@@mihnealazar7039 7075 is much stronger than 6061, but 7075 also has a lower melting point. They each have their own ideal applications. The iPhone 7 introduced the stronger aluminum because of the good ol’ bend gate.

SIM cards are great for people that need a backup phone at the ready. Even for people that don’t normally need that, it’s great for the dumb instance where you need your phone fixed and you’re without it for hours if not days. Just take the SIM card out, pull that dusty Pixel 4 out of the drawer, plop in the SIM, and boom, instant temp phone with all the features you need.
@@libardomm.trasimaco In a couple years esim will be the norm, so it won't matter. It's a just for a couple years until full adoption you might run into trouble.
eSIM works the same way and can potentially be even more convenient. You don't move a physical object around and it can be as simple as scanning a QR code. You can also have one eSIM stored in multiple phones. Other than the really slow rollout, eSIM is better than physical cards in every way. It's not really new tech anymore and we should have been running entirely on eSIMs years ago.
I feel like everyone's forgotten how easy it is to pick up a sim when travelling, and now that borders are opening up again, anyone who travels at all might start avoiding iPhone.
Apple's "SmartHDR" isn't the same thing as the "Photonic Engine". Apple uses SmartHDR to enhance photos with high amounts of light. In mid-to-low light their "Deep Fusion" kicks in, and in low light Nigth Mode kicks in. This new Photonic Engine basically refers to a newer, better version of Deep Fusion, where the part of the processing of the photo that is done by the Neural Engine gets applied much earlier than in the past, applying the processing to the raw photo from the sensor rather than the final compressed JPEG output. In the end Deep Fusion hasn't gone away on the iPhone 14 models, but Photonic Engine now refers to the entire new imagine processing pipeline for mid-low light photos (in situations where it's not dark enough for Night Mode to be activated, but still dark).
no offense but I think most people would say why do we need more fancy marketing terms of image processing? Its all computational photography in the end and its what every other smartphone manufacturer does. Some more or less than others thats it. Could just mention the benefits like more details this year or better low light etc.
I upgraded to the 14 Pro from an XS Max. After a while, the larger screen really started bothering me, and this feels slightly better. The camera is light years better though, but I do miss 3D/force touch. A lot.
I upgraded to a 13 pro max from an xs max last year and the 3d touch was the first thing I missed - and I still miss it. 3d touch would probably work really well with the dynamic island because there is such an immediacy to the touch that doesn't exist with the software based haptic touch.
I agree and definitely think it should come back. I have a slight feeling that a lot of people actually used and just didn’t know it had a name or knew they were using it. This is actually one of the big reasons I haven’t upgraded from my XS Max. I hate the way stuff feels on the newer iPhones when I use the cursor moving thing - it takes forever and doesn’t always work right. I used 3D Touch writing this very comment. I use it A LOT. I think USB C might be the thing that turns me to upgrade grade though…. if that ever happens. Ugh. Edit: don’t know what you had till it’s gone kind of thing - we should start a petition to bring it back, haha
The price increase is insane on these. The iPhone 14 starts at 1060 USD, and 1350 USD for the Pro here in Norway. Almost $300 up from the iPhone 13 models.

As Jerry rig everything explained, these aero space aluminium terms are actual terms for aluminium. Makes a difference. Like their glass. I recommend his tear down and scratch test.
But aren't those materials just the materials commonly used in industry. There's no regulation saying that a particular alloy needs to be used. Aerospace just implies high strength, low weight. I think surgical steel implies low corrosion.

