If you want to know the true definition of torture, it's trying to take those things off while the engine is still in the car and without a lift! lol. It's looking great Tony! How did you vac test the EGR? When I had the intake off, I clean our 25lb of carbon from that tube, same as you. When installed, I applied vacuum to the EGR while the engine was running and noticed a difference in idle....assume that means it was operating?
Tony your engine is flawless. Big difference in mine as it came from NC and wasn't garaged. I'm assuming for the EGR you just pulled a vacuum on it to test?
Yes my 560SL is super clean. I believe it has always been garaged. I purchased it at an auction in California. The EGR tube was completely plugged. I had to drill out the carbon! The EGR was not working at first. I eventually got it cleaned and did a vacuum test and made sure the valve worked as it should. I have a video of what I did here ua-cam.com/video/FfvfdekN8WU/v-deo.html This video as well as the EGR video can be found in the Exhaust Manifold playlist here ua-cam.com/play/PLQAW1udK_cOg48gH1B_0JC9cUs6LWD74Y.html
@@TonyLiveTV Thanks! I just torqued down my heads tonight. My garage in Tampa isn't much cooler than yours - was 120 in the garage over the weekend. Just put the EGR in the parts cleaner and I'll vacuum test tomorrow. The tube on mine was pretty clogged too. And when I pulled my engine I broke the camshaft position sensor too... I found one on eBay for $500...Ouch.
I don’t believe you can purchase a new EGR valve from Mercedes or any other dealer. However, you can sometimes find them on eBay, but they are quite expensive. A new EGR valve on eBay is US $900! www.ebay.com/itm/R107-560SL-86-89-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-EGR-VALVE-0011409860-0001408360-NEW/163883474952 And the only used one I could find is US $399! www.ebay.com/itm/86-89-MERCEDES-BENZ-R107-560SL-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-EGR-VALVE-0001408360/185967364204
Dear Tony. My 560 Sl has the following problem, starts up immediately even when seats for a months. Also when I start the engine again up to 20 minutes after stopping he starts up beautiful but when he seats few hours it is hard to start up the engine and when it fires up it runs rough for few seconds. Please could you advice me what I should check ? Thank you
Start-up issues are some of the hardest to diagnose. Have you checked the functionality of the cold-start valve? The cold-start valve (or cold-start injector) is located on the front of the intake manifold. It delivers fuel into the cold engine when you turn the ignition. During a cold start-up, your ECU signals the cold-start valve to inject more fuel into the engine. It could be that your cold-start valve is sticking. That said, I would also check the coolant temperature sensor to make sure it triggers the ECU to activate the cold-start valve. A friend of mine has a UA-cam video (and channel) that should be able to help ua-cam.com/video/DzTNbpfBH6E/v-deo.html
Have you replaced your fuel accumulator? I had similar starting issues where it would start when cold, but if I let it sit for more than an hour, it would have trouble starting. I swapped the fuel accumulator, and it solved my problem.
@@RA-dh1tb Thank you, but my 560 starts well when engine is cold even in the middle of a winter. It is very hard to start up engine only when it is between 30 min and 6-8 hours since engine is off.
Thanks, Tony !
Great job !
