    Hi, I'd love to see more reviews on cat food. I'd especially be interested in Wellness, Simply Nourish, and Merrick.

    When I was young Gravey Train was a popular dog food and I think it is still around. I would be interested in a video on Gravey Train.

    I like the intro! Clever. I haven't heard you discuss feeding a variety of food, for the reasons you mention. Availabilty, life changes, etc. Don't know if it applies to dogs, but cats can get picky, if fed the same thing all the time. My cats get beef or chicken. Sardines or pink salmon once a week. I also rotate four different flavors from two different wet food brands. Ramish, the black lab next door, has never turned down any of the cat food, my two cats won't eat! LOL

    With all these in mind, do you plan to come out with a top 10? I imagine it would have to be something that's available at a Petsmart, Petco, Grocery store, Tractor Supply, etc. since availability is high on the list (that's high on my list too).

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  11 місяців тому +1

      I’m not sure about a top 10 per se, I’ve got my new point system going so it should be clear which is better. I am also planning on reviewing already published “top foods” from surveys like insider reviews

    What’s your opinion on freeze dried raw foods primal, Stella and chewy etc etc It’s such a hype right now that would be a great review topic

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  9 місяців тому +1

      Exactly right. All hype. Anything raw, especially freeze dried is not necessary, expensive, and potentially harmful.

    Great video! What are your thoughts on pet food companies who do perform feeding trials, but they're not exactly AAFCO feeding trials in that the their feeding trials are more extensive and stringent? This will legally prevent them from stating "Animal feeding tests using AAFCO procedures substantiate etc.." because they're not AAFCO feeding trials per se, but they still do feeding trials. I believe that's the case with Royal Canin.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  Рік тому +2

      1. In Regards to Royal Canin I do believe they do feeding trials to AAFCO standards on most of their diets. When it gets to the prescription ones, they cannot always comply because these are RX and the nutrient levels fall out of the reference range for normal adult dogs ect, by nature of treating a condition.
      2. In regards to your broader question about companies who perform feeding trials but maybe not exactly AAFCO. I think that probably is fine. BUT, the reason for the standards is to make the information readily available to the public in a easily understandable way. Its hard for me as vet to research EVERY food my patients get and its just as hard for the consumers. So doing the feeding trial and getting that AAFCO feeding trial designation makes me more likely to accept it and recommend a food just for simplicities sake. It a "weed out" term for me. In a perfect world, yes I would read all the data a company has and make a decision but thats not realistic. If I was a full time nutritionist, that would be another story. As I said in this most recent video, its not a deal breaker for me, Its just a general indicator of how much effort a company is willing to make. And I have 100% asked companies why they don't and they use that animal testing BS so when I hear that....

    I have a Bish-poo 9 weeks old and i wanted to make homemade food and also incorporate the Pro Plan puppy small breed which he will only feed out of my hand. I just have concerns about him not eating I have only had him a few days (since 2-24-24). Will you do a future video on your thoughts on making homemade food.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  2 місяці тому

      2 days is way to early to worry about not eating much, they have to adjust to the new environment. Also puppies should not be picky, this can indicate a health issue or if you encourage the behavior a behavioral issue. I have a video on homemade diets but in all reality this the path you choose you need to have an appointment with a boarded veterinary nutritionist because puppies have specific needs. There is information on this video on how to find one. How to Create Balanced Homemade dog food recipes with BalanceIT.com
      ua-cam.com/video/ke6SzNYoKII/v-deo.html. Also you can’t mix homemade and commercial foods because the nutrients are calculated assuming a sole diet feeding plan and will result in unbalance.

      IMO, I'd forego the Farmer's. We had a nightmare, switching to Farmer's. She had an allergic reaction(terminal itching), and it was some process getting it straightened out. 3 months later(4 vet visits, change to hydrolyzed diet, and a cyto-point injection), we're still not completely out of the woods yet, but she is way better now. AND, we've know 3 other parties whose dogs had a similar reaction to Farmer's. I do wish we could've kept her on it. She really liked it, but.....

    Hi Doc are there any decent training treats?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  4 місяці тому

      I don’t use treats often but for training I’d stay away from anything jerky. Get something low calorie (like 1-3 cals per treat) since you will be doing a lot. I have also used plain Cheerios and plain popcorn for training

    Hello there. New to your channel. I really need some help. I have 3 spayed female cats. They are 13, 4 and 3. The 3 year old doesn’t like wet that much and my senior just had oral surgery and had kidney issues at 3 years old and my 4 year olds coat is not as shiny and nice as it used to be. I am currently feeding them wellness dry, wet and treats. Please help me pick a food that would be really good for all 3 that won’t cost me like $200+ a month. Thank you for all your help with pet food. Love your videos. ❤

      @@AnimalDocRea Thank you so much for getting back to me. The videos were not super helpful. I’m really nervous about feeding my cats Purina pro plan. I just don’t think all the ingredients they use are necessary or good for cats. You only had 3 videos and only a couple of products.

      The videos are more to show you how to work through foods than to make a recommendation for a food, especially since your pets seem to have some medical stuff going. Probably best to consult your personal vet or a boarded veterinary internist/nutritionist for a more tailored plan for them.
