs 99.9% of the time. Unless I’m traveling, particularly somewhere with lots of animals that might be really far way, the iPhone covers me perfectly. It’s also just more convenient than dealing with charging and stuff for a camera battery.
Does Halide still require a subscription to be used? I'm curious because I know it's the best iPhone camera app and, despite having a DSLR for my hobbyst portrait shooting, I wanted to unlock the full potential of my iPhone 13 Mini's sensor but I don't like the software as subscription model so I didn't try Halide myself yet
@@agoniavr Yep Halide switched to a subscription model a little while ago, and I’m pretty sure they’re still using it. Since then, I’ve tried many other RAW camera apps, and I’ve settled with using CameraPixels mostly. It’s $7 I think, but I’d also recommend Reeflex camera since it’s free and also allows RAW shooting and full manual control. I don’t really understand Halide’s subscription model when there plenty of other apps that have the same functionality for a single payment.
@@reeceboyd4237 me neither, I mean I actually red some of their blog posts and you can see the people behind it are VERY knowledgeable and they even reverse-enginereed some of the proprietary Apple stuff to make it work the best it can with their app but yeah, a subcription for a camera app? That's a big no for me
I was asking for a smaller cut out, instead, we got a bigger and prettier cutout. In my opinion, i will prefer a smaller cutout instead of the dynamic island every day of the week
I'm not saying Samsung's got you covered. But they got you covered there. Even the a13, a 190€ phone has a smaller cutout that the previous iphones. But no dedicated ir-sensor, the face unlock and screenbrightness sensors on my a50 are shit, I've heard that they've improved it in the past years.
Yea I though the future would be to eliminate all screen interruptions and going all under screen or any other solution. The future would always be to make it smaller and smaller until the screen was not interrupted anymore. But I guess Apple just figured they could actually evolve backwards to not make it expensive to produce, and just create a full extra software feature around it and make it the selling point so people would not mind the bigger display interruption. But I do. There is no software in this world that can fix bad hardware. Fck dynamic island, not only is the hole bigger and lower in the screen, it also wiggles and moves around screaming for your attention. The future should be making it unnoticeable, not make it scream to be noticed ... I have no idea what Apple users have in their heads. iOS is great in many things but moves like this from Apple just make me puke and never buy anything from them.
@@michealadebz nope, it sits slightly lower on the screen, effectively blocking more of the screen content, while the strip of screen of top of it doesn't have any use whatsoever. It "looks" smaller but it's actually more obtrusive than the notch in the iPhone 13 and 14
I'm definitely hoping there will be more done with the Dynamic Island; it seems kind of ridiculous that notifications still drop down separately, taking even more screen real estate away, when you have this beautiful area at the top to display them in. I believe in an earlier piece on the 14 Pro (or maybe it was another channel ,I can't remember), someone joked that Apple caught up with the LG V20 and its secondary screen above the main screen. I had one of those, and it was great! Being able to receive calls and see notifications and phone vitals without taking up any screen space was fantastic. The Dynamic Island is a hair's breadth away from that amount of usefulness.
I think you hit a few good points. But to me the problem with the camera is the native camera app. From it's limited settings as well as rendering the DNG files un-exportable.
6:17 Yes. yes I did buy it exclusively for the camera. Quite literally nothing else matters. Phones otherwise aren't doing anything interesting. The dynamic island is okay. I turned off AOD after getting the phone. The increased brightness isn't something I've noticed. The only thing that made a substantial change this year, for me, is the camera. AND BOY DO I LOVE THE CAMERAS ON THIS THING. I cannot express it better than Halide's maker, lux, of which you can look up their review on this camera. Gets it perfectly. For someone like me? I've been waiting for this iPhone!! 😄
I've heard the 2000 nits outside ONLY turns on if you have Auto Brightness on in the Accessibility settings. I did get a 14 Pro Max though since I'm upgrading from an iPhone 7 and I plan on keeping it for many many years to come, just like I did with the 7.
