    Issue has since been resolved with latest firmware update. Took almost two years since Eufy was made aware of the security concern but at least they didn't stick to their response saying it's operating as intended and realized that was idiotic. All thanks to content creators like yourself and the community keeping these companies in check. Thank you.

      I got an update on 12.10.22 for my outdoor c24 cams and an update on 12.11.22 for my solo cam e40 stating "Long press SYNC for 10 seconds to restore factory settings is no longer supported". I'm sure this will roll out for all cameras soon.

      @mediamixerpete954 The cameras should update automatically but I came across this just by checking the cameras current firmware and it gave me the option to update the cameras so if you haven't checked the firmware I would do that.

    UPDATE: It appears there's a lot more trouble going on with Eufy than just the issue i talk about in this video. Linus Tech Tips did a video talking about other security feature with Eufy cameras.

    Like with Linus, i am parting ways with Eufy, and all the other companies under Anker.
    People in the Eufy Forums are not getting the resolution they are looking for. I made this video to bring more attention to this flaw in hopes that it gets resolved.

      Steve can you tell me here briefly what brands do NOT require a monthly subscription? I am about to buy 6 noorio b200 but I want to use them with no subscription. Are they fully functional w/o a sub? I heard some features are only available via subscription. Any other (non-sub) brands you recommend?

      It was highlighted a lot longer ago then that on the Anker forum before they created eufy's own forum
      At least now / with newer cameras the footage comes back, with the original system it went & never returned, I'll try it again with mine when I have chance but if people have a different model of camera or homebase I'd suggest trying it yourself

      Thank you for bringing this attention to your viewers and to potential buyers. I brought this up to Eufy in December of 2020 and on the forum boards in January of 2021, I’m actually the comment underneath Eufy’s forum moderator in your video. Everything you described as their response and tested is 100% accurate.
      Once we kept getting the runaround, I just quit buying Eufy cameras. Plus, their app is always so laggy with accessing footage. I believe they focus on getting new products to market and don’t focus on the major issues they have with their system. It’s sad because Anker is so much better than this.

    Good thing UA-camrs are looking out for us and calling out these companies when they find flaws. I have cameras from different brands so if one camera flaw from one brand is exploited it won't work on the other cameras.

    Easy way to sort this would be for Eufy to get a PIN to pop up on the users device. That way potential thieves would not be able to delete the cam.

      The PIN pops up now. not every time. But I guess the app logs you out after some time of inactivity and when you try to open it again, you get the two factor authentication PIN

I already have the doorbell camera with 2c pro with eufy cam 2 pro for 2years now. NOW this really really pissed me off with is FLAW. I think I may switch to the YOREX wired or wirelless version.     Thank you for the video. I had heard about this before, but you demonstrated it in the video. Like others, I was getting ready to buy the Eufy system, cameras plus home security. Reolink was recommended by our Smart home installer too, so will seriously look at that now.

    As an IT guy might add this to your testing if you don't now. Most of these cams seem to fully depend on Internet. What happens if internet is down say for power or service outage. Do these cameras store anything and re-sync all data when internet is back online?

    What alternative home security smart camera system would you recommend instead? I'm trying to find something which doesn't require a subscription service if you store footage locally but there aren't many options... Blink? Arlo?

    The reason why I'm interested in a recording camera in the first place, is the fact that I can be easily killed in a near future. When this happens, I need the recordings to be secured. This is a HUGE dealbreaker for me.

    have you tried pulling the hard drive out of the base station to see if you can access the footage from the "de-synced" camera when using it as an external storage device on another pc?

    Thanks for bringing this up. I've been in contact with eufy for the past several days. I received an email from the engineering team stating, "Our action plan, "press and hold 10s on the Sync button erase binding and settings feature" will be canceled." The've been really good at customer service so far for me, so hoping for a quick resolution. Thanks for posting this video.

    That is an absolute deal breaker for me. That is in unacceptable security flaw. And even more concerning that they are blatantly ignoring all their customers complaints and don’t care.

    Ooof! Thanks for this. I'm currently researching a home solution that doesn't require a monthly subscription, and Eufy has gone from top of my list to the bottom in the space of 8 minutes and four seconds.

      @@marcialabrahantes3369 to be honest I don’t know now. I didn’t really want to be running wires and the Eufy seemed perfect for my needs without having to pay a subscription. But with this and also with the other recent security issue of theirs I really do think I might be better with a wired solution.

