How will this affect the upcoming ability to uninstall Cortana, Edge and Bing etc with the EU member countries settings? You know the recent new EU regulations that forces Microsoft to let the user make their own choices and not force all Microsoft stuff on everyone. "UK", "English" and/or "world" is not a specific EU member country, especially not after Brexit where UK left EU, so maybe you need to chose a country within EU to actually be able to do that? I think Microsoft came out and specifically said that it will be determined by your regional setting on set-up and that they will chose to "trust" what region setting people make to then let that trigger/activate/access the ability to remove those features (edge, bing etc). I think it will become available in April 2024, but I'm not sure if it will only be accessible with new Windows 11 installs, or maybe throgh some update which will even allow it on old installs as long as they did chose a country within EU when it was initially installed/set-up.
Probably mentioned already in the comments, but you can also re-use a OEM key on a new machine by looking for an option in the activation screen along the lines of "i changed my hardware" and it will accept it.

using the old windows 10 taskbar, small icons, and also TranslucentTB (impressively it works just fine with explorer patcher) means that my screen is so clean and clear it feels so good
Retrobar gives a decent retro taskbar, works well if you match it up with Openshell. If you shrink the taskbar in retrobar, set the menulook vertical position in openshell to a value that removes extra spacing.
This was an incredibly valuable video for me. I have been looking for an alternative to the windows 11 taskbar for quite a while now, and this will do the trick. Microsoft has something with fixing what is not broken
This video is literally making 10 and 11 look and function like 7, a Desktop OS. I like it. I've been on 7 since it released because I never liked the 8 8.1 10 and 11 interfaces which reskinned 7 and hid everything behind layers of menus. With changes to steam and win 7 compatibility and no guarantee how functional it will be Jan 1 I can use this to make it a viable OS for myself. If Steam continues to work I'm not swapping to 10/11. I've been saving a video you did like this a year or two ago in case I made the switch. I have not needed it yet.
Pretty soon proton/halo os or whatever we call the OS that steamdeck runs on, may make needing windows less important of you install it in an ubuntu environment.
Hell yeah, thanks a lot! I've been without a computer since 2015. I'm just now setting up my new pc. I've used other PCs with Windows 11 and I didn't like how they changed so much stuff. How do you set everything up is exactly how I like my shit to be. 🤘🏼
Good stuff. I just want to say that I don't care where the Start button is or what the Start Menu looks like, because I'll never actually use the mouse for them. I just hit the Super key and start typing what I want, then hit Enter. I do this on Windows, Linux, and basically on Mac (though I think you have to hit Command + Space there).
Disable in the old energy settings the "fast startup" -> this setting is the root of a lot of strange problems, also it makes that your computer doesn't completely turn off when u click "turn off" which can also cause a lot of strange problems.
Use Revo Uninstaller to do those uninstalls. I haven't seen solitare or Cortana or whatever else since first use and I update every time I reboot essentially. Also have to recommend Start 11 and Windows blinds. Yes they are paid but they do what these options do with some awesome reskins available among other things but they integrate with each other so skin designers can make even better stuff. (Highly recommend Hyana Nexha by retired master, or anything by this guy and a gal going by Vampothika, both super talented.) I use both (plus Stardocks other stuffj for even more customization) and you wouldn't even recognize as being the same OS yet I also notice only about 6 percent increased CPU usage (which I've already regained by using Revo first thing after an Install) and I'm loaded with stuff. Compatibility is fine Anyway thanks for the vid
Most of us wish Microsoft would just finish Windows 10 Or Windows XP. Or any Windows, for that matter. I've never used a version of Windows where there wasn't something broken in it.
Just watched this video and the full ExplorerPatcher video based off a UA-cam recommendation. Very helpful video and I'll definitely be using some of the software shown in the future. I'm curious if you know about Winaero Tweaker, which is a software I've been using for years to force Windows to work how I want. If you have, what are your opinions on it versus ExplorerPatcher? They both have features that do the same stuff, like fixing 11's compressed context menus, but then both vary in many other things. Would you ever use Winaero Tweaker?
