Which Pedal did you Pick?:
KLON = RED
KLONE = GREEN
Thanks for Playing Along!
Red sound more open and much more dynamic.
N Stuff Music I picked the green. Just better tone to my ear. More character to it. The red sounds about like a Super Overdrive, which is nice, but the Boss is about $50. 😆✌️
I'd take a Tumnus over either. Klon has limited bottom end. By itself, it's not much at all.
Awesome! I liked the cheap one.
@@pcollenyt3683 the Tumnus definitely sound good, especially in a cleaner amp or maybe with single coils, but the Klon will stack better with an amp that is hotter, precisely because it tightens the low end and gives a little mid spike. Like with anything, it really depends on the application. The Klon will be puncher though, either way.
Given the price difference and the 99% equal tone,I'd say Soul Food it's a winner all the way.
@Infinite Revery Sure, you go buy that crap, for 10 bucks difference I'll keep the real thing 😉
@Infinite Revery Stuff on the Tube it's not like trying it yourself, you may have nasty surprises but then do what you please, I'll stick with the Soul Food (I've tried several "diy" Klon copies....terrible stuff)
@Infinite Revery Well as you know we don't perceive frequencies in the same way, everyone has his own ears. To me the SF seems pretty well balanced and absolutely not that midrangey but as I said above we all have different sensibilities. 😉
They both sound great and very much the same. Soul Food wins for producing for the masses. $1500. vs $79. Mama didn't raise no fool, Get a Soul Food!
1500? youd be hard pressed to find any klon below $3300
@@aidanbach2524 Anyone who would pay $3300 for an effects pedal is a FOOL!
I literally couldn’t tell a difference so soul food it is.
The green sounds greener and the red a little bit more red but I don’t know , maybe I’m confused because your shirt is also green. The thing is both sounded exactly like a boss metal zone .
duh. everybody knows that when Boss created the metal zone, the boss of Boss wanted them to create a pedal that sounded green
In this video, for the position of the vol, tone and drive controls used (?), I hear (*) the red (KLON) with more mid-bass and more drive than the green (Soul Food). (*) My monitors are two 15" boxes!
I'm listening though a good pair of Parrot V3 headphones, bluetoothed to my PC, and I really couldn't tell any difference between the two. In a live gig situation, either one would do the trick.
This is the third video I've seen where the Klon goes head-to-head with the Soul Food. I'm always amazed at how closely they sound against each other. How much longer are buyers going to continue to pay stupid-expensive prices for Klons when they can get a Soul Food for just $79? I love my Soul Food. God Bless Mike Matthews and EHX!
Fender Bender hahaha they do not sound that similar. Klon has a bite that soul food lacks.
I would say very few are paying for a real Klon....so who really cares and who is the high price really hurting ?
@@dbo4506 No, they are very similar. And more bite can be dialed in.
The longer they do, the longer we can keep getting it for 79$ lol
Anything that the Soul Food might be lacking can damn sure be dialed in with a run of the mill EQ pedal. One of my buddies has a Klon KTR. Same exact circuit as the Centaur with the added option of true bypass (which definitely sounds a little bit “meh”). We A/B’d his KTR with his son’s Soulfood and a Berhinger EQ pedal through a JHS A/B and we were able to nail the KTR’s tone to the wall through a pair of Deluxe Reverbs.
A lot of these comparison videos test the effects head to head with the exact same settings. As long as you’re willing to turn a knob a couple millimeters one way or the other, you can come a lot closer in person.
I won’t even get into the Wampler Tumnus vs the Klon. Unless you’re a top tier session musician or have Eric Johnson’s ears and can tell the difference between the brand of batteries in your vintage Arbiter Fuzz Face, you will not be able to discern any difference between a Klon or the Tumnus, especially in a mix and especially at live gig volume. Hell, even the guy who built the Centaurs says the prices their fetching these days is borderline retarded. It’s a great OD for sure, but it’s garnered this reputation among the cork sniffers of the guitar community and there it shall remain for no logical reason.
