Mrs. Cartwright is Glenda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. And, Nat King Cole was one of the most elegant and refined men of his time and one of the best from the early Jazz Age.
Cole was yet another smoker who paid for it with lung cancer (at 45). When he left hospital (briefly) after losing a lung, he quipped: "they'll be calling me 'One Lung Cole' from now on" but he only had weeks left.
What a wonderful and beautifully innocent movie. From a time when the heart was more important than an electronic device. I miss those days. Thanks for the upload. :)
Just a comment regarding the segment of his "show" at about the 11:50 mark of the film where Tom Breneman interviews a lady with the name of Marie Edgedaw from Cherry Valley. She was portrayed wonderfully by the actress Sarah Padden and I found her dialogue fascinating since I grew up in Southern California and was very familar with the area talked about Beaumont, Cherry Valley, Banning. If you're driving to Palm Springs, you would pass this area and the dialogue is exactly right about the geography so I definitely knew what "Marie Edgedaw" was saying was true! It's also very sad that Tom Breneman passed away not long after this film was made and in the prime of his career and life of an apparent heart attack at only 47 years old.

Everyone loved their neighbor? In what mythical universe? The Zoot Suit Riots and Belle Island Riots occurred in 1943. The US military was segregated until Truman issued his 1948 Executive Order. Most major cities were also highly segregated.
@@duke9555 I don't live in the States so maybe in that country people always hated, but in the early 1960s we knew all our neighbours and mothers always talked over the fences on laundry day. Neighbours actually were there for each other, feeding each other's pets when on vacation, giving rides when necessary, etc. Not everyone was sociable but far more than now. I think it is necessary for people now to think that world did not exist in order to actually keep their sanity.
