Bro, I despise windows. Mint is great and all, but needing windows is terribly a thing. Is mac even in a good spot, compared to the invasion win10 is of that which used to be privacy, or the content ownership usurpation that is win11 we now know and love. Topical video would be sweet, a reply also would be appreciated. I know there's no easy answer.
Recommendation for getting rid of extras: Right click on the taskbar and turn off: News & Interests, Show Cortana, Show TaskView Button, Show People, Show Windows Ink Space, Search : Hidden -> Uncheck Show Search Highlights You can still press the windows key and search without having to have the search bar on the screen.
The sad fact of Windows operating system is that you have to De-bloat and turn off adware, spyware, and malware before you even use your computer should be quite concerning.
Especially the fact that a paid-for, non-free OS wants to force ads on their users... this is just beyond ridiculous. Microsoft is pushing people away as hard as they can.
it's not it's just a business ..like they pay them to be installed in thier laptop this is how you make money it's pretty simple nothing like goverment spying on you ordinary JOE : D
And once you've finished all of that... create an image of the SSD to a hard drive. That way, you can simply restore that if it all goes tits up without having to go through the whole monotonous process again.
Man I am always so impressed with you how to set up your laptop after you get it. Please don't stop doing these videos. I learn so much from them. That keyboard at the end is pretty slick, but i just baught a very pricey keyboard from Glorious Gmmk full size custom with khail box browns switches and I just love. I will remember that keyboard might be really nice one to take with you places on trip for like laptop use. Have a good one my friend and God Bless.
Bonus tip. For the newer Lenovo I had to be online to install windows. I haven't figured out a workaround for that yet :( 😞 However, we did figure out to create an offline user during setup. You just pick Domain user, and since you aren't joined to domain, you trick windows into creating a local user. Ty for video, btw
"I don't have Internet" is not available by default for the Windows Home edition, to bypass this: Follow the Windows 11 install process until you get to the "choose a country" screen. Press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt. Copy and paste OOBE\BYPASSNRO into command prompt, and press Enter to disable the Internet connection requirement. The computer will reboot, and take you back to the "choose a country" screen from there you can proceed with the "I don't have Internet" local account install.
Great video. Some updates: Windows 11 now has an EarTrumpet type functionality built-in. And HTTPS Everywhere's no longer available since Firefox comes with something similar built-in.
i just learnt from another video that when installing win 11 if you set it to english world it wont install all those apps like tik tok and disney etc, then you can just change it to english US after install
One thing he missed, before turning on Bit Locker, be sure to install a printer, so that you can print and store the key. You can also sign in and out of your MS Account and back up the key there. Watch yourself here, some Laptop OEM Versions of Windows Pro automatically enable Bit Locker and I have had done initial updates, that caused the Bit Locker Screen appear after restart, this only happened once with a Dell, but if I di not have the printed Key I would have been SOOL and would have needed to download and reinstall Windows and Dell Apps and stated all over again!
Dude! I didn't even know you were in a rock band until watcing this video. I retired from playing lead guitar many years ago due to illness. I hope you and your bandmates are well.
The first thing I do is get the license-key from the motherboard, download a Linux-distro, put it on a USB-stick, boot from the USB-stick and remove all the partitions and make new partitions for UEFI, the Linux-distro and the home-directory and then install Linux. I used Windows XP, 7 and 10 and 11. I really can't tolerate Windows as since version 10. Version 7 broke my system more than one but when it worked I could tolerate it. Windows 10 got too bad with all the nag-messages, hiding extensions, incredibly weird sorting in the file manager (like sorting on name and still having the recently added files on top), lack of consistent dark mode (when I used W10 for the last time), the horrible update-process with countless interruptions. It even drove me nuts in the short time that I dualbooted with Windows10, anytime I started it up it was update-time first while I just wanted to play a game. Why are updates on Windows so slow? On Arch Linux a 2 GB update takes 2-3 minutes, and that is only because I have slow internet (8-9 MBps download).