    Thanks for posting this review. My wife and I are having a house built and was looking into Eufy security system. Love the idea of having all the videos stored locally instead of on a cloud. Now that I know about this security flaw I will be moving on to something else. Thanks Eufy, you just pushed away another potential customer because you won't address security flaws, nor will you listen to your customers about these security flaws.

      If i were building, I would hardwire, no question. I bought Eufy so i wouldn't have to run wire in a built home.

    Hi Steve Thanks for making this video i want to confirm if any Eufy gets de-sync we lose all recorded video even the file in the SSD driver or only for the interior hard drive? when synced back the Eufy camera gets all the record files back at homebase? Thanks

    My issue is with eufy’s theft risk. I’ve lost three of them. You see someone looking at it one day, looking around for more cameras, then a few days later it just disappears. They discover it, look at the kind, realize it’s a highly resellable eufy, then sneak up behind it and take it. Eufy refuses to take any effort to lock a stolen camera, which just increases its theft value.

      @@flubberghosted2472 - I’ve actually done that. I have cameras protecting cameras as at $157. each it gets expensive fast. I’ve lost 5 of them now, the last guy/person had planned ahead, parked a ways away, wore a mask, and calmly and very slowly so they wouldn’t have the theft alarm (motion sensor) go off. I got a motion alert to show him calmly pocketing one of them, and the other just showed a hand reaching up.

    It makes sense for the footage to be gone from the app if it uses on board storage vs. using the new Home 3 that allows expanded storage. Once the device is no longer synced to your home, how could the footage still show in the app?
    Also assuming you don't use the cloud storage to.

    Idk if they fixed this issue either but I had to take my eufy doorbell offline for renovations and I couldn't access any recordings on my homepage unless I reconnect the doorbell.
    So what if someone decides to smash my doorbell? Nothing I can do. Unaccessible....
    Also messaged eufy about it but they just said will tell developer

    Would setting up these cameras to use Apple Homekit secure video and store clips in iCloud circumvent this problem? I wonder if the clips would remain in iCloud if the camera was removed with this method?

    The fact that Eufy says they're working as intended is definitely a cause for concern. It actually makes the "security" of the camera rather useless. Cause, let's face it, not everyone has the ability to install a camera so high up to prevent someone from easy access to it. Thinking one's footage is secure on the Homebase inside their home only to find out at an inconvenient time that the footage isn't secure? And Eufy doesn't plan to correct that? Bummer.
    I plan to share this video to hopefully help others be more informed. Thanks again for letting us know.

      Was thinking I should get a home base compatible eufy cam but now I know it doesn't make any difference whether on device or on the home base. I have another brand of camera with free cloud storage in addition to SD card in the camera like the reolink.

    Does this also occur with Eufy new AI home base that just came out? I believe it's called S380, at the end of December Eufy said that even S40 solar charged cameras with internal storage will have their footage stored in that home base if connected.

    There's a different issue with Eufy as well. They seem to be disposable/randomly die within a year.
    I bought two of the eufy solo e20 cams in November 2021 and set each up...one for the front of the house, one for the back. They each worked wonderfully until May, 2022. It was odd, but within a couple weeks of each other, both cameras died.
    The cause of death? Not sure, but they each started refusing to connect or stay connected to the network. I tried everything and even walked through troubleshooting with Eufy. This happened to both cameras within a few weeks of each other and I immediately went through the steps of trying to fix each when it happened. That means I dealt with all of this twice.
    Anyway, the end result for each situation was Eufy sending replacement cameras because I was still under the 1 year warranty.
    So...May/June 2022, I have two new eufy cameras back up and operating great. I was happy with Eufy support. They're great and seemed to stand by their product. No hassle on the replacement process.
    Now, we are in April 2023. Guess what happened? One of the cameras is doing exactly what happened to the original cameras....refusing to connect to the network. It's out of the blue, too. It was working fine and it was time to charge it so I put it on the charger and got the notification that charging was done. Suddenly it won't connect. It won't even beep if you try to go through the steps to uninstall the camera altogether and reinstall. I can't even factory reset it. I tried going through the steps with Eufy customer service to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Sure enough I was doing it right. The camera has just decided it's not going to work anymore.
    I asked Eufy if these cameras are intended to be disposable, and they assured me they are not, however I find the evidence to suggest otherwise. This is now three cameras which have died when they are less than a year old.
    I am no longer under the 1 year warranty which only applies to the original purchase date. Eufy does not warranty the product to last a year. They promise to replace faulty products that die within a year of the original purchase. That's a big difference, and to be fair, that's industry standard as far as warranty practices go.
    However, what the heck, Eufy? The evidence shows that your products are meant disposable cameras that are thrown away and replaced once you use for 6 months to a year. At least the Eufy solocam e20 is.
    Let's see how much longer the back yard camera lasts. If I'm correct, it won't last more than a few more months.
    Anyone have suggestions on a camera brand without a subscription they would recommend?

