Mdm Yeo at 81 years old, look amazingly healthy and strong at this age. I thought she was in her 60s. I wish her well for her future and to have a good shelter with her partner. As for Mr Tok's case is because of the rules setting. Expect him to go back to Philippines? Could he afford? Then what they expect him to do there to survive? Singapore is his home, they should allow him to rent in.
Darius is so young and he shouldn't continue like this forever! His journey ahead is way so long and hope he will work slightly harder to fix things up!

Being homeless is a tough situation. My family and I were homeless in my last year of school. Financial problems. My mom had borrowed money for friends who promised to pay her back, they never did. Family never helped. A few friends helped but only for a short time and because money ran out. These were people that my mother helped often. It was a tough year. God is faithful. I managed to finish school with all that stress and get a job and place to stay for me and family. We started over. We had lost and sold everything. The most painful thing was giving our dog away. He cried so much. 22 yrs later I still cry when I think of him, that hurt the most.
Less than 1000 homeless in a city the size of Singapore is actually pretty good statistically compared to even most developed rich cities around the world.
Bless these people. No one asks to homeless. People who work on these areas are doing their best. I feel for the elderly who are homeless. They should be given a higher priority, including families. I think there should be places that the government sets up that are run by homeless people for the homeless. This will give them a chance to work and earn their way. Many of these people are hard working and have skills, we should provide a safe space for them to do this. Bless them all and I hope they all find permanent homes soon. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
This is very sad! My heart just breaks seeing this. I am South African citizen, I worked in Singapore many years ago. Its such a beautiful state and when I was there, there were no homeless people. Its so sad to see people there without a home. I can only pray that the Singapore government (which has always been a very good one) will assist homeless people to be housed. I wish I were there to also help and assist in whatever way I can. Maybe I will do that in the near future.
There should have camera in the washing machine room to know who is telling the truth ....and in the shelter they need camera in order to know the truth of the environment and people who are living there ....
Roselan seems like a control freak. When your dealing with older people you have to be more respectful. So a 60 + yr old man that is obviously not in his prime health punched a very fit 50 yr old? Something isn’t adding up. Roselan’s attitude clearly shows that he’s got major control issues.
My rankings for this episode: 1. Mdm Yeo 2. Raihan + family - I applaud their courage for saying no to the abusive person and leaving without bringing much with them 3. Tok - seems like a person set in their ways.. then again he is in his late 60s 4. Roselan - something about him that doesn't seem right, he doesn't smile. Have to give him props for asking for permission and accepting the answer. 5. Darius - hopefully he learnt a lesson after being discharged. The rules for the shelters are there to ensure least disruption for users as explained by the staff member. A big thumbs up for Anthea, seems like she really loves her job.
Personally I would put Darius above Roselan. Roselan feels like that kind of manipulative guy somehow. They are way more toxic than the kind of clear rule breaker Dairus is.
Yeah I really dislike Roselan, something tells me he knows he's being favorited by Edward so he's misusing Edward's trust on him and the power Edwrad has placed upon him. Mr Tok doesn't seem problematic I mean Mr Tok already washes his clothes outside since he says someone keeps stopping the machine so why would he try to wash it on Sundays
No it is not ridiculous. These government agencies are only following the leads: get the old and poor (be it wealth/ health/ contribution etc) out of Singapore. Invite the young and rich to stay.

I have difficulty empathizing with Darius. He seems to have difficulty adhering to rules. And what was he doing outside after 10.30pm? Anyway, he is already suffering the consequences, so no judgement. On the other hand, i iust feel for Nabillah and Raihan. The siblings and mum were under tremendous stress from a controlling dad. And they were forced out of their house. And they seem to be real fine kids. Aiyoh.
Looks like Darius may have ADHD and/or mental illness. His behaviour needs to be diagnosed and he may need medication to moderate his extreme impulses. I know becase i know a boy just like that. Medication helps but often they also refuse to take it 🤦♀️.
Raihan is smart because exercise actually produce good mood hormones. It also make him more healthy. Heartache for him to have toxic father. Prayers go to him and his siblings and mother. 😢
Agree. A bad spouse can cause a lot of harm to a family. Wish him and sister and mum all the best for the future . Hopefully HDB will allocate them a rental flat on their own once new rental blocks are ready. The pandemic caused housing issues as well. Hopefully hdb can catch up quickly on building new rental flats as well as bto.

