I just punched a punching machine for the first time. Threw a textbook form left hook and got 850, then a right hook and only got 790. I think it was the direction of the wind or something cause I'm right handed.
*For some reason, my right cross worked better when I tried it yesterday. I didn't try the angled hooks, so will try those today and see how they go. Thanks for showing us the demonstrations*
Thank you for watching! I actually found out recently that the trick to to scoring higher on these punch machine things is to punch at an upward trajectory 😆.
@@coachpillowfists - I tested that and the classic kind of hook punch which is very telegraphic does work better than a cross and a proper hook. I didn't understand why the young skinny fellas were punching it harder than me haha.
Scary thing is a boxer can throw fast, hard accurate punches consistently and effortlessly as shown here. Majority of people need to load up heavy to hit these scores, probably miss a person and be very unbalanced afterwards. This guys shown why boxers are dangerous
These machines measure the velocity of the target moving back. So basically pushing. This differs from pro impact targets which don’t move, and measure the actual impact and force of the blow upon the target. They have these at the UFC PI in Vegas.
You're too technically sound to throw a crazy haymaker. Power out the a$$ in every punch you throw with a stupid high connect %. I'd say you won in every aspect of the video. Thanks for showing all that
You’ve got great form and crazy power with good technique, ngl tho on the haymaker you gotta just throw wild, like crazy telegraph, windup etc, with a step in and you’ll do a crazy number. If you wanted a real comparison that’s what 90% of ppl who don’t train do and it does get a way bigger number than most punches with good technique. Great video tho!
Very interesting. Exciting to watch! Never thought the left hook might be as powerful as the right hook as you can get more rotation into it and of course because it's the powerhand. Maybe it is because one throws the lead hook way more often?
Thank you for watching! The lead hook can certainly be as powerful as the rear hook if not more. And that is very good point, the lead hook usually does get thrown more often so the more practice could lead to more power 👊🏾
Man I wish I had you as a trainer you seem like a really nice guy and your form is outstanding. I don’t know the difference between cross and jab tho, your hand speed is so fast I can’t tell. Any pointers?
I appreciate it! The difference is that the jab is with the lead hand, and the cross is with the rear hand. In boxing, sometimes you'll hear the cross being referred to as the straight. Here's a video I did to help increase hand speed: ua-cam.com/video/eaVWZwmWLI8/v-deo.html
I usually score highest with a stepping straight right (or overhand right if the machine is too tall). I tend to land my foot when I land the punch though and I cover more ground with the step.
Very interesting ! Thank you for showing this. I have always tried to improve my hooks, becourse I think they are more effective than straight cross punches. Now I know that the angled hook is even better. The only bad thing is that those machines are quit expensive to play with😢
about the haymaker.... i think you didn't follow through which didn't allow it to show all of its power, while in fact a haymaker is always more powerful than a hook or cross ( and more telegraph as well)
I thought it would be the shift hook before I did this too! But you know what they say, power comes from ground up so it makes sense that you get the maximum power when your feet are planted.
I did 825 yesterday just standing still turned into a right cross. Ima try that step into a Angle and go faster and harder hopefully I’ll hit 850+ I’ll keep ya updated 👊
@coachpillowfists well then… I just hope that they have a label on the machine telling people what the good score is so we know if we’re strong or not.
Cool video. You have great technique but you couldve definitely got much higher or even the highest score if you just swung as hard as you could. My highest is usually just a right hook with a bit of a wind up, can get in the 900s with most machines but doubt I punch harder or better than you still 😅
It measures how fast the target moves when its punched like BTboxing said. This is determined mainly by the speed and weight of the punch. I don't think pressure or acceleration will make any difference to this
Exactly, there is a move detected sensor wich calculates the speed when the bag passes the sensor, you can easely fool the machine by playing and snap a card infront of the sensor.
But you didn't even follow through on the haymaker.. I am smaller than you, and have never been trained in any sort of fighting - and I consistently get 950+ on these machines by flailing my arms haymaker uppercut style 🤷♂️
The science behind these machines is simple: What happens is that you punch the hanging bag and then it flies back and hits a sensor placed behind and above the initial position of the bag. It's important to understand that the bag doesn't register your score. It's the sensor that registers it. The way to get the best score, is to just uppercut the sensor. Other than that, I recommend trying to hook the actual bag, instead of trying to hit it with a straight. All of the torque makes it a more powerful punch. You just have to make sure you get the angle right so the way the bag moves is exactly the same as the final vector of your punch when you make contact. Try this kind of punch with the right angle. You'll score 999. ua-cam.com/users/shortsyl66S30Mrrg?si=IImNPtxynUns-FFk
I understand your concern with that, but it's not that I didn't try as hard with it. I think I just threw it a little too textbook instead of winging it like a haymaker.
Dropping arcade science, you proved you have good ambidextrous striking.
I appreciate you, Rolando!

Punching upward angles vs lower angles on these machines is why the OH shows less force, it's inaccurate.
before i finish the video i want to predict that a stepping overhand right or a d'amato shift hook would be the most powerful
