Venus X - I only use Pillar Blend for my soy melts and votives. GW464 I only use for containers. I never mix the 2 together. 464 is too soft and will not pop out of my metal molds.

+Spellcraft Bath Thanks. The containers are Chinese take away plastic containers. They fit 3 accross, 2 down and 2 up. You can total of 14 in each one for display.
If found the best and safest wax that won't burn if accidently tipped over is Ecosoya CB135 known now as Q220 now + I add 2tsp beeswax to 200g soy wax as it takes out the ions out of the air that cause allergies and respiratory infections & even when not melting the scent throw is amazing - each one lasts up to 6 days :)
I found CB135 (massage wax) a little soft for soy melts. I prefer a harder melt so it can be removed from a oil burner. But if that combo works for you. Well done :)
I made learning to make candles and wax tarts my goal for this month and I'm so glad you uploaded this easy to follow video. Seeing all the tarts you made gave me inspiration to give it my all. My only question is how do you package them?
+Khalilah Owens I have all my melts in trays (like the video), but sometimes I have a special on and I pack 3 into a small cello bag and put a ribbon at the top. Check this photo for details. sentinelcandles.com.au/candles.php?pid=16
Hi Dean, how are you? I hope things are going as you hoped. I finally made the wax melts tonight and they turned out perfectly! I changed the fragrance to wax ratio slightly but I was really pleased with the small batch I made to test it out. I would love to get my hands on your wax melt table though. All those melts look Devine!
Everything looks so good and pretty could you recommend a great fragrance company. I feel what's the point of looking good if it doesn't smell good. Thx
Another great tutorial, will definatly try these, any idea how long the scent last ? A question I'm sure will be asked by customers!!, thanks for sharing
Depends how its used. I suggest to people use it until its melted to liquid then turn the burner off. This allows for the smell to be release but also to make it last. If they do this about 4-8 hours.
Your melts are Beautiful !! Was wondering how you got the multi colors tarts, would love to see a tutorial on that , when poring do you have to let each layer fully dry . Your melts are amazing Thanks for sharing A'nna😀
+A'nnamaria Davis If im making 2 color melts, I add the fragrance then half the wax into 2 pouring pots. Add colors to each. Pour the first one and let it set to a semi hard state, then pour the second color hot, this binds them together.
Hi Dean, I have made several wax melts using your tutorial and they have come out fantastic! I was wondering if you could re-melt them and re-pour into clamshells, and would they lose their fragrance?
Great video, please can you confirm the temperature of the wax when you're adding the fragrance oil, and also the temperature for the dye to be added? Thank you.x
+Suzanne Rael Hi, I assume by "natural" you mean Essential Oils? If so, I can't help with that as I don't use EO in my products. Here is why. EO are not designed for candles. Some have low flash points and can be very dangerous around a flame. The flash point of each essential oil is different. Many of the common essential oils, such as tea tree, lavender, and citrus oils, are classed as a Class 3 Flammable Liquid, as they have a flash point of 50-60 °C.
Hello those are beautiful colors How do you store your melts? I read something about keeping them wrapped in plastic wrap and mail in a special polypropylene bag. Just wondering
I kept my melts in a zip lock back for the first 24 hours are unmolding them then they were placed on my table in the retail shop. I stopped making them after my 3rd hernia operation and the company that was making the wax stopped making the wax.
It doesn't matter about the temp, just make sure the first layer is not liquid. Im doing some more melts in a few weeks, I will try and film it to get a better idea.
@@pinkladyht All good. As you know, I stopped making soap/candles a few months back. I'm now looking at creating a cooking channel for small, quick, and easy meals.

hey Dean I am just getting into making wax melts and I had a questions. the wax I've ordered says my maximum scent load is 12% but most of my scents only allow up 1 to 5 percent. what should I do?
Go with what the supplier suggests per fragrance. The wax may hold that much but the fragrance can't be used more then the supplier suggests. It's really important to only do the max from the fragrances point of view. For melts I use 10% MAX For jars I use 8% MAX.
Love your video. one question obviously you put the scent in before the colour. does it have to be a particular heat when putting in the colour or do you put it in straight away after heating it to 66?
