I can't believe it took this scenario for people to notice all of this about him. It already showed through his smug "I'm the nonpartisan, non-gatekeeping punk that everybody likes" aura. His "neutrality" and tone of voice also were just kinda painful to listen to. I'm just glad I stopped watching him ages ago.
I remember listening to a few of his videos over a couple days a while back ... and then I heard the Indie Rock video. That video just made it clear that the guy definitely never listened to any of the bands he was talking about, didn't know what Indie was, and didn't really even care to understand the first thing about music or songwriting. The only specific I remember was he criticized the Lumineers for writing lyrics based on the sounds of the words in the music more than the meaning, and I'm like "dude, lots of poetry is like that, that's how David Bowie and James Brown write lyrics."
Dude, he always went on and on about rock being dead. I mentioned to him in his comment sections that both the goth and post-punk genres have a ton of new bands making rock music and he totally ignored me. He definitely had an agenda and by definition is a poseur. Screw him.
Yeah his "rock is dead" mantra was so annoying. Sure it's not popular in the mainstream anymore as kids these days seem more about rap and country (surprisingly lol) but there are still fans of rock and metal and that certainly does count. And yeah as someone who is into goth and post-punk, his comments about the goth scene were so ignorant because there are lots of new bands coming out keeping the sound alive. And then his comment about "emo rap" which is not a real thing, I just could not lol.
@@thepunkrockreview In my personal view, no. The reason why I feel this way is because emotional hardcore (emo) is so rooted in guitar work from it's hardcore punk and post-hardcore roots and in "emo rap", it just doesn't utilize that structure much if at all. It just sounds like rap music with maybe a slight guitar here and there and I just don't see how it sounds anything like emo at all. At least with something like rap rock with bands like Crazy Town, Beastie Boys, and when Public Enemy did their "Bring Tha Noize" song with Anthrax, they utilize rock elements throughout the whole song with the rapping. Same deal with nu-metal like Linkin Park, they utilize the instrumental structure with rap-style singing laid over it. If "emo rap" was doing the same thing, I would think otherwise but most of what I've heard, it just doesn't do that.
@KaiDecadence well, emo rap is absolutely a thing. It doesn't have to have a guitar to be emo rap. It's tone and lyrical content, as well as influence, that makes it that genre/sound
@@thepunkrockreview I will just have to agree to disagree because I don't think that lyrical ssubject equates a music genre because in the case of emotional and/or depressing lyrics, any kind of music genre can have those and if it really was about that, you could say that a song like "Shadow" by Britney Spears is an emo song because of the subject matter of the song or you could say that pop singer Pink is punk because she embodied that "punk" attitude in her earlier music. I guess I may look at this in a more intrinsic way because I remember years ago when people were saying that "Soundcloud rap" is "goth" (which is the subculture I have resided in for 15+ years now) and they were calling that stuff "goth music" because of the rappers dressing in mostly black while having skull decals and having darker lyrics but in reality, goth is a certain kind of music genre that has it's own instrumental structure & foundation that SoundCloud Rap just did not utilize at all. So about this "emo rap", I just can't really get behind that notion because from the outside looking in, these rappers did not come from the emo scene and it just comes off like a bunch of rap kids who found interest in an alternative aesthetic which wasn't really done all that often in rap music. I've heard people call this stuff "Sadboi Rap" and I think that is a much better and accurate term for it considering the origins of the music and how it really is mostly rooted in rap & hip-hop but with an alternative aesthetic (the piercings, unnatural hair colors & eccentric styles, and tattoos). But again, that's just my own view of it. More power to people who like it but I personally would not consider it "emo" music.
Bro take it from a straight up 80s and 90s kid punk rocker , hardcore pioneer, and later skinhead. I will honestly say that no hardcore enthusiast straightedge and or vegan hardcore enthusiast would ever consider supporting conglomerate animal abusers like proctor and gamble. We had anti proctor and gamble propaganda campaigns that we were pushing , supporting across the board , industry standard in the scene and across all the scenes under the punk rock umbrella when we were in middle school. And that's coming from an apolitical perspective , accepted common ground beleif in and around all those scenes. Nobody with a hair on their ass or with out one would have ever supported such a sellout capitalist and anti punk rock corporate capitalist endeavor as proctor and gamble. #Finnmcpoobutt #finnmcbitch #finnmcfurrburger
I just think he's always been a bit of a troll and comes off as a douche. He criticized gatekeepers while being the ultimate one himself. I liked watching videos about bands i like and there wasn't much out there a few years ago. I'm not going to shit on the guy entirely because I don't think he's a bad person even if he was just doing it for the money and doesn't even like music... which i think is complete BS. He comes off as a total scenester know-it-all. He absolutely loved telling everyone about all the cool shows he went to etc. That shtick gets old and even people who enjoy watching someone bee a troll get tired of the routine eventually.
I just find him incredibly disingenuous and fake. Maybe some people see me that way, who knows. I don't hate him or with him bad fortune, but I'm glad he's leaving the platform
Gatekeeping gets a bad reputation. I think a bit of it is necessary to keep vulturous, toxic people like Finn out of communities they don't belong. Gatekeeping, when done properly, keeps scenes like ours healthy while expanding it to more people who actually love alternative and extreme music.
Man I really like your authenticity, and I too am a dad, a single dad so I know what it's like to be trying to do something and pressing pause to be there for your son.
Whoa... comic books are how I began on UA-cam! I used to have a comic shop in Katy,TX for a couple years! I wish I had the time to do another channel, I would!
Your channel may not be huge, but you've got a new sub from me today! I found this video because of the topic. I used to watch PR MBA sometimes, and Finn always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad you made this video about him, and I'm looking forward to watching more videos from someone who seems actually genuine, and not a scummy douche like Finn.