So far I really like the dynamic island on my 14 pro. My only complaint with the phone is that there is some crazy studded on home swipe animations every once in a while. It looks like it’s a fairly documented problem so hopefully there is a software fix in the works
You hit the nail on the head that annoys me the most with getting stuff on and off the phone. Data transfer rates are terrible and really need to be increased with the times... Hopefully next gen type c connections will finally also push apple to increase data transfer speeds to mobile devices.
I upgraded from the 2018 iPhone XS to the 14 Pro and the improvements are insane. Each year's incremental upgrades might not seem like much, but when you combine them all together, you will see big differences
The best is to upgrade once every 3 years. It would feel like a bigger leap with all the newer features combined! I can’t wait for my next upgrade where I’ll likely get USB C, Dynamic Island, Cinematic video, AOD and A17.
i upgraded from 6s to 13 mini which is a 6 year gap. i think i could probably do every 4 years and be content because apple supports their devices for so long.
Photographers say that the best camera is the camera you have with you, at the moment a really good photo opportunity presents itself, and that's my iPhone for me. I only take my enormous and now quite ancient DSLR out on special occasions, but my phone is always in my pocket, and ready to go at any time. It is also the best *video camera* I not just have with me but have at all, since I've never owned a dedicated one of those. I actually shot my sister's wedding with my 12 Mini (she gave me strict instructions to not buy any new gear) and got quite respectable results with a little care in preparing the shoot and a fair bit of post-processing.
The Mac Address Team does such a wonderful job characterizing this channel in such a unique way compared to LTTs other projects! The videos have such a distinctive tone and feel that has me hooked pretty much regardless of the subject matter. You guys are doing wonderfully, keep it up!
16.2 beta 3 introduced the ability to make the always on background pure black and turn on or off widgets, so soon a lot of the criticisms about the always on may become invalid.
90% of new phones arent designed to be upgrades anymore, but for new people to get in or people who have a way older gen. no one should ever update from a 13 pro to a 14 pro
I care less about the dynamic island than I thought I would and more about the always on display than I expected. At first I was distracted by the always on display constantly noticing it out of the corner of my eye thinking it was a notification turning it on. The dynamic island is useful for sports scores now, but I dislike having to manually enable it for certain games in the third party apps I have tried. I think it will get better over time. It’s great for timers. My favorite two new features are the 48MP camera and the longer battery life.
i got my iphone 14 pro through a phone plan that was available to me through work, and have started using it for photography and recording some videos. the reason i haven't gotten a dedicated camera is because i don't know enough about it to make a decision on buying a product that specifically is for photo/video projects yet. i'm sure if i find myself wanting something more i will go down that road, but the simplicity offered in an iphone - being able to take (in my opinion) great photos and videos - is completely unmatched for me.
My god you're finnaly first content creator I've came across to point our how the tap and hold functions on the pill feel reverse and you're absolutely right like why would i want to hold it even if its a few milliseconds to pause a song if it is the same speed as taping on the pill and openig the app to do so
Not just with an iPhone, but in challenging lighting conditions, phones do a de ent job without having to process anything, while with a camera you need to stack photos and whatnot. That’s the reason many sunset photos I take while traveling are with a phone.
Most people aren't photography or cinematic hobbyists. For pretty much everyone, the 14 Pro (and iPhone models even going back a few years) is more than enough. I just take pics of my cats, at events, and cool things I see in public. I don't need to lug around a separate camera for that. The convenience of a pocketable device which I also need to carry around anyway makes normal cameras obsolete to me personally, and the same is true for the general population.
I've been shooting only on iPhone since I got a used Xs at early 2019. I wanted a portable camera. Proud of that phone: really great shots came from all over the world. Upgraded to iPhone 13 Pro and wow. Such a great phone. Been in the market for a camera, but stuck in my comfy lane by switching from Android to iPhone. Thinking might get the 15 Pro, but now that the telephoto camera is broken (too many vibrations on the bike, I bet 😔), might as well use the money for the repair for a nice video and still camera.
