I feel like it’s kind of dangerous and wild to think only high tier characters can win. Sol and Gio can theoretically be mid tier, but that doesn’t make them bad and you can still succeed with them.

Sol is incredible, it's just that so many people can't block and swing wild with him. Sol unironically requires a bit more big brain moves to play well compared to the upper tiers. I say this as a Nago main where my main objective against Sol is to FD and stay outside of his range with my big stupid normals. Meanwhile the Sol on the other end of that has to know how to punish or he's just eating mix and oki the whole set.
Legit I only really started really playing neutral in strive playing sol, also he is a character that depends everytime to interact with your opponent, great character to teach this things
Yea, agree. I wish his inputs were different thou, i just can't get used to them. Keep getting wild throw when it is not needed, have hard time using bandit revolver as well because it overlaps withother buttons. At least Baiken, Ky and Sin work perfectly for me, so im fine with just watching good Sol players.
Sol is quite a good character but Mocchi played out of his mind. I stayed up all night to watch this live from Spain and it was the best tournament I've ever seen for strive.
Sol is a good character but Mocchi is a god player and he can push it to the limit for sure. That said I still have been playing Sol since release and it's still fun, I do kinda miss the extra tools like 6P wallbounce for routing, lost a little bit of extra fun with that.

patience and a cool head won this tournament. nbnhmr's a great player but he fumbled mocchi's runback super hard and mocchi just has way more experience managing tournament stress than nbnhmr does. you can literally see the panic and fatigue growing in nbnhmr as the tournament goes on. funnily enough, i think umisho got the worst seed in this tournament. out of the characters to get put up against, leo and ram probably have the easiest time dealing with chaos than any other character that was present in this tournament 11:00 not only that but europe has a better argument for balancing sway than na has now 13:23 bro, that is 40% on a blood level 2 nago wtfdym "that's off of a volcanic viper rc" ky gets the same damage off of his dp and 50 meter in that situation 14:45 that is probably a clean hit moment right there so i don't think i can defend that. unless it wasn't actually clean hit in which case most other character's supers would have killed there. 15:24 mocchi is actually built different. it wasn't actually frame perfect cuz br2 isn't very active but since br is a manual rekka, mocchi may as well have. 18:22 a more blatant disinformation campaign i have yet to see 18:34 the only argument you have here is that clean hit is next to get the axe. which i would frankly be surprised if that doesn't end up being the case

I suspect the main reason people think he's mid tier now is that everyone got used to him. He's still nutty and can deal with pretty much the entire roster, but people have seen him enough to know what he does. He was public enemy #1 for a while for a reason. Edit: He has been nerfed a fair few times, but from what I've seen it didn't drastically change how good he was, just made him more balanced. Other characters got buffed to high heaven, so there's also that.

Dominate is a bit of a strong term, lol. When you win a tournament with triple raw command grab that speaks more of the player being amazing than anything about the character.

@@weebtrash3376 turns out the person who’s played Sol for like 20 years is pretty good with him, lol. That said he DID also dodge all of Sol’s bad matchups in this bracket. Honestly this whole bracket was really weird. All the midrange characters knocked each other out and then that just left the rushdowns. Nago sol was the hardest matchup mochi played and it isn’t THAT bad + he had the losers bracket revenge energy for the second set. Note the 3-0 that happened the first set. Overall Sol is fine, but in a game where we’re buffing HC, ram, and baiken, NERFING sol is just insane. He’s fine, but after the top five sol’s the falloff is HARD.

Skyll sent NBNHMR to losers, and Mocchi lost the first fight, but then kind of tore through losers bracket, reverse 3-0 against NBNHMR. TY I believe didn't drop a set till Mocchi reset the bracket. Maybe dominate is a strong word, but I'd call their performance clinical for the most part. Also, yeah, the random draw screwed me out of matches I'd have liked to see. Happy Chaos and Ramlethal (and maybe Leo to a lesser degree) are characters people think are game defining in the west, but aren't seen as being on that level in Japan. I would have loved to see more matches between the western players and the Japanese ones, but they all ate each other on the same side of the bracket. Well, there's still EVO Japan, at least.

The fact is, imo, na looks only at na. In the last year they looked simply at their meta and on how they value the characters. If we look at jp and emea tournaments we can see tons of different characters. My point is that atm, practically any character (except for Sin cos his moves are undertuned and even so he can be dangerous nonetheless imo) can cook.
This isn't me claiming to be the most elite player in the world, and the stress/pressure of the moment may definitely be getting to these competitors but I swear a lot of these matches came down to just flat out bad decisions being made. Grabbing instead of jabbing, getting greedy near the wall, jumping for no reason, panic swings with long recovery moves whiffing, etc. But again, being in the moment itself is definitely a different beast than watching afterwards
Its all conditioning, these are monment to monment decisions that you are trying to learn and predict, they are not poor choices made in that monment, they were wrong, but not bad. Look at how sol plays, he is teaching you that jumping against him is bad, if you jump, he will get ya, so youre being trained that you cannot jump against this boi, and when youre scared to jump, and youre scared to wiff, then you just get chain ground grabbed.

It's kinda weird cause I'm a Xbox player coming into strive now that it's finally on my platform, I never got to experience Sol in any other patch than this current one and the character feels absolutely awesome great pokes, pressure tools, frames, combos, mix ups, reversals and a good super. This guy got it all and I love it. So the different perspectives on how long you've had the character in your hands and how long I've had it is interesting.
yeah he's overplayed as fuck because of his rep, the blood nerfs actually make you not wanna get blood now which is how it was supposed to work to begin with but my point still stands, 2s nerf, and beyblade nerf are also very notable as those are really his main neutral moves