+nic lou I put the in straight away. When I pour, it's small amounts and the trays are cold which makes the wax go cold pretty quick protecting the fragrance.
Thank you for video Dean. I really want to try these. Is there a particular soy wax I should use? I hear some people use container wax vs pillar. I would really appreciate your help with this because I really don't know where to start.
+NYtalk60 I use Soy Pillar Blend because it's a hard wax. Container wax (or Golden wax 464) is designed to stick to the edge of the glass, hence hard to get out of a mold - with saying that I know of a few people that say they use 464 for melts. Give it a try :)
No debe haber humo blanco. La única cosa que debe ser liberado de un quemador de aceite después de poner el derretimiento en, es la fragancia en el aire.

GW464 is more of a candle jar wax, it will stick to whatever container its melted in. The reason I was using pillar blend is because its a solid wax, meaning it will pop out of the container easy, ready for a new wax piece.

William, I get all my candle/soap supplies from www.naturalcandlesupply.com.au. I call the scents what the supplier labels them, unless I make up my own mix fragrance.
I work in out in grams. 10% max of fragrance oil. So if you have 1kg wax, 100 grams of fragrance (depending on the fragrance supplier). Some fragrances max level is less then that.
Thankyou so much, have you got a email address i could use, as i have been in business a few months now and it is only you i follow! you are my role model 😍
Hi Dean. Thank you for your video. I have tried doing the same like what you are doing. Kinda glad to inform it was successful. I even used the same mini muffin tray exactly like yours. But when it comes to taking out it won't pop. So I heard you need to put in freezer. So I did. But some of the pieces break into half. Do you know why? Does it ever happened to you? Any tips? Thank you
When I made this video I used Pillar Blend soy wax. They dont make this wax anymore and Q230 Soy wax is its replacement. I use this a few weeks ago for some soy melts (video soon) and its softer wax so it needs to set and cool for longer. I left my melts over night and even then it was hard to get some out. So I do suggest silicone molds for Q230 wax. Hope that helps.
Dean Wilson alright. Thank you. But because some broke into half...I had to melt it again. Then I just used a small plastic container. Individually. It seems to help. But I may buy a silicone mold too. Thanks for the idea.
Also if you have a craft heat gun you can heat the back of the tray up so it falls out. Dont leave it too long because it will complete melt the soy melt, just a few seconds to lossen it.
I know this is an old thread, but I just ran across it. ...... What are your thoughts on putting vybar in your wax melts? I've read conflicting info on whether it helps with scent throw or not. Thx
They don't need to be in a package to hold the scent? I'm looking into making my own melts for myself & I've always heard they need to be stored in a special plastic (polyurethane maybe?) or the scent will dissipate over time.
I only had my melts displayed in the open inside takeaway containers on a large table. They never lost their scent. I was using Soy Pillar Blend. It might be different from other waxes.
Votives are small pillar candles. They normally get burnt into a votive jar, they burn for about 8 hours. GW464 is Golden Wax 464. It's a container wax used mostly for candle jars as it sticks to the glass very well.
Dean Wilson Thankyou for you're fast response. I love the melts so decided to try making them myself as I spend a fortune on them. once again thank you.
That would depend on how much it costs you to make. I told my melts for $1 each but I have seen others sell them for $2.50 each, so it all depends on inventory prices and your sale cost.
+Deborah Parker It's been a while since I made melts. Normally I just melted the wax until it was liquid on my crockpot - setting #2. Nothing about 140 F degree.
As long as the fragrance is made for candles, it will be fine. I never used essential oils for my soy melts. As a maker its not what I want, its what my customers want. When I ran my retail shop, I had over 110 different fragrance oils in soy melts, lots of choice for everyone.
hi dean, I seem to have great cold throw, but It seems there is no hot throw, do you have a recommended temperature guide, there is so many varients and i seem to produce the same result - PS, you said you dont own your shop no more, do you still do online orders? would like to buy some.
+Stuart Wiggins 137 F degree is when I poured these in the video. I am sorry, I currently do sell them at the moment. Not until I get a new shop or warehouse. Then my website will be taking orders.