FLannnn McFLAKEY.... what a joke! I saw it a mile away. I watched years ago. He tricked me into buying a shirt... it was $50 with shipping. Man, I always resented that one. I like Punk, I like other music too. Wonder how much Finn charged him for this "zoom call." His linkedin profile is atrocious.... DEI corporate cringe.... GOD FINN IS FULL OF HIMSELF. Sorry, I am HATING. Also, I believe he's never listened to SOAD. I own their records LOL I am also VERY long winded myself, brother. Enjoying your content so far, I'll be watching.
Not sure why everyone's upset about it rather than just be glad a snake and a cancer to the music genre outted himself instead of making more money off our interests. Also why be angry about it when this whole shit show gave us a chance to stumbling upon genuine people who actually like the music we like, which is exactly how I found this page by waking up, and seeing about this, and then seeing the thumb nail for this video and I was like "shame about that guy faking it to get rich, but cool this review dude seems relatable!"
There’s a real big divide between people who love the art and producing said art and the people who live to make money off of it. I see that very clearly here.
I just found it a bit irritating that a channel called "Punk Rock MBA" in the title seemed to cover 95% metal and he didn't seem particularly well informed on punk.
Came here for some analysis but it felt like you can't see a perspective outside of your own. That's fine, but it begs the question why you would publicly fumble through the motions. You don't have to agree with someone else, but 1) To the point about researching on Wikipedia, the context is in response to the interviewer saying that he felt unqualified to make content and Finn affirming that it's that easy to fill in your gaps of knowledge. 2) Finn obviously once cared deeply about this scene and was incredibly knowledgeable with good insights and has made innumerable videos about these points 3) He was incentivized to create content that fell increasingly outside of his interests and chased that for a while and didn't like it, so it seems like there's a pretty simple explanation for not wanting to do it anymore. I've watched a handful of videos from the Punk Rock MBA, didn't always agree, and moved on. It seems bewildering that you are doing the exact thing that you are accusing Finn of in the same video.
I am shocked that you think he and I do the same thing. You clearly haven't watched any of my other videos, lol. That's ok, you're not obligated to. This guy is a fraud, I am not. That's the main difference.
@@thepunkrockreview Respectfully, you and Finn are both doing the same thing in the sense that you repeatedly admit that you are making videos about Finn's resignation against your better judgment for the views, and as you imply several times, jealousy for his platform size. Finn quit for that reason: to no longer create videos he didn't want to make for views. Is this the person that you want to be? I find that it's not your idealized self and feels inauthentic at best; conflicted at worst. That's fine, and I appreciate the honesty that you put forward. I did watch a half dozen of your videos and similarly found that I wanted more depth. We've worked with Jesse and interviewed him as well. You're a bit younger than I am, like Rancid more than I do, come from a background of poverty, and do a bit of hand-wringing about how you want certain outcomes and are figuring how much you want to stretch the Overton Window to get there. That said, I appreciate that you push back against spreading unfounded rumors and did not bash Finn for being autistic. At the same time, you speculated pretty wildly about things in Finn's life that are discoverable through research. If video essays are your passion, I'd suggest starting with getting the available information before you publicly pontificate about inaccurate information. It's disingenous to call someone a "fraud," because it's a characterization. It's like saying a restaurant sucks; it's neither true nor false. By the same measure the internet could call you a fraud. Avoiding characterizations is similar to not slinging rumors about his personal life that aren't knowable or are speculation. Finn was honest about his motives for quitting. As a video essayist, isn't it more compelling to make your case by laying out the specifics of knowable information about every situation, what he did or didn't do, and letting people draw their own conclusions rather than telling people how to think? I mean, that's my punk rock: as an empathic community, it's immoral and unethical to tell other people how to feel about a situation and it becomes our moral obligation to say "hey, that's not right. I don't like this guy, but how would you like it if people ganged up on you as an adult with developmental differences?" FWIW, I don't agree with most of Finn's opinions or takes and engaged most of that content with bewildered skepticism, but that doesn't make him a fraud. The resignation explanation actually made it make sense. I share this with you, not as a criticism, but because it seems like you actually give a shit about doing better.
11:35 truth man, truth. I remember spending most of my time at Rotate This in Toronto in the early 90s, buying almost exclusively punk rock, but one day I was flipping through the dollar bin and found Madonna - Like A Virgin. Enh, it's a dollar. I figured, it is so popular, maybe there is something good about it that Im just missing, so I bought it and gave it a serious listen. Nah. I still don't get it. I had the same feeling I get when I listen to Turnstile...a shrug. All that being said, I DO have Madonna-Like A Virgin in my collection
Kudos for reading between the lines here. A lot of people seem to be taking his "I never cared" claims at face value when, clearly, a lot of what he's saying is being said purely out of resentment.
I enjoyed some of his videos and in those videos he seems super knowledgeable even about bands he doesn't like so him saying he has no interest in music is just a lie. Maybe he should have said 'currently' and elaborated a bit. If he lost interest that's fine but show some fan appreciation Finn!
I only watched his history of indie rock. The man seemed highly uninformed. Maybe he's better on other subjects, but I wouldn't trust a word coming out of his mouth without checking for myself.
Your take is spot on. There are more options now so who cares about Hollywood productions. You can go to where you want and belong now. UA-camrs and streamers ARE the new stars. Its like TV killed the radio star and the internet killed the TV star. How is this hard for Finn to comprehend. Time moves on man. The internet came out at a time where people our age im 40 as well grew up with the internet yet also that type of music. So obviously we carry that forward. ( I don't care if you talk shit about SOAD or Slipknot they ain't my family and shit getting butthurt over that is weird to me) I do listen to SOAD and Slipknot and all that so duh we will keep it popular on the internet b/c we are the internet age. Now I listen to new stuff just as well I'm not the only what I listened to in High School guy. I never would have imagined then I'd like Ghost and Lorna Shore. but I do and been to a concert of theirs. Same with like The Hu from Mongolia I love that shit. I understand me/you don't listen to the same type of music but the logic still applies. Also yes this is a good thing to have more options
Also those are not micro celebrities. Bro just said 100 million subs. Anyone with 100 million subs is bigger than any Hollywood star has ever been. And makes more money too, just look up the salaries of top celeb actors compared to top youtube/streamers. Like huh, youtubers with 10 million subs make more money than Will Smith ever commanded. Asmon like he brought up makes 2.5 million on his streams alone. that doesn't include twitch payouts or contracts from Twitch or UA-cam at all. And he has millions of YT subs and views. Asmon does NOT have 10 million subs..... Yeah homie these streaming/youtube stars are not only mega stars but much bigger than hollywood and def music stars. Music stars make the least and are the least popular overall.