    Is it possible that the videos are either (obviously) coded to that camera, or that they are actually somehow stored on the camera? Maybe they want you to save specific videos on another device, and then delete the unnecessary videos on the Eufy device.

    Idk about eufy any more, I purchased 2 indoor mini 2k Wi-Fi pan & tilt. When it’s on privacy mode usually around 2am or 3am the camera goes turns on by itself rotates then goes back to privacy mode?

    Ive had nothing but issues with this camera. The 2k wireless Doorbell Camera will also not record the footage if you are currently looking through the camera in real time. So if someone is breaking into your home and you happen too look while the crime is being committed, the home base will NOT store and save the footage - which is idiotic. You have to hit the record button within the app on your phone to record the current video.

    So in theory, does this mean that if someone walked up to my property with bad intentions, they could hold that button down and there would be no footage of them coming up to the camera and anything they did afterwards ? you mentioned re-adding the camera brings back all the old footage. Would that event still be visible? no sense in buying this if someone vould erase the camera then break in...

    This is one of many reasons why I do not rely on, nor do I trust Wi-Fi cameras to protect my property. Wired systems are the way to go. You should hard wire each camera back to an NVR and then ideally back up that NVR to a cloud service like drop box.

      ​@@ElayneOkaya 1) Wireless cameras rely on third party servers. If the company has a data breach or uses poor encryption then there's a chance the camera could be hacked or your private videos could be viewed by anyone on the internet.
      2) Some wireless cameras store their recordings in the cloud. If your internet connection was to fail or be disabled by an intruder your camera would be unable to record the events.
      3) Companies like to add hidden fees. Take Ring for example. If you don't pay their $3 per month you camera won't record anything.
      4) Image quality on wireless cameras is never great. You won't any wireless cameras that can record in clear 4k. If you want the best chance of capturing licence plates or faces you'll want a camera that records in 4k.
      5) The last thing you want is a wireless camera to miss an event because if failed to detect motion. Having cameras that record 24/7 is key to making sure that you never miss an important event.
      As I said the main reason is always reliability. There are too many things that can effect a wireless camera.
      If a camera is connected to a recorder using a cable and you use a UPS (backup power supply) you'll be able to monitor your home even in a power outage. Unless the hardware fails there's nothing that could stop the camera from recording (if you go with a hardwire system).

      @@Jim26Dwhat do you mean unfinished attic? Drop ceiling “acoustic tiles”? Pop them up one by one from below with a ladder and run wire as needed. If it is drywall, then just walk carefully on the 2x4 wood studs. If you’re really concerned about falling through then use 2 pieces of plywood - one braced on two studs and the other to place in front of you. That is tedious and I prefer to just walk carefully. Invest in a good headlamp and watch your head - many times you will snag you head on a roofing nail. It’s not fun trust me

      @@victork3397 it's just a mess up there. They had fresh insulation placed before I got the house. So there is about 2 feet of it. It was too difficult to do, I ended up just getting wireless cameras

    My Eufy indoor cameras stop detecting at night with the IR feature activated. With my kitchen totally dark,it does not detect motion. I can stand directly in front of the camera and would not get an alert. My living room gets some light from the streetlight outside but that camera also does not detect motion when I enter the room. Do you have any ideas what my be wrong ?