ChatGPT just gave me a good comparative analysis of Winaero Tweaker vs ExplorerPatcher. Both tend to have issues after major Windows updates, but generally less catastrophic with Winaero Tweaker. With either, I'm thinking it would be wise to delay Windows updates and to keep an eye on user forums for reports of problems.
dont even need to watch it to know that open shell rocks! No more mobile app/bubbly/wasted space/triple spaced fonts for the desktop!! Now, all we need is a second instance of Settings LOL. Thats one of the biggest reason the legacy control panel is way better. Also, you should do a video on Atlas OS.
I personally use StartAllBack as it at the time it had more features and felt I could make it function like windows 7 but looks Identical to 11. But I used to use Classic Shell couple of years ago and for a free program I can't complain.
@@screwball992 I've heard that, but currently there are more options in open shell. The customization for your menu items is pretty deep and ofc you can edit things like width of the pop out menus, how many pop outs, animations, delays for any action. Way more, also FLOSS.
Ninite is cool. You avoid accidentally installing some crup you don't really want. Just to remind people that if you want an absolutelay usable Windows 10/11 from the get go, maybe try PhoenixOS or Ghost Spectre, TeamOS lite versions of Windows. I have PhoenixOS Superlite on my Thinkpad helper laptop and this thing almost made me consider installing it as dual boot on my main. Yeah, PhoenixOS Superlite is that good. For me. I hate Windows. But I have to use it for some music-audio stuff on the side.
Great video. As someone whose first computer is on win11, I actually like some of the win11 interface. The start menu can be convienent if you know you want to open a specific frequenly opened file or setting (one example for each: dimmer.zip and display settings, since I have a laptop), and it places apps in a visually convienent and accessible spot . The classic address bar win11 for file explorer also had that exact same feature you complained about wanting in win10. Otherwise, win11 is dogshit, I agree. Needlessly hidden features, etc. Even as someone who likes win11, I hate the disktop context menu and new address bar design. I knew abt explorer patch before watching, but appreciated it even more, having seen how people on win10 hate using win11 ui.
It's very impressive how Microsoft is working at removing all the refinement that made Windows better than the average Linux desktop environment. YES I CAN GET BACK MY THIN TASKBAR, thank you!
I appreciate Microsoft for bringing the Linux experience to their users by making their OS continuously more shit so you have to do a 3h configuration session to make it slightly usable on a fresh install. Jokes aside, great video ^.^
I need for a fresh Windows install with 99% of my settings and programs like under 1 hour. But it is only possible because i saved my settings in folder in with screenshots, once you saved it is takes just few minutes and my programs are also ready downloaded. If you are not prepared and have to search for things or find it out again, it easily could take 2 hours. Preparation is the key.
The difference is Windows requires customization to make it work, most Linux distros work out of the box but you'll end up spending several hours because the official customization tools are that extensive.
Thanks for the tips. I used to use Open Shell and was unaware that it worked in 11. Can't stand the illogical way they present things from the start menu.
I was excited thinking I was going to turn my computer into something cooler. I disagree with your first 5 or 6 sections because it's basically just going back to older windows and I find Windows 11 much, much nicer to use.
great video! I thought about how frustrating the extra click is when right clicking the desktop just yesterday and that I need it gone! I couldn't find your security video anywhere though. Even scrolled your channel =/ Oh and could you do a video on alternatives to "Game boosters"? I'm driven mad of how my computer constantly can be heard working, speeding up and do things I can't look up! In task manager its only "anti malware", "health update" and endless of "hosts"
does that Open Shell replace the entire task bar ? because right now in Win 23H2 you can't drag and drop thing from one app to another by dragging a file over the app in the taskbar anymore, and it's almost a dealbreaker for me. EDIT: OK, I installed Explorer Patcher and that now finally allows me to drag and drop to the taskbar again. 👍👍
I remember your old video about this topic and you helped me with a loot of useful stuff. Now start all back and power tools are part of my daily life, i cant live witouth them anymore. I Highly recommed Start all back instead of power shell, it offers more options and the full version is not expensive.
