What has been the most challenging part of social distancing for you? I sure miss eating out, but keeping the kids home from school and having to entertain them (and breaking up the bickering) takes the cake for me! You?
Love your calm educational delivery
SHERALYN FEENEY-SMITH Thank you for the kjnd words and for watching!
Dr. Majd, thank you for this video! You're so easy to listen to and use "common sense " Everything you mentioned is point on! I appreciate you tons! You're right.......creativity is good and what a great opportunity to use this time! I will pray for you as you find things to do with your beautiful twin girls! God bless you 😇❤❤❤
PS I'm i safe? I have a cleaning business so i go into other people's home everyday! I work all weekend too! No one has canceled except for a beauty shop i clean. I do all the cleaning myself. Been doing this for probably 26 years! 😜
Debbie Eckhardt Thank you for your very kind words and for watching, i am so grateful. As far as safety goes, if you are unable to stop working temporarily (which i completely understand), at least make certain that no one in the home has any cold/flu symptoms and reschedule if needed. Wear gloves when cleaning and wash your hands when you take the gloves off. Wishing you safety and health always.
@@MajdMD Thank you for the great advice Dr. Majd! You're so kind! Much love to you and your family!! So nice to get a reply! You're thee best!!
Debbie Eckhardt Thank YOU! 🌹
We miss being at church, but our church offers online services...it's not the same, but we sure are grateful for the technology.
Stacy L Wow that’s fabulous. Even that small connection over video makes a big difference. My kids had one video conference with their class and teacher and it gave them such great comfort and returned that connection, it was the best part of their week! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and stay safe.
such an incredibly informative video! amazing!
Ariana has no tears left to cry Thank you so much for watching, I’m glad you found the info useful in any way!
Question... If a person’s CBCs are out of range or at the bottom of the range (e.g. platelets 132, RBC auto 3.8, WBC auto 4.1) does that qualify as being high risk for a 70-year-old man? Asking for a friend. ;-)
aletabird Depends on why the numbers are abnormal. Does he have a bone marrow insufficiency? If there is an underlying issue, like multiple myeloma or a chronic leukemia, then yes I’d take extra precautions. Based on his age alone he should be taking extra precautions. But perhaps this a good question to ask his doctor.
We keep hearing about people with underlying medical conditions being at higher risk of death. How about a 69-year-old male with CBC values that are outside normal range or are barely normal? Do low platelets, RBC, and WBC mean he’s more susceptible to serious complications from this disease?
aletabird I’d say it’s not the numbers per say, but the cause of the low numbers. Has that been investigated? Is there a diagnosis? Bone marrow biopsy or heme/onc eval?
He has had several more blood tests to follow up but all those came back within normal ranges, so I think they’ve dropped it. He hasn’t eaten red meat in 30 years so the doc thinks that’s why the RBCs are low. I’m more concerned about his WBCs which went from 6.5 last year to 4.1 this year. He rarely gets sick, not even a cold, but it makes me nervous now. (And sorry about the duplicate question. It didn’t look like it went through the first time.)
aletabird Are his platelets also low?
Platelets are 132... low end as I understand it.
aletabird I’m not his doctor and i don’t have his chart to view, but sometimes when patients have a low wbc, platelet, and hemoglobin level (or 2 of the 3), i personally send my patients to heme/onc for an eval. But i can’t say for him specifically, given he is not my patient and I’m not able to view his medical records.
NASA has awesome interactive websites for kids. They have articles on everything from satellites and robots to spaceship designs. They can even program there own Mars rover. Its something fun and educational to keep them occupied.
Robert Kress Oh, what an awesome idea. Thank you so much, i will have to check that out, it sounds like so much fun.
Thank you for this, Dr. Majd. And yes, it’s a bit out of date for us in California, but important information nonetheless. My husband (69] and I (64) are sheltering in place and starting last Friday I started telecommuting for as long as my “non-essential” workplace is open.
Meanwhile, what are YOU doing during this crisis? Are you holding office hours? If so, what measures are you taking to protect yourself?
aletabird yes, same day i recorded CA announced a lock down. I tried my best to release it as quickly as i could! But thank you for the kind words. We are in house only as well, only to get food (and we make it quick and intentional) and go to work. Healthcare workers still report to work, of course. The large group i work for has a protocol in place, every person that enters our building gets screened before walking in. We also have an outside tent for those who call and have mild symptoms but would like testing. Thank you for asking! Stay safe.
Can it mutate like the Flu?
What a great questions -- it's so new that we don't really know yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if it does, although hoping that it really doesn't.