+Kara Manuel When I finish there is normally a little wax left in my pouring pot. I put this back into the crock pot and melt it down, put a tissue inside and let the tissue absorb the wax. The wipe with Viva paper towel. I then put water into the pouring pot and let it boil. Put another viva towel inside and wipe up the remaining wax. Now because wax can clog up your sink, I never pour that down the drain. I pour that water back into my crock pot. Saves my sink and makes the room smell nice. :)
Wow!! That's awesome thanks for sharing!!! I'm not sure where to find a soy wax in Canada I don't see it with the pillar. Also do you have a link for the little candle holder / warmer it's so basic , I have been looking for one just like that!!!
All the links I have are in Australia. Which is currently not supporting international shipping. But here they are. www.candlesupply.com.au/home-fragrancing/burners/mosaic.html
I absolutely love this video so helpful...I'm a newbie and wanted to do clamshells but can wait fir my business to expand b4 I invest to much going overboard spending
I have done up to 3 colors per melt but it takes a long time to make. Also when picking colors they will change when melted. E.g. Blue + Red = Purple. Pink + Yellow = Bright Orange etc. I just pour a tiny bit in each mold and try and get them as even as possible. Thats it.
Beautiful melts! I also use that blend for mine. How do you get your melting pots clean? That's my one issue is getting all the wax out of them when I'm done
+Omneya Andrea Acosta Dhmaid I place water back into the pot and place it back on the crock pot, then add 1 viva paper towel and the wax melts from the heat and sticks to the paper towel. swirl it around a little and its clean. If not, do again.
Depends how you burn them. Melt them until liquid then let them harden. I find this the best way to get the max smell. Once hard start melting again. If you melt it consistency then maybe 4-8 hours. My way maybe 20 hours.
Hi Dean, just to let you know I tried using the muffin and the one color came out just fine, my multi color was unsuccessful !! The muffin tin works Great !!!! 😀Thanks so much for tip, I had some 4x6 cello bags they were to small to fit 6 , what size bag would you recommend Thanks Again A'nna
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) That makes a lot of sense I can get 3 in my bag, we are having a craft event coming soon to raise money for our church what do you think a fair price would be, there so easy to make I got my mini. Unfinished tin from Walmart it had 24 cavity, I saw one larger than that, Again Thanks so very much for helping !😀😀😀
+A'nnamaria Davis I sell my melts for $1 each. Other shops near me sell theirs for $1.95 each. Basic rule is add up the cost of the product and times in by 4 for retail, times by 2.5 for wholesale.
Its not so much critical, its just how I have always made them. Your also have to take into account the flashpoint of your fragrance. Some EO have a low flashpoint (burst into flames) - So something to be check into.
Hi, can I ask how you ensure you are CLP compliant as they have no packaging? I have been making my own and thinking of selling so enquiring for this reason, thanks :)
I'm in Australia and we don't have CLP compliant rule here. I checked with my local council when I was running my retail shop and they said everything was fine. It's like Lush selling bath bombs not wrapped. Because your not eating or putting on your skin it doesn't effect the body.
great video, i am new to making candles, i have been doing research on it and i would love to make my own business hear in the UK would you say it is profitable and worth the time? thanks
When starting out, you will spend all your profits and put them back into the business. I found it took me 6 months to start making good money to live on. If you can pick up constant business (which is hard) then you will be fine. Treat it as a hobby to start with and grow slowly and build up your name. No point putting $10,000 into it and finding out it doesn't work for you. It's long hours and expect little in return for a while. I know that seems doom and gloom but thats small business.
150F Degree but you can add it cooler. Depending on your wax type. I dont think wax exists anymore. I have 5kg of Q230 that im testing this week. New video coming soon.
Is there a certain amount of time you have to wait for it to "cure"? I used to make soy candles and I read for the fragrance to have a better throw you have to wait a while for the wax to really incorporate into the fragrance.
+Kim Murphy I have read this too, but I have also talked to candle makers that use them within 12 hours of making them and they have said it works the same. They still melt and release their fragrance and that is all that matters.
