Everyone is saying just buy a scatpack but he clearly went thru the other differences and said “if you already bought a 5.7 RT” I own both by the way. 6.4 SRT and 5.7 Great video!!
All the people saying to just buy a scatpack for the money are missing the point of being a car enthusiast. It’s about individuality. There are a million stock scats, stock hellcats, stock RTs, and they’re a dime a dozen. I’d rather continue to build my car and have it be exactly what I want it to be. Very informative video as always, lots of good knowledge!
I truly agree with every word you have spoken. These people who are saying just buy a scatpack probably do not know the difference in a socket versus a wrench; intake versus exhaust; hp versus torque.
I have a 5.7 Chally and am a lifelong car enthusiast. I looked at modifying my car and came to the following conclusions: 1) I would spend as much or more as if I just bought a 6.4. 2) the resulting car would not be as cohesive, or as well thought out, as the 6.4. 3) your typical shop would be reluctant to work on it. I ended up keeping mine stock and continued to mid my other rides, where my work and $ would result in an improved vehicle.
After doing every bolt on, cam, long tubes, etc. I have to say - in order to get to 392 power level you need either stroker or forced air. The displacement difference is big. Love my R/T though - wouldn't have done it any other way. Great video man & much respect to all mopars out there.
BTW I'm just referring to HP - I've seen 5.7L builds with converters, higher gears etc. making far less power than a 392 but putting up similar 1/4 mile times.
Boost it, DONE. Mine made +800 HP per 1/4 mile time and 1/4 mile MPH @ TX2K. Want to go fast just boost it. After all my upgrades 3 things stand out. Ported intake, E85, and BOOST. Have BMason design you a cam and port your intake and then put together a budget turbo set up. Although mine is a built engine i did over 600 on the stock bottom end without even ring gap. Its all like the LS stuff to my opinion. Just boost it and be done. If you want to make big power, forged pistons and rods and stud it and be done. Yes more expensive than a 6.4 but makes big reliable lower!
DoctorDifferential & SpeedShop what did you do to safely run e85? Did you buy a kit? My 5.7 is currently at a shop, building a 392 stroker with forged pistons, rods, and crankshaft, and at the same time dropping in a boost cam. Going to be buying a whipple in the near future and also want to run e85.
I wondered just how close you could get by keeping it N/A without going stroker. The R/T is still a great package 👍.. I enjoy your channel as well my friend .. keep it up
Sweet video! I went with the 5.7 because it's my first v8 and I didn't want to break the bank. Now that I have this thing I'm hooked and will definitely look into some mods for it. I plan to keep my 5.7 as well because its an underdog. I feel with the right amount of love and care you can really maximize the potential it has.
Honest to god you went with the better option due to the engine. The 6.4 doesn’t like boost but the 5.7 you could boost all day. I’ve seen some nasty procharged and twin turbo RTs and theyre bonkers. I’d get one over a scat pack just for the mod ability alone
I’m with R/T Life. I’ve done every bolt on (depending on your definition of bolt on) and did the converter. With that, I am running very close to stock Scat times. 3.6 0-60 and 11.8 in the 1/4 mile. My next mod is ported heads and the suspension which should push me over the edge. Yes, the non forced induction route is expensive but it’s not about money for most of us 5.7 molders. It’s about taking the 5.7 to its limits (read sleeper so to speak). Yes, with the costs of the mods you could just get a Scat but personally, I have had an awesome time modding my 5.7 over the last 3+ years. Built vs bought. It’s a personal preference and decision. Enjoyed the video keep the great content coming.
LOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHA stock scats absolutely ARE NOT sub 12 second cars.....NO.......WAY lololol....unless you're talking with DRs then yes cuz i believe you're still stock even with DRs
Well said. I have a Challenger R/T and wanted just wanted a little edge over stock. A few tweaks and it’s what I want. 356 and 395 tq to the wheels mates to a 6m/Barton shifter. Perfection for me.
Shoot you running 11.8 in 1/4 mile you beating most stock Scatpacks easily. Most of them run mid to low 12's at best trapping up to 115-116. Lol i ran 11.8 stock in my C7 Z51 A8 so your R/T jumped up pretty good
Aloha Buddy, so I’m finally a MOPAR family owner now. I came from just being a subscriber to watching you channel to now owning my 1st Dodge Charger Daytona. 5.7L. I was excited to hit you up and share the good news. My fiancé was telling me last night I didn’t stop smiling the whole night driving home. So HAPPY to begin this journey. This video will be the first thing I’ll mod the car to do. Thanks for being an influence. Henry from Honolulu.
To anyone that owns a 5.7 hemi don’t feel bad because 6.4, modern 5.0, and LS 6.2 rule the streets, 5.7 is older than all those engines, gun for 5.7 gto 4.6 mustang , then tarus sho , Chevy ss and 6.1 hemi. The 5.7 hemi isn’t bad just outdated. And that’s no buyers fault. No what you have and enjoy it.
You were exactly right about changing the throttle body and the air intake and exhaust manifold I've done all three of those and that 57 that I got is badass
RT $36640 payment $615/mo Scat $45430 payment $763/mo Hellcat $76175 payment $1279/mo All 2020 prices with 10% down over 60/mo and keep in mind the insurance increases as price does also. At the end of the day $ is what determines what you buy.
i got r/t its a practical daily driver that sounds good . of course you always want more...but 10k for 100 more horses that you can barely use in a congested city like Dallas not worth it to me at this point
@@caseycrank5607 I like the GT; my sons have them (2). But the piston slap and transmission problems kept me away. I think the TR6060 is a much better transmission and Ford should have put them in the GT. It's a shame that you have to get a 2020 GT 500 to get a good transmission.