Awesome video. Thank you! Very indepth and all in one place! I've been dreading setting up my new laptop arriving tomorrow. Having all this useful info in one place will make life a lot easier.
Getting ready to swap out the 2TB nVME in my Thinkpad P1 for a 4TB (huge dropbox for work) and wanted to play around with my current setup to try things out. This video was super helpful. Tried a windows debloat app (BloatyNosyapp), the checkmark on icons has annoyed me for months and never knew compact mode existed either. Explorer Patcher is the icing on the cake. Super mall task bar, legacy style taskbar without icons and Win 10 right-click (without reg edit), Win 10 start menu - now it feels like I'm running Windows 11 Pro for Workstations. Thanks!
This video is underrated. It deserves millions of views! Microsoft is shoving so much garbage with Windows 11 and soon 12. Thanks a lot for your honest advice!
As already mentioned “no one makes videos like this anymore.” And I “totally agree.” Clear concise speedy, very informative and intuitive. You have a new subscriber today. Absolutely amazing video love the topic. I love it when two minds think a like. Absolutely 👍👍 and of course ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thanks so much my friend for all you do !!!
Great video and ofc always enjoying your music. For viewers; I recommend GpuZ, a tiny app that will let you have a quick view of Gpu temp and usage statistics, as well as Cpu temp. HWiNFO64, MSI Afterburner, Notepad++, CpuZ, IrfanView and Winamp (newly updated!) are a few others.
I download all the apps you listed on a new install except for Winamp. I switched to Foobar when Winamp was discontinued years ago and I can't go back, lol.
Serendipity! My laptop was just delivered (upgrade from Windows 7). Thanks so much for all this info. I can venture forth with confidence and unbox this thing. And *maybe* retire my trusty 10 year-old PC.
Thanks for the tips. However, I’m puzzled that you didn’t mention one of the most important Windows settings that must be changed - show file extensions in Windows Explorer.
I work full-time for a software development company but I also own a computer repair business and I have a great collection of UA-cam channels to stay informed. Just subscribed. I have been dual booting my main laptop with Windows 10 and Kali linux. Kali is awesome, i love cli.
The last computer I did out of the box Windows 11 the option for no internet wasn't there. Had to Shift F10 and tick tack the magic commands to bypass that crap.
Speaking of anti virus. I tried different ones with my old laptop because it was just good enough to run most games at playable fps so every single frame mattered. Windows defender is really good for that. But actually Kaspersky lite (the free one) gave me an extra fps boost even over defender. But it has to be the free one, the full one is comparable to defender when it comes to its effect on the fps
I am away from my laptop at this moment. But i have just purchased extra storage and upgraded ram and ssd for it. Now, I can't wait to install my new ugrades and start fresh from scratch, using the information you provide in this great video. Thank you for helping those of us who are less knowledgeable about this stuff. Best video I've found yet. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to break this down for folks who know a little about tech but not much about the importance of security in our systems. Much appreciated!
I'm not sure if it works with a purchased pre-installed WIndows 11, but you can avoid all the bloatware by selecting "English (world)" as your language during installation. Never had bloatware since doing that. I also recommend "StartAllBack" as my favourite taskbar/start manager (it's less than the price of 1 coffee).
Awesome demo. I thought I was savvy setting up new Machines but got into the habit of “same as before and before that and before that” this is a whole new way
What I can also recommend is to create a shortcut for the Reset in the taskbar. So you can just make a reset with one click instead going the way over the start button. Right click on the desktop, New, Shortcut, type shutdown /r /t 0 then next, you can name it Reset and finish Then right click on the icon, properties, shortcut, change icon, you can choose then the shutdown icon
When you say things like Windows Defender is really good, it is better than everything else, I'm very curious where you got that information from? Could you possibly link some sources or say if it is based on your experience as a user in terms of how easy it is to use or whatever.
