"Non-Affirming" Parents vs. the State of Montana | Guest: Todd & Krista Kolstad | Ep 944

  • Today we're joined by Todd and Krista Kolstad, Montana parents who find themselves entangled in an ongoing months-long custody battle for their 14-year-old daughter. The couple candidly open up about the challenges they faced and the heartbreak they endured after losing custody of their daughter. Montana's Child and Family Services gained custody of their daughter when they refused to affirm her newfound "gender identity" as a boy. We delve into the origin of the dispute, starting as a seemingly minor disagreement and escalating into a legal battle that no parent could anticipate. The Kolstads courageously navigate through the difficult terrain of their daughter's claims of wanting to harm herself, shedding light on the emotional toll this took on their family. Then, we give our take on the corruption within government organizations created to "protect" children and how we can fight back against cases where their actions are not for the good of children.

Yes! This! 100% don’t let CPS talk with your child alone, don’t let them in your house. Don’t give them a tour. Tell CPS they can speak with your lawyer, give them your lawyer’s info, and close the door on them. This situation could’ve been avoided. :/

💯CPS is not on your side! They are just another arm of the progressive government and the governor of Montana ought to be ashamed of himself for supporting this! Is he a RINO!? I just saw a video of him standing with Governor Abbott of Texas, so I wonder why he adopts some Republican policies, and not others?! So troubling and what a terrible, terrible situation!

My 3 year old son got out of the house while I laying down nursing my baby to sleep. He got brought back by a sheriff who opened my door and shouted sheriff's office. My dogs were barking crazy. I ran out with my top undone still scared to death trying to get my dogs of the deputy. Anyway he looked at me and said if he gets out again I am arressting you and taking your children. So I called my husband crying and telling him he needed to get more locks for the door bc he got the chain lock undone. Well later cps showed up. I would not let them in my home and answered the questions on the porch. She said she needed to see the kids so I went and got them and brought them outside. I told her my husband was bringing home locks. She said she would have to come back and see the locks installed. But that was the only place I let her see when she came back. I am scared to death of those people. Don't trust them one bit.

My goodness this happens to a lot of moms I have a autistic evader who is 4 . We have weird locks on things to keep him safer including the inside of some doors . I always explain it to people . We have to keep him out of bathrooms for now .. we have alarms on the doors if he tries to leave . All for his safety . Kids can get outside and have it not really be your fault .. it’s absurd that an officer jumps right to abuse !

From these podcasts, I learned you don't need to let CPS in. You can bring the children to the door to let them see they are okay. And if there is a report, get a lawer if possible

You should not trust them. Record everything on your cellphone. If there are two people there have them both recording, if you have a video camera connected to your computer have it recording. (they're at work and they have no expectation of privacy in your home or on your property) Don't sign anything. Let them view the children from a window, don't bring them outside, and don't let them inside. Be very polite to them, especially on camera. Once they close the case then the best thing to do is move somewhere else, preferably outside of that county.

Just moved from Montana after 20 years there. Bizarre this could happen, especially since the state legislature and governor are Republican and have specifically buckled down on gender confusion issues. I could see places like Missoula, Bozeman, and Whitefish (where I lived) pursuing parents in this way, but not the state.

Completely agree. We fostered a baby who is now back with his mother. Praise God she is now sober. It was a long 10 months for our family, and I do believe had we not pushed the baby’s mom to go to rehab, I literally drove her there, she would not have gone, and we would still be fostering and having visits with her even while she was using, regardless if it was best for her child or not since CPS in that county pushes reunification pretty hard.

Absolutely! Interesting C P S would be pushing for reunification with druggie, alcoholic , abusive parents.. but loving parents who accept her for who she was genetically/biologically born , even when she didn’t accept her own self , they would tear this loving family apart. The parents did the right thing. In my opinion the state kidnapped her child. Most people struggle to accept and know themselves for decades . Why would a child be given full drastic autonomy?? This is a psychotic upside down world. Lord Jesus may your will be done in these cases. Bless and surround these parents in Jesus name.

