Oh Snap!! Glen Campbell can also throw that fire!! Cannot wait to hear more from him!! 🔥
Watch Roy on hee haw playing fiddle playing dueling with 1 0 year old bango player
Two of the best guitarists that ever lived.❤
Yes😊😊 For Sure❤❤
Don't forget Hank Marvin ua-cam.com/video/RB91ayDlQLE/v-deo.html
You've just witnessed two of the best to ever play guitar my friend.🎸🎸😎🍻
Listen to Glen do William Tell oveture it is fantastic
Especially when he is playing with the guitar on his HEAD!
Don't forget Chet Atkins he's another great string slinger.
Don't forget Jerry Reed
Wow! HEE-HAW!!!
What a pair of kick butt guitarists. I know their individual works well, but I never saw this duet before. Thanks so much for showing this.
Thanks for watching! Loved it!! 🔥
The harmonies of twin guitar lead have always gotten me as a guitarist.
Exactly! Absolutely loved it! 🔥
There is a video from the same TV show, Hee Haw, with Roy playing fiddle with a young man on banjo. I think the boy's name is Jimmy Henley. They tear up "The Orange Blossom Special".
RIP to both...
This is just one of many great covers of this song. I remember this lije yesterday. Love it!!!! I'm getting old man!!!
Aren’t we all!! 🤣
@setonhillstudios unfortunately yes. I just hit 65 on August 31st. Still rockin though 😆.
@@jeffreyflint6286 You ain't old yet! (grin) I'll be turning 75 on November 29, 2024...got you beat by nearly 10 years, and ALSO still ROCKIN' !!! Never gonna stop, either! 😀
@@GrandmasGotGraceLW yes you do. I love it!👍👍
William Tell by Glen Campbell is a good one, great reaction
Re: those unison runs, etc...
Once you hit virtuoso status, you can simply pick up your instrument and play anything with anybody.
My Daddy could do it, without rehearsal, and even sight-reading an intricate piece of music he'd never seen before! Always amazed me, no matter how many times I watched him do it! He'd also adjust to the level of the other person or band to make the music flow best. When TWO virtuosos get together like in this video, everyone that listens gets a piece of ear candy!! 😉👍🏻❤🎶
That’s so awesome that your dad was such a great player and his love for music clearly translated to you! Thanks for sharing and have a great day! 😁
YES! So awesome! My mom was that way with every single instrument she ever played. 😀
Glenn Campbell doing the William Tell Overture, with a full orchestra, is a treat.
Watching your face was pure fun! 😀
One of my favorite things with these two, and other great guitarists, is that (even though there are drummers in the background definitely keeping the beat going), both Glen and Roy had the GOOD habit of keeping the beat going from within, as well. I love to watch musicians like this play (and sometimes sing at the same time), while keeping those feet tapping and legs moving. It's something you'll always see Dan Vasc doing, as well. When he waits through a riff, he needs to know EXACTLY when to put his voice back into action, and it's really fun to see him "count," as he waits.
I've seen plenty of other musicians and singers who DON'T feel the beat the same way, and their sound is never as GREAT as these guys, and others like them, who just keep that ball rollin' and never let it stop until that very moment, when they end it PERFECTLY, together. That takes a LOT of concentration.
Sometimes, when performing live (like they were, here), you really NEED to keep your inner timekeeper going (which I'm sure you understand, being a drummer), because the live audience can give you a run for your money, which isn't always totally accurate! Wow, does that make it hard to keep up a song like this one, especially!
In 2000, when I was still the secretary/bookkeeper for The First Presbyterian Church of Hoquiam, Washington, we were blessed with a FREE, surprise visit from the Phoenix Boys Choir, which was on tour through Washington State. They hadn't scheduled our area, but something happened that caused them a delay (a bus breakdown, or something like that), and they did two whole concerts -- one of them at our church. We called on our church members for housing, and my family hosted three of the young teens (who were just slightly older than my youngest girl, Judi), the night after the concert at our church.
