Which Position do you think is the most challenging in Football? 🏈
CB, u o what the wr does but has to be gay!!! Its a hard challnge and only skilled people can it do!
@@bobsdinos8230bro the line. all y’all skill players get the spotlight. linemen just be getting hit all the time and nobody gives a shit abt us😭we be giving y’all all the time to catch the ball
Linebackers ig, in some plays they have to play coverage while other plays they must sack the qb, putting their body fully on the line. Edge rushers are a close second imo
idk about challenging, but arguably the offensive line is the most important position
Kicker

One of best explanations of american football positions without being too vague or too descriptive.
My family had always been big on football but I never gave it a true shot…. Superbowl this past Sunday was my first EVER full football game watched all the way through and I fell in love!! I spent the whole next night watching reels and highlights and backstories and whatnot. THISSSS is exactly what I need rn because I now have self appointed football homework 😂😂 Thank you ever so kindly 🙏🏽
SAME HERE!!
Same goes here man. Also watched all these shorts and recruit stories and all these other things
Me too😊
Thank you for sharing this AND for watching! I hope that next season you'll follow a team and hopefully they'll go all the way! You ROCK!
if you ever start supporting a team, do NOT become a bears fan, youll thank me later
As a European wanting to get into American football, this was an incredibly clear and well animated video! Thank you for the explanation!
Appreciate your kind words and for watching!
Watching a football game with football players, as I did in college, provides a unique perspective. They told that, reputation aside, offensive linemen are some of the smartest people on the field. Their roles are often described as "applied geometry".
This is true. The QB and the center are often the smartest on the team. The TE is often highly intelligent as well, and many FBs have good smarts. Seems that blocking requires intelligence. The TE has to block almost as often as the offensive line and then also know when to run a route.
This was created perfectly to explain to someone who doesn’t know much about the different positions of the game. Thank you 🙏
Appreciate your kind words and for watching!
I know this video is making the rounds bc of all the swifties watching football and all I have to say is welcome to the sport, it’s a lot of fun!
Amazing video! I’m sharing this with all my Europeans folks 🤣
Am from South Africa, since the playoff started I’ve tried to watch the games. The frustrating thing about American football is the constant ads😭Am used to soccer where theys nonstop playing for 45 mins
@@TalinhaMazibuko americans hate it too, trust me
Kudos for not grouping the offensive line as one position.
as a european THANK YOU SO MUCH i really needed this for this Sunday (Lamar tha goat)
Honestly american football is more analogous to chess than association football. Different positions with different strengths and weakness all needing to be used in such a way to overcome the strategies of the other team. Anticipating their next moves in order to find weaknesses in their offensive/defensive tactics. For a sport thats stereotyped as having a meathead fanbase, it has a lot going on under the surface.
I absolutely love this analogy, and you're spot on. To build on it, unlike Chess pieces that follow their designated moves, the element of human unpredictability is significant. You can devise the perfect strategy to outmaneuver your opponent, but the excitement of the game is heightened by unforeseen events like a dropped pass, a twisted ankle, or even the ball being dropped before crossing the goal line for a touchdown celebration. All of it makes you yearn for the next slate of games to come around.
No mention of the position I’ve played for years…Armchair quarterback.
I wish I would've known about this video when I began trying to explain football to my better half. This has to be the absolute most eloquently yet efficiently simplistic in depth explanation anyone could ever hope for, especially compared to the nonsensical ever evolving marathon of confusion I've been subjecting her to all these years... Thank you for showing me the error of my ways as I issue a much needed long overdue apology lmao
Appreciate your kind words! Your comment truly epitomizes the heart of this channel and I thank you for that. You ROCK!
I have been watching football for most of my 55 years, know every position at heart, I think of me as and advanced football fan. The best 10 minutes I have watched in a long time about football positions! Great work!
Appreciate the kind words and high praise! You ROCK!
Dude just I just Joined high school football and you just made it a lot easier👌
same bro
Wht position?
Best of luck my friend! You're gonna crush it this year!
nuclear physics is much more clearer to me than this sport really. And I want to learn it and watch it so much! Thank you for this comprehesive video!!!
Having to learn nuclear physics makes me shiver 😀
nah, I gave it up- Too crowded there.
This is a great video to start. But honestly, it's not that bad.
As soon as you learn that a team are just trying to get 10 yards, and have 4 attempts to do so (shown on TV by trying to get from the blue line to the yellow line), and if they make it, they get another 4 attempts to make the next 10 yards, you have it.
So all 1st attempts are 1st and 10. If they make say, three yards it's 2nd and 7 (yards to go).
That's it really. One you get that, the rest falls into place.
Thank You! I'm a 66 yr old woman and I have been looking to learn this information for a LONG time....Very helpful for me
Best explanation on YT. Now, I can watch game and know what's going on. Thanks for sharing
Swifties prolly been flocking here this past season lmao
I 100% agree
Google is reading my mind at this point...😢
I had the thought to look for a vid like this in the morning...its 10pm rn and here i am.
Finally a good and clear video about the positions on American football. I love the sport but I always get confused with the letters CB, FB, S, OT, etc, etc. Thank you
Hey Bills, note that part about the kicker: "needs to perform under pressure".

