Comparing him to an MMO character is pretty on point. It feels like you logged into your friend's level 140 character in an MMO you've never played and you go do your first raid.
One thing I don't see anyone mentioning: Yes he has big massive list of spells he can use, but what nobody has pointed out is that they specifically call out him having moves on 4 and 6 for all non-Dust attack buttons; he will have hands down the most command normals out of any character that's ever added to the game unless they start using 1 or 3 normals again
Ahead of SF6's release, I've been getting a bunch of fighting games I missed out on (most recent was KI) and was pondering Guilty Gear Strive until I noticed Mortal Kombat XL on sale. Never played a GG, but was into the original MK trilogy back in the day, so I'm hoping the MKX file isn't still bloated with MK11 ads 😂

Looking back, it is kind of crazy to think of how after after Season 3 wrapped up and how we are waiting for the Season 4 characters to drop, Asuka is likely the most complicated character we'll get on the roster. Probably fair to say Venom isn't going to be too complicated when he plays pool, the Anime-specific character, who knows what they can do, and I doubt they would want Lucy (GG's first guest character) to be a nightmare to play as. That and also reflecting on how we did see Asuka in EVO's Top 6 (actually taking out Leffen and his gun). It is going to be fun to see where things will stand as we move forward, but probably fair to say that it likely won't get any crazier than That Guy with the kicks.
As somebody who mained Answer for a bit, Asuka looks way more complicated. I'd call Bedman Xrd's biggest brain character. Otherwise nobody in Xrd or Strive is really too out there, so a character like this coming along is really cool!
When you look at it all together, only like half of Asuka's spells seem like they're offensive moves. The rest of them are all about manipulating his bookmarks and mana. I suspect he's probably easier to grok than he seems at first glance.
Asuka seems a lot like how Bedman works in Strive, just conceptually. Here's this character with some decent normals and only like 4 special moves. But each of those moves has approximately 4 billion ways to use them because two of the specials exist to alter the other two and blah blah blah
GGS players: can we get someone a little more complicated? *lights dim* Daisuke: Son, you know once you start there's no going back... This mean total commitment. Once you begin the path, there is no leaving the path. Are you sure you're ready for that? I mean really ready?..
Hero in smash plays almost like that. You gotta use a special to open a menu with spells and pick the best one, or cancel to use again , while managing mana.

Daisuke: B E T

A good guilty gear player can learn this but can't learn how to properly shave
I want to see a pro TCG player who's also good at fighting games main him. I want to know how they'd apply TCG principles to this character.
While watching that Starter Guide I audibly sighed "Jesus Christ!" when the narrator started explaining that there are 3 different pools of spells and when the spell cheat sheet came up.
I think Asuka will be okay to pick up as he only has a couple of inputs and most seem pretty safe from the gameplay, the complex part is doing any of his stuff well and memorizing the spells, test cases and what to cancel to when throwing spells, I know that my dumbass will accidentally sacrifice my health for mana when I don't need to and die from it
When designing Asuka, I'm pretty sure they just said, "what if we made a Warhammer 40k codex into a character?" And this is what they came up with.
Sounds like Cegorach and Tzeench had a hand in designing this character.
More like "what if we made a character that plays like Hisoutensoku"
Asuka: Its time to duel, Kaiba.
Sol: Who the hell is Kaiba?
Asuka: EXODIA, OBLITERATE!
Asuka is big brain and several things to keep track of he's a character with tools for every situation but with rng luck is the key but for me I make use of the cards in my hand
Hisoutensoku prepared me for this character
Asuka feels like a Xrd character that made into strive by mistake
i’d actually say blazblue tbh
that's what we like
@@crimson-foxtwitch2581 i thought about that too but blazblue always had unique characters. some more than others. this is more like bedman or jack-o level of gimmick
Oh man, I didn't realize they announced a sequel to Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories!
He made a good point near the end with the boss characters.
Even JP from SF6 falls into this, literally called "The Regal Businessman" and is a zoner that can hit you full screen
The fact that he can burn Tension OR LIFE to recover Mana and keep *DRAW MAHO CAADO!!!*
I'm glad that fighting games are finally providing a character that all the FF14 Raid Fanatics can finally play! Good on Arc Sys for bringing players in from all over!
"Try mixing the opponent up with forward and heavy slash. Or exhibitor metron" 😂😂
Looks like Strive took some notes from Hero in Smash Ultimate. Can't wait to see what high level Asuka play looks like
"I think I will turn this place INTO A VACUUM..."
They somehow made a character more complicated than Nine the Phantom
I guess he's the Eleven, then?
XD
This is the character that Desk would use and make up insane Touch of Death combos with.
Comparing him to an MMO character is pretty on point. It feels like you logged into your friend's level 140 character in an MMO you've never played and you go do your first raid.
One thing I don't see anyone mentioning:
Yes he has big massive list of spells he can use, but what nobody has pointed out is that they specifically call out him having moves on 4 and 6 for all non-Dust attack buttons; he will have hands down the most command normals out of any character that's ever added to the game unless they start using 1 or 3 normals again
I can finally count cards in a fighting game! Thanks Daisuka
Skill management: The character. That's pretty accurate. 😵
god his throw animation is so fucking cool
FINALY a Guilty Gear Character. Unique crazy mechanics, style and rocknroll.
Whenever Asuka +R uses a spell.... something good happens.
This character feels like the epitome of a half button press
Lmao
Ahead of SF6's release, I've been getting a bunch of fighting games I missed out on (most recent was KI) and was pondering Guilty Gear Strive until I noticed Mortal Kombat XL on sale. Never played a GG, but was into the original MK trilogy back in the day, so I'm hoping the MKX file isn't still bloated with MK11 ads 😂
This reminds me of that old visine commercial with the old guy with the glasses 🤓. It makes me fall asleep like he was Jigglypuff 😂. Shout-out to anyone sticking to this character and hope success for you .
That Man literally came to the game ready to duel with cards in hand. He's going to be a handful for both players..
This is gonna be that character that everyone tries very few main
Absolutely hit the nail on the head. They put a BlazBlue character in Guilty Gear Strive.
Dude looks so nutty, can't wait to try him out!
Also as a Leo main, I cry XD
The timing of that punish 0:39
As a mage main / faust main for all fighting games this seems great even though i haven't played strive in some time
"random bullshit go!" moment intensifies!
You know that meme when someone is trying to think and there's a lot of math equations appearing and fading everywhere. That's me with this character.
Super excited to hit up the Balance later to look up what my Asuka opener is along with finding out my BiS, pots, and optimal food.
*lights dim*
Daisuke: Son, you know once you start there's no going back... This mean total commitment. Once you begin the path, there is no leaving the path. Are you sure you're ready for that? I mean really ready?..
Thank God, i was waiting for this!
Hero in smash plays almost like that. You gotta use a special to open a menu with spells and pick the best one, or cancel to use again , while managing mana.