Get a used sportbike like a R1 or GSXR1000 and be able to smoke 95% of the cars you see on the street. Performance to price motorcycles are the best bang for your buck.
Option 3. You can do an engine swap. Transmission is the same, you'll need some other things to make it work. It also won't be cheap. You get the Scat pack performance, without the insurance premium.
@@colbyshropshire9124 that’s definitely NOT the definition of insurance fraud. It is in no way illegal to swap engines in any car. 🤦🏾♀️ the misinformation..
@@deanmartin7637 it is illegal if you don’t tell the insurance company or if not illegal you get back whatever your vehicle was originally worth unless you talked to the insurance company and git reinsured
Great video, RacerX! Upgrading to wider wheels, wider tires, performance suspension and springs, installing larger rotors, four-pot calipers, and brake pads to safely support the added horsepower gains just about doubles the cost of modding your R/T to match the output power of a Scatpack, or rather at least make it as safe as a Scatpack with those extra 100 ponies. But admittedly, modding an R/T to this level carries a certain level of satisfaction of owning and racing a sleeper, especially if you can do most (if not all) of your own wrenching. The cumulative mods add very little to the value of the car because at the end of the day, your VIN still identifies your Mopar as an R/T. You may realize ten to twenty cents for every dollar you spend on mods, but only if you can find the right buyer who recognizes the value of your aftermarket modifications. I've done the math several times over the years and concluded every time that buying a used SRT-392 or Scatpack was the easiest and often less expensive way to go. Ironically when I was ready to move up from my R/T two years ago, I bought a 2015 Hellcat instead, and it wasn't much more than a used Scatpack.
I have an AWD R/T. It’s a great daily driver, especially when the weather gets bad. It’s never going to be a Scatpack. The money it would take to bump up the horsepower isn’t worth it. If you want Scatpack or Hellcat power, go buy one.
Option 4: stroker. For 13k, all in, you can have a 400 c.i. Stroker from inertia motorsports installed, tuned, with some shorties and the STOCK exhaust.....500 horsepower at the crank or even more depending on your cam selection (which Stu will offer you cam choices), and that is a fully built, reliable build that will walk all over a stock scat pack. It’s a monster. You can spend more on the catback. Or a custom exhaust. Or long tubes, which would put you at a ridiculous 530 or 540 HP N/A. More than enough for the street and enough to make stock scat packs look silly, with the stock converter and everything believe it or not. All that being said....scat pack is the better value. But it’s not as unique. You’re welcome everyone ;)
@@RacerX9 I wanted to say...your video topics on these have been great to watch given the current climate. Keep it up, brings some normalcy to everything going on right now. And helps answer questions that come up so often in the Mopar community. A lot of people sort of go over this stuff, but don't really go into the actual cost to do it...pros, cons, etc.
Dodge offers three performance upgrades for RTs that are warranty protected and in my opinion that makes it worth it. Its around 9000 for all three stages. I think the total hp increase is 106 which puts a RT within 7 hp of a stock scat pack.
@@RacerX9 Google scat pack stage kits. There are three and it's possible to buy them all at once. The parts are provided by mopar. I may have been wrong about the HP. It might be 430 so maybe it's not so worth it.
I have to say this is another great video! I have always loved my Dodge's. Mopars i should say. Owned a new 69 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 and a 71 Roadrunner and a bunch more Mopar's. I am over 70 now, but still drive a Charger R/T with the performance package and a few extra mods, but i stopped racing when my Viper GTS Skidded a little doing 184 mph. I admit it scared me. Guess my age is showing. My wife almost killed me for doing it. 😛 . Just sold my two Vipers. A 99 GTS and a 94 R/T. Sad thing is the kid who called us Mom and Dad (he was 43 and drag raced his whole life (and bought both Viper's from me) wrecked the old Roadster and killed himself and a friend riding with him . I know it happens, but that with my age and wife made me stop. My Charger is plenty fast and i don't drive much these days anyway. I can say i have had a wonderful life and enjoyed every Mopar (along with every other musclecar) i ever owned. So have fun guys... just be safe as possible.
Great video , I felt reassured! I get off every morning and watch some of these sick videos. Wishing you the best with your channel! Keep up the great content
I’m a greaser from Detroit and the only cars we were proud of racing in my day were ones we modified. Oh I drove hot cars to work at Chrysler engineering and I did development on cars that sell for A Million dollars to day. Keep up the good work. Rumble.
This video very helpful! I'm purchasing a new to me vehicle within 3 months and the 2014 or newer Durango RT 5.7 is at the top of the food chain! All ill probably do is full bolt ons, headers and a tune, nothing too much as its gonna be my daily driver, thanks for the upload! Chrysler is currently making the hottest sexist vehicles right now.
I’ve owned 3 mustangs (2005 GT, 2012 5.0, 2015 5.0) all modded. I traded in the ‘15 for a 2018 Scat Pack with the dynamics package. If you get a Charger, get the 6.4. YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE A 5.7 AS FAST AS A SCAT PACK??? TRADE IT IN FOR A SCAT PACK.
Im with you brother I've been a Mustang guy since i was a kid but the sinister look of the Chargers are bad ass. Im a muscle head so if i made the switch I'd have to go straight into Hellcat territory and get the full experience.
these recommendations are pretty much SOP for all engines out there. Intake, Throttle body, exhaust and chips/tunes in modern engines. Gettin into the cam and high perf cylinder heads is when the real power comes
Long tube headers, full exhaust, ported intake manifold, ported throttle body, cam and a good tune will get the 5.7 in the same power range as a 6.4, maybe a bit more, but it'll weigh less. Add some ported and polished heads with a valve job, and you're 5.7 is 500-510hp.