no, football is a complicated sport, but it gets wayyy easier when you play yourself. don't worry, you will get the hang of it
Thank you from Ireland! My brother moved to Wisconsin back in '95, and it's 'Packers Packers Packers' whenever I ring him!
You're more than welcome and appreciate the shout out from Ireland! And you're not wrong, folks in that state LOVE their Packers for sure, especially they're the only team in the state.
As a Brit I can say this is THE best explanation video on UA-cam. Great work. Thank you! #skol
Appreciate the high praise my friend. You ROCK!
Coming from the UK I would’ve understood very little of this except star roles, but hammering 2K NFL for a few years I learnt all these spots except a couple subtleties - great to learn thanks.
What I’ve never learnt is some of the rules such as who’s allowed to line up where, who is eligible to receive, offside etc.
If there's one thing I've learned from watching football for years, it's that you'll never stop learning new things. In some games there will be rules even the announcers (who may even be former NFL players themselves) weren't even aware of.
The formation rules aren't that bad.
An offense must have seven players within a yard of the line of scrimmage ("on the line"), and the other four players lined up farther back. All players in the backfield are eligible receivers. Of the seven on the line, the two outside players are eligible, and the five in the middle (almost always the center, guards, and tackles) are ineligible. The two outside players that complete the line will vary: for example, if a tight end and wide receiver are lined up on the same side of the field, one will be on the line and the other a yard back, but either arrangement is allowed.
This is a lot for the players and refs to follow, so restricted jersey numbers are used to make it manageable. Ineligible players wear jersey numbers in the 50-79 range; other numbers are eligible. A formation is illegal when a player with an eligible number lines up in an ineligible position or vice versa (unless they declare themselves to the refs, this is occasionally done and will be announced over the PA). In practice, a violation of this rules happens when a tight end and WR on the same side of the field are both on the line. If this illegal formation penalty is announced, the wide receiver will be said to be "covering" the tight end (who is thus ineligible while wearing an eligible number).
On passing plays, the ineligible receivers aren't allowed to go more than a yard downfield -- this prevents them from confusing or hindering defensive backs. If a pass is thrown in this situation, the penalty is "ineligible man downfield". When this happens in practice, it's usually because a play has broken down, and a scrambling QB throws an unplanned desperation pass without realizing a lineman is downfield.
Offsides is straightforward: players on either side of the ball must line up entirely behind the ball. The narrow strip of field the length of the football is called the "neutral zone"; it's offsides against either team if a player is lined up with any part of their body in the neutral zone.
All around great video, the explanations were very simple and were easy to pick up on. People are all saying how the music is annoying but I don’t see anything wrong with it.
Somebody realized there are millions of new, young Kansas City fans. It bodes well for the future of the NFL, and marriages.
This is a great explanation that goes beyond an “elementary” level of understanding. It’s great if you want to learn about the game to chat about with friends.
Im learning this sport so I could watch and enjoy the game when I get to the united states..
Nice you should become a 49ers fan. They have the most faithful fan base. They also have the most interesting players, what's the funniest post-game interviews in a coach that is better than any other coach in the entire league. Hopefully we won the Super Bowl and then you become a fan. Also this sport is better than any sport that your country has and I don't even know where you're from. Basketball is great too but it's hard to find a team that won't disappoint you every year so I just choose to be fans of several teams but the Warriors are great and when they're good they are the most exciting team to watch in history
@@noname-ue7lb Sorry mate but Im rooting for the black and gold. Cos I will be moving to Pittsburgh perhaps next year (if I get that job).