Hello, is there anyway you can make a new video on making wax melts ? How to make different color wax melts I want to learn how to color the wax please and thank you
It's the same process. If you half the wax qty, pour half into the tray, then wait for that to set, then do it again with a different color. I currently don't have any wax and im not selling wax melts anymore, so I cant do another video on that right now. I will put it on my todo list. :D

Also if you have a craft heat gun you can heat the back of the tray up so it falls out. Dont leave it too long because it will complete melt the soy melt, just a few seconds to lossen it.
hello im trying to make some candles but i bought golden brand 415 wax. will that work in doing candles? thank you
I have not used 415 wax. I use Golden Wax 464 for candle jars and Soy Pillar Blend for my soy melts.
Hey Dean!Any idea where I could get the scents "Fruit Tingle" and "watermelon lemonade" Thanks ☺️
Watermelon Lemonade
www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/products/watermelon-lemonade-fragrance-oil.aspx
I dont know any supplier with Fruit Tingle. sorry
hi dean, what do you use to melt the wax when making the Melts? I'm looking at making some myself and want to know what I need to get started.
I use the same crock pot to melt my soaps. You can find it here in my equipment video
ua-cam.com/video/RDsLfpPKfyI/v-deo.html
I know this is an old thread, but I just ran across it. ...... What are your thoughts on putting vybar in your wax melts? I've read conflicting info on whether it helps with scent throw or not. Thx
Tammi, I have never used this. I found the small 20grams melts give off 4-6 hours of fragrance.
Which fragrance have u used. Now in India we get soy wax gel wax n paraffin wax what you say pillow can u please xplain
I think the fragrance was Must Sticks (as in the lolly) . I use soy pillar blend, its not paraffin.
Dean Wilson ok thank you!
Hi Dean love your tutorial. What is voties and GW464. Also what hours are you open please
Oh, almost forgot. I closed my retail shop back in Nov 2015. I just work from home now.
do you sell to public ?
Dean Wilson what wax would u recommend for melts please. There is so many. !
How much profit per 240g is one able to make
That would depend on how much it costs you to make. I told my melts for $1 each but I have seen others sell them for $2.50 each, so it all depends on inventory prices and your sale cost.
Hello, i've done watch your video, is it possible to use silicone mold than metal muffin mold? Thank you
Yes, infact with the new soy wax Q230 I do suggest using silicon over metal muffin trays.
Dean Wilson in my country just have 3 type of soy wax eco AS 1804, AS 2004 and AS 2204, is these type can use to make soy melt? Thanks
Im not sure. You need hard wax. Not jar wax for melts.
Dean Wilson so the type you use for the video is the hard one? Is all the type that i mention is not there the hard one?
The one I used for this video was Soy Pillar Blend but they dont make this wax anymore.
I dont know of the ones you mentioned.
Love this video. Thank you!
what temperature for adding fragrance and colour and what temperature for pouring out into trays
+Deborah Parker It's been a while since I made melts. Normally I just melted the wax until it was liquid on my crockpot - setting #2. Nothing about 140 F degree.
Hi what kind of bag do you use for the 24-48 hrs for them to go hard?
Its just a zip lock bag.
Is there certain fragrances that you have to use or can you use anything?
As long as the fragrance is made for candles, it will be fine.

Hello sir which essential oil fragrance is best for melted wax please reply
I never used essential oils for my soy melts. As a maker its not what I want, its what my customers want. When I ran my retail shop, I had over 110 different fragrance oils in soy melts, lots of choice for everyone.
@@DeanWilson thank you so much God bless you and your family ❤️
Do you have a link please for the mini muffin tray u used in the video
Here is a link to amazon, not sure which ones they were but they were about 3cm wide.

hi dean, I seem to have great cold throw, but It seems there is no hot throw, do you have a recommended temperature guide, there is so many varients and i seem to produce the same result - PS, you said you dont own your shop no more, do you still do online orders? would like to buy some.
+Stuart Wiggins 137 F degree is when I poured these in the video. I am sorry, I currently do sell them at the moment. Not until I get a new shop or warehouse. Then my website will be taking orders.
Great tutorial :)
Just wondering do you have any cleaning up tips?
Im finding the pillar blend a pain in the butt to clean up out the jugs lol
+Kara Manuel When I finish there is normally a little wax left in my pouring pot. I put this back into the crock pot and melt it down, put a tissue inside and let the tissue absorb the wax. The wipe with Viva paper towel. I then put water into the pouring pot and let it boil. Put another viva towel inside and wipe up the remaining wax. Now because wax can clog up your sink, I never pour that down the drain. I pour that water back into my crock pot. Saves my sink and makes the room smell nice. :)
Thanks Dean!