900 homeless for a city of 5.5 million is crazy good though. My city, which has a population of 60,000 and is relatively rich, has around 100 homeless people. Singapore has around 6100 people per homeless person vs around 600 per homeless person in my city.

I hope Singapore Gov can provide a safety net for its most vulnerable citizens. Nothing fancy to encourage laziness, just somewhere to turn to during a time of crisis in this very prosperous country. I applaud CNA for paying attention to this social issue.
People really think this is like a reality tv show saying that the guy is favoured by Edward or wtv… the shelter would definitely have done their investigation and confirmed the incident before kicking anyone out… both parties at fault but no way there isnt some truth to the incident if it led to Mr Tok getting kicked out…
It's hard because the authorities can't force him to go for counseling, if he did not commit any crimes and is jailed or put in rehabilitation homes. The most the social workers can do is recommend assistance programs for him but he don't seem like one who will abide.
Pray that our homeless fellow Singaporeans will be able to have a shelter over them soon. Selflessness of these operators and social workers to help these bomeless people, kudos to them. Hope the government can have more resources to help these people, who are temporarily displaced. I am sure we all want to help, help those wbo are genuinely in trouble...and not having a shelter in times of need.

it is good thing to know the "HIDDEN SIDE" of any country. Once I thought that SG do not have this kind of homeless problem and was eager to go work there one day. Now I feel bless and appreciate everything I have😅
Kind of a weird take as every country in the world has a homelessness problem, even your own country and SG is one of the countries with the lowest % of homeless people in the world.
Technically as a Singaporean I’m homeless in Singapore too due to a bitter divorce and my ex not abiding my the judges rule to sell the house and return and CPE monies.. as a result, I’m living overseas where my salary can afford me a shelter over my head and food to eat at a fraction of the price of what the rental and living costs is in Singapore
It’s depressing and disappointing that how luxurious Singapore has been labelled globally and we still have poor citizens like them. The video can’t possibly mention everybody who doesn’t own a flat in Singapore and are struggling but I’m thankful that we’re still getting acknowledged to the fact that a part of Singapore like this exists.
Poor Darius. The way he "hmm" every time the worker asked him a question was sad. He's just a boy and he needs help and probably someone caring for him.😢 Where is his family anyway?
Pikapi, Your empathies seem misplaced. Darius seems to be a grown man. He comes across as a bum. Imagine earning sgd500 a month in 2023. Yet he has a girlfriend??? Lolz the girl must be blind!!! If you can't follow rules like Darius/want a clean new nice place like Roselan/want to live alone like Mr Tok or the old pakcik then you must have plenty of dough. This is tough Singapore,a demanding city state where money is everything. You need charity you shut up and just follow the rules of those who offer help. If you can't you pack up and ship out to live on the streets. Poor and needy yet so demanding!!!
Air ticket will def be an issue for him. On the other hand also there are people that have no property in SG or overseas which also means they are in a much more "urgent" situation than him in this case. There's really no perfect answer to this homelessness issue 😢 the government can't give them all they need if everyone starts losing their homes and using their $ mindlessly everyone would end up in these subsidized homes. These situations are hard to manage and the way they deal with it is to set strict laws and rules to try to prioritize the rough sleepers accordingly
Mr Tok is a pure Singaporean and he is right to choose retiring in Singapore. He is a professional truck driver and Singapore need such skillful men instead of hiring from outside.
I have watched many reports on homelessness that is a global phenomenon. They never interview the homeless people what they need. I like to hear from them directly. I asked some of them in NYC in 2017. They wanted jobs, highly paid ones in partucular.
I never though that there are homeless people and there is also poverty in Singapore. That what I knew is that Singapore a very rich first class country.
The uncle got evicted because of Roselan, why did the management decide so quickly to evict him? Nv talk out first? Or is it because Roselan volunteered to look after the place they sided him. Just doesn't make sense.
Roselan is clearly doing something to improve his living situation by working 12 hours a day. The old uncle is nice, but dude is a typical choosy boomer who prefers to relax instead of taking on whatever jobs available. I too would've picked Roselan in a heartbeat.