While we were watching/listening to the concert, I was (as usual) bouncing around in my seat (I simply cannot NOT bounce around when music is playing). I was sitting next to our choir director. She had long since put me in charge of running the parts, because her own rhythm honestly was NOT the greatest. She was the sweetest lady, ever, but I never could understand how in the world she became a choir leader! So there I was, bouncing away and having a grand time, and when the first song ended, she tapped me on the knee, grinned, and shook her head, and said, "You really CAN'T turn off the rhythm, can you?!" I just grinned, and waited for the next song to bounce to. I really can't stop the beat...nope...not gonna happen.
One of the SADDEST days in my life, was when Glen Campbell passed away. I had heard him on the radio, for long before I ever got to see him on TV. Two of my favorite songs that he sang, were "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Wichita Lineman." I hope you'll react to one or both of those at some point.
Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy (Official Video)
(on his official channel)
Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman (Live Goodtime Hour)
(on his official channel)
Thank you VERY MUCH for THIS great reaction. 😀
Thanks so much for all the info Linda and you are 💯 right about the timekeeping aspect of things! This is my introduction into Glen Campbell and I cannot wait to explore more from him! Such an excellent player and his dexterity is unreal! Loved seeing these two amazing musicians together! Have a great day! 😁
Great reaction as always! You have to check out Roy doing "Folsom Prison Blues". He makes sound effects on his guitar and it is amazing and also very funny!
Oh cool! Appreciate the recommendation!
Roy Clark was one of my favorite guitar players. I was inspired to learn how to play Ghost Riders In The Sky on the guitar after hearing him play it on a live album my mom had. If you want to hear a duel guitar solo that will blow your mind, you should check out a song that Queensryche had on their album called The Warning. The song is called NM 156. It still blows my mind to this day.
Oh cool! And I didn’t know you played! That’s awesome! Thanks for the recommendation too!! 😁
If you start watching (for yourself) full episodes of the "Hee Haw" show, you will 👀 a lot of great musicians/singers.
I remember watching Grandpa Jones, guy who introduced Roy & Glen, playing cow bells(with his feet & hands) with his wife Ramona. I remember thinking how cool it was to watch. That's what's so great about Hee Haw...you get a little bit of everything. I really think you'd enjoy watching the show.
Many corny jokes, silly skits, funny songs(Then you were gone, Gloom, Despair & agony on me, Gossip song, l'm pickin' & l'm grinnin')a talented cast & the best of Country music singers making guess appearances. Even artist who didn't sing country would show up every so often. Back then it wasn't cool to admit you watched(or listened to country music) Hee Haw. A lot of people did it secretly. 😂😂😂
So, l will end with this question, "HEY GRANDPA! WHAT'S FOR SUPPER?"
Right on! 😀
I watched primarily to see Roy Clark (and others) play bluegrass banjo, which I loved then and still love now.
@@stuBdoc Same here. 😀
A little noticed feature of so many of these performances by the greats of the past is just how much fun it is evident they are having with each other and the music. Most of them grew up in working class households and fully appreciated what a blessing it was to do something they loved and had fun doing in exchange for stupid amounts of money from those they entertained.
Glenn Campbell plays William Tell Overture, fabulous!!
Both Glenn and Roy can play over 20 instruments each. And Glenn at one time played back up for the Beach Boys in the early 60s. Roy was a regular on Hee Haw with
Buck Owens and Glenn had his own TV Variety show. ❤
Glen Campbell was a studio guitarist before he hit it big. Roy Clark can play anything with strings. Both gone now and RIP.
The smile of enjoyment on your face is terrific. My dad used to listen to Glen Campbell all the time and I now, all these years later, I really appreciate his talent.
Somebody asked Eddie Van Halen how it felt to be the best guitar player in the world. He said, I don't know you;ll have to ask Roy Clark.
Every time I see Glen Campbell footage, he’s playing a completely different guitar; sometimes it’s a 12 string (yes they’re harder to play because you’re fretting two strings with each finger instead of one, and I imagine your picking hand would be working harder as well. But back to my original point: here it looks like he’s playing a Danelectro; other times he’s playing Ovation, Fender, Gretsch, Gibson, and who knows what else. Not to mention that he’s as killer on acoustic guitar as he is on electric.. amazing man.