Speed is limited on gear ratios and HP/Torque only gets you to that speed faster. If you think getting more HP will make your can go faster it will but your speed/MPH top end will pretty consistently be the same without a transmission/rear gear change.
Good info here. Depending on the Year, R/T's are pretty cheap to come by. You can buy a R/T and pay for Forced air and still come up lower than you would've with paying for a Scat Pack...whether used and especially brand new. But then again... a preowned Scat Pack isn't too expensive either and you'll have a better baseline. I say just look around and be patient and go for the bigger displacement. Great vid!
Solid video! I love my RT, currently running a Greene Racing tune and trans tune with long tube headers and its really come alive. Running 4.4 - 4.5 0-60’s consistently now when I can hook lol
This is my list mod I have planned for my SRT8 but it should boost the RT by a lot too. 1. K&N CAI 2. 85MM Throttle Body 3. Longtube Headers 3. Tune 4. Cat-Back Exhaust system 5. Cam 6. 315/30/20 Rear & 275/40/20 Front tires This should def add 100+ hp but not sure how much it will add to the wheels.
I have a 6.1 with just an intake, catback, and custom 93 tune and I run right next to stock 6.4s. Tuned by Flying Ryan Performance. He has a website. I'd check him out. He knows what he's doing with the 6.1
I own a R/T 5.7 Hemi Dodge. The throttle is large enough to handle a mod so don't waste money. Get a cold air intake, Catback exhaust, and diablo 3 tuner. For even more power, get a 6.1 cam or racing compatible cam. Have a great day.
My Ram 1500 runs 395hp and 410 foot lbs of torque just need to lower it, bolt on a 6.4 intake and throttle body, and put on the hp70 transmission and then it's faster than a charger.
It's disappointing that these mods aren't in the $3k - $5k range because otherwise it would be a great deal and in the true hot rodder form. Otherwise if his price estimate is correct then I can't say it would be worth it.
what makes it worth it is if you cant afford the scat up front but you can afford the mods over time by pacing out the cost its advantageous. ALSO it is fun to "build your car to be fast instead of just buy it"
5.7 hemi is a really great daily driver fun car but they're def cut back from the factory, but they'll be just as fast as the 6.4 with the 6.4 intake, 6.4 cam your bolt on stuff etc
I have a 2019 RT and I love it as my daily driver I’ve done a couple mods nothing crazy and may do a little more to make it more fun but it’s my daily driver and my first charger so I’ll keep it but for more power I’m buying a scatpack or a hellcat. I have people all the time say to me you should have bought a scatpack...I have a 3 year old and I’m just finishing nursing school I’ll get the scatpack don’t you worry but for right now I love my rt! Great video!!
Same can be said for anyone that’s modding a scat. Could’ve bought a hellcat, and then hellcat to demon, and so on...it’s about individuality not just going fast
I own a 2010 dodge Challenger SRT 8, I have a cold air intake system, a air control module, and a 93 tune this made my car alot faster I have beat Scat Pacs, RT's etc. I have raced alot of cars and have never lost but I am sure there is cars alotfaster than mine but a 2010 SRT8 is so much fun. I hope all the others have as much fun. Be safe!
I tuned my 2020 Daytona 5.7L with JackFab yesterday and absolutely in love! I have the Mopar CAI, stock headers, jba highflow cats, stock x pipe, glasspack mids, and rear res delete. They said I gained 70 WHP to the wheel!
So at the beginning of the video you say it's pointless to supercharge the car cuz for the price y I u could have just bought a scat then say spend the same amount on more parts and having your car gone longer for less gain then the blower lmao
So. I am buying a Charger police car (5.7L) and I wanted to have some fun with it. Mainly to practice on. Your video just reinforced everything I was going to do with it.
Last point, and someone else brought it up....the RT is severely under-braked. Two piston calipers just don’t cut it for the weight of the car to repeatedly stop it from high speeds. So add 3-4K to your cost for some actual great brakes for the car. At that point, you could’ve put an excellent down payment on a new scat pack.
I traded in my 2017 Chevy camaro 2ss and bought a 2019 charger RT and I had to slam on brakes a lot finally getting use to the weight of the car. I think I’m going to upgrade my brakes.
I have an 06 Charger RT with the Daytona package I bought new in 06, since I spend more time in my Semi than home it just now hit 60 thousand miles. I ordered a set of ported heads, a cam and headers for it now I have to install them next spring!! For me the car is paid for its in real nice condition so I said what the heck and spent 3500 hundred and have the same HP as a Scat Pack without the payments!! Next year I will upgrade the brakes and throw on some bigger sway bars and I'm good!! Beechmont Ford in Cincinatti Ohio is selling Mustang GT 5.0 with Roush Superchargers making 760HP for 46.000$ with a 3 year factory warranty and will ship them anywhere in the US so I'm trying to sweet talk my wife into jumping in to a Mustang instead of the Hell Cat, it's cheaper and more HP!! I will keep the Charger for a backup and just to play with!!
Alex Ellis sane bruh I’m Rey turn 16 and I don’t even want a rt or scat pack anymore, kinda just wanna go to sumthin big, like a hell cat or if not maybe a scat pack upgraded tho
I have a ‘17 Ram 1500 with the same 5.7 Hemi. First throw a high-end true CAI, dual exhaust/y-pipe with straight thru flow not baffled with a tighter diameter, and a Pedal Commander on to get the true measure of power. The Commander does not give you power but will give you the true punch of that engine. Start with those, THEN, throw on all the big bolt-on upgrades. I’m in the process of this now and have noticed a huge change in the dynamic of the truck, no shit HUGE.