Cool. I won't change as much as you. I actually like search on the taskbar. So I can type the first letter and bring up the most used apps of that letter and I don't have to clutter my taskbar or desktop or go into Start menu. I would like to bring back old explorer as Win11 doesn't have a video play all feature when you select multiple vids. I can right click and do that but rather do it from explorer.
I have a 49 inch ultrawide, and in theory having the start menu in the center would be more friendly... however, I think more of the time I'm actually using the system tray, which is still down in the right corner!!!
imo for ultrawides, you should have the taskbar on the side since youre wasting far less space. That, and have you ever actually clicked the start button before? I assumed evryone just clicks the win key and starts typing.
We're trying to avoid cruft. Windows 11 plus VLC covers your need of codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack is recommended only for users of classic Windows Media Player in the rare instance that an old unpopular codec is needed.
If you select English (World) as a region during setup, it will actually save you a couple of clicks, it won't install any bloatware.

Just remember to set your region post install if you do need MS store, otherwise it does bork some features.

Except they dropped the mobile Windows for the phone, which was really good. Redmond copied Google in not sticking with a product until it matured and they’ve regretted it ever since.
thank you from someone using 11 and thinking FFS a lot of the time. I can know adjust how i want the interface :)
Thank god, this has been driving me nuts.
Good video. I'm holding out on Windows 10 as long as I can, but will eventually upgrade to 11 when something eventually comes along to force me. These suggestions will make the OS much more bearable.
on 11 but os is so ☹am setting mine back to 10 look just so i can click and its what i want where i want. and too video creator 10/10
ChrisTitusTech has videos like this, and he actually knows what he is doing. This guy's video here is ok, but he isn't someone I would trust for pc info. That first 30s of the video where he removes things like a brand new PC user who has no clue how to admin his own system.
eh. I think by that time win12 is out. Not getting security updates will not make me upgrade.
I don't know what microsoft was snorting when they made windows 11
This is one of the best videos I have seen online to help change Windows 11s awful UI into something much more user friendly and streamlined.
using the old windows 10 taskbar, small icons, and also TranslucentTB (impressively it works just fine with explorer patcher) means that my screen is so clean and clear it feels so good
Retrobar gives a decent retro taskbar, works well if you match it up with Openshell. If you shrink the taskbar in retrobar, set the menulook vertical position in openshell to a value that removes extra spacing.
It'll be perfect when we get a system tray replacement.. or at least replace the modern clock and networking flyouts
This was an incredibly valuable video for me. I have been looking for an alternative to the windows 11 taskbar for quite a while now, and this will do the trick. Microsoft has something with fixing what is not broken
Amazing work, always really impressive, but this was just extra. This might be my favorite - loved the legs but the desk did it for me. Amazing.
I always uninstall Onedrive first thing, MS starts backing up files there and then tries to sell you more Onedrive space, ridiculous.
You sir, are a computing god, subscribed
This video is literally making 10 and 11 look and function like 7, a Desktop OS.
I like it. I've been on 7 since it released because I never liked the 8 8.1 10 and 11 interfaces which reskinned 7 and hid everything behind layers of menus.
With changes to steam and win 7 compatibility and no guarantee how functional it will be Jan 1 I can use this to make it a viable OS for myself. If Steam continues to work I'm not swapping to 10/11.
I've been saving a video you did like this a year or two ago in case I made the switch. I have not needed it yet.
you should consider using gog or pirating where justified for games, DRM games are a worse experience even with steam
Excellent advice, great video. You may want to blur your details, order numbers, and keys though.
Disable in the old energy settings the "fast startup" -> this setting is the root of a lot of strange problems, also it makes that your computer doesn't completely turn off when u click "turn off" which can also cause a lot of strange problems.
My key was a dud. Thanks, man.
Edit: I contacted support and they sorted it for me.
It's crazy the amount of things you'll have to do to simply make Windows 11 functional...
Morrowind rocks, thx for the great info
I'm dreading the eventual Win11 Update... never I'm my life have I seen an extensive set of tweaks to have a barely functioning Windows install.
Compact view makes sense 1080p or lower resolution but in higher resolutions you probably don't want it depending on your scaling options.