@@talkslikeaduck1Yes as a parent I would accept her feelings but also sit with my child and go over hormones and puberty and mental health details. I'd say that even if I don't like it or don't agree, she could make her own decisions when she becomes a grown fully informed adult. Not at 13.

Something very similar happened with me and my child. My daughter told us she was gay at 16 years old and I as a parent was trying to wrap my mind around it. I started counseling for myself voluntarily. A couple of weeks later she asked me if she could go to a sleepover with a bunch of girls.I didn't know the parents of the girl who was having the sleepover and I asked for their phone number and address so I could meet them. She wouldn't give it to me and so I said no. She was very angry and demanded an explanation. I told her if her straight sister asked me if she could go to a sleepover with a bunch of boys the answer would be no. Its no different in your case. She went to the DHS and told a bunch of lies about myself and my now ex husband. Family counseling was ordered by the DHS. We were all in compliance. Through this whole process our other children were almost taken away, our living conditions were fine and she lied that I made her do all the housework. Complete lie... We went to court hearings and we're put through complete hell. In the end I now have a child abuse record ( on her word only) and I lost my career in the medical field. She won a Matthew Shepherd scholarship based on all the lies about us and wrote about us in her "WInning" essay. 4 years of University college paid for!!!! She has now transitioned to a man, refuses to speak to me at all and holds a position now as a " counselor" for others as her. I want to scream at the top of my lungs that this person may have a degree for this but is a complete scammer. My whole family was torn apart. These people are only out for themselves.

These poor folks are free to wait for the legal system, but in my opinion, if these monsters ripped my child from my home, I would quit my job, sell everything, pick up my child, and move somewhere where no one could find my family. It sounds drastic, but the alternative is much, much worse. Sometimes we are placed in such situations and so have to act decisively for the love of a little one...

I got in trouble with APS a number of years back as a healthcare worker with something that wasn’t fully my fault. I did the same thing when they came to talk to me. I thought I would be fine and I regret that so much. You are right that as honest people we think we don’t have anything to hide but that just isn’t true in our system. I completely agree: layer up, don’t talk to anyone until you have advice from a professional. They can’t force you to, but they absolutely will poke at anything you say for something to use against you. “You have the right to remain silent,” use it.

My dislike and distrust for c p s started when I was a child.😢 My mother Had Acute chronic pancreatitis And risked her life giving birth Twice and my family was always there for us. If she was down or having a surgery I was always with someone that Loved me. When she was doped up after a surgery in the hospital, CPS came in and tricked her into signing some paperwork. And lost my Brother to the system. Later it happened Again. They came in the hospital room while she was still on medication doped up from surgery. But this time she refused to sign until my grandma came. Thank God for Grandma. She ripped Up that paperwork and Call her other daughter and brother in law. I call them mom and dad today. I am legally adopted by them. I grew up with two moms and a dad. The only way to keep them from taking me from her was to Take me away themselves. I'm 42 now and I still hate CPS. Thank god for my family. The way I see it They told her she was a bad mom for having an illness that she couldn't control. But yet she was responsible enough to always make sure I was with the right people when it was time to go to the hospital. I also am living my life with severe depression and anxiety. I have real bad separation anxiety. Social anxiety. PTSD. Oh yeah, and then there's fear of abandonment. And spending my whole life in therapy. And fear of having kids. I can't move on and live normal life. I still live with my adopted parents. And we lost my mom a few years ago. Thank god for the time I did get to have with her. Watching this story makes me wanna put myself in mom's shoes. And feel the way she was feeling when this was happening.😢
I pray that this family gets the outcome of they deserve.

Coming from experience as a minor in a psych facility, this was not even an issue 3 years ago. I would go to the medical director and hire a CRIMINAL attorney. This is basically munchausen by-proxy in a hospital setting. They are forcing the troubled kid identity onto her for insurance and parasitic purposes. I’m confused why the parents do not have authority and what case manager presented for abuse…because the girls in the unit are often severely abused and not able to escape troubled homes. But these people are criminalized? This is insane and I almost don’t believe it. Justice will prevail. Unfortunately, this story is only the beginning.