There is nothing more fun than walking away from Scatpack's in my 2016 Challenger R/T+ 5.7 M6 with a Whipple supercharger running Boostane at 100 octane with a tune from Mike at OSTDyno. Yes it cost me 10,000 dollars more but the fact that it is a total sleeper is priceless.
Of course if you add boost lol then add boost to the scat too and its over lol.Dollar for dollar the scat is a much better value but the rt is an good daily.
@@rustyshackelford5892 then you build the engine at this point. Both the 5.7 and 6.4 shouldnt be boosted imo, they make great power n/a and are great reliable daily.
@@alpe6228 no bro.. there’s a reason why u see a bunch of 1000hp r/T’s and no 1000hp scats all over UA-cam.. plus to even get to hellcat power u have to swap out the rings, with the r/t u don’t have to do that all u have to do is gap them
Do you have an idea on how much more insurance there would be on a scat pack over the 5.7 RT on average? That might be the only reason to go with a supercharged RT I think.
I've been here before. Had a 2004 Mustang GT (2 valve) and wanted Terminator horsepower. Burned through a lot of money to get there when I should have just saved for 6 months to a year and bought a Terminator. I almost bought an R/T Charger last year, but the deal fell through. Just purchased a Scat Pack a week ago. Nothing at all wrong with the 5.7, but damn glad I have the 6.4 👍🏾
Stock HellCat Air Filters increase the horsepower noticeably. I beat my old record by 0.2 seconds of 0-60 and that was in Street Mode. I am going to do Sport and Track Mode when it stops raining.
i have a friend with a 5.7 daytona charger with a scat pack intake. his car pushes 400whp and its incredible to ride around in. if you want good power for less, a 5.7 is a great choice
@@smiley5oh na the R/T's are slow af. They get smoked by every v8 competitor. Its slower than a 2020 Toyota Camry with 300 hp. 375 crank horsepower in a 4300LB car is a joke
I have heard that if you supercharge a 5.7 and don't beef up the transmission, you're asking for a failure. -- I noticed that in your list of mods, there weren't any recommendations in terms of beefier power train parts to handle the extra torque. Any thoughts on that? I'd hate to see someone spend 10-grand to make the R/T keep up with a Scat Pack, only to find out that the Scat Pack beefs up something to stand that power that the R/T won't be able to handle, long term. Even the valve train on the 5.7 has a reputation for getting loose and clicky after 80,000 miles. - I wonder how many power handling issues are addressed by Dodge when you bump up to the Scat Pack.
Keep in mind - to run boost safely and get the most out of your super/turbocharger, you should use forged pistons. Now you have super/turbocharger cost + forged piston kit cost (roughly $1,800) + $$$ installation labor + tuning +... If you really want to keep an R/T and make Scat Pack HP/TQ, it would be cheaper to do an engine swap. I see 392s on Marketplace a lot for reasonable prices. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps!
if i waited and saved some more i could get a scat but personally i dont need it. an rt is plenty of power for me i just daily drive it. not a racer just want a throaty v8 sound
I had a rt custom and absolutely loved it, drove a scat, and still liked my rt better, then I drove a hellcat, my rt already had at least 20k in extras, the diff axles and driveshaft in my rt are actually the upgrade for the hellcat. Once I drove a hellcat there was absolutely no comparison. No one wants to date the second prettiest, no one ever remembers who comes in second or third. That's just the truth, I said all the same things I see in the comments, I had already spent almost enough to get a hellcat and wasn't anywhere even close to matching it. The very same day I drove the hellcat I traded my completely custom, badass, rt for it. The only reason to get anything but a hellcat is you are scared, because if you are going to put work and parts into a rt or scat, you will be spending more to get even close to the same performance.
Scared...I don't know, maybe they don't want to drop the 60 to 70k on a muscle car. I'm a GM guy that's been at this a very long time. My first was a 1994 25th Anniversary Trans-Am (in 1996)...I actually still own it and she's far from stock. She's not as mean as my Firehawk but still stupidly fast. At any rate, I have a 2014 SS Camaro that is getting traded in soon, like this weekend and I'm looking at my first Dodge ever. Yes, I could buy a Hellcat but I'm not for two very distinct reasons. The first is I'm not a Dodge guy and I don't know the cars. Right now, if I'm throwing Hellcat money down I am buying a Corvette. I'm going to give the 5.7 liter a chance to wow me and if I like it, I will get a Hellcat (likely next year). The other issue is my fiancee. Whatever I get, she will drive as well. That means I'm getting an automatic (unfortunately) and the Hellcat is too much car for her first. Before you ask, I don't own an automatic right now or she would be driving my 1994 25th Anniversary Trans-Am. She wants too as it looks just as good as the day it rolled out of the factory. The Firehawk scares her to death but it is tricked out six ways from Sunday. Just my take on all of this.
@@Sinn0100 lol, so she's scared, I have 2 licensed drivers in my house and they are both scared of driving my hellcat, my rt was my first dodge ever. And I've been at this a very long time, my first car was a 68 Camaro. Scared is the appropriate word, from what I've seen on here most if not all the people who have a hellcat are scared of their car. Probably with good reason, if you don't have the skills to control something with the back wheels spinning and exercise those skills regularly you can very easily end up wrecking your ride. I don't fall in that category. I looked at the Camaro and mustang before I got my rt. I'm 6 foot 3, and my 16 year old is bigger than me, not only would we both barely fit, they aren't pony cars anymore they are sports cars with a much more European feel. One word of advice, an rt is nothing like a hellcat. It's missing all the srt goodies, plus obviously the power. I had a procharged 02 Camaro ss convertible that I absolutely loved, can't hold a candle to my hellcat. Too many people see the hellcat as more of a symbol than a transportation device. They store them and barely drive them. I didn't buy a status symbol, I bought a car that can fit my big and tall family of four and all their stuff comfortably on a cross country trip, that also matches my personality and comes close to matching my skill level. THAT should be the focus of every car purchase, perform the necessary tasks and match or come as close as possible to your personality and skill. Nothing else really matters. I don't know if you've seen any of my other responses but my hellcat has over 100k miles, I drive it almost every day regardless of weather always w all traction and stability systems completely off, that's the only way to get it to actually move in snow. Also for the record a hellcat with all the electronic nannies on, is not that difficult to drive or control, you can set the car at either 500 or 700 horsepower, set up in 500 with all systems on it us actually pretty tame and could most likely be safely driven by almost anyone. Ask some people on here, that is how they drive theirs most if not all the time.
