Thanks for the great video. Went out today and performed this filter and separator replacement on my Ram 2500 without a flaw!! So easy thanks to this video and I saved hundreds of $$$'s over the dealer! Thanks again.
The dealer price for this 20 minute job is a complete rip off. Why they want $200 for the filters at their parts counter when they are 1/2 that price on Amazon is a mystery to me.
Thanks for the great video gentlemen!!! I purchased my first Diesel last year, a 2017 Ram Laramie 3500 single axle. I was very hesitant at first but know I absolutely love it!!! I took it in for the first oil change around 13k and according to the computer it still had about 20% more life in it. I have read where the recommended life is approximately 12,500 miles between oil changes. The local dealership insists on changing the oil every 5k miles. But of course the collect 3X as much $$$ by recommending this. They also checked my Fuel Filter gauge which was reading 10% life remaining and recommended charging me $300 to replace them. What a Gimmick!!! Heck I would change these two filters myself all day long at $300 for the pair!!! I could easily do 3-4 pair per hour! A quick run up to Autozone this morning and I picked up both required filters for $90 plus tax. It took me an hour to change the filters. This was including the time it took me to gather the tools required, watch your video (basically twice) and read all the comments. Complete piece of cake. The only issue was spilling a little diesel fuel in the process. I really appreciate you taking the time to walk us through this, it made the process super simple. The Dealerships are ripping the customers off, they should be ashamed!!! I am tired of taking my vehicles to the dealerships. The last time I took in a 2014 Pathfinder, the dealership came up with $2000 in repairs, $300 just because the battery had some corrosion on it. I purchased all of the required parts from autozone and replaced them all myself for less than $300. I also took in my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 for the airbag recall. When I left I had a quote for “needed repairs” totaling $4500. Funny thing is the dealership didn’t even want to give me $4500 for trade in when I purchased the new truck. The quote even recommended 3 new tires even though the current tires have over 50% tread left on them compared to the brand new 4th tire that had just been put on the day before I dropped the truck off. Again Autozone and less than $500 later I have all the necessary parts to do all of the repairs myself. Not to mention I’m 100% positive that once I would have paid the dealership the $4500 for the repairs, I would have left with another quote of “needed repairs” for another several thousand dollars. These charges by the dealerships are uncalled for and they are just taking advantage of unexpecting customers. Thanks again for sharing and empowering the general public to take things into their own hands. Keep up the great work!
I just changed mine in my 2015 2500. The neck of the filter is more narrow at the bottom by the sensor and I was able to get a oil filter clamp around the filter after I disconnected the plug. I used the same wrench to hold the filter while I removed the sensor with Channel Lock pliers. I did clean the plug with contact cleaner before reassembly( we don't live in California and it was covered in Rust Proofing). All went back together fairly easily and I would say this was a 30 minute job. Leak check at the end and I needed to reset the Engine light. One more job done. Oh yah, I talked to the original owner and this filter was never changed. 171,000 kms on the truck.
Just wanted to say thank you. I used the information provided in this video to change the fuel filter and fuel/water filter on my new Ram 2500 and it was a piece of cake. Hard to believe that dealerships locally wanted $300 for that service.
Just did mine today. Very easy. Next time will be much faster. Thank you for the video. Wrench on nut on rear filter in video showed that removing the filter, that will just remove the sensor, I had to grab above that to turn filter.
Great video, dealers been after me to change the fuel filters and I asked how much. $400.00 after $100.00 for oil service. Couldn"t bring myself to do it. Watched you vid and will be after it myself. Worked on gas stuff all my life, diesels are a different animal to me.lol. Thanks again.
thank you! great video. I used to change the fuel filter in my old 1996 12valve Cummins, but the new truck...I was feeling intimidated. As expensive and beautiful as the new one is...I feared I might not be up to the task on a new fangled super machine. I feel confident now I can handle it.
If anyone else wonders, the fuel/water (rear) filter drain uses a 3/8" ID tube. If you want to extend the one on the front either replace it entirely with new 1/2" ID tubing or use a piece of 3/4" ID tubing slid over the end of it to temporarily extend it into a drain pain or bottle. An old piece of garden hose cut to fit works just fine.
Just changed my fuel filters following these steps and noticed about a 30% decrease in MPG develop over about 100 miles of driving. I’ve checked and can’t find any leaks around the filters. Any other reasons this would happen from changing fuel filters?
@Mark Ray thank you for pointing the fact numerous errors were shown! Number 1: *use a strap wrench to remove the rear filter not a water pump plier on the WIF sensor* Number 2: *lube the o-rings* Number 3: *use the correct 28 mm socket on the underhood filter housing cover* Number 4: *use a torque wrench to tighten the filter housing cover* (the proper torque value is molded into the housing cover) Lisle makes the proper wrench for the WIF sensor by the way!
I mean the dealer is going to look for any excuse to not fulfill a warranty. But I think you are safe doing this if you use factory replacement parts. Thanks for watching!
do you recommend doing this when the tank is near empty? How much excess diesel fuel actually leaks out? If I have a full tank do i need to worry about a ton draining out?
Thank you, for your video, it has been really helpful. I live in Canada and Dodge cost 800$. You have helped me save a lot of money. I have one question, do you have a video or can you tell me what liquids did you use in this video? I really want to know if i'm using the right liquids. (Oil change, OEM, ect.) Thank You
You still have to prime it. With a push button start just don’t step on the break pedal when you push the button and it will go to accessory then press again and it will go to run without starting. I did that 4 times and it didn’t turn over do I did it two more times and started right up.
Finally a video that’s straight to the point, step by step, and not filled with 11 minutes of monologue.. 👍
I like getting straight to the point! Thanks for watching!
Right?! I think most of those other guys just like listening to themselves talk

