Btw, lead has a 10% higher density than silver, so a silver bullet will have a little less mass than a lead bullet of identical dimensions. Pure silver is less malleable than lead and falls between lead and copper in terms of hardness so it will not break apart or expand as easily.
I have a lead mine on my property. (It's in a cave I found) Sometimes I find silver in it. From what I read about it, it's a pretty normal occurrence to find the two together.
Non American here, I know barely anything about guns, no idea what a grain is, no idea about bullet types, no idea what the letters mean (except in AR15 for all the wrong reasons) but these videos are so much fun, with such a likeable and funny host that I'm absolutely glued to them. Also exploding werewolf head is awesome.
A grain is an extremely minute unit of measurement. 1 gram is a little under 15 and a half grains. I assume that's why it's still used in American gunsmithing, since 1 gram of gunpowder is a big difference, but 1 grain is a relatively small difference.
Keep in mind that silver bullets don't just deal physical damage to werewolves. They also deal arcane damage, which is difficult to capture without a live werewolf.
It makes me really happy that he recovered most of the silver - I love Scott’s content, the channel seems to be doing well and hopefully he’s not hurting for money, but I always feel a little funny about waste for amusement’s sake. I’m glad he got most of it back.

Depends on whether your story treats silver as a poison for werewolves or as an anti-magic element. In the latter case, the silver lets you overcome the werewolf's 'magic shield' and the penetration is the damage inflicted.

There's a trick to swinging a hammer overhand like that: bring it all the way around in a full circle and hit the target on the second downward stroke, not the first. It's a trick used by circus / amusement park personnel to ring the bell every time on the strength test machine. You would have made that dummy EXPLODE. :)

Honestly, I think you would want to have a silver-plated, or otherwise coated bullet, when shooting at a werewolf. That way, the silver would not just punch straight through, like we saw with these bullets, and instead would be left behind inside the body to continue to apply the magical damage over time effect against the werewolf. I'd go for pellets, like buckshot, personally.
Pure silver currently costs around $0.76 gram, a lvl 3 metal plate costs ~$60 on the low end. I'm not sure catching all the silver makes the most financial sense (290 grains = 19 grams, so less than $15 for the BMG), but I know I would want to keep them as a souvenir or for including with random merch! That USCCA self-defense insurance policy isn't going to help you if you get charged with a crime as insurance companies cannot under any circumstances defend you against the crime that you have been charged with or a self-defense shooting that you are being charged with as a crime. Just saying, I have self-defense coverage but it's not through USCCA, however I am also thinking about going a different route called Attorneys On Retainer

Silver is about five times harder than lead, which is why these rounds hold up better than your standard lead bullets. Also makes it better for getting through that tough werewolf hide!
@@somecsguy9824should still affect it enough. The rifling is hardened steel and the bullet is traveling fast so it is heating up while it’s sliding through the barrel so it should be able to get enough spin especially if shot from a rifle.

I suspect that the silver part doesn't really matter if you're gonna be shooting a werewolf in the head point blank with a 50bmg . The muzzle on muzzle blast seems to have taken care of things

I’ve seen a documentary about silver bullets. The conclusion was they have terrible accuracy and just go right through instead of stopping and expanding. So I pretty much knew you’d get the results you got.
Makes sense. Silver is a pretty soft metal, with a Brinell hardness number of just 24.5, but it's still significantly harder than the lead alloys used in modern bullets, which typically run between 15 and 20.
The USCCA's "Liability insurance policy" has a clause that does not pay out if you are criminally charged. Since being criminally charged is what a lot of people who use a gun in self-defense are concerned about, the USCCA might not be who you think they are when you need them.
Which is a big problem, definitely, but is it surprising? I have to imagine that the onus of showing you were under dire threat and had to shoot someone for self-defense reasons falls on the victim. And proving that can be difficult unless there's a ton of witnesses to say the person shot was acting erratically or was armed & dangerous to show clear need.