Always On Display was first introduced in Nokia phones in 2005 and on AMOLED phones in 2010. That year I had a Samsung Omnia 7 with AMOLED screen that didn't have AOD, but maybe could have supported it. It was standard on Nokia Lumia Windows Phones as of 2013, and called Glance Screen. Samsung Galaxy didn't have this until the S7 in 2016. But it is nice to see that Apple is also finally catching up.
@@Gerard1971 You won't notice burn in of static images unless you have something displayed for a very long time, but OLED degrades over time. I've had two Lumia phones and both of them had massive shift in color after about two years (it was noticeable when comparing to a new phones).
I'm guessing the better audio on the base 14 was due to the internal redesign, maybe the plate in the middle that everything is mounted on gives more surface area for vibrations? Though on the topic of the internal redesign it is very interesting that apple didn't talk about it at all even though its the biggest change of the 14. 🤔
Maybe they didn't want to have to mention that they "saved" some space by moving to esims, and instead of using that saved space to do literally anything, they put a plastic rectangle instead. Innovation everyone.
Apple didn’t come up with the term medical grade stainless steel. Surgical stainless steel is a grade of stainless steel used in biomedical applications. The most common "surgical steels" are austenitic SAE 316 stainless and martensitic SAE 440, SAE 420, and 17-4 stainless steels.
For all the silly names, Photonic Engine and the version before it which I cant' remember the name of, they are not just HDR and a bunch of photos. It's the entire processing pipeline from sensor to file.
Surgical and Aerospace grade metals are a specific formulation so it make sense to use them. It doesn't mean all that much in the grand scheme of things but it's not much different than using 18/10 for stainless steel.
""aerospace grade"" and ""surgical"" is extremely general and ambiguous, enough to safely ignore them just as marketing fluffs. Strength-to-weight is extremely important in aerospace. Aluminium is better at it than your average iron/steel. Consequently, aluminium in general is more ""aerospace-grade"" than your average iron/steel and you could call any kind of aluminium ""aerospace-grade""
"Aerospace grade" simply means that the alloy is being used in aerospace. 6063 or 6061 which is a common affordable aluminum meets that grading, as it can be used for example in framing, or even a cabinet hinge in a commercial airliner. Don't think it means "ultra high quality"
3D touch is actually quite useful imo when you need to relocate your insertion point when typing it can act as a virtual cursor instead of having to tap in between the small text. Haptic feedbacks are definitely an improved experience, but they decided to take it away which kinda sucks.
I came here to say the same thing, even though there’s somewhat comparable features now with my newer phone I will definitely miss the 3D Touch. I didn’t realize I was going to be losing it when I upgraded my phone and I’ve been slightly bummed ever since :/
I doubt it’ll be problematic in terms of burn in, given the low intensity. Personally I’d switch it off anyway. iPhones have had very good wake on raise for years, so I don’t see always on being any advantage to me.
5:02 I don't agree with your statement. Switching SIM cards on the fly makes a HUGE difference while travelling. Buying some cheap local card is way better than paying fees to your provider. While you do get most of your data plan in across the whole EU, this no longer applies to UK for example. I can only imagine that switching e-sim will be really painful or that I'll have to carry out some QR code with me.. not really useful.
making fun of apple for the metal names was kinda weird considering those are the actual names of the metal and apple didn’t just make it up, sure they could use the exact grades but most people have no idea what that means

What do you think he's gonna say? There you go.
While that is technically true from a mechanical point of view, they are still doing all the bullshit in software from last gen, oh and some new fun ones: ua-cam.com/video/K2WhU77ihw8/v-deo.html
iPhone 14 is even less repairable than the 13. Everything is serialized. Apple really doesn't want people to repair their phones without Tim Cook's explicit approval.
When phones started there were no SIM cards. SIM cards were the result that most phones were sold vendor locked and you needed cooperation from your carrier to migrate. This the SIM card was born to spur competition phones could be unlocked by the receiving carrier when the sim is inserted into the device. Nowadays most devices are sold unlocked thus this is less of an issue, but we shall see how it develops. The obvious downside is there is no longer the ability to be completely off a cell tower if your device is on and some entities want you to be connected
Typical LTT review, quick to make judgments on new features before opening the phone to the Home Screen. The problem with the 3D Touch was that BFUs had no visual clue that they could force push on some icons and not on others. That together with the fact that devs had to create new menus and features using 3D Touch made it fail. The dynamic island is already integrated with the live activities API, so whichever app can work on the lock screen automatically works with the “island”
In a single sentence you want the headphone jack back but say sim card tray is archaic...okay. I don't know sim card tray is quite useful when travelling. Go to Japan or Korea or any country, just buy a sim card from vending machine and off you go. No need trying to going into a local phone shop and trying to speak to someone with broken English to get a sim card. Sim card tray is quite useful for a lot of people. I am sure headphone jack is too but if the sim card tray is archaic, then so is the headphone jack.
I don't understand why you would think that losing the sim card is not a huge downgrade. I don't know a huge amount about this, so I could be mistaken, but this just feels like one more hoop I have to jump through in order to move my connection between devices. Swapping my sim card to a different phone is extremely easy and has been extremely useful when I have broken my phone (also when friends have broken theirs and needed to borrow one). Am I missing something or is this only bad?
Recently, there have been a growing amount of SIM card scams involving 2FA, so this gets rid of that. It’s actually supposed to be more convenient than physical SIM cards. You can see this on the cellular iPads where you can select what carrier and plan you’d like and it’s activated right away. You can switch on the fly. For some reason, it’s not like this on iPhones and you have to scan a QR code or call to get it activated. Hopefully, they change it to be more like how the iPad works
Installing an eSIM into your phone can be as easy as scanning a QR code. You can store multiple eSIMs in your phone and you can have them ready in a backup phone, activating them from the settings. If you want to buy a plan, you don't need to visit a physical location to get your SIM. This is also true when traveling to other countries - you just buy the eSIM before you even get there. Every year we churn out billions of plastic sim cards. Getting rid of them will be a good thing.