I think you ommitted an important setting in the explorer configuration - showing file suffixes. NOT showing them has already led to quite a few security problems, with malware being named "blabla.doc.exe", and since Windows hides the ".exe" suffix, users would believe it was a Word document and double-clicked it. In all honesty, disabling showing file name suffixes by default is one of the most brain-dead ideas Microsoft ever had. Besides this little detail, it's a great video! Lots of details I wasn't aware of.
I use the Chris Titus Tech's Windows Utility. It can debloat and also you can select 3rd party software it can install for you (from the original site)@@infotruther
My new laptop will come in 2024. The first thing I will have to do is unbox the box of parts and assemble it. Then put Linux Mint on it. Framework..... No bloatware to remove. Faster. No virus....
You cannot click on "I don't have a internet connection" with the home version of windows. You must have the pro version. Bit locker is also a pro only feature.
You really do have to go insanely far out of your way to stop Windows 11's tracking behavior but it can be done. Windows and google etc. all love to use footprint style dns requests and windows alone has consistent issues leaking DNS requests and information across programs and network adapters. Windows throws out all kinds of dns requests to various services if you so much as open the start menu. Whether this matters is dependent on you but be sure to take that into account if you're gonna use a VPN like PIA. Many times PIA software can falter when using split tunnel modes and cause your computer to use your normal IP addresses despite having programs set to use only the VPN. Pi-Hole, VPNs, VMs, Docker, and WindowsSpyBlocker are all great ways to combat this but it requires what I would consider an overbearing amount of self discipline to maintain for most people.
@Tek Syndicate I really only any want one so I can record on OBS in the field, have a place to dumb photos, do some photoshop editing while traveling, and of course to... watch videos on the internet...
Great video, thanks for making this. New to Windows 11 myself and this was very helpful. I do got to admit, I like some of the changes since I have the Surface Pro 9, and a lot of the changes are great for when I am using it as a tablet. But your vide was such a great help to get my machine dialed in for my perfect experience. Looks and works like a desktop/laptop when I have the keyboard attached, and great tablet experience when I use it in that mode. Perfect tips and tricks here. Followed you, excellent content!
yup! totally!! I grabbed a HP oh-man @ 30%off! back in October, & I performed a ''fresh'' install. one of the top five most powerful laptops! @ the time. & windows powerplan + oem geek ware. made this product un usable! imagine! a fresh install, some custom scripts. boom! magic speed! ok, blah...blah..blah... great vid!! good luck! jump in!!
what is life? life is installing and uninstalling and updating and restarting and coffee-drinking and jittering and fidgeting and finally flatlining... .. . ______
Wonderful video. One thing I would definitely have recommended is for users to consider tweaking their power settings whether it’s a laptop or desktop. You don’t always have to edit the settings but it’s always worth going through & perhaps creating a custom profile to run most of the time.
To start Windows 11 without an internet connection, follow these steps: 1. Begin the installation from a USB drive with the Windows 11 ISO. 2. When you reach the screen requesting an internet connection, press Shift + F10 to open the Command Prompt. 3. Type the command oobe\bypassnro and press Enter; this will restart the system. 4. After restarting, select the language and keyboard layout again. 5. On the internet connection screen, you will now see the option "I don't have internet".
Bypass internet connection while setting it up, make a hard backup with 3rd party software, disable windows updates or corrupt it, update drivers manually via official website, use debloater, and remove everything. Disable any privacy invasion, and there are a lot of them on win11. Now you are good.
People who aren't that (or not at all) tech savvy should never be told to remove everything. The specifics he's giving is the way to teach a diverse audience.
For me the first thing I do after install is updates, and then go and do configuring stuff. But honestly I learned a lot from this video especially things that put me off to windows 11 😑 so thanks for fixes
Hello Ward, thank you for the video, I found something new for myself. The question is, what is your new laptop? And why did you make this choice? what about Legion and Thinkpad t440p? Thank you.