I'm glad Fin shamelessly admitted who he is (a jaded hypercapitalist poser who's allergic to criticism) so everyone can wake up and know who they were/are supporting but it sucks he had to basically insult his audience in the process. Not just by leaving abruptly but by speaking about them the way he did in this interview. Oh well, at least the situation helped me find this channel.
Yeah, I'm seeing a fair amountnof growth due to his blunder, and hopefully, I will be able to keep it going for a long time. I have some pretty serious goals, and when we reach them, this channel will be a thriving community! Thank you for becoming part of it!
The Punk rock MBA name fits with those 2018-2019 videos where he made history of various music subgenres. I think he genuinely likes many of those bands/styles and perhaps just doesn't listen to the hardcore of his youth.
I only watched his history of indie rock. The man seemed highly uninformed. Maybe he's better on other subjects, but I wouldn't trust a word coming out of his mouth without checking for myself.
He did his thing, got the money, and his channel is good promo material for his real business, social media marketing consulting. Personally, i watched him cause he had solid takes on business side of things. Yea, his content was stale and repetitive, but, he did videos that people watched. In the end, if you treat YT as a business and optimize for earnings, you make videos that get views. That's how you get paid, be it trough ad sense, be it trough sponsorship.
I used to watch Finn’s stuff fairly regularly, and I don’t know WHEN it was that I noticed it, but at some point he started making this huge shift into clearly just saying aggravating stuff and having wretched takes for the purpose of being antagonistic. It’s hilarious to me that he very clearly and intentionally started leveraging comment-section hostility as a marketing tool, and then has the audacity to cry about how mean the internet is, and how “smooth-brain” viewers just want an outlet to be shitty. Like, that’s the EXACT reaction you were going for, Finn. If you didn’t want the hostility, why’d you cropdust the room and then bounce?
This guy is all about money. I've seen a couple of his videos about punk rock, mainly the 80's punk and he kinda doesn't know what he's talking about other than what he reads on Wikipedia...I guess you had to be there finn
To circle back to the concert ticket costs - I've paid over $100 to see MAYBE 2 punk shows, with bands that our generation grew up with, and it wasn't even that much over. $300 for a 3 day VIP Pass for Riot Fest in 2016 when The Original Misfits headlined. I just paid the most I've ever paid for a concert to see Deftones which I've been listening to for 31 years and have seen 16 times, only bbecause I could and I figured it could be my last time to see them. So I splurged. Our punk bands that COULD charge way more for tix, don't. They know their fanbase. And they know we will buy a shit ton of merch. I've always said that music, especially live music, should be for EVERYONE. Not just the elite. There's absolutely no reason for any artist thats worth a shit to charge over $1k per ticket. No reason whatsoever. I feel like these guys are saying a lot of shit just to sound cool and unique. Like when someone doesn't watch a show that EVERYONE else is and they feel like they have to bring that up every time the topic comes up just to seem cool and edgy but they really just sound arrogant and pompous and nobody cares thhat they don't watch it but they just HAD to mention it. Idk if I'm making any sense at 5 AM but thats my input. Ugh. lol this is worse than the Erin Mackalakaheiney-ho drama! 🤣🤣
Punk bands should definitely be affordable to watch play live. Legacy bands have earned the right to do theaters and maybe amphitheater shows, but at a reasonable cost. I just want a young person to be able to afford to see great musicians
@@thepunkrockreview exactly. One of my bucket list concerts ever since I was a kid (I turned 40 in June) was Depeche Mode. Don't judge! I have always LOOOOVED DM and Dave Gahan. Anyway they were on tour last year and were coming to Boston on Halloween night. I got 2 tix for me and my husband, on the loge (mid) level at TD Garden near the stage for around $300 including taxes and fees. I was absolutely FLOORED at how affordable they were for such a band. The best part? Right before they took the stage some guy that was working on the tour was walking by and saw our costumes (I was a mermaid/siren and my makeup looked AMAZING, and he was my captured sailor) and he loved them so much he gave us tickets all the way down on the 5th row. It was SUCH a great experience, and that type of stuff NEVER happens to us. Best. Halloween. Ever.
Oh really? I know nothing about that.... don't know that I want to, tbh. I'm already not a fan of his, but if that's a thing, then I'm not surprised he is quitting the channel
39:18 Can confirm🤣🤣. Growing up i hated when people would talk bad about Slipknot. I was 12 tho, still a fan and when i hear shit talking, doesnt phase me at all, just laugh it off & understand that all this shit is subjective so Ive heard it all but there are fans that just annoy me unbeatably. Oh and TOOL fans. I was actually getting around to liking his content, I did not like him at all at first coz everything he did felt like he was shitting on the music his fans loved. Then I came back with a different mindset, didn't mind him at all, thought he was funny until now, left my guard down & he just straight up said "I'm leaving, oh and I never liked you guys or the music"
Omg your kid is adorable! Also preach brother. He really betrayed his fan based and thats just a shame. It's kinda gross cause they have financed him and donated to him. Then he slaps em in the face.
Hes obviously trolling here. My guess is that since hes had a baby, hes reordered his priorities and realised that his kid growing up in the public eye while hes recieving hate all the time isn't going to be good for his family.