Sorry to be that guy but its not Hert(s) [Frequency] hence its singular Hert (as you said it in the video). Its Hertz, as in H.R. hertz after whom the unit of frequency is named, hence, it will still be 1 Hertzzzzzzzzzzzz. :)
to be fair the dynamic island is not that noticeable and the you probably can see the the 2 parts inside because you have big ass lights. I can't see it on my phone.
At least for the next few years Tim Cook will be able to say 'we made the new dynamic island up to 2x darker, it's the darkest dynamic island ever in a mobile phone' and sell it as a feature whilst everything else stays the same.
I really don’t like the way Jake gave this video a negative vibe. I have absolutely nothing against the critique, because it’s fair, but the whole mood felt as if Jake was purposefully trying to pick on the phones that he clearly doesn’t like. Rough handling of the boxes was also an ick. Overall this was hard to watch.
My main issue with the SIM card removal is that carriers here in the US really enjoy charging a $30 activation fee. I have kept the exact same sim card and swapped my phones buying from Samsung and just bringing over the same sim. If I didn't do this, I would've wasted $90 is "activation fees" by now. I'd imagine the carriers will handle esim equally poorly
I upgraded from an IPhone SE (2nd gen) to a 14 pro last week and I love it some much. Its taking some getting use to but I think it was worth the price tag since my old phone sucked.
@@unauthac1193 For the mediocre performance increase, the price should be as mediocre. I bought 8T for $350, all I had to do was wait 1year. 120hz, 65watt charging, 12gb 256gb sd865. Lets see Iphone charge faster than 20 watt.
@@fynkozari9271 your comment makes no sense. There might not be a massive bump in performance between models, but that is mainly because they are already miles ahead of the competition already. Btw iPhone pro charges past 30w, it doesn’t need 12gb ram because it is more efficient.
How can you sit there and say that the SIM card should have died off long ago but then ask for the headphone jack back? Maybe I'm wrong but I found that to be an odd thing to say.
@@HugoTheWizard No, I travel a lot and don't like that freqently you need service in order to change an esim, and half the time I need to change a sim its because I don't have service. But I totally see the appeal of better water resistant phones. I can't be the only person with a sim card for each carrier. Also why are you using sms for 2fa. You should use email or even better use a physical key.
Even with physical SIMs, I’ve had to register my IMEI with them to get it to work for every carrier I’ve ever used in the US. Never been as easy as a physical SIM swap alone for me
On my XR I can switch between esim profiles in seconds by going to settings, mobile, select the number I want activated, and click on. So it’s genuinely pretty easy. Initial Setup (at least for me in australia) of the sim profiles was super easy as it was all in app from the mobile network provider, but some networks in other countries make it a pain in the ass for initial setup.
Regarding SIM cards, I just had a phone die on me and I was able to pull my SIM and put it into a backup phone while the original gets fixed. With an eSIM, that process would likely be a huge pain, especially in Canada.
Sim cards are not archaic. They may seem like it but honestly they're still the easiest way to change carriers when traveling. Some things just make sense and should be left alone.
This is not true. You have to physically visit a store and buy a SIM card. eSIM carriers can cover dozens of countries at a time and allow you to buy the eSIM plan and activate it before you're even physically in the country you're traveling to - all in a language you understand. Physical SIM cards are absolutely archaic, people think they have some advantages because they're not familiar with how eSIMs work. The only problem is that carriers didn't care enough to start supporting them earlier, even though they were introduced some 10 years ago and available on smartphones for more than 5 years now.
@@CanIHasThisName I fully understand how eSIM cards work and no, sorry, but dealing with changing my carrier via eSIM is NOT easier than simply popping in a new card.
@@beanwithbacon In the specific scenario you described, it definitely is. And in other scenarios the only way it is not easier is if you are unfamiliar with how it works.