@@kelvinbrown4274 She's scared, but not the person buying the car. I myself am not afraid of them, I have respect for them. As far as not fitting...I'm 6 foot 2 and I haven't had any issues with my SS at all and too me it still feels like a muscle car.
@@Sinn0100 it never was a muscle car, the muscle cars were full size, the Camaro and mustang were pony cars. Also, do you fit fine in the back? I fit comfortably in the back of my hellcat.
@@kelvinbrown4274 Umm...pony cars are muscle cars. In all my years I have never heard anyone differentiate the two, ever. Further, why on God's green earth would I ever ride in the back of my cars (serious question)? I have ridden in the passenger seat of all of them but the back, no I haven't. My fiancee has but she's very small (5 foot 6) but that's really, really rare. Ediit- I'm really not trying to sound like a jerk even though I feel like I'm coming off that way. So if I do sound like that, I'm honestly not trying to be.
I bolted on a blower on my 5.7 for way less than a 392. I make 507hp but it's not always there. If I add 392 suspension and breaks, I would be over the 392 price tag. 392 is a better car overall, period. It really comes down to money, pay now or later, and what you're willing to forgo.
I just got my hands on a 2023 RT Daytona plus package fully loaded imma say this. It cost almost as much as a scat pack, my payments looked identical about 200 dollars off and the interest rate on the Daytona was 0% vs 8%apr with the scatpack. For me financially I really could have done both. Yes both were last call but only one really stood out to me the 5.7 vs 6.4 when you really test em normal roads and some freeway they really almost preform the same. The Daytona was a limited edition trim and I can find a scatpack any day in most places in my city, but the Daytona trim nah never really see those I hadda get it and lemme say everybody loved it they confuse it all the time for a scatpack and lemme say even when I tell them what it is they still love it. Do what you want don't follow a trend to please anyone. I was unimpressed with the scatpack maybe a hellcat later on but for now I love my Daytona RT✅
Sadly the hellcat cold air intake will only work on 2015 models and up. On 2014 and below you will pay 400-500 for the head light assembly needed to use the hellcat intake as well as 150 to buy the plug and play wiring harness you will need to actually run the head light assembly.
Well.. If the end price is the same for a rt to reach scat power. One thing also to consider is that the insurance stays the same on the rt. So it’s going to be a lot cheeper to maintain.
My insurance for a 19 scatpack widebody challenger and 14 ford fusion is $250/mo and im only 21. I replaced my charger v6 with the scatpack and the insurance was the same.
Too much depends on the insurance cost. Credit score is a factor, driving record, demographic, etc. My hellcat is actually cheaper by 5 bucks a month than my RT was. Go figure.
@@eldiablort1461 crazy part is I heard the exact same thing before. A guy I used to work with traded his R/T for a Scat Pack and ended up being cheaper.
You know the best part about intake, exhaust and cam mods and getting tuned? They support each other and can increase power more than they would have alone. Anyone can throw mods on but knowing how they all come together releases the true power potential. Are the heads restrictive from factory? Porting heads usually help with breathing and you can sometimes mill very little off to get a slight bump in compression if the valve timing allows for it.
Good evening Racer X I have question about my 2018 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi, can I put a 6.4 intake manifold and a throttle body on my 1500? And what hp would I get? Will I need a tune?
It takes one nitrous express hemi wet plate system set to 100hp and premium fuel for about $900. Id add a 6.4 intake manifold for about $800 + 150 for a controller for the active runners just for the all the time 20hp increase across the rpm band. The wet 100hp plate kit is all you actually need to beat a scat without a tune safely.
The 392 also uses the Hellcat rear axles. You need those for the increased torque. Also keep in mind a heavily modified engine and car is difficult to sell in the open market. Dealerships won't even touch them for trade-ins. Supercharged 5.7's might be worth a look but your rarely get half the cost back when reselling.
Anybody who knows anythjng about exhaust mods knows, you don't pick up much hp with a 2.5"/3" Mandrel bent pipes & header mod. But what you do pick up is EXPLOSIVE throttle response! Add the aforementioned with a larger throttle body, high performance plenum, high performance mass air flow sensor, & good cold air intake, your engine will breathe better...along with a good solid electronic tune.
Exactly lol i just purchased a cam the comp cams came up with its called "stage 2 hrt" and makes 112hp at 6200 rpm lol just the cam alone makes that hp🤣
Would you guys suggest getting a few bolt ons, then a tune? Or get a tune after the first mod? Im looking to get headers as my first mod, then probably a cold air intake
Love my '14 R/T just for the looks alone. Doing small upgrades have been giving me good results. CAI and Catch Can came with it used. Having the death tick resolved as we speak (always get a good warranty and change your oil) costing over 5 grand. Long tubes and 90mm TB when I get her back. Running 13.05 in the quarter now. Should be in the 12's after those. It's all about the challenge of getting every pony possible without the bottle or blower. Yeah I could trade it and get a ScatPak but I love this car. Need stickier meats out back but the 305/35 Nitto555G2's are pretty good for now. Have fun.