I think 48MP would be pretty useful for students since they often take pictures of text. The higher resolution would help with scanning homework and taking photos of lecture notes from whiteboards/projectors. Better telephoto would also be nice for large lecture halls. I only had 2x as a student, but I doubt the current 3x would be much better.
@@michealadebz ? What do you mean by that? My argument is that people usually zoom in to read photos with small text, so the extra resolution would help a lot. However, for other kinds of photos, it’s hard to tell the difference between 12MP and 48MP unless you’re pixel-peeping. I don’t know how it was for you, but after Covid, my university made us turn in homework digitally, so we took lots of photos of our homework with our phones
@@purplepotato7 the 14 pro doesn’t take pictures in 48 megapixels by default you need to switch to pro res and it would be kinda dumb to take a 108 mega byte 48mp photo every time you wanted to capture notes
I use a 12MP camera for and it works perfectly 99% of the time. If I had like 18MP I wouldn't have any issues. 48MP is insanely overkill. Most pro cameras doesn't have that
I've already got used to always taking 48MP ProRAW and daily transforming them into JPGs with a 1-click shortcut. The photo size is just 15-20MBs, very acceptable for that quality.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but why would you you do that? Is it because you ShootingPlus in ProRAW and edit on phone first before converting to jpg?
@@TimdeVille starting with RAW and then manually converting to JPEG doesn’t add Apple’s default post-processing effects. Makes certain subjects/lighting situations look infinitely better.
I have a personal curiosity about the Genshin benchmark. Because some locations of the world (especially new ones like some parts of Sumeru as of the time of typing) are still somewhat unoptimized, so Jon should list the location where the test is held as well. As an iPhone 12 Pro Max user, you can easily get stable 60FPS (very occasional spikes) in Mondstadt kingdom but you’ll get crazy graphical artifacting when a lot of particles and effects show up WHILE IN DRAGONSPINE (such as Beidou’s Ultimate when fighting the Great Snowboar King).
I like shooting with just my iPhone because it's always there and so I can always be present and not bogged down with equipment or anything. It helps train your eye to get good composition and stuff, and it's fun to work within and see what you can do within some constraints to push the tech.
Yes, photos exclusively with the iPhone. In the past, I never remembered to carry a camera or to get it out when I did carry it. I always have my phone, and I remember to take photos much more frequently now than previously.
As I upgraded from an iPhone X, the 14 Pro was a huge jump for me. The image quality alone on the 12mp lens in standard format is better, the 48mp in pro raw is just outstanding. BUT, since I'm using the cameras more, with the higher resolution and file sizes, I am seeing my battery drop significantly, but it is nice to take those sudden impromptu photos. Since I post-edit anyway, I may just go back to a full format dslr. Even though it's more inconvenient to carry, set up and use. Well, at least you didn't call the cameras dslr cameras.
The kind of how to take photos in Phones will never change. Even these little point and shot cameras are so much more fun to shoot with even with the down side of caring an extra tech with u and maybe being slower then just two clicks in the ur phone
There’s a shortcut you can use in the Shortcuts app to convert RAW files to HEIC or JPG which significantly reduces the file size without losing too much detail.
I do own few dslrs and a fairly compact x100f. But after getting 13pro last year along with the proRaw, I am now exclusively shooting with iPhone. It fits my needs of capturing everyday moments with my toddler and my occasional semi pro photos with the help of apps like Halide. Only thing holding me back from upgrading to 14pro is huge size of a proRaw and entry level having 128gb only along with lightning. Hope to see at least usb C because now it seems like it will make it before 256gb makes it to the starting tier iPhones. Great video by the way. Love your style of take on tech and yes, like you, every year my excitement about iPhones is waning too.
There are a few camera companies which Apple could buy for relatively little money. Imagine what an Apple chip could do with a bigger sensor and a variety of lenses.
