- In this very Mexican episode of DIY Music, Jesse checks out a couple of different Paracho guitars at wildly different pricepoints--which is the better deal for the money? Surprises abound...
I had a Paracho guitar that my mom bought at a swap meet used for $15 in 1985. It looked normal and worn, but it played better than most guitars I ever tried. I was unaware of the history and the value of mine taking it to the campfire scene and tossed in the back of the car/van. At one such campfire, this Mexican gentleman asked to see the guitar, then was overcome with reverence. He then told me it was a Paracho and what all that meant. He offered to buy it then for $200 but I wouldn't sell, and I was near broke. The worn finish and years of playing just seemed to make it play better. It would ring and ring. It had a life of it's own. Then, a boyfriend decided to surprise me. :-( He thought he could sand and refinish the guitar while I was at work. It never sounded right again. If I could be sure I was getting a guitar like the one I had then, I would gladly buy. But, it was all those campfires, playing years, and miles too that gave it life.
woawwww such an awesome story greetings from mexico
Honestly I'd be furious too if someone messed with my axe like that. Sorry to hear that
My wife's family lives in Periban so when we visited they took me over to Paracho. I met a guitar maker and his son and was able to purchase and bring home an authentic Paracho guitar for $200 US dollars. The experience alone was worth the trip and the money. That is such a cool little town. We even bought a beautiful Violin as well. They make everything from string instruments to toys.
Mexico prides itself in its wood working abilities
Awsome to hear from you , didn't know you had a channel any way your little bit of Spanish is very well pronounced also would love to hear you play a full song on the guitar . Blessings to you and wifey.
Glad to hear people likes this i'm sure he has more songs on the channel
My mom recently got me a gilb guitar from Mexico for 100$ and I thought it would play like crap, but this kid who's in guitar 3 played my guitar as if it was worth 2,000$...i love it now
I acquired a Espanola guitar n made in Paracho, in 1952. It had several issues because of age and neglect, some abuse. I got it off a trash pile on the condition if I-could make it playable again. I ended up fixing the cracks in the sides, top and bottom. I ended up refinishing it in a barn door red stain. Put a piezo pickup and a pre-amp in it. And new strings, bridge, and nut. It sounds and looks great. Problem is, I don’t know how much it’s worth. It is my current go to guitar , though I have 9 to choose from. It is 70 years old, ( same as me), and has a new life, beyond. What the luthier had ever expected. It’s a great guitar and I am proud to be part of its long history wherever it goes from here. At this point, it is over 2,200 miles from where it was created and still roaming this earth.
Based on the color of the top, it is spruce no cedar. Cedar would be much darker.
Just a note, classical guitar is played on the left knee with your foot on elevated on a stand. It's much easier to play the wide neck. Thanks!
A 35 USD Guitar it's a basic instrument for many beginners in Mexico, and also is used by low incoming people, but is not for persons that love guitars or musicians due the use of laminate pine wood of MDF. The good guitars from Mexico are above 1500 USD minimum and are made of betters wood like caoba and maple.
They do what? yeahh.. nope.... price for not locals...i got my own from a friend of a family and i have never seen that amount of money and neither expect my parents to have it back in the day
hshaha i laughed out loud when you said that Chris bought the $35 guitar from you. hahahha. I also fell in love with a guitar in mexico. it was an Espanola Guitarra. I did not want to carry with me in my return to the states but i did order it. The cost was reasonable and i loved the sound and feel of it. Some guitars just dont want to be played. you have to be heavy handed but with the Espanola it wanted to be played and it stood out without playing loud. Thanks for the honest review.
Lol out loud
Just polished mine up I think my mom bought it at a yard sale over 10 years ago. Thought it was a turd but it's a gem
Any guitar made in Paracho is 100% hand made
Side by side would have been good, as well as some classical style fingerpicking. I have a Paracho guitar made sometime around 1970.
Does anybody know if there are any guitar factories in Paracho making OEM/ODM?
Paracho is a beautiful place my family is from there
Good presentation, I sure want one, but how to buy one seems to be a mystery.
Is there anywhere to get a Paracho guitar in the Yucatán of Mexico?
