    This is a very well done video. I like how you give the information in a non-judgmental way so we can then decide what is best for our pets. Generally my pets do really well on corn but I have had some that don’t, it’s very individual. Thank you for taking the time and effort in making these videos!!

    Still catching up on all your videos. Although we are still trying to troubleshoot our 12 year old's allergy, we're so grateful that in doing so, we found your and "The Pet Food Puzzle Guy's" channels. As I posted on his channel, we no longer look at the bags of Hill's/Royal Canin with disdain when we're in the pet food stores. Instead, we have 2 bags and a case of Hill's z/d.😁

      It’s heavy on the protein based on AAFCO standards slightly. Also you need to see the calcium and phosphorus to make a more complete evaluation.

      @@AnimalDocRea i realize that was missing this was based of chewy and stella freeze dried raw kibble. They have synthetic nutrients anyways. I think for the 8 week corgi prob gunna go for purina pro plan unless my vet recommends something different. Ziwi peak seems to be good as far raw freeze dried food i know u prob dont recommend that they are really expensive anyways. Ive been going on dogfoodadvisor.com and i like how they help analyze ingredients and tells you for example “controversial ingredients” and what not

    What got me thinking was when I compared two dog foods, one with corn and one without, and saw both recommended 3.25 cups for a 60lb dog.

    • @AnimalDocRea

      It’s a touchy subject that has honestly been fueled by marketing by certain pet food brands. But she used in a pet food, corn does provide and essential nutrient and if omitted would simply be replaced by another product to provide the same nutrient. People are being purposefully manipulated and I’m just trying to show them the light

    • @allwilkennels9809

      And you said they usually get a allergic reaction do to high protein?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  Рік тому +3

      It’s not high protein, it’s the protein source in general. There are very rare cases of allergies to grains and many to proteins, this is The general consensus among board dermatologists and the current theory used for allergy food trials in veterinary medicine.

      @AnimalDocRea I appreciate you educating me on this. One more question what about meat & bone content? And can corn based dog foods start off first in the ingredients and still beneficial for your dog's.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  Рік тому +5

      This is a question with a long answer that I need to do a video on. Ingredient lists are the most manipulated part of the package. WSAVA and ACVN recommend that this be looked at with a grain of salt for this reason. Ingredients are listed by weight with water and have nothing to do with percentages actually in the food. So they use ingredients high in water to make them appear higher up ( chicken has lots of water for example but may only be like 3% of the diet ) Companies can also split ingredients to make them lower on the list so they can break corn down to corn meal, corn flower. People want an easy way to look at a good and companies capitalize on the fact that they don’t know better. So realistically I never look at an ingredient list.

    Thank you! I'm comfortable with feeding corn. However, my big concern is that other countries will not eat corn in our country. This is due to the herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides. Even being infused into the seeds. Is this a cancer or other health concern for dogs? Do dogs eating other grain sources have less cancer?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  5 місяців тому +2

      I’m not aware of any plausible data suggesting that pesticides used on corn is resulting in increased incidences of cancer or that dogs consuming alternative grain sources have less instances of cancer. I do read the academic journals monthly and I also subscribe to the veterinary information network message board so if there is new information I will be sure to post it here.

    My puppy has a chicken allergy. I’m looking for a food that is around 40-45 dollars without chicken. Lots of foods have chicken fat even if it’s a different protein
    Any suggestions?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  7 місяців тому +2

      Food allergies would require a prescription diet such as z/d or ultamino. No OTC diet would be sufficient to treat a properly diagnosed food allergy.

I will just say one thing, somewhat facetiously. I can put corn (ethenol) in my car gas tank. Why would I put it in my cats! LOL