@@knrz2562 Brass casings are often reused to make ammunition at home. This is actually much cheaper than buying factory new ammunition. Reusing projectiles is not a thing generally, as they are both harder to recover and usually deformed at minimum.
@@KevBotM Depends, if the range allows lead it used to get collected, melted down and recast for shooting or sold to scrap dealers. Not sure how well that works on lead free ammo, and of course jacketed rounds you need to separate the jacket first but recasting rounds is very much a thing especially for folks with rarer caliber rifles since they often need to cast their own since they can't source ammo frequently, just getting/making the molds is a challenge.

There is a certain criteria that must be met to ensure no case ruptures but with how pricey ammo is, it’s becoming more common to reload your own ammo, especially niche or expensive ammo

According to the book "Monster Hunter International", it's cheaper to make regular bullets with silver powder suspended throughout (called sintered metal). They also give better ballistic results.
Oregon trail loads silver lead alloy bullets that have very good ballistics for lead alloy. They're also fairly hard, so you can drive them faster in a carbine without the need for a gas check. In rifle calibers, you shouldn't definitely use a gas check for the increased pressure.

This is why, if you're read the Monster Hunter International books from Larry Correa, they used .45 hollow points with a silver ball embedded in it and .308 with a silver core penetrator.

Silver is about five times harder than lead, which is why these rounds hold up better than your standard lead bullets. Also makes it better for getting through that tough werewolf hide!
It being so much harder also makes the bullet less accurate because the rifling doesn't affect it as much.

@@somecsguy9824should still affect it enough. The rifling is hardened steel and the bullet is traveling fast so it is heating up while it’s sliding through the barrel so it should be able to get enough spin especially if shot from a rifle.

I suspect that the silver part doesn't really matter if you're gonna be shooting a werewolf in the head point blank with a 50bmg . The muzzle on muzzle blast seems to have taken care of things
the Silver .50 BMG is what you use on a Were-tank, manned by a Werewolf crew. and i swear the Serbu RN-50 is really just good for exotic .50 rounds.

I’ve seen a documentary about silver bullets. The conclusion was they have terrible accuracy and just go right through instead of stopping and expanding. So I pretty much knew you’d get the results you got.
Makes sense. Silver is a pretty soft metal, with a Brinell hardness number of just 24.5, but it's still significantly harder than the lead alloys used in modern bullets, which typically run between 15 and 20.
I saw an article about silver bullets a while back, and they came to the same conclusion.

Which is a big problem, definitely, but is it surprising? I have to imagine that the onus of showing you were under dire threat and had to shoot someone for self-defense reasons falls on the victim. And proving that can be difficult unless there's a ton of witnesses to say the person shot was acting erratically or was armed & dangerous to show clear need.

Ever recover a bullet and reload it on the range? You’ll probably destroy the rifling, but it would be interesting to see how many times you could catch and re-fire the same bullet.
It would be very expensive to refill a bullet with gunpowder and reshooting it over and over?!.
@@knrz2562 Brass casings are often reused to make ammunition at home. This is actually much cheaper than buying factory new ammunition. Reusing projectiles is not a thing generally, as they are both harder to recover and usually deformed at minimum.
@@KevBotM Depends, if the range allows lead it used to get collected, melted down and recast for shooting or sold to scrap dealers. Not sure how well that works on lead free ammo, and of course jacketed rounds you need to separate the jacket first but recasting rounds is very much a thing especially for folks with rarer caliber rifles since they often need to cast their own since they can't source ammo frequently, just getting/making the molds is a challenge.
@@knrz2562there is a very devout group of gun owners called reloaders that reuse spent casings and even make their own bullets. There is a certain criteria that must be met to ensure no case ruptures but with how pricey ammo is, it’s becoming more common to reload your own ammo, especially niche or expensive ammo

According to the book "Monster Hunter International", it's cheaper to make regular bullets with silver powder suspended throughout (called sintered metal). They also give better ballistic results.
Oregon trail loads silver lead alloy bullets that have very good ballistics for lead alloy. They're also fairly hard, so you can drive them faster in a carbine without the need for a gas check. In rifle calibers, you shouldn't definitely use a gas check for the increased pressure.
But only the MCB gets those bullets

Hi Scott, you don't want the bullet to pass thru the werewolf. More damage occurs of the silver bullet stay inside. To cause even more damage, a hollow point filled with liquid silver (aka mercury).