I went from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to a iPhone 14 pro max and I love it! Had bugs and issues with the dynamic island. But god! The camera and display are an amazing upgrade
4:36 they should've copied LG V20 Implementation of Multimedia controls on the islands. Controls are displayed and tap the icon if you want to go to the app.
I actually disagree that the dyna isle interaction is backwards. It's a system wide iOS constant that tap equals open, while long press equals see more. Feels natural to me.
I got the 14 pro because I feel like if they use the Dynamic Island to its fullest potential it could be a notification/multi tasking beast but it’s definitely not there yet
I was going to jump ship for android to iPhone when the 14 pro came out, but the MAJOR factor that held me back was the lightning connector. Ended up getting a pixel 7 instead.
I’m using the iPhone X and am still pretty satisfied with its performance even today. Apple did a great job keeping animations smooth and keeping stutter out of older phones. It’s slower, but stutter free and that’s more than good enough. I am excited for the iPhone 15 though, they will be coming with the new 3nm processor from TSMC. That’s my endgame, will upgrade to that and hold it for 5 years.
I was a staunch defender of the notch. Having gone from an iPhone six to the 10, it always felt like less of the notch imposing itself into the screen, and more like free real estate on either side for the clock and battery instead of having to have a task bar across the top. The hole on the other hand, I hate it. Once you put the little bit of light across the top of it, now it feels like it imposes itself on the screen. I and maybe I would feel differently if I got used to it, but I couldn’t care less about an always on display. And that’s only useful if you’re setting your phone on your desk all the time, but mine is always in my pocket so for me to look at it I have to pull it out anyway. Even on my watch I almost never, wish the display was on.
The good thing is that Apple will give us the possibility to change the way the always on feature works. In iOS 16.2 you can choose disable the wallpaper in always on mode.
1:33 Try turning on Auto brightness. As far as I know iPhones (adn most other phones) will only hit the "peak outdoor" brightness figure when they're on auto brightness, you can't manually crank it up to 2000 nits (well you can manually crank up the brightness but it'll only go up to 1000 nits (which is actually also an increase from the 13 Pro, which had a manual max brightness of 800 nits and the 1000 nit mode was only outdoors). These are the brightness figures for the 13 Pro vs. 14 Pro: 13 Pro Manual/indoors max brightness: 800 nits all-screen HDR content brightness: 800 nits all-screen, 1200 nits specular highlights Auto brightness when ambient light sensor detects a very bright light (like the Sun outdoors): 1000 nits all-screen 14 Pro: Manual indoors max brightness: 1000 nits all-screen HDR content brightness: 1000 nits all-screen, 1600 nits specular highlights Auto brightness outdoors: 2000 nits all-screen
My iPhone 12 is my camera. I admit I’m not a photography snob by any means, and honestly I’m pretty happy with the results either in still or motion photography.
I did like the K Zoom. Actually I'm Sad that it's not produced anymore. It made awesome Pictures and had a nice Zoom. And all of that in a small package.
9:35 you cant join Metal and Vulkan tests in a single number like this. I have no idea why almost all Apple youtubers do it, and now it seems that even Linus group is doing it too. They are completely different graphics backends and should NOT be compared directly like this. A 7k Vulkan score might be actually bigger performance than a 15k Metal score. You cannot compare them like this. With stuff like this you will then see Apple fanboys shouting on Twitter about how "far ahead" the iPhones are in these scores, when you actually can't even compare them...
I converted from the Pixel 6 Pro to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, would say the dynamic island makes a lot more sense to me then the "floating" icons that the Pixel has. I miss the more interactive notification centre though from the Pixel world.