I have a 2016 RT Shaker 6 speed. Bought for 28k in 2020 with 25 thousand miles. I just added a Texas speed stage 3 cam kit, hellcat lifters, bbk short tube headers, flowmaster outlaw exhaust and had it tuned. The tune is key by the way. Dyno said 427 hp with 410 torque. Total cost was just over 6k. Its preference, I wanted the chop and I got it.
I feel kind of silly thinking about it. My Daytona 5.7 goes plenty fast enough , at least that's what the DPS officers and the San Jacinto county officers informed me......... only had it 130mph, (luckily not in front of them) but I believe it's governed at 145. Took my 07 r/t to 150 for a second then backed down... public roads not really made for that speed but I LOVE MY YELLOW JACKET DAYTONA 5.7 2018! 21 MONTHS OLD 18,000 MILES!
Basically get the 5.7 if you love to do Mods Get the 6.4 if you don't plan on doing much to it I've owned both Hemi's and there blast to drive! Really comes down to what you can afford and plan to do with it. it would be nice if we all had Demon or red-eye $
Increased insurance cost and higher loan payment on the scat makes modding an RT cheaper in the long run I think, because your insurance company doesn't know your hitting over 400 HP.
Most people choose the 5.7 R/T because we want that connection with our car by learning and building it as we go versus just buying it and barely knowing.
Thank goodness that I have the benefit of being able to register my 5.7 where smog isn't required and I can run straight exhaust no cats no muffler. Nothing required.
Hey man just subscribed were out here in Ontario. Love your channel on my 3rd charger now love the hell out them was just about to buy new challenger scat b4 all this madness happened
Everyone is saying just buy a scatpack but he clearly went thru the other differences and said “if you already bought a 5.7 RT” I own both by the way. 6.4 SRT and 5.7 Great video!!
Great observation my friend. I appreciate that
What year is your SRT?
SRT_Drizz if you had to change your 5.7 intake, would you go 6.1 or 6.4? I own a 5.7.
what kind of jobs y’all have to be getting these cars ?
Snag Daily I always ask the same questions bro!
Your right Dee.. that’s what’s it’s all about 👍
You’re so right! I love my 09 RT that to me is awesome ! I know it’s not a scat but damn it that’s ok wit me and damn it people like me ! Hah
Exactly that's what separate real car enthusiasts versus followers
I truly agree with every word you have spoken. These people who are saying just buy a scatpack probably do not know the difference in a socket versus a wrench; intake versus exhaust; hp versus torque.
I have a 5.7 Chally and am a lifelong car enthusiast. I looked at modifying my car and came to the following conclusions:
1) I would spend as much or more as if I just bought a 6.4.
2) the resulting car would not be as cohesive, or as well thought out, as the 6.4.
3) your typical shop would be reluctant to work on it.
I ended up keeping mine stock and continued to mid my other rides, where my work and $ would result in an improved vehicle.
Unless your on a race track everyday.....nothing wrong with the 5.7!
Very true 🤜🔥🔥
Does the rt get the same type of kick like a scat?
@@1KBEENDRAGGIN not really, imo. The torque makes a pretty noticeable difference to me.
Nothing wrong with more power also😉
Liljules 04 nope. Not at all.

BTW, love both yalls channels and i enjoy them. Just my 2 cents on a 5.7
DoctorDifferential & SpeedShop what did you do to safely run e85?
Yeah they'll fly I have one too
I’m with R/T Life.
Great frame of reference my friend
Lol i ran 11.8 stock in my C7 Z51 A8 so your R/T jumped up pretty good
I bolted on a supercharger on my 5.7. 507hp, manual, loud and lots of fun. I don't race or track, just in it for the fun of it.
Exactly, same goes for ppl like me who have a scatpack. Enjoy it for what it is, plane and simple.
I would not place it as outdated. In such a case the V6 3.6L is more than outdated. It's just a smaller displacement engine.
You were exactly right about changing the throttle body and the air intake and exhaust manifold I've done all three of those and that 57 that I got is badass
What exhaust manifold should I get
RT $36640 payment $615/mo
Scat $45430 payment $763/mo
Hellcat $76175 payment $1279/mo
All 2020 prices with 10% down over 60/mo and keep in mind the insurance increases as price does also. At the end of the day $ is what determines what you buy.
I purchased a 2020 scat last month for $34k.
Those prices must be with like 400 credit 😂😂😂
@@pierresland lol I got 750 credit for a 20 year old. I pay 570 for a 19 RT. Not always bad credit but age

Credit doesn't affect purchase price. It affects interest rate and therefore monthly payments
@@jmur3551 I pay 620 for my Rt and I’m 29 my credit is 585. I will continue to build my credit with my first Hemi. I’m satisfied 💪🏽💪🏽
i got r/t its a practical daily driver that sounds good . of course you always want more...but 10k for 100 more horses that you can barely use in a congested city like Dallas not worth it to me at this point
Agreed. Unless you're racing, an R/T is all you really need. 10k is a lot of money for bragging rights.
Or for the same price as an R/T, get a 5.0 and be able to gap scat packs for less $. They also take boost like a champ.
@@caseycrank5607 I like the GT; my sons have them (2). But the piston slap and transmission problems kept me away. I think the TR6060 is a much better transmission and Ford should have put them in the GT. It's a shame that you have to get a 2020 GT 500 to get a good transmission.
I live in Dallas and as soon as it turns night the freeways become a racetrack
Get a used sportbike like a R1 or GSXR1000 and be able to smoke 95% of the cars you see on the street. Performance to price motorcycles are the best bang for your buck.