If they insist we must use lightning could they at least update it to be USB3/4 speeds on the pro model? The old Ipad Pros before the redesign had USB 3 speed lightning. It's absurd we're still dealing with data transfer speeds from the year 2000.
My first argument would be they want you on the cloud, but then they didn't even bother to update the wifi modem to futureproof for 6 Gbps. So, it's lazy and likely stubbornness to move away from their own tech and embrace USB standards.
People keep saying how visible the cameras are, but i never see them. Only if there's a ton of light, at a specific angle. But even being out in the sun i rarely see it
But what about being able to just select the carrier and plan right in the settings on your phone? Not even having to go to the carrier store or vending machine and maybe forgetting the SIM card tool? That’s how cellular iPads work and it’s great. Why it doesn’t work like this on iPhones is pain
When you travel, you can buy an international eSIM that will cover multiple countries at a time and can be purchased before you even set foot to the country you're going to.
I feel like these days LTT aren't doing as much research for these videos as there are so many of them. For the past weeks, most i boxing videos have had atleast one instance where they say "how do I do this... Anyways"
I agree, the videos are still alright but the amount of times they make incorrect assumptions or just generally have no idea about the product they're displaying is way too high
I feel like the android fanboi is strong with Jake. The reason the island still has to be there is because it’s more than just a bloody camera. There is a) the selfie camera; b) ambient light sensor; c) speaker; d) microphone; e) proximity sensor; f) flood illuminator; g) dot projector; and h) infrared camera. All of this is needed to make Face ID work. I feel like he’s missing this point.
Exactly. There’s a reason iPhones have the most secure face authentication of most modern phones, and the hardware they use for this can’t just be placed under the screen like even some cameras can be. I personally admire the move to hide a hardware cutout under software and consider it innovative, although I am *almost* an apple fanboy at this point (although I am also a phone tech, so I appreciate the hardware).
iPhone 4 was the og plans that leaked for it but that’s obviously not what happened. Though I think they may push that for next year personally. Though the small round volume buttons might be annoying to get at now
It does share something with the iPhone 4. The glass-metal-glass sandwich design with the sharp edges is somewhat unique to the 4, and I can see the similarities. But yeah, I'll take a volume rocker over those twiddly buttons any day now. They were usable on the small 4, but I couldn't imagine them being used on modern phones.
Aren’t they cropping in on the larger sensor for action mode? Not trying to make any apologies here but I think having the new larger sensor, they’re probably able to crop in a bit without the image becoming too crappy
Like I said in the comments of previous videos, the only thing that’s enticing for me with this iPhone is the Dynamic Island. Otherwise, my iPhone 12 should be more than enough for another year (especially with USB-C being rumored for 2023).