I think he sounds like he’s trying to talk himself into not caring about music. He probably still likes the music but would rather embrace being a super poser than have to explain why he likes the Casualties AND Green Day. He’s a Hot Topic punk living at a crust punk fest and he hates it.
Lol, it's tough being a Casualties fan AND a fan of Conflict/Discharge/etc. I don't know all the cool bands, but I like most of what i hear. Punks are ridiculous sometimes, but that's what I love about it!
I wasn't a fan of this guy at all but I did watch a few of his videos over the years and even though I didn't always agree with him, in fact I didn't agree with a lot of what he said a lot of the time, I still thought his videos were okay in the sense that the topics were interesting (in my opinion) and some of them were even nostalgic throwbacks what with him talking about certain bands that were well-known back then and as someone who is into all kinds of rock music, his videos were usually serviceable enough. The biggest thing that turned me off from his videos though was that he seemed to focus more on whether the bands were commercially and financially successful or not and then use that to measure their overall worth and I just could not jibe with that at all because that was such a shallow way to look at a band's music and hearing what he said in the interview, it makes a little more sense why he did that so much. I dunno, it just comes off shallow and hollow. Like when he was talking about bands that overcharge their tickets and how he could not see how that is a crappy thing to do to the fans, I think you said it best that well-liked bands could still make more than enough money selling tickets at modest prices because more people would be able to afford them and go see them, it should be obvious why modest prices are better in the long run. But I agree that this does suck for his legitimate fans who liked hearing him talk about music and this interview was like a slap in the face to them. It's so clear that he was talking out his ass in some parts like saying he never cared about music at all, that is nonsense because he clearly did, at least when he talked about hardcore punk. I feel like once he started chasing trends was when he started to care less about music, I could believe that. I also think he was just clearly coping because he really was a divisive person in the community and he couldn't handle the criticism(s) that he got and this is just him lashing out at that. Overall, he's a fraud and if he had any respect for his fans, he would've went about this differently by keeping it simple and saying that he wants to move on to other content, there was no reason he had to take his frustration out on his fans. The whole situation was absolutely unnecessary.
While I 100% agree, we have to admit that hearing negative comments all day is really hard to ignore. Like 1 shitty person can outweigh 20 kind people. It's weird. But he didn't even acknowledge the good people, so crazy... I feel like I would be SOOOOO grateful to have that kind of success on the platform.... oh well, I'll get where I'm supposed to and it will be rad! Thanks for watching 👊
@@thepunkrockreview Oh sure, I'm not saying that negative comments don't suck and they totally can be upsetting to get but it's always good to remember that at the end of the day if you're doing what you like, that should be enough after you take some time processing the occasional hate comment. At least that's how I go about it anyway heh.
Unfortunately I am a very transparent and honest creator and I still have a feeling that it wouldn't take much for the community to turn on me... hopefully it doesn't happen, though, I have a lot to give to the scene!
Agree with you 100%! A lot of peoppe do not realize they are bragging, in subtle ways they talk. MBA is an example. Unrelated, but i agree about your genre opinions, i think Nirvana is punk all the way! Lol. Dont let parker drive you too crazy!! 😂
Parker always drives me crazy, lol. And I didn't say Nirvana was punk, I 100% don't think they're a punk band. But they're close enough to cover them on the channel. I mean, that's just my opinion, of course
I never minded Finns channel as I was a subscriber of both of his channels . But what got me to his channel was the straight edge vid and earth crisis vid. Since I have always been a hardcore guy. But I did watch every he dropped just to see his thoughts
Damn Randy that dude is lying so much in this video also. WTH is going on with him? Especially him saying at the beginning that he doesn't even like music. So freaking weird to me
I quit a job I had no love for for 17 years, I get it. A lot of reviews are not made by knowledgeable people, just filter out the information you want to keep. People should learn how to market your channel, you’ll make more money too.
i genuinely forgot about this dude for a few years til tonight your other video on this was the first on my feed when i woke up and theres been a great sense of catharsis watching them edit: more catharsis lol, my sister is a massive tool fan and that felt good to hear someone else say, its truly insufferable hearing about the second coming of jesus buddha and mozart aka maynard edit2: i will say that this era of micro neiche celebrities is really cool to me personally, a close friend started streaming bit over a year ago and the community shes fostered is wonderful, and in all the ways that matter (save financially I suppose) shes famous in our own little bubble. its incredible to watch and watch her be happy
@@thepunkrockreviewLong story short... A guy visiting asian countries and disrupting the public space by making a bunch of racist remarks and just being a dick in general. Btw, Stephen was the frontman of Kickback.
Keep doing what you love man. Better to have a smaller channel about what you care about than millions of subscribers and not give a damn about them. I actually thought that guy was really into music. I guess you really never know anyone
Yeah, I've always said basically the same thing you're saying. I'm happy with the channel as it is, but I know it'll grow. I work hard and bring something unique to the platform. So my ceiling may be lower than his, but my foundation is far stronger
He said he only did it for the money. That's why he didn't want to rub anyone the wrong way cus it affected his bottom line. Grifter. It's insulting to us little creators who are trying to make it out here
Growing up in Hardcore from sf from 79, i was raised around horrible behavior. Though i love my punk family, i had to break from No Values to values that would serve me well. Cat shit compounds got old. Rancid didn't like my style. I couldn't do the rock star gig So i moved on...? Thanks for the commentary Cheers man
You leave people empty handed ( Finn) I mean it’s super lame , acting like a coward. And straight up he talks about money. Trust me , when he said it his he knew he was going to piss a lot of people. Man some creators would kill to have what he has. And talks about a 💎 ( punk)gem like its a piece of shit😮. I wish that your channel become bigger than that fraud mba. You deserve it , all the hard work you put into it. Im a new ish ( a year) Subscriber. I wish you all the bests, all happy holidays to you and your family.!!!!OI!cheers🔥🔥
Thanks homie, I appreciate it! We'll get to where we need to be. 10K subscribers is not too far away. It's a snowball at that point, just a matter of patience and consistency. Thank you for the support and kind words? I appreciate it 👊
Honestly I am surprised he stayed around as long as he did. It's been obvious for years that he's got no passion for this any more with the way he's spent years now just rehashing the same stuff over and over again. Seriously the amount of nu-metal videos he's put out is probably more than nu-metal bands have had music videos actually made. In terms of you personally saying you won't cover bands like knocked loose if for some reason you ever changed your mind there's at least the argument that metalcore has it's roots in hardcore and because of that it's still punk adjacent. Finn's videos on just random bands and genres often made no sense given what his channel is called. Don't get me wrong if people like Finn want to make videos on stuff they're interested in they should do it but if you have punk in your channel name and you're not covering punk at all any more then what are we doing here?
