- Asuka R#'s starter guide just dropped and...WOW. Never thought we would ever see a character like this in Guilty Gear Strive! Here is my reaction and analysis of this character's crazy moveset!

Arc System Works (Arcsys) has recently made Guilty Gear Strive, the latest entry in the Guilty Gear franchise! This fighting game is heralded for its use of Rollback Netcode, included on all platforms Playstation 4 (PS4), Playstation 5 (PS5), and PC (Steam). Recently Arcsys has released it's latest season pass character, Sin Kiske!

Anybody who is Galaxy brained enough to play this character consistently well will have my respect. If they can't, happy pot busting
I expect early on release it will be a bunch of them since no one knows what any of the projectile actually does so you can just randomly use it. But after that only a select few determined enough to memorise all optimal combination of spells can excel with him…at least I hope that’s the case
I'm a (casual) Pot main who really wants to play Asuka. Honestly, I enjoy labbing more than PvP, so Asuka looks like a fun time.

The starter guide gave me a headache. But after watching it again it makes so much sense, it is crazy!
This is definitely a character that will shake things up, I'd say Nagoriyuki and Happy chaos did it before and affected the way Arc sys balanced the game a lot (in a good way for the most part). Asuka might do it on a whole new level. He gives me a lot of hope for season 3.

We aren't talking about how insane the meter gain is, and how lackluster the damaging super is. I think they're really trying to get us to be as aggro with spells as possible.
He really reflects his boss fight from Overture, where it was just a never ending torrent of "RANDOM BULLSHIT GO!"
this is kinda funny because his super ended up being really good and the best projectile super by far

As cool as Asuka is looking I don't think that many people will flock towards him, because the sheer amount of stuff you have to keep in mind to play him "optimally" is going to be a big headache, you have your mana, your decks (test subjects) your limited copies of cards (number of spells) and how many you have left for each deck, and not to mention memorizing at least what some of the spells do individually... juggling all those variables in the middle of battle will be quite overwhelming.
Optimally? Hah! How the heck is anyone going to predict what I'm going to do if I don't know what's happening next?!

Daisuke’s True Vision was to create a BB inspired archetype in GG that is more complex than an actual BB character 🙏🏻
This man plays like Dante from DMC if he was in YGO universe but he's in a 2D fighting game instead and I love it lol
It actually reminds me of KH Chain of Memories deck system but with more decks.

It's definitely one of those characters to try, then to explain. I can think of a few things for sauce, but honestly it's a bit much just hearing it.
This character requires you to write a 250 page thesis on test cases and spell managment in order to utilize him properly 😂
Idk if it makes sense, but the one problem/difficulty I could see Asura R# have is like what Hero has in Smash Bros Ultimate.
Selecting spells or having to look away from your oppenement for a few seconds to be aware of what you have isn't best. Or yolo it and just throw what we got and hope it's good 🤔
Difference between hero and this guy is hero has to pull up a menu and you have to look at the menu and then either cancel it or scroll through and stand still while your scrolling to do it. With asuka he has 4 spells locked in and you shift between them. 3 different decks with a set of random spells that you lock in and you don’t have to go into a menu at all.
The chant into bookmark cancel makes it so that the risk is as minimal as possible. I don't think it'll be a big problem, especially once you get used to all of his spell cards and can tell what they are with just your peripheral vision
7:30 ABACABB, this code is for red blood on the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat 1, SNES never had "real" blood in it, only the Genesis version could, with said code. I'm surprised Kizzie knows it though!
I think I will like playing Asuka more than HC. I'm also worried he will be like another HC in that the community will hate his zoning or the sheer amount of options he has even though they're individually simple and limited. I can't wait to see what pro players do with him because I think it will be wild when they put the puzzle pieces together and figure out some crazy combinations of spells. He's basically a stance zoner that plays like MTG and it sounds really cool. Like Hero from SSB + Platinum, Nine and Kokonoe from BB.

That's what I thought too.
I thought the same too until really paid attention, and yeah I don't think he's going to be that much like nine because of 3 details:
You have a limited amount of spells in each deck (which you get randomly, unless actively working towards changing them to what you specifically need).
You have a limited number of spells individually for each spell (like 3 of spell A and 2 of spell B)
On top of it all you have to worry about the mana consumption, even if you don't memorize how much mana each spell costs you have to pay attention to avoid running too low.
In general he's a very amazing concept, but I'm not sure that many people will gravitate towards in when compared to nine who had a few less things to juggle at the same time... also he ain't nearly as curvy 🤪
Of all people who reacted to the guide, Kizzie is the one who understood it the most on first impression, I had no idea how any of the moves work until I watched multiple reacts.
I thought he was gonna cast magic, not play Magic

Seeing this makes me wish they'd go back and rework sauce into the old characters. I want Bridget's insane yoyo tricks and movement. I want Testament's traps. I wan Giovanna's pubby to do stuff independently and to give them a werewolf fusion install. I want streamlining to keep me from getting carpel tunnel when playing, not shy away from elaborate concepts.