I like having a SIM card. It lets me quickly setup a new phone without talking to a carrier or going through a website. Just pop in the SIM card, and get instant voice and data.
And far from a very accurate review. More like a video in which a pointless dig is made at every new feature on the pro and the lack of those same features on the base
As much as d brand is fun, I think that with new colors it's better to review the phones without a skin. I mean, ya'll got the purple one, which is the new color.
Esim has me worried mostly with how they will probably find a way to charge you money to do things with them now. Verizon charges like $30 to "activate" a regular sim card and I am imagining Apple adding a one time fee for switching phones or upgrading to another iphone. Once things move from physical to digital they usually find some way to fuck you
I think my iPhone 12 Pro was the first phone to use the eSim and having switched to the 13 and 14 now, haven’t been charged any fee. Haven’t tried switching carriers tho
Sim Card is a thing of the past, agreed! But eSim has its own flaws. Mostly when you travel abroad and want to use a different number and not the existing number. Just buying a new sim at the airport and start using it as soon as you reach a new international destination is just so easy. Whereas setting up eSim is a pain, also you need internet to setup new eSim, so incase of traveling abroad without data one is pretty much screwed
Tried a 14 pro, the battery life is noticeably less compared to a 13 pro for whatever reason. One of the "big" new things in the 14 is the satellite SOS system, pretty big deal for those of us that go into the wilderness. Surprised they didn't mention that.
I was genuinely excited to see the first impression and then the host came in with so much bias before even giving the phone a chance. Almost defeats the purpose of having a first impression.
This is probably one of the worst first impressions that I’ve seen from you guys in a while. Didn’t really provide much useful information and instead filled with a bunch of jabs against apple. Some jabs brought up valid points, but most seemed unnecessary. Jake also seemed unprepared to be presenting this video. Should have had someone else host.
The unprepared is what I noticed. Several of the things said or complained about just contained incorrect info but meh, whatever. Apple isn't really their thing.
Couldn’t agree more. Dude was comparing the notch to the island when the phone was locked, which actually has a wider island to house the lock/unlock icon. To have such a smug attitude when they don’t even understand basic features just makes them come off like a huge asshole. I expect better from LTT.
Fair points, but this is an iterative release and is basically the same as previous years. He is viewing it from a base level user perspective. None of the new features do anything beyond power users and cool points.
Came from a 12 pro max to a 14 pro max worlds of difference. Very happy with my upgrade. Tempted to go to Canada now and buy another one and sell off my us phone but that's my only regret so far!

I upgraded to a 13 pro max from an xs max last year and the 3d touch was the first thing I missed - and I still miss it. 3d touch would probably work really well with the dynamic island because there is such an immediacy to the touch that doesn't exist with the software based haptic touch.

When phones started there were no SIM cards. SIM cards were the result that most phones were sold vendor locked and you needed cooperation from your carrier to migrate. Nowadays most devices are sold unlocked thus this is less of an issue, but we shall see how it develops.
The obvious downside is there is no longer the ability to be completely off a cell tower if your device is on and some entities want you to be connected

the dynamic island is smaller than the notch, and it was pretty draining to hear Jakes pompous, apple hating attitude during this video.
Tech Tip: It is pronounced 1 Hertz or 1 Hz. Yes, even when it's used to refer to a singular unit of frequency, it was named after a physicist, Heinrich Hertz.
The problem with the 3D Touch was that BFUs had no visual clue that they could force push on some icons and not on others. That together with the fact that devs had to create new menus and features using 3D Touch made it fail.

But what about being able to just select the carrier and plan right in the settings on your phone? Not even having to go to the carrier store or vending machine and maybe forgetting the SIM card tool? That’s how cellular iPads work and it’s great. Why it doesn’t work like this on iPhones is pain

