I use a flat chuck on my tailstock and it is always centered as I move that segmented ring toward my spindle. Starting out with the base. The large flat chuck also is a press.

Claude, great job! In looking at your faceplate, was it attached with drywall screws? If so, I understand they are a bit brittle to use this way, so I avoid them.

I first turn a waste block, attach the base OS the turning then I use my jumbo jaws mounted on my tail stock to attach subsequent rings. In this way all the rings are centred with the axis of the lathe.

I am having problems with gluing the rings themselves to each other and keeping them centered, would this work for thst? And the rings are the same diameter. Thanks.

That is a nice way that i'm going to try, how do you center almost equal rings, in diameter, that hold many segments, 64 or so?