Exactly. That is fraudulent behavior. I just use Knocked Loose as an example, but they're just a metal band, imo, and I don't listen to them. I don't hate them or anything, just not my thing
Yeah, 31RECORDS!!! We have some new stuff that just came out (Cakeeater & Without Apology) and 3 vinyl releases being worked on now! Pre-orders for the first press go up on Christmas!
I genuinely think he only said that "he did it for money" to spite his audience. In 2017-2020, dude definitely said he loved music (loves Eightern Visions and Terror). Before doing wikipedia readouts, I remember his series "Bands that could have been bigger" and "most hated bands", which were full of interesting insights. I think he ended up pandering to a certain audience, and grew bitter from it. I still don't think he's a fraud, but what he did was definitely not cool at all. Dishonest would be the word I'd use to describe him. I think what went wrong was that he made his channel grow up too fast and brought in some fans that he probably would have preferred to not have in the first place.
He’s just using the rhetoric that has been pointed at him. He’s being flippant instead of getting into the real reasons. When asked, he just says he doesn’t like music and he just read off Wikipedia. It’s like, “there you go, trolls”.
@ fair enough. I only watched videos of his sometimes. I did appreciate that he put together essays that had interesting arguments and could be thought provoking. I watched his last video yesterday. I don’t necessarily agree that rock and metal are dead, but the way he unpacked the argument had validity to it. Anyway, there seems to be a lot of people that don’t like him, so perhaps, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. For me personally, I thought his content was fine. To make it in YT, you need more than passion for the topic. It’s a business. Congrats on your channel. You’re one of the few that is actually out there having a go, rather than passively scrolling and putting crap on the substantial work that other people like Finn produce. Like him or not, those videos were work that required time and energy.
The 1st time I saw a Finn video, it really annoyed me how his goal was to fit in as many modern slang words per minute as possible (chad, drip, etc). I commented about it and he got defensive, and that made me warm up to him as his videos continued to be recommended to me. It's not surprising and kind of validating that he was just co-opting all this stuff as an experiment in relating to people. But unfortunately, I have to say that you and Finn have something in common in that you both base your videos way too much on social constructs. For punk rock "branded" channels, I don't leave your videos with any better of any idea what you guys actually think. It's like you're just guessing at what people relate to. It's not the 90s anymore, just do what's best for you. If he did marketing for Febreeze, is it any worse than what you do for money? If you like a band other than NOFX, is it really such an identity crisis? You should be more confident in what you actually think if you're posting a lengthy opinion video to youTube.
Super clear to me that you don't watch much of my content and have no idea what you're talking about (in regards to me, personally), so I hope you stick around and become part of the community. Finn and I definitely have a few things in common, but it's the structural things, our character, that is very different. Whether you'll see that or not? I have no idea. Have a good one 👊😎🏴☠️
@@thepunkrockreview It's true that you didn't adopt an entire subculture (as well as desperate attempts to check off buzzwords that teenagers know) like Finn flat out admits he did just to "grow a brand." I think what I was saying is if you don't like the guy, I was looking for more insight into his hypocrisy but at 80+ minutes this seemed a little half baked. I guess that's what the shorter version is for. Thanks for the respectful answer. 👊
I feel he left because like he said in the video. He doesn't care about new music and the bands and the bands the viewers would want to watch. He said he did it ( butt rock, slipknot .etc. ) but wasn't what he wanted and the videos and bands he like no one would watch. So he looked why do something you hate to get views
I mean, don't do videos on stuff you hate. It's pretty simple. My channel is growing a bit slower bc i choose to not make content I don't like, but it is something I am passionate about, so I am grateful and excited to have the community. I need money, but it's not all about money. That's the key difference, as far as I can see it
@@thepunkrockreview I agree. He changed over time to make money and get the views. An sold his soul for it. Why he got alot of hate. I saw at times when he talked about dark angel or more underground bands . You can see the passion. But he stopped doing the content to build a bigger channel . But it blew up in his face
Fin always ignored me his people who paid him money are bought shit off him he would respond too whatever i did like his videos and i did agree with some of the things he said but really i enjoyed his history of the bands that type of thing i like origin stories that type of thing and he always did a quick historical part
That sucks, I try and interact with as many people as I can. Maybe one day there will be too many people, but until then, I love the community aspect of this channel
@thepunkrockreview yah he was a snob didn't really care his videos di have a high entertainment value and I am a metal head metal bands that type of thing but I played in a punk metal scene for years in Calgary so punk became close to my heart and I agree suicide boys are not punk rock because you have a punk attitude you can not call it punk rock you call it hip hop lol with a punk attitude like it are not there is a sound to the genre it's not just looks are attitude it's also a sound
Oh I'm DEFINITELY more relatable, lol. I'm sure there are some Slipknot songs I'd like, but I just don't like the band and wouldn't listen to them. 😬 lol, I appreciate you, thank you for hanging out! 👊😎🏴☠️
@@thepunkrockreview what can I say? I'm one of those weirdos that likes real people with real opinions on real things they actually are passionate about that I'm also passionate about. Maybe Finn can corner the market of people that like the exact opposite of that because he is exactly that my friend. You and Dan Hampton are the two dudes that have analyzed and drawn pretty much the exact same conclusion I have with this whole thing. Keep it up!