They both sound the same through a Peavey Bandit. 😁
The red sounded a little warmer than Green. But not enough to justify its price. Soul Food for me.
Was really hoping the Soul Food was Red. Darn it
Holy shizzles they both really really sounded identical to me damn. Great video the best one so far on Klon vs Klone pedal so far.
I'm partial to Green so I want the one that helps me keep mo-of-it. Both great sounding pedals.
It would help to see the control setting for each.
Klon’s mids sounded slightly harsher than the Soul Foods but other than that I really couldn’t see a difference. Soul Food clear winner because of the price
Can't tell which pedal you're playing?
Red = Germanium, Green = Silicon (I g'ed to know that EHX uses Shottky diodes, but soundwise they're still Si diodes with more compression).
At $5K for the Klon, one would pay not for the incrementally better sound quality (and it does sound better), but to own a piece of music history. It is not unlike dropping $200K for a Dumble amp. I'll forego the worry of owning a $5K museum piece, use the $50 Soul Food, and keep the $5K in my pocket.
The Red One!
I like the red more as used in thimese clips. I know it's the Klon. I'm a metal guy too. I have the EHX. Works nicely for what I use it for.. A clean boost into high gain. Max out the volume, keep the tone at noon (or max 1 o'clock, depending on the amp and the cmfain setting (with gain on zero, I turn the tone up a notch and with gainanywhere above 0, I move the tone gkoser to noon) , and then for the gain, it's on zero, or turn it up a notch or too not for more grit, but because it tightens the low end a bit.. So not enough to give it much distortion at all.. But just enough to cut the lows a bit. I think the gain on zero turns it into a clean boost right? The gain circuit actually cuts low end, so basically I just find the right balance with the amp to clean some mud if I need to.
I'm going to get A Decibelics kline next to see how I like that, and then I'm pretty much done with getting any more Klons I suppose.
I like EHX company. Soul Food is nice but Real Klon is awesome. Fuller and much dynamics
What song at 1:57 ??
They progress much with some amp dirt !
I like the red, and I hope that is the soul food :)
You'll just have to wait and see!
they both sound equally good, just different. i kind of prefer the green.
On this I would by the Soul Food.. 👍🇦🇺
I guessed that the green was the Klon. Which pleased me no end, as I have a Soulfood and could never justify paying 2 or 3 grand for one pedal. Especially when it would take up about a quarter of my pedal board.
Had to listen three times to work out the lights system and then I still couldn't tell any difference.
I had Chris our camera guy have me close my eyes and guess with each pedal, I was wrong every time.
Not just me then. Good to know---thanks!
Holy cow the Klon got clobbered by the Klone!! Just my opinion.
Totally agree.
I couldn't tell a difference until I put on head phones but I thought the red one sounded better. Someone else already mentioned it but it sounded much more tube like, open and spacious. I was really hoping it was the soul food.
Green is slightly more compressed but sounds close
1:56 aww I was expecting long train runnin' by the Doobie Brothers
Hahaha I fooled ya!
Ha ha... I heard it and decided to play it on Spotify while reading the comments. Now listening to the rest of the play list... . Timeless!!!
The red (Klon) sounded a little hotter. I liked it better on the bridge pickup. The green (clone) sounded more clear on the neck pickup. But I can’t help but think the clone would sound nearly identical if the gain was boosted just a hair.
It sodwsnt compress as smoothly. I still love the EHX though.
Prefer the sound of the Green A/B selection. The Red sounded slightly harsher.
Check back soon for the results posted here by N Stuff!
Me too
Too similar to make a difference. Both sound great! Slightly different sound.
Green light. Seemed more open, not as harsh and didn’t mush out on the lower strings.
Green light is the Klon or soul food in your opinion?
N Stuff Music green is Klon, in my opinion.
Check back and we'll release the results my friend!
Green, thought it had slightly, slightly better harmonics. Or ones I preferred anyway.