Cant wait to see people using the bookmark super and then follow up with a fixed 40 input chain to select the 4 spells for "the perfect combo", all in 3 secs of animation.
the decks are shuffled at random so you gotta believe in the heart of the cards
I feel like Asuka R# is gonna be what Happy Chaos was for Season 1 in the terms of "they can do WHAT?"
Both characters have the energy to shake up the meta and make things interesting. He looks intimidating to pick up, but I'm excited to play him, I've waiting since I first started playing Strive halfway through Season 1!
I personally think Asuka is gonna be what JackO was for season 1, I mean she currently is the most technical character in the game.
Seems like bookmarking a full spell is around 1 second, that is plenty of time, guessing the case 1 intended to you to draw at least 3 slot of the projectiles cube. Case 2 contain great stuff like the slow moving cube and automark but very unlikely one gonna get them before deck is 15 card thin. Id say the strat around asuka is to do basic combo around case 2 or case 3 until you get what you want and move on into case 1 to do the nasty combo
He finna be complicated but strong at the same time (I like that)

Chrolo and Nine had a baby. Character looks insane to play but, he also look like he will be difficult to master. They basically added a Blaz Blue character to Strive.
Never a character felt like being a actual wizard in fighting games before XD

Weirdly getting Tetris vibe , you definitely need ability to adapt to sequence you get while counting what critical might come in back of your head .

Glad i watched this video cus I’m not gonna lie when I first seen the trailer for this dude my immediate thoughts were yea he looks cool but he looks like the type of character that makes my brain hurt trying to wrap my head around everything he can do. Watching this I feel like made it seem not so crazy, there’s still a lot you gotta think about but the basics of the character aren’t that complicated. You basically have 3 different decks you can switch too with random spells that you can bookmark to different slots it’s just about figuring out the optimal ways to use all that stuff to your advantage. I also like how there’s multiple ways to recover mana

He's the primary villain of the whole series...
He literally can't be weak. Imagine waiting 20 years for this moment and him just being "meh".
To me, this character is The Hero from smash but on steroids. If pretty much every spell in his test cases is good, then yeah he's probably going to be insane, but otherwise I don't see him getting much high-tier play, relying on rng is not often a good plan and he seems to need a lot of it.
But regardless he seems fun as all fuck so I'm gonna play the hell out of him
If he is interesting enough and strong enough people will play him and get really good at high tier play. If not then we gonna get another bedman

I think the execution is not hard as Zato i mean it’s definitely hard but real challenge seems to be learning his every spell and manage mana balance.
pure execution-wise he seems really easy to me, the mental stack and RNG optimization though? That's going to be hell to master.

I think this game is a little too fast for an RNG-based zoner to be top tier; the reason HC works is because of how consistent he is.
He still looks fun to play though; can't wait to try him.

Cool to have characters like this from time to time, but i don't want majority of new characters to be like this for sure.
It´s like Ángel in KOF. Loved by most people, only played by a few specialists but always a delight to see being used at high level because of the crazy BS these type of characters can pull off. Not every character should be like this, but I would say every game needs at least one.

i think a lot of people were complaining over the simplicity of strive,not me,but this character is finally gonna give them that complexity they strived for so badly
Yeah, at least here is the "on paper" complexity that a lot of doubters kept saying that Strive doesn't have. It already has this in its simpler characters like LK was saying in his Asuka video that a character like Baiken with simple tools still has a lot of complexity, and that the game still offers huge variety in situations(honestly, I don't think anyone above casual level would be playing the game if it didn't), but now with Asuka here's the complex moves, combinations, and crazy unique mechanics for the people who need it to be explicit.
@@gwen9939 i never understood any kind of hate surrounding strive,its objectively good and has proven so with so many newcomers feeling comfy with it.I'm a very casual player that loves fighting games and theres a difference in a game like this and DnF duel which to me personally didn't catch that charm (since it lacks motion inputs for example,just ruins the whole point of fighting games).The only players that hate strive are probably people that have nostalgia goggles stuck on them
@@dorkyshark2911 A lot of haters seem more obsessed with things that are often just arbitrary barriers of entry into a game. Sure, variable getup timings, unique gatlings, air teching, game defying character mechanics, etc., have value(and the last one is still decently present), but there's a trade-off in how much value it actually brings to a game vs the burden put on the player to learn them, and I think developers looked at past games and said "how can we create similar experiences without relying on mechanics we've added only to built complexity", or like, maintain a variety in interesting situations with less distinct systems to prop it up, and imo Strive is a masterclass on how to do that.
Both when it came to gimmicky characters like Xrd Bedman and Jack-O that go from oppressive to being pure knowledge checks to necessitating learning system mechanics like just defend to get out of certain common situations, are examples of of designs that were maybe more of burden to learn without providing a big payoff in interesting things they would bring to the table. "On paper" they add complexity, but is the complexity interesting? The changes to IB and IBFD makes it so much more interesting, and both harder to utilize and with more interesting use-cases to explore, and how Bedman and Jack-O got changed similarly reflect that I feel. I think there's value in both ways of designing a game(and why going back to those is still interesting), but there's a different equally valid approach that I think Strive represents.
And the crazy part is I PROMISE you none of those people are going to even try and touch this character 😂
Ya all are so wrong it's crazy. No one complains about different wake up timings. What we complain about is gutted move lists, gatlings and slow airdash. Small movelists are bad for an obvious reason, new gatlings are bad because they limit the combo variety for no reason, while slow airdash is bad because moving around is not as intuitive and also because zoners exist

There are restrictions on which spells he can special cancel, and they're probably not fast enough recovery to get a low or overhead out after unless you were already close enough that they could've mashed and hit you.

@@twopunchman9598 how do you know that? Looks like every spell can be cancelled into regen mana or bookmark and those should be cancelleable with dashing or buttons, maybe even jumping