I hope all these homeless people in SG find a forever shelter. It is difficult to be homeless. Here in America, we have a lot of homeless people but this is so because they are hooked on drugs for most of them & refuse to get help.
It really reminds me of Taiwan. I do miss living there It's the organization and the peacefulness of living there Working there is very stressful but living there is quite good
I feel that although he has not adhere the rules ,but to kick him out is too harsh for him, he need someone to care for him , to counseling him, as there will less homeless outside. I don't think he want to be homeless, poor thing.😢I hope the centre can think about a solution instead of kicking out, in this city, there's no sympathy and always get kick out!
Pretty sure all the people who got into the shelters have social workers working with them. And the would have recommended any available counselling or assistance programs, that's the best they can do, they cannot force their clients to go. I know because I have an ill and handicapped parent, social workers will come personally to inform us of assistance programs and give us the application forms. Ultimately whether we sign up or not is dependant on ourselves.
A few years ago Singapore showed their country as Country of dreams and heaven with no slums or homeless or beggers. Now the reality of Singapore and it's life is being shown that it's not less to any of they under developed countries. When Singaporeans go to other countries they always take pictures of homeless, poor , slums and show to the world but they forget that their country is also same as others
I think the definition of homeless is a little broad here. The "homeless" in this documentary do not own a physical home, but they don't sleep on the streets, like the homeless in other countries. There are still real homeless people sleeping on the streets in SG, but it's so rare compared to other countries.
There's a very fine thin line between accepting your fate so you can move forward in life and getting used to your circumstances then never moving on from there. Most of them are in the 2 category & clearly doesn't have anyone significant in their life to help them believe that change is possible. Material gains can only go so far as harsh as it may sound. They need to trigger a change and endure that short period of suffering to move foward. That's how harsh life is and it's not any easier here in Singapore since humans are the only main resource.
While i do agree,Tok & Roselan just really need to forget it. Why make the situation worse. Both are arrogant. Tok thinking Crane Lifter will employ him at his age. Is Tok really that stupid. Crane lifter you need good eyesight. You are basically risking of mistake because of your poor vision. He can't even walk properly have the cheek to want crane lifter job. Why don't he work as guard, stall helper or other job that don't require too much strength.
I have come across some folks who live in one room rental flats. Some can be quite sad while others are well taken care off, either through financial aids by government and private organisations. Seen many squandered their money on liquor (get drunk), smoke or buying lottery. Makes you wonder if there are real poverty around. With regards to homelessness, I feel for them but at the same time, some of their issues are self created through making bad decisions or having social personality problems. With all the help rendered to them by the various agencies, hopefully it will give them a head start for a better future ahead. As in everything, it has to start from self and how determined one is to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
No money to put roof over their heads but got time and money to go gym and have gf? The time could have been used to work to earn extra income to solve their financial crisis. For sociopaths, following rules is very difficult...i can see how these charity refuges struggle with these types of personalities. The reason sociopaths are homeless is cos they cannot conform to socital rules and etiquettes. Then younadd the addicts and the people suffering from trauma due to abuse and its a complex mix of mental illnesses and conditions. I bow down to the carers that try and help ❤❤❤ God have Mercy on them ..Amen.
I wonder if the rules in the shelter are the same as in america Because from what I understand a lot of people who have options for shelters. They don't want to go there because they can't bring pets or they can't bring the girlfriends or whoever. I don't see that is being an issue. The rooms are small. I would imagine if you're living in a shelter in america They probably don't have the space for a pet In that case, keep in track of them and giving them to a non killed shelter would probably be the best until you could get your pet back
This is scary even with all rules like monthly check ups, luggage check ups, lock up checks felt like a prison to me. Rules in Singapore are very strict even for old ppl. I felt like lack of sympathy or compassion. Not even a single one has a friend there to take them in ?
Why scary? It's only fair to check that the tenants do not abuse or mess up the place, no dangerous or restricted items that could endanger or inconvenience other tenants etc. Want freedom can go sleep on the streets.

