the fact that i fully understood this character as soon as i was done with the guide EMPOWERS me. (its also a sign that the devs did a pretty good job of explaining the character)
I'm already thinking of the possibilities too. I'm excited. I think knowing how to follow up his spells with a chant rella essentially or mana/card management will be how to pilot him.
due to the increased intentionality associated with their randomness, asuka only allows players to become "that man," rather than true "that guy" status.
1:19 the asuka we play as is a doppelganger. In the introduction, it said 'Asuka R. Kreutz', before becoming Asuka R#. The '#' means doppelkreutz, meaning its most likely a doppelganger of the real asuka, hence why the eye and flower colour are different.

MTG man. Draw cards, cast cards with mana, different mana costs per cards, cards can do damage, affect other cards, draw cards, or ramp mana. Decks have purposes behind them. Supers are ranged wallbreak affected by staves, and a mass draw/mill/search.
So Faust having his Item Pull be a pure RNG pull is a mercy in disguise. Imagine having to plan and change the items you get from Item Pull in advance and on the fly. That's a good chunk of Asuka's gameplan in a nutshell.
Faust: RNG full of betrayal (Trumpet. Bomb. Nanner peels. Trumpet. Trumpet.) Asuka: RNG full of homies (everything) Yes, Asuka has a lot more to manage, but man, Asuka makes Faust look like a joke character by comparison.
Dedicated keepaway of Nine the Phantom, tied to Hero's spell list that he maintains like Phoenix Wright, with his own drive gauge that turns him into Roll when dry. Foolishly complicated and pretty darn cool.
I say it like this, you need constant mana to throw constant crap at people. You just get to bookmark what that crap is and the speed it’s thrown at, confusing yourself and the opponent. Faust isn’t the only one that will destroy neutral now. XD
it took almost 2 years but I think I finally found my main, I've been jumping between characters since the game came out not knowing who to play, and asuka is the first character in all of strive that, as soon as I saw him, I just immediately felt like I had to play him. Unfortunately I don't own any of the dlc, and I don't like buying characters individually but nobody besides asuka really interests me from season 2 except for maybe bedman, so it'll be a hard buy but I want to play him so bad
well technically its way more specials. Three ways to get mana, four ways to bookmark or cast, and three different test case switches. So its more like 14 specials
I wonder if you'll have players maining different spellbooks at some point. I'm personally most excited for the third one, but zoners might like the first, and players who like mixups might prefer the second. Or maybe most people will just hop around.
I personally don't see how he is confusing at all. The breakdown made it clear. The only thing most players need to know how each move works. Playing him and see g his normals are very basic. Just like in your thumbnail using Hero from smash he is far from hard. His type of character is fake difficulty. The only type of thing you'll have to worry about is like I said before knowing how each move works and placement other than that both him and hero are simple fundamentally Regardless this was still a nice analysis 🔥

There is one minor but important difference: Asuka's spells are organized in decks, so you can use TCG skills to manage the RNG. Hero's spells are (almost) entirely random.
you either turn your opponent into a third rate duelist with a fourth rate deck
or you become the third rate duelist with a fourth rate deck
Yu-Gi-Oh experience in a nutshell.
ApologyMan's single braincell working overtime here
You can say Asuka "cracked" his last braincell
I like that his second super is him going "Hold up, I got a meme for this"
the fact that i fully understood this character as soon i was done with the guide scares me.
You may have wizard genes.

I think Daisuke looked at Goldlewis, who he had no hand in designing, and was like "neat, one special move with a billion effects. Hold my beer."
He only needed one motion input and some command inputs for all this complexity, this is clearly only a fraction of Daiksuke Ishiwatari's terrifying power

Fausts power in previous GG's has made people forget, he was always a joke character.
asuka is the only character that can pause the screen during tournament and look at his inventory essentially
Great video ApologyMan
i'm curious if the spell cast without mana is a way to get frame advantage, like gunflame feint and order sol's charge