Does all this information still apply or has any of it changed if so personally I would LOVE an updated version of this

I tried to turn those off as well. No luck.@@furnitureandbedding776
Gonna be saving this for my windows 11 setup video. Remembering all this is impossible but that’s what windows has turned into.

Yeah that's why i prefer linux every day.😂
But to control the people chat they have no issue
I'm not worried. I spent a lot of money, I can spend a few hours setting everything up.
And once you've finished all of that... create an image of the SSD to a hard drive. That way, you can simply restore that if it all goes tits up without having to go through the whole monotonous process again.
I had one of these saved from 6 years back, glad you've done an update.

The first thing I did after downgrading to Windows 11 was "upgrading" back to Windows 10
It's always great to see this kind of video - very useful! It was actually the Win10 version which had me subscribe years ago.
Weird. I just reinstalled my OS yesterday. Timing of this video couldn’t be more perfect. Thanks!

For Debloating, I use the Chris Titus Debloat Utility.
For more Clean-up I use Glary Utilities
I really appreciate these windows optimization videos
I have a huge proponent of ReviOS. It's a stripped version of windows 11. Everything useful still works, with zero bloat.

Thanks for everything you do Logan.
Thanks for the tip on Lenovo. My last computer was Dell and it was full of useless programs. I'm decided to upgrade to Lenovo.
i decided to.
What I can also recommend is to create a shortcut for the Reset in the taskbar. So you can just make a reset with one click instead going the way over the start button.
Right click on the desktop, New, Shortcut, type shutdown /r /t 0 then next, you can name it Reset and finish
Then right click on the icon, properties, shortcut, change icon, you can choose then the shutdown icon
worthy guide for Windows 11 but i would still prefer windows 10 ,8,7. only choose 11 cause i am bound to use it while work and study
You should know that firefox has an https only mode - no plugs needed.

Great content with lots of information explained well. Thank you.
Cool video, fun and informative with a solid delivery
First thing I do with a brand new PC: update. Then reset which removes everything. Then debloat everything else.. I use other notepad/calculator apps.
what tool do you use to debloat?
I use the Chris Titus Tech's Windows Utility. It can debloat and also you can select 3rd party software it can install for you (from the original site)@@infotruther

You cannot click on "I don't have a internet connection" with the home version of windows. You must have the pro version. Bit locker is also a pro only feature.
You can click it, but it requires using the command prompt
I use 2 piholes plus the vpn... I've made videos on the pihole before, it might have been too much to include in one video, but you are right.
In my case turning off the Internet did not work. I used a wrong MS account and then it offered me the option to go ahead with local account.
Love these kind of videos alongside NAS videos.

Great video, many thanks. I'm really digging your music too, great stuff.
Hey good ol tek syndicate been a minute! Good video brother thanks!
That UAC tip is really good, thanks

can you please elaborate? ty

what is life? life is installing and uninstalling and updating and restarting and coffee-drinking and jittering and fidgeting and finally flatlining... .. . ______
Really organized and beyond helpful. Amazing work.
Truely not all hero wears cape.
Wonderful video. One thing I would definitely have recommended is for users to consider tweaking their power settings whether it’s a laptop or desktop. You don’t always have to edit the settings but it’s always worth going through & perhaps creating a custom profile to run most of the time.
Thanks man. I'll be having a new system by tomorrow and will use most of this steps.
To start Windows 11 without an internet connection, follow these steps:
Thank you for the new keyboard to go with my new laptop.

Always great job. Now waiting for your install Windows 11 the right way!
You know, i Just subscribed to you because of the TOC you gave. That's what we want
Not gonna lie, I miss the old TS days, get in from work, crack open a beer and see what’s new, the vibe isn’t quite there anymore for me
Thanks for these and compact view because it was driving me crazy!
I remember watching this guy review the 8600GT in ancient times.
Sir, would you do a video on how you install Steam?
Thanks
For me the first thing I do after install is updates, and then go and do configuring stuff. But honestly I learned a lot from this video especially things that put me off to windows 11 😑 so thanks for fixes
Hello Ward, thank you for the video, I found something new for myself. The question is, what is your new laptop? And why did you make this choice? what about Legion and Thinkpad t440p? Thank you.
Th for this video, I do have a question. Can't we just uninstall the bloat through settings- Windows apps??