The medical community started asking this in 2017 I had to ask every patient about their sexual identity and preferences and I let the patient read the questions. Triage is often crowded and privacy is not the greatest, I told the administration that these are not questions that need to be asked in triage it has nothing to do with identifying the symptoms of their complaint and should be reserved for when they get a room to be seen in private. Luckily there were enough complaints by patients sent in about this line of questioning they changed it for that reason. Turns out they were doing a study to find out how many patients identified as homosexual or bisexual for risks of Sexually Transmitted diseases. It is so hard to be a nurse and a Christian in this secular medical field. I pray your daughter comes to understand how you are fighting for her life. Prayers for you and your family.

I have complete compassion for this couple and I am praying so hard for this child, their daughter. And for them as they walk this road. The Lord is with them and I pray that He intervenes in a huge way.
That being said, this is a great warning to parents and this is something my husband I have talked over so much. We need to be ultra careful about what jobs we let our children have while they're in the home... What people? They are hanging around there and elsewhere. Oftentimes it is not good for children to roam the mall or other places before they have the maturity and the decision making and discernment that comes with being an adult. Also, the public schools are dangerous. Not to say that there aren't some public schools out there that are good. However, if you start seeing that your child is having issues in school and you're not necessarily supported by the administration or they have a culture that is otherwise to your belief, then We should have our child taken out of that school immediately. It's not in our best interest to wait around and see what a secular government and administration will do with our kids.

All conservatives everywhere need to be active in their communities and to hold all “republican” leaders accountable.

CPS (Child Protective Services) has been growing in power for decades. They routinely circumvent parental rights. This has happened because even being investigated by them is taboo. NO ONE stands up to them. They operate in secret (sealed) courts. I've actually heard judges tell parents "the constitution stops at those doors." They prey on the weak and poor. Many of their intake questions are to determine the financial ability of the parents to hire an attorney. They are actually trained to treat people who are on government assistance differently than people who make a lot of money. They are essentially police officers, not social workers, like the secret police in Nazi Germany. They are dishonest, will twist your words, and consider it a "win" when they get to remove a child from their parents. For example, during an interview with a young father of a female infant. "Have you ever touched your child's genitalia?" The father answered, "No of course not!". Then the agent asked him "Do you change her diaper?" The father said, "Yes all the time." "So you have never cleaned your daughter when you changed her diaper?" The father answered, "Well, yes of course I've cleaned her with baby wipes." So the agent documented. "The father first denied ever touching his daughter's genitals but when pressed admitted to touching her genitals multiple times." Later I heard the agent bragging about this and how in court the judge removed the child. I have had a lot of experience dealing with them because I have children and then I worked for them on several contracts as a computer technician and printer repair technician.

I spent my first 36yrs confused and unhappy. I am a female, but believed I was in the wrong body. I grew up in a very religious family and was scared to tell anyone. I married a man, had three beautiful babies but was never happy. When my kids were still in elementary I decided I wanted to be happy and left my husband with kids in tow. I am now 54 and live with the fact that I deprived my children, they're father and his parents of so much. I experienced the lifestyle I thought would make me happy. What I realized is that I would never be able to feel whole. Surgeries can not make you feel complete. My family have always been supportive which is very important. I am now living a happy life with myself. I still am not attracted to men but I choose not to be with women because I feel that it is wrong. These people that want to mutilate children are lying to these kids. There are zero medical procedures that could make me feel the way a man feels when with a woman. Communication, research and time is the only way to get through this.