Both are self taught. If you listen to 50s and 60s radio, then you have heard Glen Campbell's guitar. He was part of the Wrecking Crew. A bunch of studio musicians who recorded hundreds of songs for artists.
He could also sing, check out "Yesterday when I was young", "Thank God and Greyhound"
The OUTLAWS DO THIS SONG TOO!!
Glen said he'll never do Malaguena out of respect to Roy and likewise Roy will never do the William Tell Overture out of respect to Glen
I remember having a 45 of Glen's version of the 'William Tell Overture', as a kid; may have been the 'B' side, but it was so good, I damn near wore the grooves off that side.
SO YEAH STEVEN, THAT INTRO WAS FROM A TV SHOW THAT ROY WAS ON CALLED ( HEE-HAW ) 😊SO ROY WOULD GO ON GLEN'S TV SHOW 68-72 ( GLEN CAMPBELL GOODTIME HOUR ) FREQUENTLY AND THEY WOULD SIT AND PLAY SONGS AT THE MID PART OF THE SHOW, PRETTY INSANE AWESOME STUFF TO WATCH AS A YOUNG KID MYSELF STEVEN💯BUT MANY OF THOSE GUYS WOULD BE ON GLEN'S SHOW : JERRY REED, CARL PERKINS, CHET ATKINS, ROY OF COURSE AND SO YEAH THEY WERE REAL GOOD FRIENDS! 👍
I remember when this first aired. Every time I hear this I can hear the words to the song in my head.
To play a twelve string at this level, not missing a note, is much more difficult than on a six string. Loved your reaction to these two legends. They both are at such a skill level they can play tight off of each other like this.
I was at the first Farm Aid in 1985 and the Highwaymen(Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson) were on the list of acts. When they came out to play, they announced that Kris had another engagement to attend so he wouldn't be with them. Everyone was bummed until they announced that Glen Campbell was filling in. OMG! What a fill in!
Not to mention Glen originally cut “Highwayman” in 1979 solo!
CLASSIC, I SAW THIS ON TV!!🎸🎸🔥🔥
Thank you for this one sir.
I think of Glen Campbell I think of Wichita Lineman
Your hand has to stretch cross twice
as many strings.
I can't think of a particular song where he's playing fiddle.
Besides the song TV show he was on Hee Haw and Buck Owens show all the time.
He plays banjo on Dueling Banjos
Buck Owens is on the guitar.
Also he needs to wacth Glen play the William Tell Overture (Long Ranger theme).
I covered “Dueling Banjos” on the channel and it blew my mind! It’s been a while though!
OUTLAWS 🎸- " Ghost Riders In The Sky " ROCKIN' VOCAL VERSION also Extended Mix by OUTLAWS w/ Insanely Good DRUMS/BASS/GUITARS , Acoustic and Electric for an Incredible Southern Rock/Hard Rock Style that is Rockin' and Groovin' from start to finish not only that the second half it's JAMMIN' Fast. You gotta hear this version too it's Epic also 🎸🎸🎤🔥 🎶
Glenn Campbell was in the "The Wrecking Crew," which was studio musicians.
Hee Haw was a terrific variety/comedy show, and featured some of the greatest musicians in the world. Not only as guests ,but also as regular cast members.
✌🏼😎🇺🇸
You will likely enjoy Glen's LIVE video version of The William Tell Overture with the full orchestra and Glen out front the most! WATCHING his Masterful instrument skills is even MORE impressive than just listening to him, the video for it has this title, "Glen Campbell - William Tell Overture (smokin' instrumental)"... you might also enjoy his LIVE video version of Paul McCartney and Wings, MULL OF KINTYRE, too! It may even be from the same concert as I recall, which is well worth watching the entire show! ENJOY! Shawn, from here in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, Canada!
Two of the all-time best!
You should check out the video titled Glen Campbell Plays The William Tell Overture (acoustic). There is an electric one but I prefer the acoustic guitar one. You would know the instrumental because it’s also known as The Sooners Ranger theme.
The Lone Ranger not sooner.
if you watch closely Roy Clark spends more time watching Glen Campbell's fingers than his own.