I’ve gotten the 14 pro after upgrading from my old 8+ that I’ve had for YEARS. It’s been a very enjoyable upgrade to say the least (especially since I could still trade in my old phone)
This might seem a bit random but I really appreciate that MA is showing of the devices and videos like this without any DeBrand skin on them like usually is the case when watching ShortCircuit.... I like DeBrand and their skins but when showing of and reviewing devices like this and their features, as a viewer i just feel much more intrested in when its just the device as it supposed to be and not having some flashy skin on it
I’ve found myself to have become an iPhone photographer due to the convenience as it’s with me almost all the time. I’ll often forget to grab my camera when going out. Photos are spontaneous most of the time.
Unless I am going somewhere like on holiday or to an event (where I will bring a standalone camera) I will always use my iPhone to take photos. Its the convenience factor of always having one attached to the thing I carry everywhere. 👍👍
That were my thoughts when I got myself 14 pro to replace 11 pro. That is a huge leap between two. Compared to 13 pro - nothing have changed, just the pill instead of a notch 🤷🏻♂️ I take my photos solely on my iphone, and the photo process now is…same… tho it is better and faster, but can never tell the difference between the photos in a blind test
No one else thought of creating a software extension off the notch before? LG did, and apple literally couldn’t manage to copy it before lg dropped dead. This is nothing new lol
You need to toggle on the adaptive brightness for the auto brightness to look diffrent than last years phone(and let the sensor do its work),what you did is manually turn up the brightness which will not take effect to 2000nits
I'm curious what graphics settings you used for Genshin Impact, because it CAN go above 60FPS on models with ProMotion, but only if you turn everything else down to Low or Off.
I in fact upgraded to the 14 pro from the stock iPhone 11. So for me it’s a monumental upgrade. I love the high refresh rate and super bright display the most in terms of features
I mainly take photos with an 11 pro max, but I daily an SE 2020 because I much prefer to carry a smaller, lighter phone in my pocket that is less expensive to repair. I’ll take the 11PM out only when I’m going to be taking photos. The only “real camera” I have is about 20 years old, 4mp sensor. Takes great photos unreliably, partly due to age and things not working properly, partly due to me not being a DSLR genius. I find that my 11PM is easier to take amazing photos with on a more consistent basis, and is just tons more portable due to it being phone shaped. Airdrop is another feature that a DSLR won’t have, although newer ones have Bluetooth connectivity though apps. Since I’m not a professional, I don’t see myself buying a relevant DSLR anytime soon when the 11PM is as good as it is. I have really been thinking about trading it in for a 13PM to do the same thing with, but I wish there was a 2x zoom lens like the 11 pros instead of the 3x of the 13 pros… 3x is simply too much for a main lens. Leave that to software
Awesome video as always Jonathan, the more reasonable Apple fanboy I know. I bought a 14 Pro Max and I came from a 7. Completely game changer(of course), in every aspect but mostly battery wise and also screen wise. Next to each other, the 7’s screen looks like garbage. Then again I’m the kind of person who buys the best possible iPhone, keeps it for 6-7 years then buys the next best one. Battery change in between of course. Also I’m not into photography so the iPhone camera is more than enough for my use. Maybe even overkill.
10:33 - iPhone 7 $649 - iPhone 14 Pro $999 ... I just wish that i14 would cost that. Today's prices in Finland are (lowest iPhone) iPhone 11 399€ to iPhone 14 Pro 1349€ (max would be more) ... 1000€ difference! That iPhone 11 deal is quite sweet.
Nice review. I do own a mirrorless Sony Alpha camera but find myself using it less and less as (for me) the tradeoff in putting a great camera in my pocket versus lugging around lenses and batteries is worth it almost always.
Same situation here. Only use my mirrorless for astro and macro. Also find myself using video more often now, which I find the iPhone is actually better at than my Sony mirrorless (without gimbal).
@@Quest88 yeah and I also like the computational photography and processing of the iPhone over the shots from my camera. I mean, I'm not a professional and i don't wanna Lightroom every single photo to make it look nice.
