In this sports short, we discuss the controversial decision by the NFL to ban the hip drop tackle, a move aimed at enhancing player safety but raising concerns about the future of the game. The tackle, which caused injuries to players like Tony Pollard and Mark Andrews, has sparked debates about its impact on officiating and the essence of football. While prioritizing player safety is crucial, some fear that the ban may lead to chaos on the field and change the game as we know it.

I just looked over 57,000 people paid between $45. And $1,095. to go watch a flag football game. I refused to pay $6. dollars to get a month of Peacock to watch the playoff game. Within 10 years the Superbowl will be on pay per view. They'll start with Amazon or you tube, and then escalate

Hahaha...whether it goes for two hand touch or flag football. Anyone could be injured. As for two hand touch, most likely the receiver will get injured because how fast one runs, and the defender could be too; however, for flag football, the defender will get kicked in the face. And, then what is a ckean tackle? You can't hit the helmet, or the waist then go for the chest or jump on their back...hehehe

The hip drop is a very specific kind of tackle where you launch your hips into the back of the legs. But we all KNOW the NFL won't call it like that. Any tackle that drags down a player from behind will be called. This isn't for player safety, it is to increase offense.

    • @DaileyShorts

100% to increase offense and make defenders unsure where/how/what angle to tackle when you ban head hits, knee hits, leg hits, nut shots hip hits, shoulder hits, can't lower shoulder, can't lead with head, can't use hands, can't step within 3 feet of a star QB while he's breathing oxygen in an official NFL stadium while wearing socks... This is PATHETIC. Football is a violent game n everyone that ever played the game, from HS up, KNEW "fuck, I COULD really get hurt out there one day". We played anyway.

The thing with all of this is that it is a lot easier for the nfl to change a rule than is it for to make some sort of waiver that all players have to sign. If you make a waiver you would have to factor in all kinds of thing. The nflpa has to approve the waiver because they have a say in player safety and then what are the benefits does the waiver provide. If a player got a life changing injury, who’s paying the healthcare because no player is going to sign any sort of contract or waiver unless it states what they would get in return if they did get hurt. Then you have to consider the lesser known players, they are going to want more benefits because they don’t make as much as star players. Then you have to consider what the teams individual want to do as well. So there’s a lot of factors to account for so it just easier to just change the rule. Yea you could argue the turf thing but that’s a different story for another time.

Just play touch or flag football that will solve all the issues. Nobody cares about defensive players safety.

No. It's not 'good' for the game in any respect. It's tackle football. If you don't want to risk injury, DON'T PLAY.

The NFL Players Association should have a meeting with all the defensive players and tell them to not play defensive for week 1. Like, line up like you would normally but don't rush, tackle, play coverage, nothing. See how the NFL likes just offensive.

It’s called good ol fashioned wrapping up. A hip drop, forces momentum downwards and put extreme pressure on the joints, bones of the person being tackled. It’s all fun and games till your some is paralyzed or has a debilitating injury

Ruined football.....my God it's football and you can't make a rule everytime someone gets hurt. Before you know you won't be able to rush the quarterback and turf toe will be illegal and if a player has a cramp they suspend play until the player can play and half time will be a coloring contest or a spelling contest....my God come on people it's football