Option 3. You can do an engine swap. Transmission is the same, you'll need some other things to make it work. It also won't be cheap. You get the Scat pack performance, without the insurance premium.
That would be much more expensive than paying an extra $30 a month
@@IslandLife843 the scat pack already has the hemi 🤦🏽♂️

@@colbyshropshire9124 that’s definitely NOT the definition of insurance fraud. It is in no way illegal to swap engines in any car. 🤦🏾♀️ the misinformation..

Awd rt? Is it a decommissioned cop car?
Not a cop car. Dodge made the Awd R/T until 2014.
Is it the v6? I never knew they made an awd r/t v8
It has the 5.7 in it.
Yes that’s the way I look at it as well
Option 4: stroker.
Definitely something else to consider
@@RacerX9 I wanted to say...your video topics on these have been great to watch given the current climate. Keep it up, brings some normalcy to everything going on right now. Dodge offers three performance upgrades for RTs that are warranty protected and in my opinion that makes it worth it. Its around 9000 for all three stages. I think the total hp increase is 106 which puts a RT within 7 hp of a stock scat pack.
Interesting.. what are those 3 things that Dodge offers?

Chris Cook do you have a mustang though
these recommendations are pretty much SOP for all engines out there.
Add some ported and polished heads with a valve job, and you're 5.7 is 500-510hp.
or... cam, E85 and blower. Make 700+
@@zacharyohare2118 Yeah sure if you got $10,000 to spend on the blower and install cost.
Just got my 2017 RT. Have a few mods but want more speed now. I’m still learning the ins and outs and this was very informative. Thank you!
Great vid!
HotRod Fuego .. very true.. good advice

True.. the RT does not have high powered brakes like the scat 👍
Grant J The newer rt comes with the brembos and stock scat pack suspension with a new package they made.
I traded in my 2017 Chevy camaro 2ss and bought a 2019 charger RT and I had to slam on brakes a lot finally getting use to the weight of the car. I think I’m going to upgrade my brakes.
C Diesel mines came with the 4 piston Brembos so they are pretty good for me
I have an 06 Charger RT with the
Daytona package I bought new in
06, since I spend more time in my
Semi than home it just now hit 60
thousand miles. I ordered a set of
ported heads, a cam and headers
for it now I have to install them
next spring!! For me the car is paid
for its in real nice condition so I
said what the heck and spent 3500
hundred and have the same HP
as a Scat Pack without the payments!! Next year I will upgrade
the brakes and throw on some bigger sway bars and I'm good!!
Beechmont Ford in Cincinatti Ohio
is selling Mustang GT 5.0 with
Roush Superchargers making
760HP for 46.000$ with a 3 year
factory warranty and will ship
them anywhere in the US so I'm
trying to sweet talk my wife into
jumping in to a Mustang instead
of the Hell Cat, it's cheaper and
more HP!! I will keep the Charger
for a backup and just to play with!!
Geez your eyes are matching your shirt! Great video very detailed
Thank you my friend
Built not bought 💪💪 even if just bolt ons, huge respect for folks that like to take their rides to the next level
Love my rt, saving up for a hellcat!
Same but I’m 16😳
Alex Ellis sane bruh I’m Rey turn 16 and I don’t even want a rt or scat pack anymore, kinda just wanna go to sumthin big, like a hell cat or if not maybe a scat pack upgraded tho
Hk Khan lol I’m 19 with a rt and the insurance in 550 and you 16 and want a hellcat lool
CurlyBoii Ty how much you pay for rt ?
CurlyBoii Ty I’m thinking of getting a scat but I’m 17 , I wanna handle those 400 horses first before handlin a hellcat 😬
Ram 1500 already has a good intake manifold from the factory
There is nothing more fun than walking away from Scatpack's in my 2016 Challenger R/T+ 5.7 M6 with a Whipple supercharger running Boostane at 100 octane with a tune from Mike at OSTDyno. Yes it cost me 10,000 dollars more but the fact that it is a total sleeper is priceless.
Most scats around me are 10k plus most r/t I'd rather have a Whipple r/t sickkkk
Of course if you add boost lol then add boost to the scat too and its over lol.Dollar for dollar the scat is a much better value but the rt is an good daily.
@@alpe6228 throw more than 5lbs of boost and a 6.4 will shit out a rod
@@rustyshackelford5892 then you build the engine at this point. Both the 5.7 and 6.4 shouldnt be boosted imo, they make great power n/a and are great reliable daily.
@@alpe6228 no bro.. there’s a reason why u see a bunch of 1000hp r/T’s and no 1000hp scats all over UA-cam.. plus to even get to hellcat power u have to swap out the rings, with the r/t u don’t have to do that all u have to do is gap them
My RT Charger was the Ginny pig for Vortech to mock up the supercharger kit last year for production. I absolutely love it.
Do you have an idea on how much more insurance there would be on a scat pack over the 5.7 RT on average? That might be the only reason to go with a supercharged RT I think.
It would be a little bit more depending on where you live etc. but the mods on an rt aren’t always covered by your insurance
The R/T models are awesome. I have a scat pack and I 1000% love R/T’s all the same.
that boy got a new camera 🙏🏽😂
Weak asf 😭
I've been here before. Had a 2004 Mustang GT (2 valve) and wanted Terminator horsepower. Burned through a lot of money to get there when I should have just saved for 6 months to a year and bought a Terminator.
I almost bought an R/T Charger last year, but the deal fell through. Just purchased a Scat Pack a week ago. Nothing at all wrong with the 5.7, but damn glad I have the 6.4 👍🏾
Not sure if this helps but the difference in car payment I was quoted 3 weeks ago for the RT and Scat, was $37 per month.