I upgraded from an iPhone 11 (not a pro) to an iPhone 14 Pro. As someone who uses exclusively phones or tablets for video recording and photos, I honestly somehow still prefer my iPhone 11's image processing. Everything on the iPhone 14 Pro just looks over sharpened and zoomed in photos look dirty. And the colors are duller, Photographic styles do a decent job of fixing them s a bit though. But I will say that, I do enjoy the 48 mp photos, especially for making wallpapers. Like, you can take a photo with your iPhone that can make a 6016x6016 wallpapers, which is what macOS uses for the modern default wallpapers. And if you take a landscape photo and want to use it as a wallpaper for a 6K XDR display, or maybe just a 5K one, you have a lot of cropping room. 14 Pro was an instant upgrade when it was announced it has finally a higher MP camera.
Look! It turns out iOS 16.2 will have the option to turn wallpaper and/or notifications off in Always-On mode. Excited to try it out. www.macrumors.com/2022/11/15/ios-16-2-always-on-display-toggles/

USB-C won't happen in either 2023 or 2024.
It's 2025 at the earliest, if at all.
My hope is next year iPhone using thunderbolt of USB 4 speeds.
@@raresmacovei8382 most of the rumors are that since they kind of were expecting to lose they are ready for the switch for next year's model so the previous generation of phones at the end of 2024 can also be sold.
The cinematography in these videos is absolutely stunning and rapidly increasing in quality.
Ngl except for cinenamtic mode, pixel 7 is very close to the iPhone. It even has HDR recording.
Filming outside definitely adds to the unique style of the channel.
You’re really not missing out on much without 5G right now. At least on the east coast lmao.
@@JoshLeitzel for sure! Not a big deal for me right now. But I’m thinking in a year it’ll have more importance I hope.
USB C might not come if Apple goes with portless 👀
I switched from a iPhone X to a 13 Pro, and I was blown away by the upgrade in speed, display, and cameras.
I'm still using an iPhone 8 Plus and can find no reason to upgrade at all.
Nobody needs a dslr today..only maybe pros in studio. Waste of space and money m friend😊Nu
megapixels arent everything, but they really do matter
Just get a pre-owned iPhone 8 Plus... still a great phone and no screen vandalism whatsoever. Who the hell cares about bezels?
It’s the same size as the 13s notch…
3:43 except someone already thought of the dynamic island... LG
You ask why nobody has thought of the dynamic island before, but LG already had something similar on the V10 back in 2015. Great video by the way.
As a person who owns a 14 pro, the scene of him polishing the sides is SOOO relateable 😂😂😂
3:29 *There is already a setting for that*
Thanks
Hopefully next gen type c connections will finally also push apple to increase data transfer speeds to mobile devices.
be hilarious if they go straight to thunderbolt 3 40gb, so they wont have to change it for another 10 years
I upgraded from the 2018 iPhone XS to the 14 Pro and the improvements are insane. Each year's incremental upgrades might not seem like much, but when you combine them all together, you will see big differences
Same, from 64 Gb to 512. It’s nice to finally have some space
Same, from 128 GB to 1 TB
9:42 why are there 6 bar graphs but only 5 phones
These videos seem like they are just getting better and better.
Despite me using a dslr, I think a mirrorless is the way to go now.
would recommend
I think 48MP would be pretty useful for students since they often take pictures of text. The higher resolution would help with scanning homework and taking photos of lecture notes from whiteboards/projectors.
Better telephoto would also be nice for large lecture halls. I only had 2x as a student, but I doubt the current 3x would be much better.
I don’t think you know how the 48 megapixels work
@@michealadebz ?
Most pro cameras doesn't have that
9:39 what’s with this graph? There are 6 bars but 5 labels on the left?? Huh?
I've already got used to always taking 48MP ProRAW and daily transforming them into JPGs with a 1-click shortcut. The photo size is just 15-20MBs, very acceptable for that quality.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but why would you you do that? Is it because you ShootingPlus in ProRAW and edit on phone first before converting to jpg?
@@TimdeVille starting with RAW and then manually converting to JPEG doesn’t add Apple’s default post-processing effects. Makes certain subjects/lighting situations look infinitely better.
