    I’m new to this intermittent fasting and I’ve been doing 14/10 fasting for a week. My question is, would this be considered intermittent fasting or not really? I did lose 5 kgs as a result of it… I know a bit much for a week; but I’ve told my doctor about it and he saw no harm in it. It also lowered my blood glucose levels. So far I’m ok with the 14/10 fast, however I want to move into the 16/8 fast but I’m not sure how well I will do it? I just don’t know how many fab diets I’ve tried over the years just to gain whatever I lost all back again. I like the intermittent fasting because I read how our body rejuvenates cells and DNA… this caught my attention more than anything.

You may also ask your doctor for Metformin ER, I find it bothers my body much less. Also do talk with your doctor you many need much less Metformin while on ketogenic diet, because you are just having so few carbs. I do not take a dose of Metformin if my blood sugar is under 100 mg/dL and stays under 120 after a meal. If my sugar are over say 130 / 140 I take Metformin. You may also look into Berberine, I find very helpful if my sugar is over 140 mg/ dL. So may I ask what is your HBA1c? Mine has be riding at 5.7% for the last 8 months.

    I was diagnosed with diabetes in 2018. My Dr put me on Metformin and it was awful. I told her I can't take it. That I'm gong on the Keto diet and trying that. She said if I could lower my A1C to under 7.2 in three months she would be okay with that. Well, I got it to 6.3. I've done quite well, got off all my other meds for blood pressure and etc, was under 200 when I started at 249 lbs, and then this year I started slipping. I am back up to 211 lbs. I want to get back on Keto. I've always been afraid to fast because I experienced an episode of low blood sugar once and it was awful. I think I'm going call my Dr and ask her if she's okay with me easing into intermittent fasting. Starting with larger eating windows and gradually decreasing them. Thanks for this info. • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  4 роки тому +1

      @ Cedric if you keep you diet under control I would think of it as diabetes remission. However if you start to eat sugar and high carbs daily, you will again increase your insulin. So think diabetes remission rather than cure. Think of it as a life style rather than a diet. Good and healthy eat low sugar and lower carb say 100 grams total is a good lifestyle for everyone. 100years ago we ate and drank much less sugar.

      I'd say maintaining the weight can help control the diabetes long term -- and intermittent fasting is one great method to decrease insulin resistance and help weight loss.

      depends on your pancreas's beta cells, if u do a blood test, ask for c-peptide test, if its within normal range or higher, ur insulin resistance is causing high blood sugar level so fasting help reducing it. if its less than normal, then u r stuck with medication/insulin/food+exercise+IF.

    • @MajdMD
      @MajdMD  4 роки тому +7

      Yes -- but this is what we typically want. Because there is no glucose running around in our bloodstream, the glycogen stores in the liver are instead broken up to be used as fuel.Then once this is depleted, the fat is broken down in our bodies to be used for fuel.

    T2D fasting can trigger hypoglycemia during glycosis because insulin levels will not go down quickly because of Insulin Resistance (IR) or because of high cortisol level which is triggered by stress. If the switchover takes longer than 90 minutes something is wrong you have a complication and you should see a doctor to help you figure it out. Stress management can prevent cortisol from interfering in fasting switchover to ketosis.. During the switch over from glycosis to ketosis- a slow switchover can cause temporary hypothermia - the switchover from glycosis to ketosis should take from 30 to 120 minutes after 12-18 hours from the last time you have eaten. Temporarily keeping warm during the switchover might be needed for a T2D fast. A T2D fasting may not lose much weight initially *e.g. first 3 months* because of the difficulty to switch to ketosis and IR. thing that are likely to improve before weight loss ...lower blood pressure... lower glucose levels... higher ketone levels. less T2D and HB medication is needed

If I had to wait for a dr to “help” me when I wanted to try improving my health by trying something not recommended by my Dr’s I would have severe complications by now. I have been questioning my Dr’s and often not following their advice since I was diagnosed at age 11.

      Tara Dufour I’m a T1 and have been IF for awhile. My Endocrinologist is all for it. I’ve lost weight and brought my A1C down 8.5 pts. I also have Diabetic Gastroparesis. Doing IF also improved that. Actually before IF my Diabetic Gastroparesis got worse which made my diabetes worse, and in turn got my A1C clear up to 14. He had no clue how I wasn’t in a coma or dead. He told me to go ahead and go back on IF (I had did it in the past). I got a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and was put on a pump first. It actually helps! Because I see where my glucose is at all times. After awhile I’ve needed less and less insulin and he had to change my basal setting to less also. I went from an A1C of 14 down to 6.5! It does work, keeping close with a good Endo dr is key also. Especially one who is your cheerleader.
