- The little town of Paracho, a traditional center of craftsmanship deep in Mexico's Michoacan state, is known for producing the world's best handmade guitars. Step inside the family-owned workshop of Guitarras Rubio to watch some of the luthiers (master guitar makers) of Paracho at work, using time-honored methods and tools. Videography and editing by Andrew Sullivan, produced by The Craftsmanship Initiative.
Read the whole story, written by Laura Fraser, at craftsmanship....
A lot of people use a spoke shave to shape the neck but this man just freehanded it with a really crazy sharp knife that's just some insane skill right there.
We're impressed too!
GRACIAS PPR HACER POSIBLE QUE NOSOTROS LOS MUSICOS PODAMOS TENER UN INSTRUMENTO TAN BELLO EN NUESTRAS MANOS!! SE LES AGRADESE MUCHO!
I'm so glad I found this video. I have a cedar top guitar made by Sr. Guillermo Rubio, and it was great to see the hand craftsmanship that went into it. Let me say that my guitar has magnificent tone, amazing projection and responsiveness, and is honestly on par with true concert quality instruments costing many thousands of dollars more. I don't know where the wood from the top was sourced, but it is a piece of the highest quality with the densest grain I've ever seen. The back and sides are made from a local hardwood called palo escrito, little known in the guitar world I believe, but with great beauty and tone. If my guitar is any indication, Paracho is a place where world class guitars can be obtained at costs much less than instruments of comparable quality made in Europe or the US.
Thank you, Thomas! That is wonderful to hear; we are so glad you enjoyed the film, and appreciate hearing your personal story of Sr. Rubio's fine work.
Beautiful all around, the film work, the music, the people...
Thank you, Corey!
One of my guitars is from Paracho... Nothing quite sounds like it... To this date I think it's my most prized posecion, I called it "Lucia"... And it's perhaps the only thing i intend to inherit to my children...
What lucky children, to inherit such a unique treasure!
Нравится, очень душевно! Мексика ❤
Simply beautiful.
Thank you!
I like how he has a smiths stone set that he uses to keep the sandpaper flat rather than sharpening his tools with it
The song is not "Bésame mucho", it's Heitor Villalobos' Prelude No. 1. Nice vid!
Good ear, Javier! You are correct. We learned a little too late, sadly, what the correct title of the song was... Hope you enjoyed the video overall!
Thank you sooo much. I was loosing my mind yelling that in my head.
@@CraftsmanshipMag Yes, an apology for that. I did enjoy the video a lot, i enjoy heavily watching videos of Paracho crafstmen and classical guitars, i have dedicated several years of my short life (20) to the classical guitar, and my instruments do come from Paracho, very proudly the place where, some of the greatest guitars from Mexico are made. Greetings!
Besame mucho is nice, but that was Heitor Villalobos prelude no 1. Thanks for the nice video.
You are absolutely right! We realized this a little too late, unfortunately. We're glad, however, that you enjoyed the video overall. :)
my parents are from this town
I was able to buy an old guitar named La Granadina, made in Ensenada Mexico. It sounds magical and I’m wondering if anyone heard of this brand? I can’t find anything on it.
Unfortunately, we don't have any information on this brand. Good luck with your search!
He built me a guitar and two years later it fell apart.
How much does his guitar cost ?
Hi Jack, unfortunately we don't have information on Guillermo Rubio's guitar prices. You may be able to find something on the web, good luck with your search!