Dude that totally makes sense about how you could be cool with a person at a show but probably not so much outside of that. 😆 I knew dudes growing up that we may have shared the same taste in music and were respectful to one another at a show but outside of a show it’s like F U. Haha it sad it’s that way when you really think about it but it’s more like a agree to disagree ha. Also Finn isn’t going anywhere and the System Of A Down comment etc haha he is trolln hard. At least that would be my guess. Like an end of year troll. I haven’t watched dudes channel in a long while but still would be my guess. Not sure I’m buying this like a lot of others clearly are. What more Punk can you do than pull this troll for some unexplained reason.
I mean, this would be pretty elaborate, and I don't think he's that clever. Plus, he hasn't dropped content in like 3 months. Why would he do that? Momentum is incredibly hard to get on this platform... that would be hilarious bc it would blow up in his face. Good luck with your "I told you so" Moment, lol, but I don't think it's happening
@ Couldn’t have said it better man, I agree with your response and yea I basically was trolling myself. I mean duh why would he do this, exactly. By the way his childhood sucked. An addict mom and all her boyfriends who didn’t give a shxt about him. He has a kid now that Vietnamese wife of his is telln him to bring in the bacon I’m sure. I didn’t like how he just seems like an unappreciative a-hole in that interview. Like haha suckers I got all of you. Really good for him if he can sleep at night feeling good about himself. Almost seems fraud-like and maybe his Linknd people may want to think twice about doing business with him. $3,000 hahaha I wouldn’t pay that dude 3 cents, but he made money off my views of his videos. I don’t wish anything bad for the dude, I got nothn against him. He did do some good interviews with some cool guests actually, not all but some. Yes I was one to wonder why he called his channel the Punk Rock MBA also but I mean it’s a name. Like it’s about music period but yea as a punker I think it’s also stupid on his part. I mean look how long it took him to drop a video on Rancid and that’s probably only because fans like us told him that he should. No videos on the Clash? The list could go on forever. Instead he was doing Nu-Metal fashion and yea I was like WTF haha but it was actually a good video. He could make me laugh at times whether at him or with him. Nothing super impressive though just like his video on Rancid wasn’t. It’s like tell me somethin I don’t know already and he also didn’t always fact check obviously. I mean he blatantly admitted he Wikipedia the shxt out of everything. For a casual viewer though that never knew much about Rancid if at all, it was a decent introduction video. He’s an artistic dude that thought to create a channel on pop culture but for more on the rock side of things. Good for him as he is an OG of YT with his content really but yea very not the best look with that interview he did. Your video must be getting views because it popped on my feed and thus first video of yours I have seen. That I can remember anyway. Hearing you say Rancid is your favorite band than I know I will want to checkout other videos so I’ll give ya a subscribe dude 🤘🎸🤘
How hard would a 5 minutes or less video of him saying I have been thinking about stepping back from UA-cam and I have to reorder my life around my kid have been ? I'd have to agree that the comments got way too much into his head so he had to pretend he had this grand Joker like scheme and didn't like any of it.
It's super obvious what he's doing and I don't know how he gets on LinkedIn after this and pretends to help people and doesn't just come off as a jerk...
On his second channel he had some decent vids talking about old music videos and songs. He could be pretty funny. Everything he did on his main channel seemed too much like a job to him. Never came off as genuine. I remember him saying he didn't like Dead Kennedy's one time and I couldn't believe it, then he turned around and made one of those wiki-docs on them a couple years later. PS Dude did you know you've got 2 ads running every 90 seconds on this thing?
It had always seemed obvious to me that Finn wanted to be part of something that wasn't really in his soul. Mild autism I think is more accurate than douche. He approaches life from a more analytical prospective which is why he seems so bitter toward a scene that operates in the exact opposite way. I knew 2 kids exactly like him growing up. Both are more financially successful than me but both always stuck out like sore thumbs in the music scene so ofcourse I'm poorer but cooler and that doesn't compute with someone like Finn. I would venture to say it fries his circuits a little bit.
Whatever the reason, he is incredibly unlikable. My son is on the spectrum and would never treat an opportunity or community (that he cultivated) this way...
@thepunkrockreview Well one thing I know is that one time, I made a disparaging remark about Blink 182 in the comments, and he took the time to snap back at me. So he does care about something.
@thepunkrockreview yeah theres nothing wrong with making money but music and art in general monetary gain should be secondary. The second you start chasing money the art suffers and loses all meaning. I mean he calls himself the "punk rock" MBA for christ sake. Punk rocks core value is DIY, its never been about money.
Musicians are a lost cause huh? Well the greatest musicians are the ones that target their own audience and love what they do. 311, Rush, and Frank Zappa for example. You get respect by being YOU, and being real… even if you struggle your ass off to get there. I don’t hate Fin.. but to deceive his followers like this is wrong. Nothing wrong with making money… but be real about it. Yes.. he’s reached his financial goals.. great… but he’s lost a lot of respect for his fake BS!
doing what you enjoy is how you get subs. you actually covered Camera Silens and that was an an instant sub from me there. you don't have to do a video on them but you should definitely check out Syndrome 81. another great french oi band.
43:54 You are wrong. He doesn't owe the community anything. He did his thing, now he wants to do something else. Even if he is a poseur, he has the right to do what he wants. I feel you might be projecting your ideas and interests onto him, but even you said earlier that there is a point, having a car and a house (?something like that, i wasn't really listening?)...he, too, had goals, and he met them. 🤷♂ And, ya, he's a bit cynical...and that doesn't make sense to you...but after 700 videos or so, maybe you will see it in a different light. You might not get as jaded as he, but you might understand why.. The fundamental difference is you want to build a community, he wants (wanted) cash
I'm glad that people are finally seeing him for what he is. Finn is just like the other culture vulture and his smug attitude about never listening to certain bands makes him so unlikeable. How do you know what you like/don't like until you give it a listen? Love watching the little dude run up and claim his hugs! Parker is getting so big and its clear he has so much love and adoration for you Randall!