Great to hear, we are here to help, please subscribe!
I just got quote $350 at Farrish Dodge Jeep in VA. I found the filter kit for around $90 on Amazon. This video saved me $260
Awesome!

Thank you for watching! You get what were are trying to do here thank you so much! :)
You legend! This was exactly the knowledge I needed. Even used the hose idea to try and keep some of it off my exhaust.
Right on! Thanks for watching!
I love the way he has his left arm next to the engine block when he’s loosening the cap....that’s a really easy thing to do

Thanks for the info. Just did my first fuel filter change on my 2015 Ram 2500 6.7 and this was spot on. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching!

Awesome, we love to hear that! Thank you so much for watching!
I wish I would've watched this video before taking her to the dealer... They charged me $300 for fuel filter replacement! Outrageous!
Ouch! That is a lot. Well next time we got you! Thank you for watching!

No problem! Thank you so much for watching!
2CarPros fuel filter for 2007 dodge 1500 hemi
It is my opinion that the wrench you used to remove the sensor from the old filter was not nearly large enough ☺
I know right?
All joking aside, I appreciate the time and attention to detail you put into this video, now I am not as worried about screwing this up on my new RAM.
Good to hear, we try to make the best quality videos
What size socket?
What size socket?
The best video I seen so far!
Thank you
Is there possibly another area around front fuel filter housing where a leak would come from?
Hey, thanks for the video. What size is the tubing you used for draining the rear filter?
If anyone else wonders, the fuel/water (rear) filter drain uses a 3/8" ID tube. If you want to extend the one on the front either replace it entirely with new 1/2" ID tubing or use a piece of 3/4" ID tubing slid over the end of it to temporarily extend it into a drain pain or bottle. I'm curious does it also appear on gas engine two like the 5.7 and the 6.4?
Nope. Different setup. Thanks for watching!