I thought Mr Tok had lived in Philippines for over 20 years ? That country is his second home and he got CPF payouts of $890 per month.
He has a house in the Philippines. He gets money from there. That's why they want him to return.
Darius is so young and he shouldn't continue like this forever! His journey ahead is way so long and hope he will work slightly harder to fix things up!
He is too rebellious. Perhaps re-enroll him in NS to learn discipline ?

it is his fault.
Darius is so much like my 2nd son who has 2nd child syndrom. I really feel for Darius. With love and attention, he will discipline himself. Take care dear❤
God bless the volunteers, who selflessly help the homeless
It's just for show.
Less than 1000 homeless in a city the size of Singapore is actually pretty good statistically compared to even most developed rich cities around the world.
It's exceptional really. But it makes sense for a place that selects for successful people.
This is really unfortunate but if you compare homeless people sleeping in subways in US and UK, Singapore gov is doing a good job.
👍
If you want to help, you can start with helping people in your own country. There are PLENTY of people in South Africa who can use help
Probably in an expat bubble
There should have camera in the washing machine room to know who is telling the truth ....and in the shelter they need camera in order to know the truth of the environment and people who are living there ....
The fact that these people look like my aunts and uncles make me sad. Praying for their lives to turn around🙏🏻

Roselan seems like a control freak. When your dealing with older people you have to be more respectful. So a 60 + yr old man that is obviously not in his prime health punched a very fit 50 yr old? Something isn’t adding up. Roselan’s attitude clearly shows that he’s got major control issues.
i mean, both parties were in the wrong, ros for scolding the elderly bc he was impolite, and the elderly for punching him
The way he rejected Roselan's CNY well wishes shows that the old man is no saint.

1. Mdm Yeo
2. Raihan + family - I applaud their courage for saying no to the abusive person and leaving without bringing much with them
3. Tok - seems like a person set in their ways.. then again he is in his late 60s
They are way more toxic than the kind of clear rule breaker Dairus is.
hey isn’t it a bit messed up to be ranking the people here? they’re not characters in a show, they’re real life actual people
I dont think it is appropriate to rank them, they are human beings too, like you and I.

How can a government agency tell a Singaporean to go back to another country and wait while applying for a rental unit?? Bloody ridiculous la😮
Because he is asking for stuff from the government. You want something, you be a good boy
the cost of living in phillipines is much cheaper and he has a house there during the waiting period
He has the option to sell his house overseas? Or even just retire there? He can use his CPF to easily fund a comfortable lifestyle in the Philippines?
No it is not ridiculous.
These government agencies are only following the leads: get the old and poor (be it wealth/ health/ contribution etc) out of Singapore.
Invite the young and rich to stay.
Not ridiculous. He has a house and daughter in Philippines. What's he doing back in Singapore anyway without anything to his name.

Maybe he has to work late and doesn't want to share his problems don't assume he's just a young punk
I wish I could personally help all these people. They really seem sweet
Raihan is smart because exercise actually produce good mood hormones. It also make him more healthy.

900 homeless for a city of 5.5 million is crazy good though. My city, which has a population of 60,000 and is relatively rich, has around 100 homeless people. Singapore has around 6100 people per homeless person vs around 600 per homeless person in my city.

You should help the unfortunate in your society too. Be happy, but be aware of your privilege and use it to help others.
There was a previous series which highlighted families living in rental flats similar to those mentioned by Roslan.
The living condition in Singapore way better than in Hongkong .

That's so ridiculous to ask him to return to the Philippines to wait...surely we can do more
Air ticket will def be an issue for him.
Yes, can't believe that's what the government agency say to our own fellow Singaporean. The person giving such advise also not right in the head

Pretty sure all the people who got into the shelters have social workers working with them. And the would have recommended any available counselling or assistance programs, that's the best they can do, they cannot force their clients to go. I think the definition of homeless is a little broad here. The "homeless" in this documentary do not own a physical home, but they don't sleep on the streets, like the homeless in other countries. There are still real homeless people sleeping on the streets in SG, but it's so rare compared to other countries.

As I watch, I see that the problem isn’t a lack of money, it’s a lack of proper attitude.

With regards to homelessness, I feel for them but at the same time, some of their issues are self created through making bad decisions or having social personality problems.