Parker is my Lil Monsta! We hang out every day! I'm honestly conflicted, because I don't like the dog piling on the guy, but he's just so unlikable. Just like Erin Miklow, they can't even see what people don't like about them. Although, I assume people will dislike me at some point, too, for whatever reason
@@thepunkrockreview and if they do that's on them. Keep being you.. the genuineness shines through even if you do ramble or get in your own head about stuff. The other "she who may not be mentioned" probably saw a dip in their ratings and needed some new drama .. which we all unfortunately heard about. The shit that bothered me was the bands and venue getting shit.. Anywho high 5 to the little monsta from cyberspace!
@thepunkrockreview Finn is obviously business minded, focused, and knowledgeable about media driven culture. You kept comparing yourself to what you would do & not accepting his reasons. People only have so much time or energy to put into things & if the juice isn't worth the squeeze, maybe focus on things that are. I honestly believe the title of his channel "Punk MBA" was limiting, but he wasn't confined to only focusing on the genre. He made it very clear what topics or subjects brought the views & were financially worth his time.
I find it weird how everyone is obsessed with this dude. He made some good videos. Now he doesn't. He did it for the money, so what, he made quality videos. I don't care about his personal life.
Cool, good for you. Feel how you want about it. I explained my reasons thoroughly, and it's not his personal life i care about. It's his culture vulture ways and his attitude.
Give it to him; greatest punk rock swindle ever. When I went to college (and I didn’t go straight out of high school), I stopped calling myself punk rock and started saying “I WAS a hard core kid.” Simply because I knew I sold out. But I had too much respect for the music and the people who stayed hard core, punk, etc. to claim it anymore. To me, there was nothing you could have added to make him look worse than him saying he didn’t care about the music.
Says a lot that guy is so worried about people knowing who he is...this dude had few to no friends growing up, probably has had 1 gf in his whole life and started a casual relationship with an 18 year old when he was 35...gross.
ua-cam.com/video/8I9LniF5mYg/v-deo.htmlsi=7rB_Zdbk-eE8KR91 Hey since you said Rancid is your favorite band i hope you don't mind me shamelessly plugging something. Just a short video I posted of a bass solo I wrote for a song that was inspired by the solo in Maxwell Murder. I'm trying to find a vocalist, so maybe someone will see and be interested. I enjoy the opinions you're giving on this video btw!
I've disliked him for years, I never understood how he was so big
fence-sitters are always liars
I remember listening to a few of his videos over a couple days a while back ... and then I heard the Indie Rock video. That video just made it clear that the guy definitely never listened to any of the bands he was talking about, didn't know what Indie was, and didn't really even care to understand the first thing about music or songwriting. The only specific I remember was he criticized the Lumineers for writing lyrics based on the sounds of the words in the music more than the meaning, and I'm like "dude, lots of poetry is like that, that's how David Bowie and James Brown write lyrics."
Douche is an accurate description of finn. He just came across as a fake to me.
100%. I know I'm not everyone's favorite, but at least I'm me.
Wait, are you saying emo-rap isn't real?
Dan Frampton is hilarious and crazy intelligent, I've always felt like he was an underdog.
Well, you'll appreciate what is coming this weekend, then!
Finn is that guy at the edge of the pit upset that he's getting pushed.
Shit, that's me sometime 🤣🤣🤣 I just don't like getting kicked in the nuts, but yeah, he would definitely be mad about moshing at a show
Bro take it from a straight up 80s and 90s kid punk rocker , hardcore pioneer, and later skinhead.

@@jpthedrummer4258 ayyye! Thank you! Welcome to the circus 👊😎🏴☠️
I regret not giving this guy more hate while he was active.
😬🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@nicklee5541 So you admit to "Hate" watching his content? You just wish you would of done it more often! 😆
Oh, I absolutely agree. I also don't care to argue with people about it, lol
Man I really like your authenticity, and I too am a dad, a single dad so I know what it's like to be trying to do something and pressing pause to be there for your son.
The kiddos are a lot of work, lol! Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the channel!!!
You probably get this a lot but can you start a comic book channel?
Whoa... comic books are how I began on UA-cam! I used to have a comic shop in Katy,TX for a couple years! I wish I had the time to do another channel, I would!
The UA-cam algorithm pushed his channel so hard. I should have sussed it
Your channel may not be huge, but you've got a new sub from me today! I found this video because of the topic. I used to watch PR MBA sometimes, and Finn always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm glad you made this video about him, and I'm looking forward to watching more videos from someone who seems actually genuine, and not a scummy douche like Finn.
I appreciate it, hopefully I can make my wiki-reads a little more interesting than he did, lol
Same for me, you got a new sub today. Killer TBR cap.
I own their records LOL
I am also VERY long winded myself, brother. Enjoying your content so far, I'll be watching.
Heck yes, welcome to the family! 👊😎🏴☠️
He was such a poser. Glad I figured it early on
There’s a real big divide between people who love the art and producing said art and the people who live to make money off of it. I see that very clearly here.
Very good point
I just found it a bit irritating that a channel called "Punk Rock MBA" in the title seemed to cover 95% metal and he didn't seem particularly well informed on punk.
100%
In retrospect to you reply in your previous video, at 5:37, I now fully understand your stance. I genuinely did not know this until now.
Yeah bro, I would love to make a little money, this is a TON of work, but that's pretty far down my priority list
It's so obvious, dude is a tool
well nice to see that this channel is actually about punk rock right on…
Always about the punk rock over here!