Before you install the o rings on both filters , do you need to lube them with oil or diesel fuel?
@Mark Ray thank you for pointing the fact numerous errors were shown! Will it void warranty if you change fuel filters yourself instead of dealership?
I mean the dealer is going to look for any excuse to not fulfill a warranty. But I think you are safe doing this if you use factory replacement parts. Thanks for watching!
How do you do the restet with a push button start?... the same just not turn it over?
Yeah just don't put your foot on the brake and it won't start. Thanks for watching!
do you recommend doing this when the tank is near empty? How much excess diesel fuel actually leaks out? If I have a full tank do i need to worry about a ton draining out?
Not a ton of fuel leaks out due to the pump being off. Thanks for watching!
Is there anything you would inspect while underneath changing fuel filter?? any other part of the fuel system?
on the second filter do one drain the fuel out or just unscrew the filter out
Best info on filter change :-)
So kind! Thanks for watching!
What type of sensor is that on the rear fuel filter?
Water fuel separator
What size hose do you use on the rear fuel drain?
3/8" tubing for the rear and 1/2" for the front, although I don't know if that 1/2" hose fits over the factory hose or replaces it.
Great info, Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Great video thanks a lot
Thanks for watching!
Isn't there a way to drain the rear filter before removing it?
What size socket did you use for the front filter cap
1 and 1/8th inch
or 28mm
Thanks brother
Why do videos not show location?
*my top filter has like a black cap with a handle and don't know how to remove it*
Thank you, for your video, it has been really helpful. I live in Canada and Dodge cost 800$. You have helped me save a lot of money. I have one question, do you have a video or can you tell me what liquids did you use in this video? I really want to know if i'm using the right liquids. (Oil change, OEM, ect.) Thank You
how often do you change fuel filter?
Every 30K miles is generally a good idea for preventive maintenance reasons. But double check your vehicles manual to be sure.
+2CarPros thank you! very helpful video.
Thank you for watching!
There is a reading he computer will give you on when it needs to be changed.
+2CarPros I'm not sure if my will do that. it's 2011 3500 basic package
I am guessing this is the same on a 2015 3500 SRW Mega Cab as well?
It sure is. Thanks for watching!
I also replace the rear filter first.
Nice!
Good video
SO MUCH easier than my old 6.4 powerstroke. Such a pain...
This is really easy for fuel filters. Thanks for watching!
Nice Job!
Thank you for watching!
The fuel filters do not match for underneath the hood. The OEM one has the green filter.
You don’t need to buy oem
I have a 2016 Ram Cummins and my filter is on passenger side. Why?
The oil filter is on the passenger side, are you sure it’s the fuel filter you’re looking at?
Why would Chrysler put the filter right above the drive shaft so fuel runs all over it.
Just the way it is. Thanks for watching!
To prevent rust
I called the dealer and they want $280 to change both gas filters : (
Do it yourself, saves you money plus its done right!
I have to have this done by my dealer for my Warrenty and I'm not happy about them messing with my new truck😡
No you don't and if they are telling you that they are lying. Look up the Moss-Magnuson Act: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act
No you don't and if they are telling you that they are lying. Look up the Moss-Magnuson Act: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson%E2%80%93Moss_Warranty_Act
what about a 2016 push button start ever thing else is the same how do you suggest to remove the air?
The air removes instantly because it is a return system.
So, you don't need to prime the filters prior to starting? I too have a push button start, no key to turn to accessory!!
Nope, because it is a return system.
so this system doesn't have to be prime
You still have to prime it. With a push button start just don’t step on the break pedal when you push the button and it will go to accessory then press again and it will go to run without starting. I did that 4 times and it didn’t turn over do I did it two more times and started right up.
nothing like putting new o rings on dirty table or floor whatever it was before installing them.
How do I reset the fuel filter light if I have a 2013 push start ram 2500?
Great video but your background music is absolutely annoying!!! It would be much better without it.
Noted!
Still way too long like I'm in school or something. I mean move along quicker. Had to double tap 20 times
Too many damn ads.
Ads keep the internet alive and not a subscription based service. Thanks for watching!
What size socket is used to remove the fuel filter in the engine compartment?
28mm
I also have a 2016 dodge push start button. Do I need to by a mopar filter?