Hey my friend I wanted to tell you what you got there is called a studio guitar and that’s a beginners in paracho they also sell 100% handmade guitars that go from 3,000 pesos (150 dollars) all the way to 20000 pesos (1000 dollars) it
Depends on what you’re looking for so not all the guitars from there are cheap
It may well be a solid top but the wood is most likely pine. Probably the whole body is pine. It's readily available near Paracho. There are several factories in Paracho that make cheap pine guitars for the masses which is good because its all a lot of people can afford. There are some really good small scale guitar makers as well but you will have to pay more for their good guitars.$500 for a student model, $1500 for a mid-level, and $5000 for their best.
Does it sound muted somehow?
It would have been nice if you played them side by side in the same room.
I've never been on Pacharo Guitar videos let alone Pacharo?
yeah, unfortunately I had them at two different times so that wasn’t possible
@Emilio Atilano Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait it's dangerous to go alone!!! even for me that i'm a local dont im assuming you cancel due to this isolation but be careful Michoacan it's dangerous it may help if you have friends or family in there first
0.35 not sure what it is but for sure I want it
ukulele bass... like a kala u-bass
At 10:33-10:39… This man knows his corridos… That song he’s singing and playing is a famous piece from the Mexican National Treasure in José Alfredo Jimenez…
Hell I'd buy that for $35 just to have a classical to mess around with
DarkDan3 I just checked the nylon string guitar I have and realized it’s from paracho
Not 35 nowadays i bet is even less due to exchange variations but the Right shiping may be and taxes may require you to buy it from a store online that has experience shipping worldwide
Has anyone found their FB or IG page? The label shows that they have them.
That's a spruce top
It would’ve helped if you could play something on the guitars.
I know, right? lol
I am surprised you find a problem with a wide neck. That’s the norm for classical style guitars and those are technically the historically right guitars. Classical guitarists love it. Shouldn’t it also be compensated by the fact that nylon strings are easier to press and manipulate.
I grew up playing acoustic and electric steel string guitars, which have smaller / thinner necks, so I suppose it’s all about what you’re used to
No i'm pretty sure they may not be from china unlike one that my be at a shopping mall small store have no means or profit to import it from china.Oh yeah when i was learning to play the guitar never used those markers bet they don't use it and so they need to change strings ..interesthing
Lol the baby sounds more in tune then that guitar lol
ha!
There are a couple things which you said that sort of sound kind of “bad” I guess. Using the stereotype “made in China” to indicate something necessarily bad. China can make decent products if you don’t buy the cheapest. Also in Mexico they actually do have shops that make guitars poorly. That last part really took off since the movie Coco made guitars popular to get for kids.
all true. many of favorite guitars are Squiers made in either China or Indonesia
don't agree with your steel vs nylon comparison. Of course you can't play in an arena with a nylon.... or maybe you can. think you started to get a hang of it at the end. Or maybe it was just a joke
Are you selling it?
I sold it to my buddy Chris before we moved back to the US :^)
Watch on UA-cam "Guitarra Barata vs Guitarra Cara de Paracho"
Are you serious about the guys with machine guns
uh yes. not joking. local militia took over
@@DIYMusic what do they demand, like Money?
@@SoggySandwich80 they may ask for a reasonable contribution to the cause, which you will gladly give them considering their armament
think of it as a road use toll

700 Pesos for a guitar probably made by a student or a mom selling her sons guitar for not using it.
are not pesos, are USD!!
naaah there are pretty serious musicians and professional
craftsmen skilled
on making those
My Grandfather is beyond talented. He makes guitars in Paracho. It goes back generations for sure. My ancestor started the business. Our last name is special and when people hear it, they think of Paracho. I appreciate your review. I own like 3-5 and don’t plan on selling it! Lol
Lily Santi if you ever do consider selling them hit me up ! 😀
No sea codo mi amigo… Cuando compras barato vas a estar comprando a cada rato…
Lo barato sale caro…
Mejor ahorra tu dinero y invierte en algo de calidad que va a durar mucho más después de que tu mismo mueras…
They don't sound great. Or is that just the mic?
...or the awful playing? lol
(I don’t play classical guitar)
Would be more interesting if you knew how to play a classical or bossa nova piece. Nobody strums nylon strings.
Lolol
Guys with machine guns asking for donations? How much $ to prevent human ventilations? 😐
Like 5$-40$ usd
what? sorry? oh that it's because the government commits legal a robbery so they are...the thug life dont worry its fine
Funny if you got a very nice guitar in Mexico. Solid wood and all. But what if you found out that somehow the best guitars were made from some illegally cut down jungle trees?
And your point is?
Que Feo, Mateo. (saying in Mexico)
