I learned to play this on the guitar, aged 10, in 1968. Later in my twenties, I sang it to my children every night, now in my fifties, my grandchildren demand this be sung at bedtime..... a lovely legacy to be handed down with treasured memories

I sung this to my first born to get him to sleep. I also sung this to my daughter the night before we left hospital without her and it played at her funeral. It's only recently I've been able to sing this to my youngest and it soothes him instantly. Such a beautiful piece.

My beautiful daughter loved this song when she was a small girl. She would ask me to play it and then would stand on my feet and we would dance. Fast forward to her wedding a few years ago. She danced the first dance with her new husband, of course, and then the DJ put on this song. She looked at me and i knew. I came up and we danced to Morningtown ride one more time. One of the sweetest memories of my life.

A few years ago in my musical theatre group we did music from music hall through to the 80s.
I had the pleasure with 3 of the men, Ed, Roger and Mike of being The Seekers, I had long hair then, and was a lot thinner.
We sang snippets of the songs, but this one in full.

Hi, I am English with some Australian ancestry. I know the song so well because Grandma used to sing it to me when I was small. I recently found her grave after the church yard she was buried in become overgrown & vandalised. This song always reminds me of her but because of a family feud I never got to say goodbye to my nan but I have fond memories of her and this song

Puff The Magic Dragon, Morningtown Ride, Georgy Girl, World of Our Own etc. Imagine my joy when my 11 year old daughter started playing this on her flute as they had been learning it at school. Like many people think that the music these days lack substance, I can tolerate so much of the "music" today but only in small doses. Shame that the kids these days will never know what life was like back in the 60's, 70's life was so much easier and calmer now it is just anger and hatred and horrid music..

I sung this song in my pyjamas with all my classmates from school up on a stage in the annual school concert - which was at a local hall not the school as I recall. It was UFTG Primary School in Victoria, Australia in the early 1970s sometime. I remember thinking it was very exciting to be performing in pyjamas (because it was unusual obviously - I was about six I think)!!! I loved this song.

This song takes me back to junior school. We had a lady teacher who played guitar and would get us to sing along to this and other tunes. I don't remember her as being the most likeable of people but somehow turned into a human being whenever she picked up her guitar!

Yesterday {May 14th, 2013} the Seekers lead singer, Judith Durham, suffered a brain hemmorhage in Melbourne, Australia...
According to oldiesmusic(.)com her condition is 'lucid and comfortable'...
May God bless her and grant her a full recovery...

No song ever recorded by anyone, let alone The Seekers, makes me feel more nostalgic than “Morningtown Ride”. It brings memories flooding back from youth, my mum, & god knows what else all sadly gone. Those three lads in The Seekers are superb musicians in their own right, of course, but just about everybody agrees that Judith Durham has the greatest, most stunningly beautiful voice in the history of recorded sound. If anyone doesn’t think so they must be a tone-deaf idiot!.

Love singing this to my babies. My oldest is 21 now, but he got it as a baby and my 3 yr old still loves it at bedtime.

My mum sang this to my brother and me as a lullaby when we were little ... now my almost 4 year old nephew sings it at the top of his voice whenever he hears it - it's become a lullaby for him, too.

Great memories of us sat in the back of dad's Humber Super Snipe, all singing along to this wonderful song. Must admit it brought a tear to my eye.

Hi my super snipe brother. Thanks for your lovely comment. And every car should have fold down picnic tables in the back. Shinny wooden ones. We thought we were the bees knees.

Every song that the Seekers recorded was great -- they never had a clunker. Wish there would be a resurgence of this kind of touching folk music...

Abberationify : So well spoken. I always thought Judith Durham was beautiful. It was her talent, charm, grace, smile, personality, femininity, that made her beautiful to me !! I am glad she found happiness for 26 years with Ron Edgeworth, and that she reunited with Athol, Bruce, and Keith in 1992, to give us fans worldwide the pleasure to continue hearing her beautiful voice. The best female voice, ever, in my opinion! Tim in Midland, Texas

My mum used to sing this to me when I was little to get me to sleep. Some of the best childhood memories I have :'). Now when I listen to this song it makes me emotional because it's such a beautiful, sweet song. :)

I saw them perform last night in Adelaide for the 50th Anniversary Tour. Absolutely incredible! How is it possible for Judith at 70 to have a voice as good now as in the 1960's ? Yes, none better, even now.