Thanks for opinion like it
Thanks for hanging out, I appreciate it!
I'm so glad I found your channel man! You seem like a really genuine dude 👊
I am very glad you found it, too! Thank you, and welcome!
@thepunkrockreview sweet! Always down to find new channels talking about punk rock, have a great night man👊
I’m not a big punk rock guy but you got my sub for being an honest person!
I appreciate that, thank you! You may just get infected with the punk bug if you're here very often!
I enjoyed some of his videos and in those videos he seems super knowledgeable even about bands he doesn't like so him saying he has no interest in music is just a lie. Maybe he should have said 'currently' and elaborated a bit. If he lost interest that's fine but show some fan appreciation Finn!
100%
I only watched his history of indie rock. The man seemed highly uninformed. Maybe he's better on other subjects, but I wouldn't trust a word coming out of his mouth without checking for myself.
Hes an actor
If that's your way of calling him a fraud, I agree
Your take is spot on. There are more options now so who cares about Hollywood productions. You can go to where you want and belong now. UA-camrs and streamers ARE the new stars. Its like TV killed the radio star and the internet killed the TV star. How is this hard for Finn to comprehend. Time moves on man. The internet came out at a time where people our age im 40 as well grew up with the internet yet also that type of music. So obviously we carry that forward. ( I don't care if you talk shit about SOAD or Slipknot they ain't my family and shit getting butthurt over that is weird to me)
I do listen to SOAD and Slipknot and all that so duh we will keep it popular on the internet b/c we are the internet age.
I think you're missing the point, but yeah, he definitely made some money, lol
@slaven18 My thoughts Exactly! Finn knows business, marketing & relevance in culture.
Thats what I've been thinking about this whole time. Dude just couldn't take it... smh
Best. Halloween. Ever.
A lot of people have been questioning the age difference of him and his wife. It's possible he did this interview to draw attention away.
Oh really? I know nothing about that.... don't know that I want to, tbh. I'm already not a fan of his, but if that's a thing, then I'm not surprised he is quitting the channel
39:18
Can confirm🤣🤣.
Dude is a giant hypocrite
Omg your kid is adorable! Also preach brother. He really betrayed his fan based and thats just a shame. It's kinda gross cause they have financed him and donated to him. Then he slaps em in the face.
Yep. That's my main issue with this. Otherwise, I don't care or think about him at all
Pretty sure he said he work for Abercrombie and Fitch at one time lol
😬 yes he did say that
Hes obviously trolling here. My guess is that since hes had a baby, hes reordered his priorities and realised that his kid growing up in the public eye while hes recieving hate all the time isn't going to be good for his family.
I was wondering if it's all a troll. If it is, that would honestly be hilarious 😂
Unfortunately those hate comments are occasional. It's a 2 pronged issue, he isn't who he claims to be, and the online community can be very toxic.
@@thepunkrockreview Yeah that's fair
Unfortunately I am a very transparent and honest creator and I still have a feeling that it wouldn't take much for the community to turn on me... hopefully it doesn't happen, though, I have a lot to give to the scene!

Parker always drives me crazy, lol. And I didn't say Nirvana was punk, I 100% don't think they're a punk band. But they're close enough to cover them on the channel. I mean, that's just my opinion, of course

You leave people empty handed ( Finn)
I mean it’s super lame , acting like a coward. And straight up he talks about money. Trust me , when he said it his he knew he was going to piss a lot of people. Man some creators would kill to have what he has. And talks about a 💎 ( punk)gem like its a piece of shit😮. I wish that your channel become bigger than that fraud mba.
I didn’t know you had a label , I’m 💯gonna check it out , your merch and all, I heard talking about it in your other video….🔥
Yeah, 31RECORDS!!! We have some new stuff that just came out (Cakeeater & Without Apology) and 3 vinyl releases being worked on now! Pre-orders for the first press go up on Christmas!
@ beautiful I’ll check it out 💯💎
I genuinely think he only said that "he did it for money" to spite his audience.
Well, dishonesty is in fact fraudulent, so yes, he's a fraud. In what way? That's debatable
I use to watch his videos, but he started getting redundant and boring at the end... He always has came off as pretentious
Agreed
Thin McCunty
He’s just using the rhetoric that has been pointed at him. He’s being flippant instead of getting into the real reasons. When asked, he just says he doesn’t like music and he just read off Wikipedia. It’s like, “there you go, trolls”.
True. I would normally feel empathy for people dealing with this, but i just can't with him bc i just don't like him
@ fair enough.
@thepunkrockreview yah he was a snob didn't really care his videos di have a high entertainment value and I am a metal head metal bands that type of thing but I played in a punk metal scene for years in Calgary so punk became close to my heart and I agree suicide boys are not punk rock because you have a punk attitude you can not call it punk rock you call it hip hop lol with a punk attitude like it are not there is a sound to the genre it's not just looks are attitude it's also a sound
also I like your videos and find you more relatable anyway even though I bet I could find a couple of early Slipknot songs that rip 😂😂😂

I have no idea when ads run, I don't place them myself.

I mean, i understand making money from your skills, but good grief, the people that would actually need his help can't afford it...

The guy played you and the rest of his audience and you’re still sucking up to him. That’s just sad.
Aww cute❤
Oh, the kiddo? Lol, he's a maniac
You make a valid point
Says a lot that guy is so worried about people knowing who he is...this dude had few to no friends growing up, probably has had 1 gf in his whole life and started a casual relationship with an 18 year old when he was 35...gross.
I know nothing about his personal life, I just don't like him. If he did some sketchy stuff, it's even better he's gone

Hey since you said Rancid is your favorite band i hope you don't mind me shamelessly plugging something. Just a short video I posted of a bass solo I wrote for a song that was inspired by the solo in Maxwell Murder. I'm trying to find a vocalist, so maybe someone will see and be interested. I enjoy the opinions you're giving on this video btw!