This is disingenuous reporting. This is a custody dispute between Todd (the father in the video) and his ex, the “birth mother” and legal mother of the child. They are such liars using a term like “birth mother” which implies that either both Todd and his wife legally adopted the child, or that at least that Todd’s wife, the stepmother, legally adopted the child. However that is not possible to have happened because if the “birth mother’s” parental rights had actually been terminated, which is what would have happened if Todd’s wife legally adopted the child, then the child would not have been sent to live with her MOTHER. It would be akin to sending a child to live with any stranger which does not happen, even in messed up child welfare situations. This case is a history dispute between parents and ex lovers, not a persecution of two legal parents.
I also noticed the lack of emotions and think it is clear that Todd’s wife, the step mother, does not have a maternal bond to this child, and it IS about control for this couple. It is SAD that this child has such a schmuck of a father that he created this whole mess and now she is being put at risk with this “transgender medicine” because of how much Todd sucks. If Todd and his ex were still together this would be a totally different situation

The "Recommended treatment" is based on a study from Sweden that looked at suicide rates between transitioned and non-transitioned trans people. In the original study, the rate of suicide was lower in the transitioned people. The study is used as the basis for all trans policy in Medical America.
Once the study became their bible, the study was updated. Medical America does not acknowledge or ever mention the update.
The update: After looking at both groups for a longer period of time, the rate of suicide is unchanged. The reason suicide was lower immediately after transitioning is because those people were still seeing a therapist. Once they stopped seeing a therapist, the rate of suicide returned to "normal," which proves medical transitioning has no effect (and is more likely to cause someone to suicide once they realize they've mutilated their body and their dysphoria remains).
The only thing that has shown any improvement in the rates of suicide in either group is therapy. But Medical America will not acknowledge the updated study.
There's also the RaRe study in Britain - This is where they get the "47% of trans youth has attempted suicide" myth. The study got 2000 questionnaires back, only 140-ish were trans, and only 27 of them were under 30. Those 27 are the only ones used to come up with the 47% number. The study is highly flawed and it cannot be used as a basis for making life altering decisions for children - Or letting them make the decision on their own.
    But... Here we are...

Ok that was confirmed now…was the adoption info stated in the beginning of the episode? I feel like this is important info and no one said anything til they randomly mentioned a birth mother. I def could’ve missed it tho being distracted with stuff hahah!

The parents in the interview were the birth father and stepmother. The birth mother lives in Canada. It wasn't really stated clearly, but I can understand why they didn't think to state it because it's just their life 🤷🏻‍♀️ and split homes are not exactly uncommon now.

Todd the dude in the video is the father and it is so disingenuous how they didn’t clarify these important details. Using terms like “birth mother” implies that at the least, Todd’s wife legally adopted the child, but she clearly did not, if the LEGAL MOTHER, was given back custody. The child would not have been sent back to live with her mother if the “birth mother’s” parental rights had actually been terminated, which is what would have happened if Todd’s wife adopted this child. Sneaky reporting here where they are glossing over details that completely change the point of the story. Todd is a schmuck and his wife is a stepmother who clearly has no actual maternal bond to the child

This case is more of a custody dispute between two legal parents and ex lovers than it is about the state taking custody away from two legal parents. A balogna story about an issue that actually is very important

This story is crazy sad and disturbing and very much needs to be heard. HOWEVER, why are we broadcasting her location and alias??? Please don’t do that!

    - the healing will not come exactly with explaining as 'that they were fearfully and wonderfully made' - but instead, as to the : why ; how ; who that they were fearfully and wonderfully made > This is such as the coming [true quickening]

I was born and raised in MT a 4th generation. Now live in FL. This blows my mind! I would expect that of Washington Colorado or Canada but not Montana! Even the governor endorsed this removal?! Insane!

The thing I didn't realize until I was an adult and that most even adults don't realize that we all have the same feeling of not fitting in. Some people's feeling is stronger then others some people don't get hung up on it exa but it's there even for the most sociable people you would never think. When your in school there are all these different groups that you are trying to figure were fit in the closet too. It's no wonder kids can fall into this so easy. Because most kids in the group feel the same way they finally feel they may fit in so it only ensures that yes this must be true. Or that a kid is so desperate to find a group they mimic the group to fit in. Then on top of it kids who figure out that they really are not see what this truly is and will come out you know I really am not and then get bullied and are even more isolated. Kids may see this so they fight that they really are.
Best thing to do from early age is to tell your kids this is a normal feeling surprisingly we all have the feeling at times and help them work through it. By both possibly things they can work on and also realizing their differences make them them and they are super.