From Windows 11 Smoothbrain to Windows 11 Desktop, nice
Windows 11 is the Ikea version of Windows ... you have to put in a heck of a lot of work to get something final that's working
how to fix windows 11: make it windows 10
Isn't it crazy, that we have to do all this, to get a proper desktop UI?
Microsoft really does not understand its users.
Watched till the end waiting for something usual
Spicetify + Spotify and Rainmeter With Nord Skin and Monstercat + Wallpaper Engine, Best Looks
(Highly recommend Hyana Nexha by retired master, or anything by this guy and a gal going by Vampothika, both super talented.)
I use both (plus Stardocks other stuffj for even more customization) and you wouldn't even recognize as being the same OS yet I also notice only about 6 percent increased CPU usage (which I've already regained by using Revo first thing after an Install) and I'm loaded with stuff. Compatibility is fine
Anyway thanks for the vid
Most of us wish Microsoft would just finish Windows 10
Or Windows XP. Or any Windows, for that matter.
I've never used a version of Windows where there wasn't something broken in it.
"Microsoft Disliked that" GOOD!
My little HP Elitedesk came with Window 11 installed - it didn't last long, I installed Linux to restore my sanity.
DUDE THIS CHANGED MY FUCKING LIFE I FUCKING LOVE YOU.
Windows 11/10 to >>> upgrade >>> Windows 7! Windows 7 Forever!
Install Windows completly offline. No bloatware from the start. All keys can work no problem. System activated offline. No payments whatsoever .😮😮😮
"How To Make Windows 11 Into A Desktop OS"
**use it to create a Windows 7 install disk**
For uninstalling the bloatware, have you tried the utility created by Chris Titus? I find it useful especially the old version.
dont even need to watch it to know that open shell rocks!
Way more, also FLOSS.
this wallpaper gives me nostalgia
Customization availability is really impressed me as a linux user wow Look at that
Ninite is cool.
This is a very well done video which allows many of the best functions to return very easily, thanks for the exceptional effort.
I actually prefer having the icons centre of the taskbar now. Makes more sense to me...
Thanks for the tips. I used to use Open Shell and was unaware that it worked in 11.
Can't stand the illogical way they present things from the start menu.
How much does all this impact performance? Does it take alot of memory?
I was excited thinking I was going to turn my computer into something cooler. I disagree with your first 5 or 6 sections because it's basically just going back to older windows and I find Windows 11 much, much nicer to use.
Oh deer when I was young and could dedicate that much time to smth as unimportant as desktop outlook ;)
great video! I thought about how frustrating the extra click is when right clicking the desktop just yesterday and that I need it gone! I couldn't find your security video anywhere though. Even scrolled your channel =/
Oh and could you do a video on alternatives to "Game boosters"? I'm driven mad of how my computer constantly can be heard working, speeding up and do things I can't look up! In task manager its only "anti malware", "health update" and endless of "hosts"
does that Open Shell replace the entire task bar ? because right now in Win 23H2 you can't drag and drop thing from one app to another by dragging a file over the app in the taskbar anymore, and it's almost a dealbreaker for me.
EDIT:
OK, I installed Explorer Patcher and that now finally allows me to drag and drop to the taskbar again. 👍👍
Great video, man. I might finally upgrade.
I remember your old video about this topic and you helped me with a loot of useful stuff. Now start all back and power tools are part of my daily life, i cant live witouth them anymore. I Highly recommed Start all back instead of power shell, it offers more options and the full version is not expensive.
I have start all back on my other PC, but I think I prefer open shell now that it's been updated (and I've learned all the features).
for the context menu I use nilesoft shell, it's open source and really functional and costumizable
BRILLIANT INFO Thank You so Much, Well Done.
I find the task view useful because I set up an autohotkey script that lets me switch desktops by scrolling on the taskbar.
We're trying to avoid cruft. Windows 11 plus VLC covers your need of codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack is recommended only for users of classic Windows Media Player in the rare instance that an old unpopular codec is needed.
A lot of what you're showing, is preferences.
So you think that not preferring to have as much control over the look and functionality of your system is a good thing? Wow!
There is a Windows 11 shortcut that jumps to Linkin, I am not even joking.
