love the setup. One word of advice if I may in installing the front coil springs. I used to do it the same way you did in the video. I learned from a seasoned mechanic a safe and faster way of removing and installing the springs without taking off the complete spindle assembly. I learned by placing a jack under the control arm and removing the rear bolts on the arm, safely lower the control arm and remove the spring and the reverse to install. faster and safer.
I'll take that into account for the next one. Thanks
Beautiful setup!
Appreciate it man. Hopefully it will be sitting on all 4s soon, to see how it's going to look all together.
i saw your turbski vid and have been watching all the vids i missed. Man. you got it going on, ya heard. Im glued to your vids
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I have a lot more coming.
Looking good 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you. A lot more to come.
Looking clean AF fam!!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁
I appreciate it. Still a little ways to go before she's done.
Good job bro 👍
Appreciate it.
A clean frame does it for me. The goodies on top of it is a win.
Oh yea everything has been touched on it. Everything from the bottom up.
Very informative video. Got a shipment of BMR control arms (hardware too) due to touch down this wknd.
Thanks, I try to show what a lot of other channels just skip over. But I think warren gbody has a video showing a better way of getting the front springs in if you went that route instead of coilovers.
@@Dashsgarage Stock shocks n springs for now, but setting things up for air if I chose to go that route later. Not much content on my channel, but it’ll come!
@@PrydeWater901 the springs are definitely a little bit of work to get in so be careful when you get to it.
They had to shim tf out of my cutlass with aftermarket a arms. I went with Spohn performance upper n lower and Viking coil overs umi bump steer kit
Nothing is torqued down until I get a little bit of weight in it but I'm sure I'll have to use a few once I'm ready to get everything aligned.
@@Dashsgarage no doubt still looks God you can’t even tell they are in there. Me get it in there has a vid talking about some shims that are solid 1 piece that go across both sides they look super clean
@@jermaineknowles87 thank you. Just wait for the next video, its going to look even better
Thanks for the video, I see you have Colorado plates hanging? I’m in the springs & I’m putting my g body cutlass together- any chance you’d be willing to lend some advice on certain things?
Yea any questions you have feel free to ask. I'm covering pretty much the whole build. Anything I haven't done you want to see me mover when I do I can do that also.
Good to know, I should have my baby down here by January, that’s when I’ll be needing some guidance-I’ll definitely be tapping in with you. Appreciate you getting back to me!
@@MrDubl09 no problem, if your on Facebook check out Colorado G-body's they are pretty helpful too.
Those the blazer drop spindles? Or just regular ones? I ordered all my umi stuff a month or so ago and am still waiting lol found your videos from one of the gbody groups on Facebook.
Just the regular spindles, did a video last week on them/the brakes. You must have ordered directly from them. I ordered mine from summit got them in a week, but they were showing as the last one in stock anywhere.
@@Dashsgarage okay I’ll give that video a watch. Yea I get all my stuff through a dude in the groups. His prices are about $50 cheaper than summit and he doesn’t charge tax.
@@firlanedrummer87 its good to have a good connection. I'll keep an eye out on Facebook for your updates. I'll be covering the whole build and try to post at least once a week.
@@firlanedrummer87 link?
Hey man looking at adding the same front suspension, did you have any trouble using the blazer spindles on the gbody ball joints. The taper the same as the old gbody ball joints?
No problems, everything worked together like it should. Just a heads up the springs on g-bodys are a pain to install. Depending on your budget and goals for the car I'd suggest stepping up to coilovers fot ease of installation alone.
@@Dashsgarage I appreciate it man! Headed to the pick and pull to snag some blazer spindles today for my 79 Malibu. Some good looking whips you got man keep it up!
@@rollincoal2003 thanks, I appreciate it. Just remember with the blazer spindles it's from the 2wd ones not the 4x4 there is a difference.
Hey I need help. You got UMI and a monte. What shims are you using to achieve the +5 caster and -.5 camber
I haven't put any shims in just yet I was waiting until I got some weight in the car. But I believe hody shims are the same as they use for the control arms. Not 100% sure but look the same. I'll probably take mine to get an alignment before driving it and have a shop get them right.
The original upper control arms are shimmed at the bolts are the umi upper ones shimmed also?
I'm sure once I put in a motor and transmission in and weigh down then car it might need some. But as it sits now I don't have any on there.
umi parts look like good quality, spring isolator on top of spring only?
Thanks, and yea I just ran one on the top. I think factory is that way too.
I'm really curious how the UMI suspension performs in the mona Lisa I'm currently trying to decide between UMI and QA1 suspension for 81 Grand Prix I'd appreciate your feedback on the UMI kit
Hopefully, in the next week or so , she will be out of the garage and get a first drive with her.
@@Dashsgarage nice I've enjoyed watching you build her
@tobiastackitt2399 thanks, I appreciate your support. And I've had fun doing it.
What size upper ball joint did you install?
Just used the ones that came already installed with the kit.
Did you have to use shims for the upper control arms
I might have to. Noting is torqued down until I get some weight in the car.
Did you still have to use the shim when you installed the upper control arms?
You will have to re-shim it when you go to do an alignment.
@@Dashsgarage Ok, thank you
@@user-iq8et7fs4n no problem, I just didn't do it at the time because there was no weight in the car.
@@Dashsgarage I feel you, I'm just starting with my build. I got an 87 MC. I also saw you had the spindles with the hubs, I was thinking about doing that but I kinda want to keep the stock ride height. Great videos and great information.
@Connie Henry good luck on your build hope some of my videos can help out along the way. I don't believe the blazer spindles effect ride height, just allow for a brake upgrade.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Just trying to pass on what I learn along the way that a lot of other channels don't cover.
Just curious. why regular spring/shock vs coilovers?
Why not. But really trying to build somewhat of a budget friendly car, I can always swap out to coilovers down the road if I go 22's on the car to get a better ride height but with the 20's and the 2 inch Drop from the suspension I think it will sit right.
Also at the time this was the last complete kit available in the country from any of the major companies.
@@Dashsgarage I did notice umi kits seem to be geared to standard springs. I was going to use stock control arms and coilovers then maybe do tubulars later.
@@cuzz63 I know umi test their products, I didn't want to go too overbroad for just a street car not purposed built for anything specific. The kit was less then trying to piece it all together separately.
@@Dashsgarage yea, I get it. my car is just a cruiser and show car and my control arms are painted and look good so I didnt really see the need to change them...I was thinking coilovers for ride height adjustability.
If they are painted/look good and handle nice already you should be good. But I can see if you wanted to adjust the ride height I'd say coilovers are the way to go.