I like having a SIM card. It lets me quickly setup a new phone without talking to a carrier or going through a website. Just pop in the SIM card, and get instant voice and data.
i like how they say these aren't reviews but then proceeds to tell us if we should buy it or not.. what happened to initial impressions lol
And far from a very accurate review. More like a video in which a pointless dig is made at every new feature on the pro and the lack of those same features on the base
Yeah it’s a little odd. And the iPhone cynicism is as well.
They can’t help themselves.
The initial impression is don't buy it, or do buy, or maybe buy it. That's my impression ;)
Marques does this. His videos are pretty good for first impressions and then final reviews
I detest apple for starting the no charger in the box trend
As much as d brand is fun, I think that with new colors it's better to review the phones without a skin. I mean, ya'll got the purple one, which is the new color.
Pretty sure ‘Aerospace Grade’ is an industry term and not marketing lingo used by Apple
Probably because it’s a very niche feature, for the majority of people they will never use it
No power brick because "everyone already has a power brick" and makes the cable USB-C so it is incompatible with all those bricks we already have.
I was genuinely excited to see the first impression and then the host came in with so much bias before even giving the phone a chance. Almost defeats the purpose of having a first impression.
Everyone:"Remove the NOTCH, Apple!"
Apple:"Alright.."
Also Apple: Proceeds to put a whole island into the screen
This is probably one of the worst first impressions that I’ve seen from you guys in a while. Didn’t really provide much useful information and instead filled with a bunch of jabs against apple. Some jabs brought up valid points, but most seemed unnecessary. Jake also seemed unprepared to be presenting this video. Should have had someone else host.
Yeah, I mean what actually is this video?
“Just crap on Apple for 10 mins and we got a video.”
The unprepared is what I noticed. Several of the things said or complained about just contained incorrect info but meh, whatever. Apple isn't really their thing.
What did they get wrong? What did they not showcase? What else would you want from them?
Couldn’t agree more. Dude was comparing the notch to the island when the phone was locked, which actually has a wider island to house the lock/unlock icon.
To have such a smug attitude when they don’t even understand basic features just makes them come off like a huge asshole. I expect better from LTT.
Fair points, but this is an iterative release and is basically the same as previous years. He is viewing it from a base level user perspective. None of the new features do anything beyond power users and cool points.
The camera really isn’t that noticeable, I have the 14 pro max and all this hate on the camera cut out being obvious is just exaggeration
Came from a 12 pro max to a 14 pro max worlds of difference. Very happy with my upgrade. Tempted to go to Canada now and buy another one and sell off my us phone but that's my only regret so far!
It is hertz (Hz), regardless of the plurality.
Curious to see what your thoughts are on the S22 ultra when UI 5 is released next month. Apparently it's going to fix a lot of camera issues including HDR pictures, video and lowlight.
Have those ever been a problem?
@@abdullahisanidodo2876 Camera HDR issue was present. The sky looked bright cyan in photos. Also the animations are dogshit in one UI 5. Even Chinese phones have better animations.
@@abdullahisanidodo2876 well.. some people have been having problems but apparently they're going to optimize some stuff to make it look even better like shutter speed and stuff.
@@Chopper153I'm not talking about coloring in pictures.. more so sharpness and contrast.. also you'll probably have the option to change animations.. but never heard anyone refer to phone animations as dog shit... Who hurt you?..
Surgical stainless steel and aerospace grade aluminum are actual technical terms, unlike Samsung's "armor aluminum", I don't expect much from you guys but at least do SOME research.
I am pretty excited to use the "dynamic island" feature, it's always pretty bothersome to swipe up or down just to switch a song or to stop a screen recording
Pleas fix the shaking of the top camera guys!
I think it's the table that's shaking, but either way it's quite annoying, hope we can get a bugfix on that :)
Got my 14 pro yesterday and im in the US. Upgraded from a base storage iPhone 11 I’ve had for 3 years. The e sim was actually pretty seamless to set up, but I am on Verizon who is one of the big 3 carriers. It automatically set up when I held my old iPhone next to it and prompted me to activate my e sim. Was a worthy upgrade from the 11 I am enjoying it.
Just switched to Verizon and waiting for my 14 Pro to get delivered. How has it been on Verizon with the recent change to 3 year contracts? Never financed a phone that long lol
Uh why the hate against sim cards? When I was in japan I just got a sim card at the airport. It worked better than the pocket wifi we used on a previous trip.
That HDR photo thing is a great idea, worked really well on my Galaxy S7 back in the day.
I really don't get y everyone is making a big deal over the 14 looking similar to the 13, Apple has been doing this, 4/4s, 5/5s, 6/6s, x/xs, 3g/3gs. It's laughable that u guys think Apple has to come up with a new design every year, that would be impossible. Look at the Samsung s21/s22 can anyone tell the difference? We all need to be content with the fact that we have reached peak smartphone and until a new revolutionary techology appears we won't see any crazy design changes every year.