Yeah but longer loan. Rt was probably a 5 year loan scat pack was probably 6 or 6.5
Love you dude! Thank you for the knowledge in cars for us men and women that love cars YOU ARE TRULY A CAR GOD!
Stock HellCat Air Filters increase the horsepower noticeably. I beat my old record by 0.2 seconds of 0-60 and that was in Street Mode. I am going to do Sport and Track Mode when it stops raining.
I appreciate the professionalism of your content.
i have a friend with a 5.7 daytona charger with a scat pack intake. his car pushes 400whp and its incredible to ride around in. if you want good power for less, a 5.7 is a great choice
Nick Perez doesn’t make sense with just a intake swap
a 5.7 charger only makes 375 Crank hp so probably 300 whp. with an intake maybe 305 whp. A scat makes around 400whp
Kevin Martin its got the scat pack airbox/intake and a tune
Gr8tcylinder Mcgee probably just 400 crank then. eitherway, its still a fun car without busting the budget too bad
@@smiley5oh na the R/T's are slow af. They get smoked by every v8 competitor. Its slower than a 2020 Toyota Camry with 300 hp. 375 crank horsepower in a 4300LB car is a joke
Thanks!
Much appreciated my friend.
The got the same trans as the scat there shouldn't be any issues unless you put more money in the car than it's worth
I could only afford the R/T but I fell in love with it so I'm just gonna keep it and mod it
if i waited and saved some more i could get a scat but personally i dont need it. an rt is plenty of power for me i just daily drive it. not a racer just want a throaty v8 sound
@@brody8857 same !
Fort Worth hell yeah! I live in Haslet, can’t wait to get my RT. Perfect for the family and to satisfy my need for some power
@@kelvinbrown4274
She's scared, but not the person buying the car.
@@kelvinbrown4274
Umm...pony cars are muscle cars.
People say just buy a scat, but i like the thought of having the exact same motor from a ram in a car
Scat has better brakes and suspension, I think in the end makes it really worth it 😎
I bolted on a blower on my 5.7 for way less than a 392. I make 507hp but it's not always there. If I add 392 suspension and breaks, I would be over the 392 price tag. 392 is a better car overall, period. It really comes down to money, pay now or later, and what you're willing to forgo.
My 5.7 T/A comes with the same suspension as the scat. The only difference is I have the 4 piston Brembos and not the 6 piston.
Better then the Daytona? 🤔🤔🤔
Either way if you’re gonna go fast you’re gonna have to delete the Brembos for some 15s
You don’t need the brakes to go faster tho
I’ve just started working on my rt adding little bits here and there but I love my rt wouldn’t trade it 🤷🏻♂️
The RT is a great package
Very useful video! I’m definitely gonna get an awd 2011-2014 generation charger for my next car
Got a rt on Friday and I love it so much , mods next ...😎
Right on bro I bought my Durango RT and my CTS V coupe that somebody traded on a hellcat from Meador. Awesome dealer.
Sadly the hellcat cold air intake will only work on 2015 models and up. On 2014 and below you will pay 400-500 for the head light assembly needed to use the hellcat intake as well as 150 to buy the plug and play wiring harness you will need to actually run the head light assembly.
Yes that’s a really good point
Bummer, suggestions for a 14?
Just got my 22 r/t 2 weeks ago in military green and I'm loving it
Well.. If the end price is the same for a rt to reach scat power. One thing also to consider is that the insurance stays the same on the rt. So it’s going to be a lot cheeper to maintain.
I went from a r/t to a scat pack a little over a month ago. Couldn’t pass on the price. My insurance is $6.84 more a YEAR! I couldn’t believe it.
My insurance for a 19 scatpack widebody challenger and 14 ford fusion is $250/mo and im only 21. I replaced my charger v6 with the scatpack and the insurance was the same.
I think it depends on the driver and the company 👍
Large cam/headers/exhaust system / cold air Intake /tune that's it🤣
Exactly lol i just purchased a cam the comp cams came up with its called "stage 2 hrt" and makes 112hp at 6200 rpm lol just the cam alone makes that hp🤣
@@lopezcool976 does it void your warranty?
ray H jr yes anything effecting performance wise will.
@@lopezcool976 just wondering w
What that cam cost...? Who did you buy it from?
Would you guys suggest getting a few bolt ons, then a tune? Or get a tune after the first mod? Im looking to get headers as my first mod, then probably a cold air intake
Extremely informative! That's why I'm a dedicated subscriber! Thank you.
Have fun.
Racer X was actually a cartoon character in the Speed Racer series in the late 60's early 70's.
He was Speed's brother.
A blower. Question asked and answered
Basically get the 5.7 if you love to do Mods
Get the 6.4 if you don't plan on doing much to it I've owned both Hemi's and there blast to drive! Really comes down to what you can afford and plan to do with it. it would be nice if we all had Demon or red-eye $
Awesome video man! Exactly what i was looking for... I’m getting ready to trade up from an SXT so this was very insightful
Increased insurance cost and higher loan payment on the scat makes modding an RT cheaper in the long run I think, because your insurance company doesn't know your hitting over 400 HP.
Agreed!!
Yea basically more air flow the faster you car goes....that’s all a supercharger is or a turbo ...jus forced added air ...great video my guy 💪🏽💪🏽
completely wrong
Most people choose the 5.7 R/T because we want that connection with our car by learning and building it as we go versus just buying it and barely knowing.
True true
Thank goodness that I have the benefit of being able to register my 5.7 where smog isn't required and I can run straight exhaust no cats no muffler. Nothing required.
Lots of knowledge for a 5.7 owner💪🏾, Hey Racer X, wht is the size of the red stripes on your Hellcat💯,