This editing style, in combination with Jonathans "book reader" voice, makes this the best videos produced by LLT.
Good call on the on off setting for the lock screen. It is in the latest developer beta, along with the ability to turn the notifications off.
3:40 not quite correct, Huawei introduced this feature with its View20
One of my has the 14 pro max. Plays at the lowest settings but high crowd and frame rate. Infinite battery even with five gee
MacAddress films in Vancouver BC and it stands to reason the benchmarks were taken there as well.

I'm on a Sony Xperia 1 Mk IV here and yeah, older locations in the game run much smoother than the newer content.
What the phone can do and how good your connection to the next server is are two different things.
I like shooting with just my iPhone because it's always there and so I can always be present and not bogged down with equipment or anything. It helps train your eye to get good composition and stuff, and it's fun to work within and see what you can do within some constraints to push the tech.
iOS 16.2 Beta already introduces AOD wallpaper on/off toggle
Oh my, finally! I might start using AoD on this phone too (after using it on Android for years)
What happens if you activate one handed mode while there is an activity on the notch?
It sucks that you need an expensive subscription to get decent pictures.
06:55 extra pixels doesn't allow better stabilization. If it will there's no reason to crop from 4K to 2.8K.
Ended up getting a pixel 7 instead.
understandable. i couldnt imagine not having usb c on my phone
makes sense, i switched to a 13 pro from a Pixel 4a and I feel like I downgraded my phone because it doesn’t have usb c or a headphone jack
The amount of production quality that goes into these videos is absolutely amazing. Always a joy to watch from start to finish! 👏👏
Jonathan: It's so big 0:20

Everyone else: That's...
2:03 i like the selection of music
You can create a shortcut to convert the 48MP RAW into a 48M JPEG or HEIF to vastly reduce the file size if you just want the size
The good thing is that Apple will give us the possibility to change the way the always on feature works. In iOS 16.2 you can choose disable the wallpaper in always on mode.
$999? They're £1,099 in the UK, which is over $1,300.
3:28 there is one coming soon, unless you're on the betas then it's already here
1:33 Try turning on Auto brightness.
14 Pro:
13 Pro
Manual/indoors max brightness: 800 nits all-screen
HDR content brightness: 800 nits all-screen, 1200 nits specular highlights
Auto brightness when ambient light sensor detects a very bright light (like the Sun outdoors): 1000 nits all-screen
14 Pro:
Manual indoors max brightness: 1000 nits all-screen
HDR content brightness: 1000 nits all-screen, 1600 nits specular highlights
Auto brightness outdoors: 2000 nits all-screen
Dynamic Island should be with a notch alternative to older phones like the iPhone 13
My iPhone 12 is my camera. I admit I’m not a photography snob by any means, and honestly I’m pretty happy with the results either in still or motion photography.
this is an ltt video? this one was really really great, nice to see him outside instead of in the studio
Nice to see a shoutout to the Ricoh GR3, an amazing small Camera
I love this true Always On Display implementation but for those who don’t, iOS 16.2 would let you turn off AOD wallpaper.
This is the best channel in LTT's arsenal Imo. I've got an 11 pro max and this was exactly what I was looking for. 14 pro max here we come

10:25 Wow, it really is amazing how far iPhone design has come since the iPhone 7!

I take my photos solely on my iphone, and the photo process now is…same… tho it is better and faster, but can never tell the difference between the photos in a blind test

Welcome to the 2018 Android world
hey Jonathan….. what is this graph at 9:39? it’s entirely unreadable because there are 6 graphs and 5 labels
really loved the videography and editing on this one! great job.
10:34 yeah, but the iPhone 13 Pro, 12 Pro, 11 Pro, XS, and X were Al priced at $1000 dollars

I think almost everyone would trade a bit of 13 pro performance for the 120 hz over the regular 13
Many apps still haven’t updated to the larger notch