Electro Harmonix Dunlop and Fulltone are the only way to go I will use nothing else
I was going to say Green was the Klon, because it seemed to have a little more compression and little more bass. I was wrong.
Yeah, green did sound a little better, what a shame for the centaur😂
Green
Grass
green
Hmmmm with the money you save buying the soulfood you can buy a tuner now.🤔💥🤯🌈
green light
Andre 3000 and John Legend!
soul food more organic and ir breaths..more real
TC Electronic Zeus , another cheapo that's top
EHX Soul food by a country mile
It would help if you tuned the guitar
There was no question that the red was the Klon; it just had a creamy smoothness lacking in the Soul Food. That said, the Soul Food still sounds good, and given the price difference, I know which one I’d buy 😉👍.
The Soul Food is a reasonable boost. But it's not as good as an overdrive pedal. The gain structure isn't pleasant (my opinion) and the bottom-end loss (which is tough to deny) is worse than most other O/D pedals. I have found that it can stack pretty well with other O/Ds and distortions - but, mostly, it's just a decent boost pedal.
With the gain on zero there is little to no bottom end loss.. It's just wen you move the gain control, because that's what the overdrive circuit does.. It effectively cuts lows and boosts high mids... Presumably so as to go into an already overdriven amp and not get muddy.
The Tumnus has more low end, but softer high mids, so it might work Jocelyn on a clean channel, but won't cut through as much when and amp already has some crunch.
I hear very LITTLE difference betwixt the two pedals!
Green sounded slightly more "forward", to me.
Not that Red was muffled.
Which do you think is which?
green=soul food
check back for the results to see for yourself
Green is Soul Food. I know because I have one. I know what it sounds like when the tone knob is turned past 1 o'clock.I can be wrong too, so who knows.
You'll just have to wait and see the results;)
Huh. I like the red, but I like my OCD V1.1 better!
Fair enough haha
soul food sounds better with holy grail max.
Liked red one much better. Sounds more tube amp like, better touch sensitivity/ dynamic range. I think the player likes it better too by the way he plays it.
I swear I was unbiased! haha
Even if the pedals were identical, his playing is always going to sound a little different each time. Nonetheless, he gets a great sound out of both.
You can still tell the difference. The Klon always ahs a smoother gain that is more together. I have the EXH and love it though.
Red sounded better. Maybe an EQ pedal could more closely dial the Green one.
6 = half dozen. Buy the Soul Food and , if you don't like it, find a Klon to buy. Your money...
Or get the ceriatone or KTD
Green is Klon
clearer articulation
Check back when we upload the results!
Red - more clarity
Green sounds like the minotaur in my Helix, not a fan, EP booster for me.
Not much in it green sounded slightly better but not enough to matter
I've owned a real KLON since 1998. It was stolen and recovered about 15 years ago. I gig with the Soul Food now for obvious reasons...but it also sounds almost exactly the same as the real thing with simple eq tweeks. You'll need to stop equating the sound of the KLON in any reference to it's current collector value. There's no connection whatsoever .
Too close to call
There's no doubt that it is really difficult to tell the difference, if any...
N Stuff Music i have soul food
Nice! The soul food is a great pedal, tons of value.
Klon has a little more grit at low gain settings, which I like. BUT - there's no way I'm going to pay $2K for that tiny difference! I own the Soul Food and love it.
$2K? More like $10K…
Just to point out, tests involving red and green LEDs mean nothing to a large percentage of males who are red/green color blind. What we think is red or green might not actually be correct, so the opinions expressed are suspect.
The first pedal you heard was the "red" channel. And they alternate from there....
View it with a friend
i dont like either...sounds like a wet sponge
Too many sounds and styles with each pedal. Do one thing and make a direct comparison.
Sorry but this is one of the worst comparison videos I have seen...I know what you are trying to get from the watchers but as far as a comparison, uhh no!
Green
You'll just have to wait and see in the resuilts!