I absolutely love this video so helpful...I'm a newbie and wanted to do clamshells but can wait fir my business to expand b4 I invest to much going overboard spending
How would you propose making multicoloured melts?
I have done up to 3 colors per melt but it takes a long time to make. Also when picking colors they will change when melted. E.g. Blue + Red = Purple. Pink + Yellow = Bright Orange etc. I just pour a tiny bit in each mold and try and get them as even as possible. Thats it.
thanks this helped so much
Can I use natural soy? Thank You 😊
I have only ever used Soy Pillar Blend wax as it's a hard wax.
Hi Dean! Is is possible to use beeswax instead?
I guess you could but I have never tried. I have only ever made votives and pillar candles with beeswax.
Thank you so much for sharing that tip. Now I don't dread cleaning it out.
How long does these scents normally last when you start burning them?
Depends how you burn them. Melt them until liquid then let them harden. I find this the best way to get the max smell. Once hard start melting again. If you melt it consistency then maybe 4-8 hours. My way maybe 20 hours.
Hi Dean, just to let you know I tried using the muffin and the one color came out just fine, my multi color was unsuccessful !! The muffin tin works Great !!!! 😀Thanks so much for tip, I had some 4x6 cello bags they were to small to fit 6 , what size bag would you recommend Thanks Again A'nna
+A'nnamaria Davis I only fit 3 melts in my cello bags ( 100mm x 150mm). Like this.
sentinelcandles.com.au/products/large-41.jpg
I just made mine based off your video. I haven't burned them yet, but why is the temperature so critical? The 151, and the 137?
thank you for the video. very easy to make.
Its not so much critical, its just how I have always made them. Your also have to take into account the flashpoint of your fragrance. Some EO have a low flashpoint (burst into flames) - So something to be check into.
Anyone know if you need both the wax listed in the des
Hi, can I ask how you ensure you are CLP compliant as they have no packaging? I have been making my own and thinking of selling so enquiring for this reason, thanks :)
I'm in Australia and we don't have CLP compliant rule here. I checked with my local council when I was running my retail shop and they said everything was fine. It's like Lush selling bath bombs not wrapped. Because your not eating or putting on your skin it doesn't effect the body.
Dean Wilson I did not realise Australia didnt have CLP law, thank you for the reply😊
great video, i am new to making candles, i have been doing research on it and i would love to make my own business hear in the UK would you say it is profitable and worth the time?
I have never done tarts before. Can you use Micas to color them?
+HandWorks Artisan Soaps I am not sure. I purchased my mica just for soaps, not candles. Check with your supplier.
+Dean Wilson (SentinelCandles) of course...what was I thinking! Lol
So can u use normal soy wax? Like u use with candles ?
If you use jar wax its much harder to remove from the customers melter. Because pillar wax is hard, it pops out in 1 block.
Hi Dean what temp did you add the fragrance x
150F Degree but you can add it cooler. Depending on your wax type. I dont think wax exists anymore. I have 5kg of Q230 that im testing this week. New video coming soon.
Dean Wilson ok great thanks I have been having problems lol
Can you use micra colour in the wax melts
Im not sure, I have only ever used liquid candle dye to be safe.
I bought some pillar wax it I s so hard what do you use to cut it a knife wont
My wax comes in flakes.
Do you have to convert mls to grams on the fragrance ?
I used grams for my fragrances.
Dean Wilson Thank you for responding! Maybe its the soy wax Ive used in the past that didnt work for me. Maybe Ill give candle making a try again :)
Are you done with videos really miss the melt and pour abs loved them I've watched every single video
Dean, when im recycling the wax out of candle jars to make wax melts, how do I prevent the centers of the melts im making from sinking in?
Jar wax and melt wax should be different (in my opinion) but it sounds like your pouring it too hot. Wax will shrink a little too.
Hi Dean,
Where do you buy your fragrances from?
I buy them from www.eroma.com.au
No frosting😍😍 how did you do that without frosting?
Its pillar blend which they don't make anymore. Over time they got frosting but I think thats normal when exposed to the air.