I am an indian just trying to understand this great game .
The key thing to grasp is that American football is essentially a stylized wargame. Two armies are clashing on a battlefield, with the goal being to advance the ball all the way to the opposing endzone, capturing territory as they go. If the advancing army fails to reach its goal within the limits of the prescribed rules (a whole other podcast in itself), the enemy army takes possession of the ball and tries to advance it in just the same way in the other direction. The general idea is to get the ball across the opposing endline as often as possible, while preventing the enemy from getting across one's own.
Each team has its own separate offensive and defensive squads. One specializes in attacking, the other in defending. And all of the fancy plays that each side draws up for its players to carry out are exactly analogous to the battle plans of generals on the battlefield, with all of the same maneuvers: massed attacks, feints, flanking, etc. Football is a fascinating and surprisingly brainy game, however it may appear to the casual onlooker.
@@jimnewl thanks for sharing your knowledge. Now I am playing madden nfl and also watched some highlights of nfl game. It's getting more interesting.
@@ArpitGarg-zb8junot sure didn’t read above but the offensive team gets 4 attempts to make when watching tv to make yellow line. Failure to do so other team gets ball.
@@jimnewlhonestly a great way to put it… O line and D line battling like heavy tanks… WR’s and DB’s flying around the field like high altitude jets… RB’s and LB’s getting down and dirty like foot soldiers… captains on the field trying to keep order… and a general watching over the battlefield trying to make adjustments as it unfolds.
Great video! I have a friend who doesn’t understand the rules, positions, etc… these video it’s a wonderful start for loving these game… I expect more videos describing plays, rules, formations, etc… Thank you!

Perfectly explained 👌🏼
The punter needs a strong leg for long punts but also a strong leg for high punts - having a longer 'hang time' allows for more pressure on the punt returner.
Exceptional video! I've been watching Football for a year now and wondered what some positions were meant to do 😅
So happy to help you here and I appreciate your kind words. Hopefully with this new knowledge, you'll be able to enjoy the sport more in watching it! You rock!!

Yes.....the fascinating position of long snapper
It needs its own video.
@@Kube_Dog INDEED!!
Fr idk why they don’t just use the center to be the long snapper
@@iswiftyfox8997 because the LS gets trampled on every punt and FG. His job is to get run over!! Why would you want the most important person on your offense to get run over???!!????
@@iswiftyfox8997Snapping the ball 8 yards back into the hands of the holder is a very specialized skill. The center snaps the ball directly into the QB's hands or maybe a few feet back in shotgun. It's not the same thing.
This explains it so well

Hi Lurk
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
Nice!
Thanks bro!
Thx for info
Wow, very well made tutorial
Thank you for the kind remarks and for watching!
I know this is the basics, but The only thing I would change is that Defensive Tackles aren’t necessarily Nose Tackles as well depending on the base formation and team uses. A nose tackle is more for occupying blockers and taking up space allowing linebackers and safeties to fly through the line freely over their pure pass rushing ability
Thank you
You're welcome! Happy I could help :)

Glad i read Eyeshield 21 manga back then. I understand the basics.
Great video, although I already knew most of what was covered, I still learned some new stuff and the great animation makes this video awesome
I never knew that each team had so many different roles. So, depending on if your team is on offense or defense, you'll have different players/roles on the field and there are infinite substitutions?
It feels weird to me that half the team is resting while waiting to again be in the correct phase of the game to play.
Or do teams sometimes field a mix of offensive and defensive players in case they steal the ball and have a chance of turning defense into offense?
No mix. After a turnover (fumble recovery or interception by a defender), play continues until he is either tackled, runs out of bounds, or scores a touchdown. If he does not score a touchdown, the clock stops and play does not resume until the opposing offensive and defensive teams come onto the field. You must not think like Euro football or basketball where the players can be on offense or defense in any given moment. Rather, each team has an offense and defense and each of those teams come onto the field depending on who takes possession of the ball.
You describe the Holders position as trivial yet how often does it all fall to pieces when he gets it wrong? Which all just adds to the fun, as long as it’s not my team that fluffs it!
Would love a quick guide to reading defense from a QB's POV
That's a solid suggestion! I'll add it to the list :)
hey do you mind giving an update on all 4 major sports winners please thank you