I gotta rewatch it and pay more attention! Thanks for the insight! 😁
@@setonhillstudios btw..... if you ever one day perform this song in public be sure to make the 80's action movie change to the chorus.....
instead of..... "Yippie-yi-o........ Yippie-yi-yay........ Ghost riders in the Sky"
try the Bruce Willis version..... "Yippee-ki-yay....... Mother-f*cker........ Ghost Riders in the Sky."
guaranteed to get the tip jar clinking.
@@JuandeFucaU 🤣😂🤣
There is also a vid of Roy playing this on 12 string. He actually plays lead, rhythm and base all at once.
Stan Jones wrote this song, to the music of the old southern Civil War song “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. You should know who Stan Jones is. A real legit songwriter, cowboy, actor, singer and folk historian. Heck, even Texas John Slaughter was at Jones’ christening as a baby in Arizona! Glen Campbell was one of my early guitar heroes, & so was Roy Clark. This is a very good instrumental version - but you should hear the lyrics. It’s about the true story of ghostly phenomenona - where a ghost heard of cattle and cowboys are seen at the sight of a tragic stampede. The backstory is incredible. You should check out more Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and especially the man who influenced all of them, Merle Travis. He was the first well known guitar ‘hero’ of every country musician who came after him. That playing style is still called “Travis Picking” for a reason.
This song has been recorded by several people. You should hear Johnny Cash's version so that you can catch the lyrics.
Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer with the acapella group Voice Play, came out with a cover a few months ago with him (his musical alter egos, actually) singing four parts.
Another Hee Haw regular was Roni Stoneman. Part of the Stoneman family. Great musicians.
Would love you to listen to Marty Robbins 'El Paso'. Such a beautiful voice!!
YES, YES, YES! I would love to see as many Marty Robbins reactions as you can squeeze in, Steven! My dad and I used to sing ALL of his songs, and I used to play all of them on guitar, too (before rheumatoid arthritis kicked in and took that ability away...I've been able to get most of my singing voice back, now, but not guitar playing...am working on my trumpet, though!). 😀
Glen Campbell was always one of my favorites, he had his own TV show for a couple years in the early 70s. They were both great singers and instrumentalist.
He introduced the world to Linda Ronstadt on his show, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.
You need to hear this song with the words. Then listen to this again. The guitars sings the lyrics. I can't here this without the words going through my mind.
They're just have fun, good coean fun.
Glen can also play the Bagpipes believe it not😊😊
The big 3 of Country music. Clark,Campbell and Reed
A really cool one is Glen doing the William Tell Overture - ua-cam.com/video/GUBhE00h9U0/v-deo.html
Hee Haw was required viewing on Sundays in my house. I always just eye-rolled the corny humor when I was a kid. Now that I'm older can I appreciate the high-level musicianship these dudes were bringing every week.
Great reaction as always, your personality is infectious. Keep it up my friend.
Thanks so much and really appreciate the kind words! Having a blast and thanks for being a part of the Seton Hill Family!!😁
Grandpa Jones that did the intro is a great banjo player
That was from regular old "Hee Haw", a comedy/musical variety TV show. Both of them played on the show a fair amount as I recall.
I watched Roy Clark on Hee Haw and The Glenn Campbell show back in the day. Very talented men.
Glen is playing a 12 string.
I love this song. I love the original. I love Geoff Castellucci's version. And I love this version.
This may have been an instrumental, but I was singing it in head right along with them. It's a great that has been covered by countless people, including in the movie "Blues Brothers 2000". Roy could probably play anything with strings equally amazing, and Glen is no slouch. Loved watching Hee-Haw ever since I was a kid, but we had to watch Lawrence Welk first which came on right before it. My grandparents wanted us to have a well-rounded musical experience.
Tielman Brothers - “Rollin Rock” live tv show 1960
One of the best drummers out there is Dean Castronova the drummer for Journey and has one of the best voices, he also is the lead singer of the Revolution Saints. Power group. The best song is Here forever, this song helped when my wife had cancer.
Saw Glen Campbell decades ago in Anderson, IN...one of the top five guitarist I have ever seen...virtuoso! Great voice too! Started as a session guitarist.