    I just experienced this issue not too long ago I started looking at my camera footage to find out different things going on in the neighborhood I had a neighbor have an issue and I realize that my footage started disappearing for some reason from the previous days I'm not sure why it never was doing that before but I noticed that the whole month & prior month to yesterday magically disappeared but yet in my storage it that I have all this built up storage I'm trying to figure out how can I get to that built up storage or how did my stuff from the previous days magically disappear I mean it makes no sense like how is it that Eufy without a product that is expensive in a sense and you can't utilize it like you need to it's pointless and I came to your channel trying to figure out if I could actually use another camera with their storage because obviously it is easy for somebody to access that reset button on the outside like you said which makes no sense and we can't seem to get to our storage or our cloud on the inside from our computers or phones. They should have some kind of software update where we're able or capable to get to our storage on the app that has been prior to the erase of The button being reset... if someone can actually push that reset button from the outside easily. The other thing is they have the newer model that has more TB 3C I BELIEVE IT IS for them and I was hoping that one actually had the capability of being able to access cloud storage I did order that one prior to coming to your channel not knowing that this was the issue I was thinking it was because it was just not enough storage on the first local storage that only had 16 or 14 GB because I have their doorbell and their flood light and I know that the flood light has its own little storage and I figured that between the two it just wasn't enough storage so I figure let me just get the expandable storage with the terabyte for both but now I see there's an issue going on.... A real big waste of money with them SMH🤷🏽🤷🏽🤷🏽

    You mention that Reolink offers cloud storage as an alternative. You do realise that Eufy has cloud storage as well, right? Would love to see how the cloud storage would handle the sync button issue.

    I know this is old but the footage was indeed intact on the storage device. That was why it showed back up. There was a way to access but since of course was patch with the latest firmware update.

    Odd because I just purchased eufy 2k wire doorbell, and one wifi camera that I use to monitor my basement in case the sump pump fails tested this on that camera and the footage was still there I really like the product really clear. Maybe this was fixed between your recording and my recent purchase but cannot replicate your findings on my end.

    I have that issue I took one of my cameras to charge it and once it was charged it was not showing anything and it was deleted from the home base so I tried to sync the camera again but now is not syncing to the home base and I don't get it to work anymore and it turns on it beeps when trying to sync it but never get linked to the home base again

    Yeah, that’s kinda bad! I have RTSP on my Eufy cams so if that was to happen to me all the footage would still be on my NAS, but still, most people wouldn’t be storing their footage this way.

      Same here. The cameras are on my DMZ network and blocked internet access. My NAS via the app records the videos via RTSP protocol.

    From a developer pov that cam has an uid and if that uid is removed, clips with that uid aren’t shown anymore in the list… (basically it’s just a filter), these clips need to get another account uid and that list needs to be build up by that and also the cam id and show the camera as removed too, this absolutely need to get fixed.

    This has always been an issue with Eufy Camera's.
    Likewise with camera's that use local storage - a thief just needs to take the memory card out or take them camera itself and all your footage is gone.

      Well eufy stores the footage on homebase in house so just taking the camera and resetting it should not delete the footage. It is a terrible "design". Expected if you have a solo cam with SD card in it, etc.

    Brother thank you for this info its has a lot of value for us the consumer, most of this companies need to understand that everyone now in days has a darn pocket cpu aka a cellphone that its easy for the (robber) to search for a flaw on any camera, so if this companies are going to develop any security product goshhh think 2 steps ahead.

    tried to link another battery camera to homebase and it knocked off all my cameras and will not let me share with my wife. One camera keeps flashing red and blue and will not link or stop the flashes. can you help?

    Linus Tech Tips just did a video on their podcast explaining how you see are actually uploading unencrypted photos from your camera to a publicly facing server that can be accessed by anyone around the world without certification. So you see are not doing what they say they do in regards to local storage and no cloud storage

    Thanks for this video! I am looking into what system to buy, and Eufy is really nice, but this is a dealbreaker. Fix your stuff, Eufy! Why would you have an "intended feature" that allows a thief to come and grab your camera, wipe all evidence of their activity, and then take the camera so you can't ever see what happened? (And then apparently they could even re-sell the camera, since it's totally free to be installed by someone else now.)
    I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be looking elsewhere for security cameras for my entire home.

    Was planning to purchase a few Eufy cameras today (Black Friday). STOPPED. Will not reconsider, until they fix this problem. While I would also love the Eufy Duo Doorbell, it has an additional flaw - cannot record to it's own Base-station or record to it cloud service!! Everything is on the SD card in the doorbell. Until they fix these major FLAWS (not marketing BS features), will not even consider them. Thanks Steve.

    Sounds like the footage is still on the home base as you said. Eufy should be able to fix it easily.
