My 2019 Ford E450 Triton V10 in my class C RV with only 20K miles threw a flashing check engine light while we were bring my wife bad from open heart surgery , we had 600 miles to go, we started calling Ford dealerships driving down I95 heading back to Florida. The Ford dealerships do NOT service RV's is what they tell you when you call. They want you to take your RV to commercial service centers, which are far between and hard to get an appointments etc. So, we ended up driving 600 miles to home and I replaced the igintion coil in cylinder #2, fixed the problem. The question is, what did the unburnt fuel do to the cylinder and or the exhaust catalytic convertor and 02 sensors etc? She seems to run fine, no codes.

Hi James, I'm sorry to hear about your challenging situation. Driving with a misfiring cylinder can allow unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust, which might harm the catalytic converter and O2 sensors. Thankfully, if your RV runs fine now and shows no codes, you likely avoided major damage. Keep an eye on it, and consider having the exhaust system checked to ensure everything's in good shape. Wishing you and your wife all the best.

Is it good to replace the ignition coils as a "routine" maintenance, or are you better off just waiting for a code to appear? I'm about to change the spark plugs on my Infiniti with 150K miles on it, and was wondering if I should put a new set of ignition coils while I'm in there.