Glenn Campbell..as a member of the infamous Wrecking Crew...played as a studio guitarist on hundreds of hits in the 60s and 70s
Pretty dang amazing! Must see more!!
So glad I had the opportunity to see both of these legends before they died. Granted it was later in their respective careers, and even though when I saw each one of them it was within ten years of their deaths, neither had lost any abilities in their playing.
As a studio musician Glenn is able to play any kind of music. The picking techniques they are using is easily missed. Alternate picking and hybrid picking. Even Roy was watching Glenn picking near the end. Both incredible. Glenn is one of the very best.
🤘🔥🔥🤘
I played 6 string for a few years before I picked up a 12 string. For me, it was easy to play. I've talked to other guitarists who said they had a difficult time adapting. These 2 were the epitome of professional musicians!
Jerry Reed was another great one from that time period.
Check out Witchita Lineman and Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell.
Roy Clark was a master of the guitar and a real comedian. Check out "Roy Clark - Folsum Prison Blues" to see what I mean. Glenn Campbell was just as good on guitar, but had the voice.
Check out “wildwood flower” by Glenn Campbell and Roy Clark.. or Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmy Vaughn -Pipeline
Glen filled in ,on guitar, for a Beach Boys tour one time and said the biggest thing that got him was the girls trying to get a lick of hair.
I remember watching this one as a kid!! Legends!!
Those two were amazing.
Check out Roy Clark Folsom prison blues
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Geoff Castalucci has a great vocal version of this song. I think you know him from VoicePlay (he's the incredible bass).
The Outlaws covered this song. Amazing.
Glen Campbell doing william Tell overture!! This version here.. ua-cam.com/video/GUBhE00h9U0/v-deo.htmlsi=l16tpyNRKMIGcyxZ
Glen Campbell was an awesome talent, h was part of the Wrecking Crew and an interesting fact, he could not read music.
Another one to check out is Jerry Reed, he has a popular song, east bound amd down from the movie Smokey & The Bandit, but has several fun songs like she got the goldmine, the guitar skills will shock u and the lyrics will make u laugh
Guitar playing used to be an art, not a competition. You had such skilled guitarists playing side by side……not pissing on each other’s shoes….but playing licks that enhanced the other players playing. You see that sometimes with the John Mayer crossovers. With his team up’s with Keith Urban, or Brad Paisley. Great integration of musical styles. And the result is amazing. 🎵🎶🎸
"Liberty" performed by Ramona Jones with Roy Clark ua-cam.com/video/m4xlf7oecYg/v-deo.html
The introduction was from Grandpa Jones from Hee Haw, he was responsible for the gospel music at the end of the show.
This is from the TV show He-Haw
12 string has paired strings that are the same note an octive apart
Glenn Campbell..
William Tell Overture
Thanks for the suggestion! 😁
@@setonhillstudios you will love it
Glen and Vincent Fournier (Alice Cooper) were best of friends for years. Golfed everyday. Alice does an interview speaking of Glen's 6 year battle with Alzheimer's. Very touching.
I suggest listening to Jerry's Breakdown - Jerry Reed was a master.
Roy Clark could play any instrument that had strings if playing a guitar was martial arts he would be a grand master
Country suggestions.
David Allan Coe-You never call me by my name
Waylon Jennings- momma tried
Tony Joe White - polk salad annie
Great suggestions!!! 😀
Eddie Van Halen wanted a meeting with Glenn Campbell cause of how great he was. Talent knows talent.
If you really want to see Glen shred watch him perform the Jimmy Webb classic MacArthur Park with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra
Over the decades these two had played together a number of times. I can't remember if they ever recorded together unless it was a clip like this one. I suspect that they a rehearsed a time or two with and without the backup band. Just to get the timing and twists down. Glen was as accomplished as Roy. Together they are great. Check out Glen's " Rhine Stone Cowboy".
You know the Outlaws played GhostRiders in the Sky also
Oh really?! I need to check that out! Thanks so much!! 😁
Check out Roy and Buck Owens. I believe Roy can play anything with strings and some wind.
Check out Glenn's daughter Ashley Campbell.
You need to hear the sons of the pioneers play and sing this song
It's my understanding that Glenn Campbell was self taught.
